Senator Jeff Sessions (R., Ala.) suggested that House Republicans are on the verge of breaking their campaign promise to fight President Obama’s administrative amnesty, judging by the legislative text currently being circulated.

Sessions said that the proposed language “fails to meet [the] test” established by Republican National Committee chairman Reince Priebus, who promised earlier this year that the GOP would do everything possible to thwart Obama’s executive orders.

“The executive amnesty language is substantially weaker than the language the House adopted this summer, and does not reject the central tenets of the President’s plan: work permits, Social Security and Medicare to 5 million illegal immigrants — reducing wages, jobs and benefits for Americans,” Sessions said in the statement expressing his dissatisfaction with the results of a House Republican conference meeting today.

In the meeting, “the lawmakers began coalescing around a two-part plan that would allow a symbolic vote to show their frustration with President Obama’s executive action on immigration, before funding the government ahead of a Dec. 11 deadline,” according to the New York Times.

Black Lives Matter, So It’s Time to Outlaw Abortion

black-lives-matter-620x330I’ve been hearing quite a bit about this alleged war being carried out against black people. I’ve been told from numerous sources that the killing of Michael Brown is but another piece of evidence that, in the words of someone on my Facebook page, blacks are ‘hunted’ in this country.

Black people are under attack, we’re informed. Cops, especially, are roaming the streets executing innocent black men in cold blood, for no reason, and without ever being held accountable for it.

And then out come the statistics: A black person is killed by a cop every day. A black man is 20 times more likely to be shot by a police officer. Law enforcement is responsible for more black deaths than sharks and lightening combined. And so on.

Unfortunately, these numbers don’t take into account how many of those black people were killed by a cop while trying to kill a cop. Apparently, in the world of Shocking Statistics Used to Prove a Liberal Argument, such details are somehow irrelevant. Could it be that a companion study might prove that black males are also 20 times more likely to violently attack police officers? Has anyone checked up on that angle?

I don’t know this for sure, but I am going to assume that if you take criminals, drug dealers, gang bangers, thugs, and the like out of the equation, and compare law abiding citizens of all races, you’ll find that the ‘killed by a cop’ figures are virtually identical. Michael Brown was killed because he was a violent criminal, not because he had a skin pigmentation displeasing to the officer. In fact, you’ll discover that anyone of any color who obeys the law and doesn’t fight cops will almost certainly avoid being killed by them. Yes, there are exceptions. There are tragic accidents, mistakes, and misunderstandings — like the poor young boy who was shot after brandishing a realistic toy gun on the playground a few days ago — but these are the exception to the rule. For the most part, in the vast majority of cases, if you follow the law and avoid provoking violent encounters with the police, you will not be ‘hunted’ by anyone.

The obfuscation here is truly remarkable. No matter how often it happens, it will always boggle my mind that anyone could site these figures about blacks getting shot by cops without even mentioning that a large number of them were engaged in shoot-outs prompted by their decision to commit a crime. It’s one thing to try and mitigate these qualifiers, but to act like they have no bearing on the matter at all? Incredible. Simply incredible. And then to take the fate of violent criminals and extrapolate that it’s just as likely to befall any person of color regardless of their law abiding nature? Again, incredible. We have reached a level of intellectual dishonesty never before encountered by mankind. It’s like a self-imposed insanity of sorts, and it makes reasonable conversation impossible.

That said, they do have a point, actually.

The people who claim blacks are being targeted and erased are, in fact, raising an important issue.

The ones who hold signs saying ‘Black Lives Matter’ are making a profoundly necessary statement.

It’s just that the shooting of Michael Brown had nothing to do with it.

And the cops have nothing to do with it.

And nothing that Al Sharpton talks about has anything to do with it.

And none of the business owners whose buildings were destroyed had anything to do with it — although I’d amend that statement if it turns out that someone set a Planned Parenthood ablaze.

Indeed, if you want to protest the one institution which kills more black people than any other, head to your local abortion clinic.

US Army Plans to Send Abrams Tanks and Bradleys to Eastern Europe "To Counter Russia"

The new Army commander in Europe plans to bolster the U.S. armored presence in Poland and the Baltic states and keep rotations of U.S. troops there through next year and possibly beyond to counter Russia.

Lt. Gen. Frederick “Ben” Hodges, who replaced Lt. Gen. Donald M. Campbell earlier this month as commander of U.S. Army Europe, said the Army was looking to add about 100 Abrams tanks and Bradley Fighting Vehicles to the forces in Eastern Europe.

“We are looking at courses of action for how we could pre-position equipment that we would definitely want to put inside a facility where it would be better maintained, that rotational units could then come and draw on it and use it to train, or for contingency purposes,” Hodges said in a briefing from Vilnius, Lithuania. . .

Since taking command, Hodges has made clear his concerns about Russia, which annexed Crimea last March and has supported the separatists in eastern Ukraine. U.S. Army Europe, which had 280,000 troops at the height of the Cold War, now has 31,000.

The rotations of U.S. troops on training missions in Eastern Europe would provide “deterrence against Russian aggression,” Hodges said. . .

He referred to the NATO treaty article calling on all member states to respond to an attack on any member of the alliance. Poland, Lithuania, Estonia and Latvia are all members of the 28-member NATO alliance.

White House Shoots Down Petition to Declare Muslim Brotherhood a Terrorist Organization

By Sam Taylor.

The White House has officially rejected a ‘We the People’ petition calling for the U.S. Government to declare the Muslim Brotherhood a terrorist organization after more than a year and 200,000 signatures…

However, the White House failed to respond until Monday, when it issued an unequivocal ‘no’:

We have not seen credible evidence that the Muslim Brotherhood has renounced its decades-long commitment to non-violence.

