Obama Spokesman Ignores Critics, Says Admin Is ‘Absolutely’ The Most Transparent Ever

Photo Credit: REUTERSNew White House spokesman Josh Earnest went on CNN’s “Reliable Sources” Sunday to discuss his new role as press secretary, and declared that Barack Obama is “absolutely” the most transparent president in United States history.

The statement came in a sit-down, taped interview with host Brian Stelter in a line of questions over the “adversarial” relationship the administration has with the press and a recent letter from the Society of Professional Journalists that demanded the White House become more transparent in its work.

“Some would say it may be more adversarial because you are all withholding more than ever,” Stelter said. “Have you seen this letter this week from the Society of Professional Journalists? 40 press groups all saying the president should be more transparent.”

Earnest quickly shot back that journalists wouldn’t be doing their jobs if they didn’t send letters demanding more transparency.

“Look, I think the president’s record stands up to any of the records of his predecessors,” Earnest replied. “They’re all journalists. The day that they sit back and say, ‘we don’t need to write a letter, the White House is telling us everything they’re supposed to,’ is the the day they’re no longer doing their jobs.”

Goodlatte: Obama Has Power to Stop Immigration Crisis

Photo Credit: Nate Beeler, The Columbus DispatchBy Rep. Bob Goodlatte Goodlatte.

There is a tsunami hitting our nation’s southern border. Unaccompanied children, teenagers and families from Central America – largely from Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador – are arriving in unprecedented numbers at ports of entry in the Rio Grande Valley in Texas. They are making a dangerous journey through Mexico and then walking miles across a hostile border environment, assisted by smugglers, and coming to the United States in violation of the law.

As chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, which oversees and writes our nation’s immigration laws, I led a bipartisan delegation to Texas last week to examine this crisis and seek solutions on how best to stop it. During our visit, we toured federal facilities and met with those dealing with this problem firsthand at the border, including law enforcement officers and federal officials from the Departments of Homeland Security, Justice, and Health and Human Services. Here are some of the key facts we learned on our trip.

Border Patrol and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents were quite clear that the vast majority of Central American minors who travel alone cite joining their parents who are already in the U.S. illegally as their primary reason for coming, not fleeing violence. Additionally, these parents often had a role in smuggling the minors into the U.S. While I was on a ride-along with the Border Patrol along the Rio Grande River, I witnessed the apprehension of a mother and child from El Salvador and a 15-year-old boy from Honduras. The boy said he came to reunite with his mother, who has been in the U.S. since he was 6. Both said they were coming here in violation of law, but like many others, do not believe the administration will send them back home.

Photo Credit: APObama’s DREAM Act by Executive Action Results in an Immigration Nightmare

By Cameron Smith.

There is little disagreement that our current system of immigration is outdated and cumbersome. For example, we have arbitrary caps and categories, lengthy backlogs on visa and citizenship applications, and a process that remains difficult to navigate without legal assistance.

These structural and administrative failures create an incentive for illegal immigration. It is telling that so many immigrants find that paying exorbitant amounts of money to dangerous human smugglers is preferable to America’s legal system of immigration.

Unfortunately, the number of immigrants, especially children, opting for the perilous illegal journey is becoming an increasing problem, thanks to President Obama’s refusal to enforce immigration laws with respect to “young people who were brought to the United States as young children.”

After legislators declined to enact the Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors Act (DREAM Act) in the 112th Congress, President Obama initiated the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program on June 15, 2012. He did not bother to issue an Executive Order or White House memorandum regarding the decision. He simply directed Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano to draft guidance on applying “prosecutorial discretion” with respect to a certain class of younger immigrants without legal status.

Governors Group Skirts 'Radioactive' Common Core

Photo Credit: TownHall Reviled by staunch conservatives, the common education standards designed to improve schools and student competitiveness are being modified by some Republican governors, who are pushing back against what they call the federal government’s intrusion into the classroom.

The Common Core standards were not on the formal agenda during a three-day meeting of the National Governors Association that ended Sunday, relegated to hallway discussions and closed-door meetings among governors and their staffs. The standards and even the words, “Common Core,” have “become, in a sense, radioactive,” said Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad, a Republican whose state voluntarily adopted the standards in 2010.

“We want Iowa Common Core standards that meet the needs of our kids,” Branstad said, echoing an intensifying sentiment from tea party leaders who describe the education plan as an attempt by the federal government to take over local education.

There was little controversy when the bipartisan governors association in 2009 helped develop the common education standards aimed at improving schools and students’ competitiveness across the nation. The standards were quickly adopted by 44 states.

Jailed Marine’s Attorney says Arrest ‘Tainted’ by Human Rights Violations

Photo Credit: Fox News The attorney for the Marine being held in a Mexican prison on gun charges told Fox News’ Greta Van Susteren Thursday that the case is “tainted by several human rights violations.”

A Mexican federal judge sent Sgt. Andrew Tahmooressi back to prison Wednesday after he made his first official courtroom appearance since being locked up more than three months ago for accidentally crossing the border with guns in his pickup truck.

Fernando Benitez, Tahmooressi’s lawyer, told Fox News Thursday he believes the entire case against his client has been tainted because of the way it was handled by Mexican authorities, and should be dismissed.

“Right now we have a lot of evidence that the arrest is tainted by several serious human rights violations,” Benitez said on “On the Record with Greta Van Susteren.” “The further we go into evidence, into that topic, the more clear it will become I believe.”

Benitez said the violations occurred during the time Tahmooressi was held at the customs point of entry, but said he was not at liberty to discuss them in detail.

More Than Two Thirds of Americans Think Elections Are Rigged for Incumbents

Photo Credit: TownHall More than two thirds of Americans surveyed in a recent Rasmussen poll say that they believe election rules are “rigged” to ensure that incumbents are victorious.

