President Barack Obama authorized targeted airstrikes and emergency assistance missions in northern Iraq, saying Thursday the U.S. must act to protect American personnel and prevent a humanitarian catastrophe in the face of advances by violent Islamist militants.

The U.S. military said it completed a delivery of meals and water to thousands of members of a religious minority who fled the town of Sinjar and are trapped in nearby mountains by the group calling itself the Islamic State.

Mr. Obama said he ordered the use of U.S. airstrikes if necessary either to stop militants from closing in on the northern city of Erbil or to allow local forces to aid the Yazidis, the religious minority. No U.S. strikes had been conducted by late Thursday, officials said.

His remarks at the White House capped a day of soaring concern about militant advances in Iraq, where extremist fighters seized control of areas long considered safe and took over the Mosul Dam, the country’s largest, according to local reports.

But Mr. Obama also acknowledged domestic jitters about renewed military involvement in Iraq, where America fought an eight-year war.

Obama: Tonight I Authorized “Military” and “Humanitarian” Operations in Iraq

By Daniel Doherty.

Speaking from the State Dining Room on Thurday evening, President Obama announced that he had authorized two separate operations in Iraq: a “humanitarian mission” to bring food and supplies to ethnic minorities trapped and fearing for their lives on an isolated mountain in northern Iraq, and “limited military airstrikes” to prevent ISIS from slaughtering more innocents.

“They’re without food, without water, people are starving and children are dying of thirst,” he said.

Many too, he continued, have been indiscriminately massacred or even enslaved by ISIS forces in recent weeks. It was therefore, he argued, the responsibility of the US to intervene militarily.

Obama Official Deleted Obamacare Emails Sought By Congress

The administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) deleted some of her emails and may not be able to cooperate with a congressional investigation into the flawed Obamacare rollout, CMS has warned Congress.

Marilyn Tavenner, who was appointed by President Obama to take over CMS within the Department of Health and human Services in 2013 — prior to the Obamacare rollout — deleted some of her emails and did not save hard copies as the Federal Records Act requires her to do, MSNBC reported Thursday.

Though Tavenner’s computer did not crash like ex-IRS official Lois Lerner’s computer allegedly did, Tavenner may be unable to cooperate with House Oversight and Government Reform Committee subpoenas.

Homeland Security Spends $450,000 on ‘State of the Art’ Gym Memberships

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is spending more than $450,000 on gym memberships for TSA agents and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) employees who work desk jobs at a procurement office in Washington, D.C.

Last month, DHS bought gym memberships for ICE workers in its Office of Acquisition to boost their morale and “improve working conditions.”

“As part of the agency-wide Health and Wellness program, sponsored by Department of Homeland Security/Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), has a requirement to provide ICE employees in Tech World Office at 801 I Street, NW Washington, DC, 20536 with access/membership to a fully comprehensive state-of-the-art health club facility,” the June solicitation said.

On July 7 the agency announced it had purchased 236 gym memberships to Vida Fitness, which describes itself as “more than just a gym,” offering an “Aura Spa, Bang Salon, Fuel Bar, Gear Shop, Endless Pools, luxurious locker rooms, and the rooftop Penthouse Pool and Lounge.”

The government will spend an estimated $400,000 for two-year memberships at the upscale Vida gym located in the Renaissance Hotel on 9th street.

Transparency Troubles: Audit Finds $619B Gap in Federal Spending Site

The Obama administration failed to properly account for how it spent nearly $619 billion, according to a watchdog audit of the main federal website meant to track where taxpayer money is going.

The report from the Government Accountability Office picked apart the website USASpending.gov, and the agencies feeding information to it.

The database of government spending and contracts was created out of a 2006 transparency law, but the GAO found it continues to have serious problems. The Department of Health and Human Services was the worst offender, during the 2012 period GAO examined.

“Although agencies generally reported information for contracts to USASpending.gov, they did not properly report information on assistance awards, totaling nearly $619 billion,” the GAO reported.

USA Today first reported on the GAO audit.

Miller Turns in Another Strong Debate Performance

20140806_121427-300x186Joe Miller turned in another strong debate performance in his hometown of Fairbanks today. The debate, sponsored by the Fairbanks Chamber of Commerce, was the first and only debate among the Republican primary opponents in the community. Many of the topics focused on business issues; however, the candidates were also afforded the opportunity to ask one question of each other.

Miller’s first question went to Dan Sullivan and concerned the subject of impeachment. Given President Obama’s lawless acts regarding ObamaCare, Fast and Furious, and amnesty among others, Miller asked, “Would you support the impeachment of the President?” Sullivan declined to answer, responding if the House voted on the matter, as a senator he would be required to “adjudicate that impeachment.” Miller followed, “Do you not agree those are the types of things for which the House should pursue articles of impeachment?” Sullivan responded that his focus would be on reducing regulations and improving the economy.

