The family of the Florida grandparents missing in the aftermath of the Surfside building collapse told The Post Tuesday they are still getting mysterious phone calls from the couple’s landline — at least 20 since the catastrophe.

Dianne Ohayon said the family’s latest sliver of hope came early Monday, when her younger sister received a call from their parents, Myriam and Arnie Notkin.

“They’re coming in every day,” Ohayon, 56, said of the eerie calls.

California Bans Taxpayer-Funded Travel to These GOP States

California prohibited state-funded travel to five more Republican-led states Monday that have passed legislation allegedly discriminating against members of the LGBTQ community.

“When states discriminate against LGBTQ+ Americans, California law requires our office to take action,” Democratic Attorney General Rob Bonta said in a statement. “These new additions to the state-funded travel restrictions list are about exactly that. It’s been 52 years to the day since the Stonewall Riots began, but that same fight remains all too alive and well in this country.”

“Rather than focusing on solving real issues, some politicians think it’s in their best interest to demonize trans youth and block life-saving care. Make no mistake: We’re in the midst of an unprecedented wave of bigotry and discrimination in this country – and the State of California is not going to support it,” he continued.

His state, by the way, is working on new election integrity laws, too, as several other states already have adopted, drawing the wrath of President Biden’s attorney general, Merrick Garland.

Paxton confirmed Texas “will prosecute voter fraud every time we find it.”

Maricopa County Says Voting Machines Subpoenaed for 2020 Election Audit Won’t Be Used in Future

By Washington Examiner. Voting machines subpoenaed by the Republican-led Arizona Senate for its audit of the 2020 election will be removed from service, Maricopa County officials announced on Monday.

Maricopa County Attorney Allister Adel responded to a May 20 letter from Arizona’s Democratic Secretary of State Katie Hobbs, who advised the county to replace its voting machines over concerns the review compromised their “security and integrity.” The audit included the capturing of information from the equipment leased from Dominion Voting Systems, a voting machine company that has faced and engaged in litigation to fight a wave of election fraud claims.

“The voters of Maricopa County can rest assured, the County will never use equipment that could pose a risk to free and fair elections. The County recognizes Secretary Hobbs’ authority under A.R.S. § 16-442 to certify equipment for use in Arizona’s elections. As a result, the County will not use the subpoenaed equipment in any future elections,” the county said in a statement on Monday.

“Maricopa County noted this potential risk in February when it asked the court for guidance on the Senate subpoenas. Since then, the County has implemented back up plans that include acquiring new tabulation equipment for the March and May jurisdictional elections in 2021,” the statement added. Report: William Barr Called Former President Trump’s Election Fraud Claims ‘Bullsh*t’

By Breitbart. Former Attorney General William Barr reportedly described former President Donald Trump’s claims about election fraud as “bullshit,” according to a book on the final days of his administration.

The disclosure is from the book titled Betrayal by ABC News chief Washington correspondent Jonathan Karl that is scheduled to be released in November, according to the Hill. . .

“My attitude was: It was put-up or shut-up time,” Barr reportedly told Karl. “If there was evidence of fraud, I had no motive to suppress it. But my suspicion all the way along was that there was nothing there. It was all bulls**t.”

Barr also looked into allegations that voting machines across the country were rigged to switch Trump votes to Biden votes. He received two briefings from cybersecurity experts at the Department of Homeland Security and the FBI. “We realized from the beginning it was just bulls**t,” Barr told me, noting that even if the machines somehow changed the count, it would show up when they were recounted by hand. “It’s a counting machine, and they save everything that was counted. So you just reconcile the two. There had been no discrepancy reported anywhere, and I’m still not aware of any discrepancy.”

Manhattan DA Isn’t Filing Charges Against Trump

Manhattan District Attorney Cy Vance has indicated he does not currently plan to charge the Trump Organization with crimes related to allegations of “hush money” payments and real estate value manipulations, according to a personal lawyer for Donald Trump.

Ronald Fischetti, a New York attorney who represents the former president, said on Monday that in a meeting last week, he asked Vance’s team for details on charges they were considering.

According to Fischetti, members of Vance’s team said they were considering bringing charges against the Trump Organization and its individual employees related to alleged failures to pay taxes on corporate benefits and perks. It has been widely reported that those perks included cars and apartments and appear to only involve a small number of executives. Authorities Recover Tenth Body Following Florida Condo Collapse

A tenth body was recovered Monday, with 151 people still remaining unaccounted for on the fifth day of ongoing search and rescue efforts in Surfside, Florida.

As of Monday, ten people were confirmed dead as the result of the disaster, bringing the total number of the missing to 151, according to The Associated Press (AP).

Although no survivors have been recovered from the rubble of the collapsed condominium since Thursday, the officials are committed to exhausting “every possible option in our search,” Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava said Monday, AP reported.

White House Defends Olympian Who Turned Back on U.S. Flag

White House press secretary Jen Psaki on Monday defended the “peaceful protest” of Olympic hammer thrower Gwen Berry, who on Saturday turned away from the US flag while the national anthem played and covered her head with her T-shirt that read, “Activist Athlete.”

