Planned Parenthood to Open $2M Mega-Facility in Florida, Local Residents and Doctors Upset

Planned Parenthood is spending $2 million to open a new 10,000 square foot abortion facility in Kissimmee – the largest yet in Central Florida – and local residents are begging city officials to stop them.

“We do not want a death factory in our back yard,” one resident said at a Tuesday city commission meeting, which attracted hundreds of citizens to protest the facility’s planned May opening.

Another begged, “Do not let one of our attractions be baby-killing.”

But Kissimmee Mayor Jim Swan told residents that local zoning laws leave the city with no option but to let the facility open as planned. “The folks moving in there are providing medical services, just like the person who just left, so there’s no rezoning. There’s no [change of] land use,” Swan told WFTV-9. “We had no authority. I know most folks don’t understand that.”

The majority of city officials told residents they were personally against allowing the abortion facility to open, and that they hoped to take the issue to the state legislature, at a minimum to address whether the facility will receive state funding.

An alert reader sent The Daily Caller this image of her seven-year-old son’s perfectly reasonable homework answer. The boy attends a public elementary school in San Jose, Calif. He is in the second grade.

The math curriculum used by the school is GO Math! The publisher of GO Math! is Houghton Mifflin Harcourt.

The parent who sent the homework question to TheDC noted that the curriculum aligns with the Common Core math standards.

Common Core: Anatomy of a Failure

When Bill and Melinda Gates go to Africa and see healthy people and sick people, they presumably have a single thought: what can we do to make everyone healthy? The problems are easily understood; goals can be clearly stated. Given a big commitment, there’s a high chance of success.

When Bill Gates looks at education in America and sees good students and bad students, he probably assumes that these variations are part of the human condition. That’s not a promising problem to focus on.

What fascinates Bill Gates is something else entirely: namely, the variety and incoherence from school to school, city to city, and state to state. It looks so messy and inefficient. And he thinks: a guy with my money and management skills should be able to organize all this disorder, turn it into an efficient machine, save the country, and make another fortune in the process.

Potentially all true.

But at that moment he has lost the game. Because he is no longer talking about educational goals, which must be our main concern. He is talking about standardization. He is talking about a tidier assembly line. (But nobody ever said that democracy is supposed to be tidy. Dictatorship is tidy.)

Bill Gates brought a programmer’s sensibility to education. There is a maximally efficient way to design a piece of software. So let’s do that, and stop all this other nonsense. Bad plan, even with the best of intentions.

The Common Core State Standards Initiative is widely denounced for imposing confusing, unhelpful experimental teaching methods, involving test problems that lack essential information and sometimes make no sense whatsoever.

Some 45 states and the District of Columbia have so far adopted Common Core standards, leaving students all around the United States to puzzle over Common Core’s mysterious logic and language.

Here are eleven Common Core–compliant problems that have caused parents, students, and even teachers to scratch their heads or respond in outrage:

Campus Reform’s Katherine Timpf attended the National Young Feminist Leadership Conference (NYFLC) — an event which promised to be about “inclusivity” and welcoming everyone — only to be told that “conservative” women were not welcome.

Timpf attempted to ask students’ their opinions on feminism, but conference organizers made an announcement advising participants not to talk to Campus Reform because it was a “conservative” outlet.

The organizers also followed Timpf around the conference to interrupt her conversations with students to tell them the same thing.

“They’re a group that’s conservative, so what we are fighting for is not something…” one organizer told a student who was talking with Timpf, prompting the student to walk away.

Gosnell Movie Breaks New Ground

The College Conservative has extensively covered the murderous Philadelphia abortion doctor, Kermit Gosnell. Gosnell was charged in 2011 with 8 counts of murder, 24 counts of medical malpractice, and 24 counts of illegal abortions beyond the legal limit of 24 weeks.