Miller’s question to Mead Treadwell focused on international taxes Treadwell supported as a consequence of his backing of the United Nations Law of the Sea Treaty (“LOST.”) He also worked with the World Wildlife Fund to enact what is essentially a federal environmental tax on oil production: the World Wildlife Fund was one of the plaintiffs that sued to shut down offshore drilling in Alaska earlier this year. LOST gives the United Nations the authority to directly tax and regulate the American people for the first time ever. Miller asked, “How does your backing of these taxes square with your ATR [“Americans for Tax Reform”] Pledge to vote for no new taxes?” Treadwell responded that he had been educated by Miller and others about LOST, and that he does not now support those provisions of the treaty. But Miller made it clear, with LOST already ratified by dozens of nations around the world, that the Treaty could only be supported in its entirety or not. Treadwell did not respond to this point.

A question came from the audience concerning whether all the candidates could work with Lisa Murkowski as part of the Alaska delegation. Treadwell said that he and Lisa Murkowski have been “lifelong friends,” and though they may have differences sometimes, they will be able to “work together for the benefit of Alaska.” Sullivan said, “I will be able to work very well with Senator Murkowski.” Miller responded, “Senator Murkowski voted with Obama 72 percent of the time, it is one of the weaknesses of Mr. Treadwell and Mr. Sullivan’s campaigns that they were supporters of hers in 2010.” It makes it harder to argue Mark Begich should be replaced, given he votes 80 percent of the time with Murkowski. Miller added, “On the 28 percent of the areas we agree, you bet, I will be hand-in-hand with her to make sure the interests of this state are advanced.”

SHOCK VIDEO: Cop Explains Why Police No Longer Follow the Constitution

0 (93)By Matt Agorist.

A brutally candid video was captured and uploaded to youtube Monday of an Helmetta, NJ cop.

Steve Wronko had gone to the Helmetta Police Department with a list of objections about recent violations at the Helmetta Regional Animal Shelter. According to the Community outreach facebook page created to expose the atrocities of the shelter, Reform Helmetta Regional Animal Shelter, there is a long stemming controversy from the Helmetta Mayor, Nancy Martin.

Martin also happens to be the tax collector for the City of Perth. In 2011, Martin made her son, Brandon Metz, the head of the Animal Shelter. She also appointed him to Animal Cruelty Investigator, Borough Laborer, Water Meter Reader, and Certified Recycling Co-ordinator, according to the facebook page.

When Wronko went to the police department to voice his complaints about the violations of his Constitutional rights by this corrupt, nepotistic system, he was met with even more corruption.

sorry-obama-but-there-are-no-excuses-for-war-crimes-621x330Lefty Newspaper Slams Obama On Immigration: You Don’t ‘Have A License To Tear Up The Constitution’

By Justen Charters.

On Tuesday, the editorial board for the Washington Post penned a column calling out Obama for wanting to act without Congress on immigration.

From the Washington Post:

STYMIED BY congressional paralysis, President Obama is reportedly considering unilateral action to address — though surely not fix — the nation’s immigration policy mess and the more recent surge of minors streaming across the southwestern border.

Obstinate, hopelessly partisan and incapable of problem-solving, Congress is a mess. But that doesn’t grant the president license to tear up the Constitution.

Regardless of what President Obama thinks, he does not have the power to write laws or act without Congressional approval. Since Obamacare officially became the law, it has been changed by executive action twenty four times, according to the Galen Institute.

Miller Can’t Be Bought

unnamed (20)My family and I recently had the honor and pleasure of hosting Joe Miller and some of his crew when they came to Homer for the debate with Mead Treadwell and Dan Sullivan.

I have long supported Joe and agree with just about all of his policies and positions. After getting to know him over the three days he was in Homer and seeing his performance in the debate, I’ve got to say that in my opinion he has done his homework and paid his dues.

He is a man of honor, integrity, and high principles. He is also a warrior. He took an oath to defend this country and its constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic. He upheld that oath in battle in the first Gulf War and put his life on the line in the process. He is ready to do the same in Washington. He believes the federal government has far overstepped its bounds and has put the country in peril.

Joe will do his best to set things straight and put the Beast back in its box. My sense of the man is that he is running for the Senate out of love for this country, a strong sense of duty and deep feelings for the rightness and wrongness of things. He won’t quit, he won’t back down and he can’t be bought.