Congress Must Reassert its Authority and Preserve our Constitution

120114_hn_immigration_640It’s unconstitutional.

It’s reckless.

It’s lawless.

All these things have been said about President Obama’s executive action on immigration—a breathtaking order that not only changes laws passed by Congress, but will likely send millions of mostly low-skill workers flooding into a workplace that is already struggling to raise wages and find room for all those needing jobs.

Immigration is a remarkably complex subject, and not just as a matter of policy. Our nation’s immigration laws can be difficult to understand. Our Constitution, however, isn’t complicated. Our system of government is simple.
Congress writes the law, the president executes the law, and the judiciary interprets the law. The president does not make new law.

That concept is called the “separation of powers,” and it’s of core importance to our democracy. As a bulwark against tyranny, our Founders determined that no single branch of government could perform all the functions of government—making, enforcing, and interpreting the law. In other words, our Founders took the classic powers of a king and divided them between the legislative, executive, and judicial branches.

Why Did Disney Block God?

It turns out you can give thanks for a lot of different folks on the Disney Channel website – but you can’t thank God.

I received a Facebook message on Sunday from Julie Anderson, of Angier, North Carolina, a town located about 30 miles from Raleigh. Julie was writing to tell me about her daughter, Lilly.

Lilly celebrated her 10th birthday on Sunday. After church and a delicious lunch at the Golden Corral, the Andersons headed home – and Lilly made a beeline for the computer.

Now, Lilly loves the Disney Channel – and as she was browsing the channel’s website she noticed a question. The Disney Channel wanted to know what she was thankful for. So Lilly typed in her answer.

“God, my family, my church and my friends,” the 10-year-old wrote. Lilly pressed the return key and waited for her answer to appear on the website. But her response did not appear. Instead, a message written in red popped up on the screen.

“Please be nice!” the message read.

Sebelius: Americans Don’t Like Obamacare Because their “Financial Literacy is Low”

Well, she may claim to not know who Jonathan Gruber is, but she sure did get a copy of his talking points.

Discussing Obamacare with a USA Today reporter, former Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius blamed many of the law’s problems on the fact that Americans lack her sophisticated understanding of insurance:

Still, Sebelius didn’t dispute the point that many Americans don’t fully understand how health insurance and the Affordable Care Act work, including the trade-offs involved in expanding coverage.

“A lot of Americans have no idea what insurance is about,” she said. “I think the financial literacy of a lot of people, particularly people who did not have insurance coverage or whose employers chose their coverage and kind of present it to them, is very low — and that has been a sort of stunning revelation. It’s not because people hid it from folks. It’s because this is a complicated product.”

Sebelius served as insurance commissioner for the state of Kansas before epically botching the roll-out of a federal entitlement program in historic and ostentatious fashion. So, she knows a thing or two, America.

Hillary Clinton: I Want $300,000 And A Bowl Of Hummus

Over the Thanksgiving week, the Washington Post obtained rare email exchanges between Hillary’s representatives and UCLA regarding her planned speech appearance. When the fee was being discussed, UCLA asked if there was a special rate after being given the $300k figure.

Her representatives said that is the special rate, but don’t you dare forget Madam Secretary’s hummus (via WaPo):
At UCLA, efforts to book Clinton and then prepare for her visit were all-consuming, beginning almost immediately after she left her job as secretary of state on Feb. 1, 2013, until she delivered her Luskin Lecture for Thought Leadership speech on March 5, 2014.

The documents show that Clinton’s representatives at the Harry Walker Agency exerted considerable control over her appearance and managed even the smallest details — from requesting lemon wedges and water on stage to a computer, scanner, and a spread of hummus and crudité in the green room backstage.

Top university officials discussed at length the style and color of the executive armchairs Clinton and moderator Lynn Vavreck would sit in as they carried on a question-and-answer session, as well as the kind of pillows to be situated on each chair. Clinton’s representatives requested that the chairs be outfitted with two long, rectangular pillows — and that two cushions be kept backstage in case the chair was too deep and she needed additional back support.

Proposed Bill Would Mandate High School Seniors Pass Citizenship Test to Graduate

Here’s an interesting piece of proposed legislation in the Peace Garden State: a bipartisan bill recently unveiled to the North Dakota legislature would require high school students to take and pass the same citizenship exam given to immigrants seeking naturalization in order to graduate.

North Dakota’s first lady Betsy Dalrymple and state School Superintendent Kirsten Baesler unveiled a proposed bipartisan legislation on Monday that would require every high school students to get a passing grade on the civics exam to graduate.

Initiative spokesman Sam Stone says the goal is to enact similar laws in all states by 2017, when the Constitution turns 230 years old.

He says that eight states, including the Dakotas, are supporting the idea so far.

Backers say the goal is for North Dakota high school students to learn more about how American government works before they graduate.

Milwaukee Sheriff: DOJ Profiling Guidelines Don't Mean Anything to Me

Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke (D) said that new anti-racial profiling guidelines announced by Attorney General Eric Holder “aren’t going to mean anything to me” on Tuesday’s “Your World with Neil Cavuto” on the Fox News Channel.

“Those guidelines aren’t going to mean anything to me. He’s not in a position to tell local law enforcement anything about training or standards. That’s nothing more than a scurrilous charge. I’m not going to let him get away with it. I’m going to continue to push back on behalf of the men and women all across this country who go out and risk their lives in service to the community” he stated.
