Joe Biden’s Cringe-Worthy Remarks About Indian-Americans

It’s not the worst thing on the record, but Joe Biden just needs to stick to the script. I mean, he’s already having difficulty with that, so let’s not overwhelm him. And it doesn’t help that it was an awkward moment with an ethnic group he’s denigrated before. The president said that Indian Americans are taking over the country during a call with NASA scientists who successfully landed a rover on Mars (via Washington Examiner):

President Biden quipped that Americans of Indian descent are taking over the country during a call to congratulate NASA scientists and engineers, led by Swati Mohan, whose team successfully landed the Perseverance rover on Mars.

Biden was quick to put his words in the context of celebrating the diversity of America, but the line could be added to the 78-year-old’s list of awkward comments.

Perseverance traveled about 300 million miles before landing on Mars two weeks ago as part of a study to establish whether the planet ever hosted life.

The president, who has had a career of verbal slips and a tendency to speak in a folksy manner, spoke to the team behind the Mars mission in a video conference call on Thursday evening.

GOP Grills Biden Nominee for Top Defense Post

Republicans on the Senate Armed Services Committee hammered President Joe Biden’s nominee for a top Pentagon post over his support for the Iranian nuclear deal, his criticism of the U.S. embassy’s move to Jerusalem, and his history of “inflammatory” comments against Republicans and members of Congress on Twitter.

Republican members on Thursday cited numerous heated public statements by Colin Kahl, a former Obama State Department official whom Biden tapped for undersecretary of defense for policy, including some of his Twitter posts reported by the Washington Free Beacon on Thursday.

In one tweet, Kahl called the Republicans “the party of ethnic cleansing,” and in another he claimed that critics of the Iran deal “won’t be satisfied until they get the war they’ve pushed for decades.” Kahl’s Twitter feed includes numerous barbs at individual Republican senators, as well as the party as a whole, which he described in 2017 as “a clown show.”

Sen. Jim Inhofe (R., Okla.), the ranking member on the committee, said, “What concerns me here is that hyper-partisanship, especially in regards to our national security, is inappropriate for a position of undersecretary of defense for policy.”

Kahl apologized during the hearing for some of his Twitter posts, calling them “disrespectful.” (Read more from “GOP Grills Biden Nominee for Top Defense Post” HERE)

Veeps Emerge for a 2024 Trump Ticket That Could Reshape Republican Party

Former President Donald Trump is barely out of the White House, let alone declaring he will actually run for a second term. Yet, the starting gun was seemingly fired this week on the race to become the former president’s running mate in 2024, with advisers suggesting his best chance of reclaiming the office resides in choosing a black or female sidekick.

Trump’s spokesman was quick to deny that any such conversations are taking place at his post-presidential Mar-a-Lago residence, but the speculation will fuel a long-running conversation about how the Republican Party adapts to the country’s changing demographics and broadens its support.

“If Trump runs, whoever he picks as VP is going to have a claim on the presidential nomination in 2028,” said Robert Shapiro, professor of politics at Columbia University. “They’d be picking the next leader of the Republican Party, and it certainly makes sense from a demographic standpoint to pick a woman or a minority.” . . .

On Wednesday, Bloomberg reported that close advisers were telling Trump to exclude Pence from a possible 2024 ticket. Instead, they raised the possibility of a black or female vice president, with two backing South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem, who is popular with the Trump base.

A day earlier, Trump endorsed South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott’s reelection. He is the only black Republican in the Senate. (Read more from “Veeps Emerge for a 2024 Trump Ticket That Could Reshape Republican Party” HERE)

CEO of CNN’s Parent Company Caught Boasting COVID-19 Has Been ‘Really Good for Ratings’

The CEO of WarnerMedia, parent company of CNN, recently bragged to attendees at a virtual tech conference that the coronavirus pandemic has been “really good” for the left-leaning network’s “ratings.”

Jason Kilar reportedly made the incredible comments during a keynote address at Morgan Stanley’s Technology, Media and Telecom Conference, according to Wall Street media reporter Joe Flint. . .