Asked by a reporters what President Biden thought of the move by Berry, which critics have slammed as unpatriotic and unbecoming of a Team USA member that will represent the United States in Tokyo, Psaki seemed to say he would be understanding.

“I haven’t spoken to the president specifically about this, but I know he’s incredibly proud to be an American and has great respect for the anthem and all that it represents, especially for our men and women serving in uniform all around the world,” Psaki said at her daily press briefing.

Psaki added: “He would also say, of course, that part of that pride in our country means recognizing there are moments where we are — as a country, haven’t lived up to our highest ideals. And it means respecting the rights of people granted to them in the Constitution to peacefully protest.”

Toyota Doubles Down, Defends Donations To Republicans After Online Outrage

Toyota defended its decision to spend tens of thousands of dollars in donations to over three-dozen Republicans that objected to certifying the Electoral College votes in the 2020 presidential election.

Toyota donated a total of $55,000 to 37 GOP lawmakers who objected to the certification of the Electoral College’s votes during the 2020 presidential election, Axios reported Sunday. A company spokesperson told the outlet that they do not believe a member of Congress’ standpoint on the election should be a factor in the company’s decision to offer a donation, but refused to donate to members that “undermine” American elections.

“We do not believe it is appropriate to judge members of Congress solely based on their votes on the electoral certification,” the spokesperson said in a statement. “Based on our thorough review, we decided against giving to some members who, through their statements and actions, undermine the legitimacy of our elections and institutions.”

The Japanese automaker highly outnumbered every other corporation, including Koch Industries, that had donated money to Republicans who objected to the certification, according to Axios. Cubic Corp., a defense contractor based in San Diego, made the second largest number of donations, while Deere & Company and AT&T made one donation to an election objector PAC. By New York Post. The developers of the Miami condo tower that collapsed were once accused of paying off local officials to get permits for the site — which needed $15 million in repairs just to bring it to code, a new report says.

Building rivals claimed that the partners behind Surfside Champlain Towers South were receiving preferential treatment when it came to getting through the permit system as the site was being built in 1981, the Washington Post said.

Surfside’s developers had contributed to the campaigns of at least two town-council members, then demanded that the donations be returned when the allegations surfaced, according to the outlet.

Meanwhile, the 12-story tower had been on the verge of undergoing $15 million in renovations to pass a required 40-year certification when it collapsed, killing at least nine people and leaving more than 150 unaccounted for Thursday, the report added. Florida Tower Survivor Describes Anguished Cries of Trapped Neighbors

By New York Post. A resident of the collapsed condo tower recalled to The Post on Sunday how he could hear his terrified neighbors screaming, “Help me! Get me out!” as the structure crumbled around them.

Steve Rosenthal, 72, said he first heard the “largest thunderclap” of his life around 1:30 in the morning Thursday.

“Five seconds later, the bed and the room start shaking. I figure OK, I am dreaming,” said Rosenthal, who works in advertising and entertainment, outside a Marriott hotel in Miami Beach set up for the tower’s evacuees.

Then dust started pouring down from his ceiling, so Rosenthal ran into the hallway. There he saw the hall ceiling caved in and heard the cries from his neighbors.

Report: Florida Residents Were Told Condo Was Safe Despite MAJOR Issues

By NPR. Just one month after an engineering report warned of “major structural damage” that required immediate repair, a Surfside, Fla. official assured residents of Chaplain Towers South that their building was sound.

NPR has obtained minutes of a Nov. 2018 meeting that shows a Surfside town inspector met with residents of the building, and assured them the building was “in very good shape.” NPR learned of the meeting from a resident who was in attendance and who in an interview with Weekend Edition recalled being told that the building was not in danger.

Police Officer Put On Leave for Off-Duty Prayer

An announcement from the Thomas More Society has confirmed that a police officer in Kentucky will be returning to his duties after being put on leave for an investigation for praying.

“We are happy for the officer that the Louisville Police Department finally did the right thing and put a good policeman back on the streets,” said Thomas More Society attorney Matt Heffron. “But it is astounding to those of us defending him – shocking actually – that the police department would treat a hardworking, loyal officer this way. They left him twisting in the wind for four months because of off-duty prayer.”

The case is concluding with a decision by officials that there will be no discipline for the officer, whose name was not released.

The circumstances were that the officer, before dawn on a Saturday morning in February, “quietly had prayed along with his father for less than an hour in front of the EMW Women’s Surgical Center,” the local abortion business, the society reported.

Thousands of Vaccinated People Hospitalized or Dead Due to COVID ‘Breakthrough’ Cases

The latest figures from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reveal more than 4,000 people who have been vaccinated against COVID-19 have died or been hospitalized from “breakthrough” infections.

The exact number is 4,115 either hospitalized or dead despite being fully inoculated.

The CDC says the number of people who have died from COVID-19 after getting the shot is 750, with 76 percent of deaths and hospitalizations among folks over the age of 65.

“As of June 21, 2021, more than 150 million people in the United States had been fully vaccinated against COVID-19,” the health agency explained.