Some 68 percent of respondents in the new Rasmussen survey say the high retention rate in Congress is because lawmakers are able to exploit favorable election rules, not because they do a good job representing their constituents.

And 48 percent of likely voters believe that American elections are not fair to voters — the highest percentage since 2004. By contrast, 39 percent of voters say elections are fair. Of the likely voters surveyed, 14 percent say they’re not sure.

Why Mark Begich Still Hasn't Gotten a Vote On Any of His Amendments

Photo Credit: AP / Becky BohrerIt’s a sore point for the Alaska Democrat, who already faces a difficult re-election campaign in a conservative-leaning state. Republicans have already criticized it as a sign that he is ineffective, an argument he rejects.

Begich has his own party to blame. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., has blocked amendment votes on most bills this year to prevent vulnerable members (including Begich) from having to weigh in on Republican proposals that could hurt their re-election chances, such as amendments on Obamacare or gun control…

In an interview, Begich said he is frustrated with the lack of amendment votes and has told Reid that he would prefer an open process even if it meant allowing Senate Republicans to force votes on politically motivated proposals.

But at the same time, Begich rebuffed his GOP critics, dismissing the significance of amendments as a means to judge his productivity and effectiveness.

What A Planned Parenthood Clinic Is Being Sued For Is A Sickening Show Of Its Priorities

Photo Credit: IJ Review Cary Smith is alleging that Planned Parenthood performed an abortion on her then 13-year-old daughter, R.Z., who was brought there by Timothy, who was also the unborn baby’s father, and that Planned Parenthood failed to report clear signs of possible sexual abuse and returned her home with her rapist.

From LifeNews:

On May 3, 2012, Timothy transported his thirteen-year-old step-daughter to Planned Parenthood in Denver, Colorado, for an abortion appointment that Timothy had forced R.Z. to schedule.

Planned Parenthood staff met R.Z. and her step-father and gave them the necessary paperwork. R.Z. filled out her date of birth and signed a few forms, but Timothy completed all the rest. R.Z. never read these documents.

Feds to Bring in Riot Squad Against Illegal Immigration Protesters

As illegal immigrants continue to spill across the U.S.-Mexico border, federal authorities are attempting to relocate the migrants from South Texas to housing facilities in states across the nation. One such facility is located in Murrieta, California, where a large group of protesters recently blocked a bus full of migrants from arriving. The protesters remain there, adamant that illegal immigrants don’t get dumped in their town. But soon the concerned citizens may be forced to step down–Breitbart Texas has learned that federal agents plan to arrive in Murrieta on Monday with riot gear to ensure that another busload makes it to the housing facility.

Jeremy Oliver, a resident of Temecula, California–a town that neighbors Murrieta–told Breitbart Texas that local police officers warned the protesters that “it’s going to get ugly.”

Oliver said, “The feds are pissed that they haven’t been able to use this facility. Officers out there warned people that federal agents will be in Murrieta on Monday–they are going to get the next bus through no matter what. Riot gear and shields will be used to push the crowd back.”

John Henry, a Murrieta resident since 1991, was told the same thing by local officers.

Perry: Obama either ‘inept’ or doesn’t care about border

By Kyle Balluck.

Texas Governor Rick Perry (R) on Sunday said the Obama administration is either “inept” or doesn’t care about the influx of unaccompanied minors at the border with Mexico.

Speaking on ABC’s “This Week,” Perry pointed to a letter he sent in May, 2012, that raised concerns about the flow unaccompanied minors. Perry said there was no response from the administration.

“They either are inept or don’t care,” Perry said. “I have to believe that when you do not respond in any way, that you are either inept or you have some ulterior motive.”

“This is a failure of diplomacy, this is a failure of leadership,” he added.

Perry said he does not believe that President Obama “cares whether or not the border of the United States is secure,” adding that “we are paying a huge price.”

Photo Credit: Michael Robinson Chavez / Los AngelesDeportation data won’t dispel rumors drawing migrant minors to U.S.

By Brian Bennett.

President Obama and his aides have repeatedly sought to dispel the rumors driving thousands of children and teens from Central America to cross the U.S. border each month with the expectation they will be given a permiso and allowed to stay.

But under the Obama administration, those reports have proved increasingly true.

The number of immigrants under 18 who were deported or turned away at ports of entry fell from 8,143 in 2008, the last year of the George W. Bush administration, to 1,669 last year, according to Immigration and Customs Enforcement data released under a Freedom of Information Act request.

Similarly, about 600 minors were ordered deported each year from nonborder states a decade ago. Ninety-five were deported last year, records show, even as a flood of unaccompanied minors from Central America — five times more than two years earlier — began pouring across the Southwest border.

The Ultimate Goal of the NSA is Total Population Control

Photo Credit: Getty ImagesWilliam Binney is one of the highest-level whistleblowers to ever emerge from the NSA. He was a leading code-breaker against the Soviet Union during the Cold War but resigned soon after September 11, disgusted by Washington’s move towards mass surveillance.

On 5 July he spoke at a conference in London organised by the Centre for Investigative Journalism and revealed the extent of the surveillance programs unleashed by the Bush and Obama administrations.

“At least 80% of fibre-optic cables globally go via the US”, Binney said. “This is no accident and allows the US to view all communication coming in. At least 80% of all audio calls, not just metadata, are recorded and stored in the US. The NSA lies about what it stores.”

The NSA will soon be able to collect 966 exabytes a year, the total of internet traffic annually. Former Google head Eric Schmidt once argued that the entire amount of knowledge from the beginning of humankind until 2003 amount to only five exabytes.

Binney, who featured in a 2012 short film by Oscar-nominated US film-maker Laura Poitras, described a future where surveillance is ubiquitous and government intrusion unlimited.
