Attorney: University Broke Law by Banning Crosses on Football Helmets

Photo Credit: Todd Starnes / Arkansas
Arkansas State University violated the law when they ordered football players to either remove or modify crosses they had affixed to their helmets, a prominent religious liberty law firm alleges.

The cross decals were meant to memorialize former player Markel Owens who was killed in January and former equipment manager Barry Weyer, who was killed in a June car crash.

“ASU’s actions in defacing the students’ memorial stickers to remove their religious viewpoint is illegal viewpoint discrimination against the students’ free speech,” said Hiram Sasser, director of litigation for Liberty Institute.

Sasser, who is representing an unnamed student, gave the university until Wednesday to “cease your censorship and publicly acknowledge, in writing, the right of ASU’s students to engage in private speech, including speech in the form of a cross-shaped helmet sticker memorial to their former colleagues.”

The memorial drew the ire of a Jonesboro, Arkansas attorney along with the Freedom From Religion Foundation, a Wisconsin-based group of perpetually offended atheists.

Study Proves Abortion is More Dangerous Than Childbirth

Photo Credit: LifeNewsPro-abortion activists fight for abortion throughout pregnancy for any reason—no exceptions. Their fundamental argument centers on women’s health.

But stunning research shows this concern is all smoke and mirrors.

Pro-abortion activists have long tried to claim that abortion is safer than childbirth. For years they’ve touted manipulated numbers, trying in vain to bolster this myth. We’ve always known those statistics were bogus, and a study by Dr. Priscilla Coleman and Dr. David Reardon reveals abortion is much more dangerous to women than giving birth. And the results are sadly even more devastating to women’s health than even I had anticipated.

First, let me vouch for the authors of this research. I know them both to be solid individuals with a reputation for thoroughness. I met Dr. Coleman in Santiago, Chile where we lectured at their largest university. We again shared an academic podium in Quito, Ecuador the following year.

Second, allow me to explain why this study is so important. It’s compelling because of its unmatched scope…

Minnesota’s Largest High School Ditches Michelle O’s Lunch Rules

Photo Credit: EAG NewsThere’s a sign in the lunchroom of Minnesota’s Sartell High School: Students can choose two packets of barbecue sauce, or three ketchup packets, or two ketchups and a mustard, or just one packet of mayonnaise.

The new condiment quotas are the product of new federal regulations that strictly limit calories, fat, sodium, sugar and most other nutritional elements of school snacks and lunch foods.

The rules, championed by First Lady Michelle Obama as a means to combat childhood obesity, are part of the Healthy and Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010. The measure, implemented in phases since 2012, overhauled the National School Lunch Program to force schools that receive federal lunch funding to offer “healthier” meals and school snacks for students.

But the overbearing regulations have thus far convinced a record number of students to bring their lunches from home. Lunchrooms across the country are experiencing significant revenue loss, and increasing waste due to a requirement that all students take a fruit or vegetable, whether they eat it or not.

As a result, many districts are opting to forego their federal funding to serve students food they want to eat.

Premature Twins Born One Week Before Legal Abortion Limit Miraculously Survive

Photo Credit: TownHallJust one day after the parents of a premature baby in England released a picture of their newborn in the hopes of pushing back against legal late-term abortions comes another amazing story. In this new story, the parents of premature twins are talking about what happened to their children since they were born just one week ahead of Britain’s legal abortion limit.

Nichola Baird, 30, was overjoyed when told she was expecting twins but Kyle and Jake arrived just 23 weeks into the pregnancy and thelegal limit for abortions in the U.K. is 24 weeks — and higher in some cases. Research shows that babies born before 24 weeks can survive but babies at this age range are killed in abortions each and every year.

The twins were born weighing just over 1lb – the equivalent of three apples and they were rushed to critical care in different hospitals due to complications. Both required operation to close a valve in their hearts and Jake needed an operation on his bowel at just 13 days old.

Miraculously, the tots were allowed home after 17 weeks in hospital and are now healthy .

3-Year-Old Boy Born Without Fingers Gets “Iron Man” Hand Thanks to 3-D Printer

Photo Credit: LifeNewsA three-year-old Hawaiian boy received a robotic hand thanks to a 3D Printer. Nicknamed “Bubba”, Rayden Kahae was born without fingers due to Amniotic Band Syndrome (ABS), which occurs when an unborn baby becomes entangled in the fibrous string-life amniotic bands in the womb. The bands restrict blood flow and can cause a wide spectrum of clinical abnormalities.

West Palm Beach TV shares more:

His grandmother, Rulan Waikiki, says, “Bubba was born with ABS which is amniotic band syndrome. It’s where the baby’s hands end up without some fingers, some with none, couple little stumps instead of fingers.”

But it’s life as he knew it. And while he thrived, he too knew he was different.

“He knew from earlier on when he could notice that his sister had two hands and he didn’t, that he always said he doesn’t like that hand he wanted one like Tita’s,” Waikiki said.

Photo Credit: LifeNewsAt almost 20 weeks of pregnancy, Tom Riles and his wife lost their unborn son Scotland Bansley Riles to miscarriage. Riles said that when they received the news that the baby had died in the womb, they were offered several options – go to a “clinic” to “take care of the situation” or go to the Hospital.

I held you on Friday night for the first and last time ever. It was one of the saddest, proudest, most heartbreaking, and beautiful moments of my life. It was an honor to hold you.

I’m proud of you, son. Even though you only made it halfway through the pregnancy, you have left a mark on our family that will last forever. Because of you, I love my wife more than ever. Because of you, I feel a stronger connection with my kids then ever. When I hug them, I feel your presence…

Public Schools Forcibly Subject Students To ‘Meatless Monday’ Activism

Photo Credit: Getty Images / Alex WongTaking a page from long-standing Christian tradition — particularly Catholic tradition — taxpayer-funded public schools across the United States are now denying children the option of eating meat for lunch one day each week.

For Catholics, and for different reasons, that day has been Friday for centuries. For American school children, the trendy new day of forswearing carnivorous deliciousness is Monday.

“Meatless Monday” bills itself as an international campaign “launched in association with the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.” It was founded by Sid Lerner, a longtime Madison Avenue advertising executive.

The goal is to convince people to choose to give up meat one day each week because, as the Meatless Monday website explains, it’s “fantastic for the planet.”

And so, in the semi-rural town of Dripping Springs, Texas, for example, school district officials are choosing to force kids to forgo meat and poultry.

MIT Study Suggests Marriage is Key to Closing Education Opportunity Gap

Photo Credit: TownHall“Education is the most important predictor of income today,” President Obama stated last December during his remarks on the economy. In an attempt to improve education, Obama purportedly launched Race to the Top and encouraged states to revise their standards. The trouble is, Obama, as he so often does, got the solution wrong.

The administration’s $4.35 billion Race to the Top Initiative reportedly encouraged states to make unrealistic goals and “failed to focus on the core drivers of opportunity gaps.” New standards set in place via Common Core have also proved ineffective, and states continue to opt-out of the government’s push for a one-size-fits-all program.

So what is the answer? MIT economists David Autor and Melanie Wasserman suggest that encouraging a strong family units is key. According to their report “Wayward Sons: The Emerging Gender Gap in Labor Markets and Education…”
