With Only Months Left in Term, Biden Is Starting to Run out of Options in Russia-Ukraine War

As the clock ticks down to January — the end of President Joe Biden’s sole term — the Biden-Harris administration is trying to figure out how to aid Ukraine against Russia with limited and dwindling options.

The Russia-Ukraine war has dragged on for more than two years, and though the Biden administration has devoted over $175 billion in economic and military aid to help Ukraine, it has done little to shift the tides in Kyiv’s favor. The Biden administration, unlikely to receive any more funding for aid from Congress, is looking at alternative choices including loosening weapons restrictions and allowing Ukraine to strike further inside of Russia, The Wall Street Journal reported.

The new policy would only apply to European and other Western weapons, not U.S. systems, according to multiple reports. Secretary of State Antony Blinken hinted on Wednesday that such a move was on the table and strongly being considered.

Lifting the restrictions would represent a major shift in approach from the Biden administration, which has been wary of allowing Ukraine to use Western-provided weapons for deep strikes inside Russia up to this point.

But Ukraine is likely to want more from the Biden administration than being allowed to use European weapons for long-range strikes. Specifically, Ukraine wants to use American-made Army Tactical Missile Systems (ATACMS) to strike Russia, given the high quality and range of the system, though the administration may be more unlikely to grant that request. Parents Ask Supreme Court To Take Up Case Challenging School Policy Pushing ‘Gender,’ ‘Sexuality’ Books On Kids

A group of Christian, Muslim and Jewish parents in Maryland petitioned the Supreme Court Thursday to ask it to take up a case regarding school board policies that keep parents in the dark on books with themes about “gender” and “sexuality” being taught to children.

The case originates from the Montgomery County Board of Education (BOE) instituting an “inclusive” storybook program in 2022 for students in grades pre-K through fifth, initially informing parents of when they would be read until changing that policy in March 2023, also restricting parents’ ability to opt their kids out, according to a press release from the Becket Fund, a non-profit law firm representing the parents. Shortly after the Montgomery BOE announced the change in policy, the group of parents filed a lawsuit against the BOE in May 2023 and lost, and were denied again in May 2024 when they appealed to the U.S. Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals.

The storybooks include topics on gender transitioning, pride parades and preferred pronouns, according to the press release. One book includes terms like “intersex flag” and “drag queen.”

One book mentioned in the suit, called “Jacob’s Room to Choose,” includes two transgender children and a teacher who use a game to convince their class to be “supportive of gender-free bathrooms,” court document states. Another book titled “Pride Puppy,” directed at three and four-year-olds, describes a pride parade and has students identify images including “leather” and “underwear.”

“Most fundamentally, it violates the First Amendment, which guarantees the right of parents to direct the religious upbringing of their children,” Will Haun, an attorney for the Becket Fund, told the Daily Caller News Foundation.

Cause for Concern? Union for Postal Workers Endorses Kamala Harris

The National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC), representing 290,000 active and retired postal workers, has endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for President and Governor Tim Walz for Vice President. This endorsement is notable given the pivotal role the Postal Service will play in the upcoming election, handling millions of mail-in ballots.

The NALC’s endorsement highlights a troubling intersection of politics and election logistics. As the very institution responsible for managing a substantial portion of the voting process, the Postal Service’s support for a particular candidate could undermine public confidence in the electoral system. The endorsement of Kamala Harris, who has been a prominent advocate for expanding vote-by-mail and supported key legislative measures impacting the Postal Service, is particularly concerning.

Kamala Harris has a well-documented history of advocating for policies that favor increased access to vote-by-mail. Her tenure as a senator saw her championing relief measures for the Postal Service during the COVID-19 pandemic and supporting the Postal Service Reform Act as Vice President. While these actions might seem supportive on the surface, they also raise questions about whether such support is reciprocated in the form of endorsements from influential institutions like the NALC.

The endorsement by a major union also highlights a broader political divide on the issue of vote-by-mail. A Pew Research Center report reveals stark contrasts between Republican and Democrat views on this matter. While a significant majority of Democrats advocate for universal vote-by-mail, only a fraction of Republicans share this view. Many Republicans are concerned that expanding vote-by-mail could compromise election security, a sentiment reflected in their opposition to judicially mandated reforms that were frequently pursued by Democrats.

In many democracies around the world, vote-by-mail is either restricted or not widely used, often limited to specific circumstances. The United States’ reliance on this system, especially following changes imposed by judicial decisions and legislative reforms, diverges from global norms and introduces a host of potential vulnerabilities.

Biden Boasts: We Created ‘Black Jobs’

President Joe Biden used the term “black jobs” on Friday, using a phrase that Democrats and journalists said was racist when former President Donald Trump used it to describe jobs taken by migrants from African-Americans.

Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic nominee for president, were both set to speak at the event.

In his remarks, Biden said:

Thank you for all you’ve taught me. Thank you for all the love you’ve extended to me. I also wanted to host this brunch because we have progress to celebrate.

Together, we’re making the most significant investment in black America in all of American history [sic]. We’ve centered racial equity at the center of everything we do. With your help, in just three and-a-half years we’ve created over 2 million new black jobs for black Am — black Americans, a black —

[Interjections]

By the way, the next black job to be filled is as President of the United States of America.

[Applause]

Watch me.

China Able to Spy on US With Intelligence-Gathering Devices on Seaport Cranes, House Report Finds

A Chinese company installed intelligence gathering equipment on cranes used at seaports across the US that could allow Beijing to spy on Americans and cripple key infrastructure, according to a new congressional report.

The Republican majorities on the House Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party and House Homeland Security Committee found that the Shanghai-based, state-owned ZPMC engineering company had pressured American port authorities to allow remote access to its cranes, “with a particular focus on those located on the West Coast.”

