North Korea Confirms U.S. Army Private Is in Country and Shares Alleged Reason He Entered

North Korea has released its first statement since United States Army Pvt. Travis King crossed over from South Korea into its territory, confirming what was long suspected and alleging why King made the much-questioned decision.

During its investigation, North Korea claims “he confessed that he decided to come over to the DPRK, opposed to inhuman maltreatment and racial discrimination in the US army,” according to the state-run Korean Central News Agency.

“Saying he was disillusioned at the unequal American society, he expressed his will to seek political asylum either in the DPRK or in third country,” the statement continued. “The investigation continues.”

It was July 18 when King bolted across the border while taking a tour of the demilitarized zone that separates the two Koreas. King, who has been a cavalry scout with the Army since January 2021, was supposed to fly home to the U.S. after serving two months in a South Korean prison on assault charges, but he didn’t get on the flight, choosing to cross into North Korea, seemingly on his own volition. Zelensky Fires All Heads of Ukraine’s Military Recruitment Amid Bribery Probe

It’s long been clear that Ukraine’s armed forces have undergone some significant recruitment problems amid generally low morale as throughout the summer the counteroffensive has stalled and appears failing. There’s also a grim emerging consensus that Ukraine is suffering staggering losses. Even just before the counteroffensive’s start, The Washington Post ran headlines such as Ukraine short of skilled troops and munitions as losses, pessimism grow.

Related this are all of the recent videos of young Ukrainian men being conscripted across the country which have widely circulated. Those who are fearful of being sent to the front are often actively engaging in evasive and, in some instances, illegal tactics to avoid such a fate. Some with money can pay off military recruitment officers, perhaps.

This week, even one of Kiev’s most ardent supporters and NATO backers – Poland, has said the counteroffensive is likely to fail. Polish President Andrzej Duda said in a fresh Washington Post interview, “Does Ukraine have enough weapons to change the balance of the war and get the upper hand?” And he answered his rhetorical with – “Probably, no.”

“We know this by the fact that they’re not currently able to carry out a very decisive counteroffensive against the Russian military,” Duda conceded. “To make a long story short, they need more assistance.” And now on the battlefield, the Kharkiv area is being evacuated of civilians amid Russian advances. Russia Launches Its First Mission to Moon in 47 Years

Russia has successfully launched its first moon-landing spacecraft in 47 years in a race to find water on the moon.

A Soyuz 2.1v rocket carrying the Luna-25 craft launched from the Vostochny cosmodrome in Russia’s Far East, some 3,450 miles (5,550 kilometers) east of Moscow, on Friday at 2:11 a.m. Moscow time. A video feed from Russia’s space agency, Roscosmos, showed the Luna-25 craft having launched successfully.

It marks Russia’s first moon mission since 1976, when it was part of the Soviet Union.

The Soviet Union, the United States, and China are the only three nations to have achieved successful moon landings. Now, India and Russia are setting their sights on being the first to land at the moon’s south pole.

India launched its Chandrayaan-3 lunar lander on July 14. The estimated arrival time of the Indian craft is around the same day as Russia’s. (Read more from “Russia Launches Its First Mission to Moon in 47 Years” HERE)

In Ukraine, Russia’s Jamming Leaves U.S. Weapons Useless

Ukraine’s Western allies have provided “sophisticated” missiles, but Russia is countering their effectiveness by scrambling their GPS coordinates, rendering them useless.

. . .According to a report by BBC, Bryan Clark, a senior fellow at Hudson Institute, a U.S. think tank, said that Russia has managed to deploy hundreds of small, mobile electronic-warfare units along the front line in an attempt to slow down Ukraine’s counter-offensive.

Clark also told the outlet that Russian technologies can jam missiles’ GPS coordinates, turn off Ukrainian drones and suppress Russian radar signals that Ukraine use to identify targets to attack.

According to the report, Russia has developed a range of jamming technology such as Krasukha-4, which targets airborne and air defense radars; Zhitel, which suppresses satellite signals; and Leyer-3, a cellular and radio communications jammer.

Numerous sophisticated weapons supplied to Ukraine by NATO countries are also susceptible to such jamming, as they rely on GPS signals for navigation, the BBC reported. (Read more from “In Ukraine, Russia’s Jamming Leaves U.S. Weapons Useless” HERE)

Indian Analyst: World War III Already Started

Robinder Sachdev, president of Imagindia Institute, a New Delhi-based think tank and research center, has shared his predictions on World War III and the possible merger of the BRICS economic bloc and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). The BRICS nations are Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. The SCO members comprise China, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.

“Both BRICS and SCO are initially founded by China and Russia. Many big picture goals of both organizations are same. It is necessary for both organizations to have very different roadmap in future. Otherwise, I have said many times that it is now time to consider merging of the SCO and BRICS into a single organization,” the Indian analyst told Russian news outlet Tass on Friday. He added:

A single merged organization will be much more clearer, stronger and grow into very meaningful pole … Let’s see in next 5 years.