In his tweet, Flint cautioned Kilar to be careful, warning him that his comments came off similarly to remarks made by CBS executive Leslie Moonves back in 2016, when Moonves said, Trump’s presidency “may not be good for America, but it’s damn good for CBS.”

Lawmakers Voting To Strip Cuomo’s COVID Powers Amid Recent Scandals

The Democratic-led New York state Legislature is expected to pass a measure today that will neuter Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s emergency powers — granted last year to manage the coronavirus pandemic — in a bid to take back some control from a governor facing spiraling twin scandals involving nursing home deaths and sexual harassment allegations.

The state’s top Democrats after Cuomo — state Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins (D-Westchester) and Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie (D-The Bronx) — scheduled a special session for Friday morning at 10 a.m. to pass a bill that will strip the governor of his ability to issue executive orders tied to the coronavirus state of emergency.

The legislation would ban Cuomo from creating any new directives without the Legislature’s OK, and would bar the extension of any existing directives unless deemed “critical to public health.

The measure would take effect immediately once Cuomo signs it — which he indicated he was willing to do during a Tuesday press conference where he signaled he “agreed” with the lawmakers’ plans. (Read more from “Lawmakers Voting To Strip Cuomo’s COVID Powers Amid Recent Scandals” HERE)

Democrats Rage as $15 Minimum Wage Effort Fails

Several prominent Democrats expressed disappointment and frustration after several Democrats joined Republicans in the Senate in rejecting Sen. Bernie Sanders’ (I-VT) effort to raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour.

While the Senate parliamentarian ruled that the $15 minimum wage hike could not be included in the $1.9 trillion coronavirus relief measure, Sanders, as well as his far-left allies, attempted to pave a way to make the hike a reality.

Seven Democrats, as well as an independent who caucuses with the Democrats, joined Republicans in rejecting the effort on Friday. Those include Sens. Joe Manchin (D-WV), Jon Tester (D-MT), Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ), Maggie Hassan (D-NH), Chris Coons (D-DE), Tom Carper (D-DE), and Angus King (I-ME).

“There is not one state in our country where you can make ends meet on the current federal minimum wage. Not one! How quickly would Congress raise the minimum wage if they were forced to live on $7.25 an hour?” Sanders asked Friday afternoon. “Outrageous”:

Biden Wants New War Powers Vote in Congress for Authorizing America’s Foreign Wars

The White House on Friday said it is “committed” to working with Congress on new legislation to repeal current presidential war powers to be replaced with a “narrow and specific framework” to protect U.S. national security, while “ending the forever wars.”

The commitment comes after a bipartisan group of senators, led by Sens. Tim Kaine, D-Va., and Todd Young, R-Ind., on Wednesday called for the repeal of presidential war powers granted by Congress in 1991 and 2002, which would revoke authorization for military force in the Middle East, as tensions rise between the U.S. and Iran.

Things to Know About H.R. 1, ‘For the People Act’; ‘Every Single American Should Be Outraged’ by H.R. 1 Passage

By Breitbart. House Democrats passed H.R. 1, the so-called “For the People Act,” on Wednesday. The bill would radically change American democracy, nationalizing elections and making permanent changes to voting rules that would virtually ensure Democrats never lose another election.

The bill is 791 pages long — a massive piece of legislation, adopted with little examination or debate. Some provisions — like expanding access for voters with disabilities, improving election security, and ensuring that all voting machines use in U.S. elections are also manufactured in the U.S. — are uncontroversial. Others are potentially explosive. . .

Federal control over congressional elections: The bill begins by declaring that “Congress finds that it has broad authority to regulate the time, place, and manner of congressional elections under the Elections Clause of the Constitution.” The Constitution actually gives primary authority to the States, but allows Congress to “make or alter such Regulations.” The House Democrats interpret this provision as dramatically as possible to override the states.