“If granted, this access could potentially be extended to other [People’s Republican of China] government entities, posing a significant risk due to the PRC’s national security laws that mandate cooperation with state intelligence agencies,” adds the report, the outcome of a yearlong investigation.

The devices found attached to the cranes include cellular modems that were “not requested by US ports or included in contracts … [and] constitute a significant backdoor security vulnerability that undermines the integrity of port operations,” the report said.

“These unknown modems were believed to be installed under the auspices of collecting usage data for the equipment,” the report said, citing contract documents and statements from port operators. “These modems – although not necessary for the operation of the cranes – created an obscure method to collect information, and bypass firewalls in a manner that could potentially disrupt port operations.” (Read more from “China Able to Spy on US With Intelligence-Gathering Devices on Seaport Cranes, House Report Finds” HERE)

Turkish-Funded Militias Seizing Hundreds of Acres From Christian Syrians

The commander of an Islamist militia has reportedly seized 500 acres of farming land from Christian farmers in the town of Ras Al-Ein in northern Syria near the Turkish border.

The area is under the control of a coalition of Islamist militias that are part of the Syrian National Army, an entity backed by Qatar and Turkey.

The main groups involved in human rights abuses in Ras Al-Ein include the Al-Hamzat Battalion and Jaysh Al-Sharqya, reported the United Kingdom-based watchdog Christian Solidarity Worldwide, citing local sources.

The leader of Jaysh Al-Sharqya, Commander Abou Jammo, was identified as the one who ordered the confiscation, CSW said, adding that the United States has sanctioned these groups for their actions.

Amid rising tensions, the militias have also threatened to increase the tax imposed on farmers from 20% to 35%. (Read more from “Turkish-Funded Militias Seizing Hundreds of Acres From Christian Syrians” HERE)

Florida Investigates Claims That Radical Abortion Group ‘Forged’ Signatures on Ballot Petition

Aradical abortion group in Florida allegedly forged petition signatures for a proposed abortion amendment. The Florida Department of State has launched an investigation.

“Our tolerance in the state of Florida for any type of election-related fraud is zero. We are not going to put up with it,” said Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis in a roundtable Monday. “This group submitted dozens of petitions on behalf of dead people.”

Floridians Protecting Freedom is pushing for an abortion amendment that would change the state constitution to protect the murder of unborn children before “viability.” According to InfluenceWatch, the group is a coalition of abortion interest organizations like Planned Parenthood and ACLU Florida.

FPF’s paid circulators allegedly forged signatures on the amendment petition, and the Department of State’s Office of Election Crimes and Security (OECS) is investigating the matter.

“The department of state has uncovered evidence of illegal conduct with fraudulent petitions,” said Mark Ard, the department’s director of external affairs, in a statement to The Federalist. “We have a duty to seek justice for Florida citizens who were victimized by fraud and safeguard the integrity of Florida’s elections.” (Read more from “Florida Investigates Claims That Radical Abortion Group ‘Forged’ Signatures on Ballot Petition” HERE)

Democrats’ Immigration Crisis Pushes Ohioans To The Breaking Point: ‘Who’s Protecting Us?’

Springfield, Ohio is a blue-collar town of roughly 60,000 residents with a story that’s familiar to dozens of Rust Belt communities across the Midwest that have been transformed by job loss, opioids, and now, open migration.

Schuler’s Bakery greets visitors on the south side of town, not far from the interstate, as a relic of resilience having withstood the challenges faced by a declining economy for decades. Founded in 1937, the local sweet spot can now be found in two locations offering customers the kinds of cakes and pastries that define the small-town memories carried for generations long after residents have left.

The donuts are so rich they can make the teeth ache, but the sugar high is immediately crashed when confronted with the image of a town forever changed by the flood of more than 20,000 Haitian migrants. The horizon from the bakery’s front door introduces visitors to a dilapidated community now presented with traffic hazards as Haitians crowd the streets and parking lots of a Rust Belt community turned into Little Haiti.

“They don’t know how to drive,” a local tow truck driver on the southwest side told The Federalist. “They don’t know how to go by our rules.”

The tow truck operator named David declined to offer a last name out of fear of reprisal to his business, but he made clear that the influx of newcomers has brought more havoc than money to the depressed blue-collar community that was already struggling. Kamala Harris First Solo Interview With Local Pennsylvania Reporter Turns Into Disaster

Vice President Kamala Harris, during her second interview on Friday since joining the race, undermined her record in the Biden-Harris administration by stating the administration’s policies are not fit for the “twenty-first century.”

Harris faces a conundrum: She cannot campaign on policies to fix crime, inflation, and border security without undermining the Biden-Harris administration’s policies, but she must tout the administration’s policies to validate her record and candidacy.

“I’m obviously not Joe Biden, and you know, I offer a new generation of leadership,” she said, providing examples that the Biden-Harris administration failed to achieve, such as helping citizens achieve the American dream:

And so, for example, thinking about developing and creating an opportunity economy where it’s about investing in areas that really need a lot of work, and maybe focusing on again, the aspirations and the dreams, but also just recognizing that at this moment in time, some of the stuff we could take for granted years ago, we can’t take for granted anymore. For example, another plan that I have that is a new approach is to expand the child tax credit to $6,000 for young families for the first year of their child’s life, because that is obviously a very critical stage of development of a child, and a lot of young parents need the help to buy a car seat or a crib or clothes for their kids.

. . .

Taff also asked Harris how she would go about bringing “down prices and making life more affordable for people.”

Harris responded with the same rehearsed answer she used in the debate. “I grew up a middle class kid,” Harris replied, again ignoring the question. As Breitbart News reported, Harris’s claim is “mostly false.” Harris grew up with an affluent Canadian upbringing, growing up in Westmount.