Discussing the BRICS economic bloc’s current position globally, Sachdev emphasized: “BRICS will have to create its own space and find a way to be as effective or more effective than other international organizations.”

He detailed: “If the BRICS countries work together strongly on some common agenda then BRICS can have an important role. If BRICS becomes a strong organization, then it can play very important role in building the new world matrix of the 21st century.” (Read more from “Indian Analyst: World War III Already Started” HERE)

North Korea Responds for First Time About Army Defector Travis King

North Korea has for the first time “responded” to efforts to discuss US Army defector Travis King, more than two weeks after he dashed across the border during a guided tour of the demilitarized zone.

“KPA has responded to the United Nations Command with regards to PV2 King,” the United Nations Command said, using acronyms for the North Korean army and the still-missing soldier’s rank as a private

“In order not to interfere with our efforts to get him home, we will not go into details at this time,” the multinational military force added.

Pentagon spokesperson Brig. Gen. Patrick Ryder said the Hermit Kingdom only acknowledged the UN Command’s request for information about King but stopped short of offering details about him.

“I can confirm that the [Democratic People’s Republic of Korea] has responded to United Nations Command, but I don’t have any substantial progress to read out,” Ryder told reporters. (Read more from “North Korea Responds for First Time About Army Defector Travis King” HERE)

US Spent Years Funding and Training the African Military That Just Overthrew Its US-Backed Gov’t

The United States has sunk $500 million over the last decade into training and equipping Niger’s armed forces, which have now overthrown the democratically-elected president of the country.

Nigerien armed forces declared that they removed President Mohamed Bazoum from power amid a coup that began last Wednesday, spearheaded by a general who studied at the Department of Defense-backed College of International Security Affairs, Reuters reported. The U.S. has spent $500 million on training and arming Nigerien soldiers and stationing more than 1,000 U.S. troops in the region, according to the U.S. Embassy in Niger.

Secretary of State Antony Blinken said over the weekend that the U.S. partnership with Niger is in “clear jeopardy.”

“Our economic and security partnership with Niger, which is significant, hundreds of millions of dollars, depends on the continuation of the democratic governance and constitutional order that has been disrupted by the actions in the last few days,” Blinken said at a press conference on Saturday. “So that assistance, that support, is in clear jeopardy as a result of these actions, which is another reason why they need to be immediately reversed.” (Read more from “US Spent Years Funding and Training the African Military That Just Overthrew Its US-Backed Gov’t HERE)

Kim Jong Un Decorates Walls With Huge Portraits of Putin (VIDEO)

Images posted Friday by North Korean state media show that the country’s leader, Kim Jong Un, had large portraits of Russian President Vladimir Putin installed throughout an official building.

The portraits can be seen in photographs of Kim with Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, who is visiting Pyongyang this week to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the end of the Korean War, which is called “Victory Day” in North Korea.

Max Seddon, the Moscow bureau chief for the Financial Times, noted the presence of the portraits—which are visible in multiple rooms of the building—and created a slideshow that he posted on Twitter.

Though Putin didn’t accompany Shoigu to Pyongyang, he sent a letter to Kim that was published by the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) on Friday. (Read more from “Kim Jong Un Decorates Walls With Huge Portraits of Putin” HERE)

Mystery Outbreak of a Deadly, Paralyzing Disease Has Experts Baffled

A national state of emergency has been declared in Peru as doctors battle an outbreak of a rare disease that can cause lifelong paralysis or death.

More than 230 cases of Guillain-Barré syndrome have been reported in the South American country, with more than half the cases occurring in a brief five-week period from June to July.

Normally a rare disorder, GBS typically strikes only about 3,000 people per year in the US, according to Johns Hopkins Medicine.

Four people in Peru have reportedly died of the disease since the beginning of the year, and the still-unknown cause of the outbreak has health officials scrambling.

“I think the origins of this [outbreak] remain still not completely investigated,” Dr. William Schaffner, an infectious disease specialist at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee, told Healthline. US Citizens Will Need to Pay for a Visa to Travel to Europe Starting in 2024

Long gone are the days of spontaneous holidays overseas.

Beginning in 2024, the European Union will require visitors to get pre-approval via the European Travel Information and Authorisation System — and that goes for summer jet-setters from the US.

Before securing tickets, lodging, or a reservation at that trendy hotspot you saw on TikTok, vacationers will need to submit an ETIAS application for approximately $8.

Applicants will need to provide travel documentation, such as a passport, as well as personal information, education level, current occupation, anticipated trip details, and any criminal convictions.

While most applications are processed within minutes, some take longer to yield a decision and the European Union advises visitors to apply “well in advance.” (Read more from “US Citizens Will Need to Pay for a Visa to Travel to Europe Starting in 2024” HERE)