What’s worse is that those charges are just the items that the courts were able to prosecute. The full horrors that took place were described in the 200 page Grand Jury Report:

This case is about a doctor who killed babies and endangered women. What we mean is that he regularly and illegally delivered live, viable, babies in the third trimester of pregnancy – and then murdered these newborns by severing their spinal cords with scissors. The medical practice by which he carried out this business was a filthy fraud in which he overdosed his patients with dangerous drugs, spread venereal disease among them with infected instruments, perforated their wombs and bowels – and, on at least two occasions, caused their deaths. Over the years, many people came to know that something was going on here. But no one put a stop to it.

The conservative media watched Gosnell closely, making sure that this man and the crimes of other men like him were exposed publicly for what they really were: murder. Despite those efforts, it’s safe to say that a majority of Americans still don’t know who Gosnell is, or the crimes he committed.

That, however, is all about to change.

Pro-Abortion Obama: ‘Every Child Should Have Every Chance in Life’

President Barack Obama – the first sitting president to address Planned Parenthood Federation of America – issued a proclamation on Monday marking National Child Abuse Prevention Month.

“In the United States of America, every child should have every chance in life, every chance at happiness, and every chance at success,” Obama said in the proclamation.

In March 2003, then-Illinois’ State Senator Obama chaired the committee that considered the Born-Alive Infants Protection bill (SB 1082), which he voted to kill.

According to the National Right to Life Committee, the state legislation that Obama voted against is almost identical to the federal legislation that protects children who survive an abortion that became law in 2002.

How To Be A Lesbian In 10 Days. New College Seminar Proudly Offered By A University Of South Carolina Campus (+video)

According to this, the University of South Carolina Upstate (USCU) is going to host a seminar which will teach students how to be a lesbian in 10 days or less.

Because who doesn’t need to learn that, I ask you?

“Theater artist” Leigh Hendrix will be performing her one-woman show called How To Be A Lesbian in 10 Days Or Less which will apparently focus on LGBTQHIJKLMNOP cultural mores. Part of the show includes Hendrix asking her audience to participate by shouting out, “I’m a big ‘ol dyke!”

Keep Calm and Refuse the NYS Tests

While her son’s fourth-grade classmates were taking the nation’s first round of tests under the controversial Common Core program, Heidi Indelecato decided to teach her son a lesson in civil disobedience.

“We respectfully refuse to participate in the test,” said Indelecato, whose son Benjamin attends school in Lancaster, N.Y., which on Tuesday became the first state to administer testing under the Common Core State Standards Initiative.

So while other kids sat poised with their No. 2 pencils above Scantron sheets, Benjamin studied with his mother, who documented the occasion with a picture of the pair wearing T-shirts that read: “Keep calm and and refuse the NYS tests.”

Common Core was adopted by 45 states, although Indiana withdrew last month. The set of standards, devised by the nation’s school superintendents at the behest of the National Governors Association, seeks to set a uniform standard for grades K-12, to ensure kids all over the nation reach the same minimum level of learning.

The program involves testing of students in grades 3-8 and high school testing is scheduled to begin next year.New York implemented the standards a year early.

Judge Allows Arizona Law Restricting Non-Surgical Abortions to Take Effect

America’s most stringent restrictions on the use of abortion drugs were allowed to take effect Tuesday by a federal judge’s ruling in the latest in a series of court fights over Arizona abortion laws.

US district judge David C Bury on Monday refused to stop the new rules just hours before they were to take effect. Opponents of the rules said they would continue to challenge the restrictions in court.

Bury made his ruling in response to a lawsuit by Planned Parenthood Arizona and the private abortion clinic Tucson Women’s Center, who say the rules severely infringe on a woman’s ability to have an abortion. He was asked to grant an injunction that would have blocked the rules from taking effect.

The rules were released in January by the Arizona department of health services. They ban women from taking the most common abortion-inducing drug – RU-486 – after the seventh week of pregnancy. Existing rules allow women to take the abortion pill through nine weeks of pregnancy.

Planned Parenthood estimates that 800 women would have had to get surgical abortions in 2012 if the rules were in effect then. An attorney for the organization also told the judge last week that the new rules could force its Flagstaff, Arizona, abortion clinic to suspend operations.