On the Footsteps of a Pandemic: Nigeria and Liberia Declare National Emergencies, CDC Issues Highest Emergency Alert

The Nigerian government on Wednesday described the Ebola outbreak in the country as a national emergency. Minister of Health Onyebuchi Chukwu said this at an emergency meeting convened by the House of Representatives Committee on Health over the Ebola outbreak in Abuja, the nation’s capital city. He said out of six Nigerians diagnosed with Ebola virus, one had died on Tuesday, adding that the other five patients were receiving treatment. The minister said everyone in the world now was at risk, adding that the experience of Nigeria had opened the eyes of the world to the reality of Ebola. He said there was no empirical evidence to show that bitter kola will prevent or cure the highly infectious disease. The outbreak, by far the largest in the nearly 40-year history of the disease, has infected 1,711 people and killed 932 this year in four western African countries — Guinea, Liberia, Nigeria and Sierra Leone — according to the World Health Organization. –Xinhua

CDC issues highest alert level: The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Wednesday ramped up its response to the expanding Ebola outbreak, a move that frees up hundreds of employees and signals the agency sees the health emergency as a potentially long and serious one. The CDC’s “level 1 activation” is reserved for the most serious public health emergencies, and the agency said the move was appropriate considering the outbreak’s “potential to affect many lives.” The CDC took a similar move in 2005 in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, and again in 2009 during the bird-flu threat…

Several Britons quarantined for Ebola amidst claims the virus may be airborne

Several British nationals have been voluntarily quarantined with suspected Ebola, according to the Daily Telegraph. The admission came from public health officials and follows revelations an individual in Cardiff had expressed fears they had contracted the disease. The exact number of people quarantined and their exact location have not been confirmed, but they are believed to be spread across the UK. The problem faced by public health authorities is that tests for Ebola are ineffective until the patients show symptoms. This means that they have to wait up to 21 days, which is the maximum incubation period. The World Health Organization has also claimed that the virus is spreading faster than they can control. This may be because of a misunderstanding about how the virus is transmitted; in 2012 a study suggested that Ebola may be transmitted through the air. Whilst the study was not conclusive the BBC reported that Canadian scientists had found that Ebola had been transmitted between animals that had never come into direct contact. This suggests that the current theory that it is only transmitted by exchange of bodily fluids may be wrong. However it is known that the individual in Cardiff has been confined to their home for the past week, after they returned from West Africa. The person visited West Africa where more than 1,600 people have been infected with the virus in recent months, resulting in 887 deaths. Public Health Wales said the person is “currently staying away from work and limiting contact with other people voluntarily.” A health official admitted there were “several cases” across the UK, but stressed the quarantines were purely a precaution as none of them had developed any symptoms of Ebola.

Hard Truth for Gun-Control Advocates: Permit Holders Extremely Law-Abiding

Guns can be frightening, particularly for those individuals who have no idea how to use a firearm. In a recent Townhall video, one man reasoned that concealed carry in Washington D.C. was dangerous because “more people carrying guns means more opportunity for those guns to be used.”

Individuals employing the “more guns more crime” logic are using using shoddy research as the basis for their claim.

“If you look at information from the Justice Department, they have something called the National Crime Victimization survey. What you find is that guns are used in crime about 250,000 times a year.” John R. Lott Jr., economist, Yale professor, and president of Crime Prevention Research Center, told Townhall.

“If you look at similar surveys of people who use guns defensively, it’s about two million times a year. So basically people are using guns defensively to stop crimes about four to five times more frequently each year than guns are used to commit a crime. Most people don’t realize that.”

The truth is that individuals with gun-permits are extremely law-abiding. Less than one percent of licensed firearm holders have had their permits revoked due to misdemeanors.

Lawsuit: Soldier Forced out of Army for Serving Chick-fil-A, Reading Hannity Book

A member of the U.S. Army Band said he was forced out of the U.S. Army for having anti-Obama bumper stickers on his personal car, serving Chick-fil-A sandwiches at a party and reading books written by conservative authors like Sean Hannity, a federal lawsuit alleges.

Master Sergeant Nathan Sommers, a 25-year veteran of the military and a decorated soloist in the U.S. Army Band Chorus, claims he was forcibly retired from the Army due to his religious and conservative political beliefs. I first told you about Sommers last year in a series of exclusive Fox News reports.

John Wells, an attorney representing Sommers, called him a “true hero” who lost his career while trying to stand up for his religious beliefs.” He alleges that he drew the ire of his superiors because of his belief in traditional marriage.

“Those who protect our rights must be allowed to exercise them,” said John Wells, an attorney representing Sommers. “Master Sergeant Sommers did nothing to interfere with good order and discipline. He was the perfect soldier.”

Sommers, who was based at Fort Myer in Washington, D.C., is the recipient of an Army commendation medal and was a soloist at the funeral of former First Lady Betty Ford.