Declaring that “States and localities have eroded access to the right to vote”: The bill declares that photo ID, “burdensome” voter registration procedures, purges of ineligible voters, restrictions on vote-by-mail, rules against felons voting, and other measures that states and municipalities have taken to guarantee the integrity of elections are, in fact, “restrictions on the right to vote.” It also suggests these are forms of “racial discrimination” and “systemic racism.”

Restricting challenges to H.R. 1 to the federal court system in D.C.: The bill declares that the only courts with jurisdiction to hear challenges to its constitutionality, or to the validity of regulations promulgated under the law, are courts within Washington, D.C. — a notoriously Democrat-friendly jurisdiction. That minimizes the chances that any challenges could be brought to more conservatives courts, or to judges appointed by past Republican presidents. Steve Scalise: ‘Every Single American Should Be Outraged’ by H.R. 1 Passage

By Breitbart. “Every single American should be outraged” by the Democrat-led House passing H.R. 1, or the “For the People Act,” Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA) said Wednesday evening.

“Democrats just voted to ban voter ID nationwide and force every state to permanently expand mail-in voting,” he explained following the bill’s passage, which was praised by congressional Democrats:

The House passed the bill Wednesday evening on party lines, prompting praise from Vice President Kamala Harris, who said she looks forward to “working with Congress to strengthen our democracy and protect the voting rights of all Americans.”:

Pence Slams Democratic Voting Reform Bill HR 1 as an ‘Unconstitutional Power Grab’

By Business Insider. Former Vice President Mike Pence came out swinging on Wednesday, writing an op-ed that criticized House Democrats’ sweeping election reform bill as “unconstitutional power grab.” . . .

In his article for The Daily Signal, Pence argues that the bill would take away responsibilities that should be left to the states.

“Election reform is a national imperative, but under our Constitution, election reform must be undertaken at the state level,” he wrote. “Our Founders limited Congress’ role in conducting our elections for good reason: They wanted elections to be administered closest to the people, free from undue influence of the national government.”

He added: “While legislators in many states have begun work on election reform to restore public confidence in state elections, unfortunately, congressional Democrats have chosen to sweep those valid concerns and reforms aside and to push forward a brazen attempt to nationalize elections in blatant disregard of the US Constitution.” (Read more from “Pence Slams Democratic Voting Reform Bill HR 1 as an ‘Unconstitutional Power Grab'” HERE)

Texas Governor Fires Back at Biden: Releasing Migrants With COVID Is ‘Neanderthal Thinking’

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott fired back at President Biden on Thursday for accusing him and other red-state leaders of “Neanderthal thinking” for lifting COVID-19 mask mandates — insisting it is the president who has primitive policy logic.

In an interview with “Fox and Friends,” Abbott took a swing at Biden after more than 100 illegal immigrants who tested positive for the coronavirus were released by the Border Patrol into the Lone Star State.

“First, it obviously is not the type of thing that the president should be saying,” Abbott said on the show. “But, second, he kind of said it on the worst day he could have, because the same day he said that in Texas, the Biden administration was releasing illegal immigrants into our communities who had COVID.”

He added, “The Biden administration was exposing Texans to COVID. That is a Neanderthal-type approach to dealing with the COVID situation.” (Read more from “Texas Governor Fires Back at Biden: Releasing Migrants With COVID Is ‘Neanderthal Thinking’” HERE)

Pelosi’s Left-Wing Security Czar Demands More Fencing, More Troops, And More Money For Capitol ‘Security’

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi’s pick to lead a Capitol security investigation in the wake of the Jan. 6 riot is recommending that Congress step up measures to bring in more fencing and more officers and to establish a full-time task force to guard the historic building that will cost up to $130 million a year.

After conducting a six-week reportedly “nonpartisan” investigation, Lt. Gen. Russel L. Honoré, who previously received backlash for hurling multiple partisan insults at congressional Republicans, even calling for some such as Sens. Josh Hawley and Ted Cruz to “be run out of DC and Disbarred ASAP,” concluded in a report obtained by Fox News that the Capitol needs a “quick reaction force” that will always be on guard. The decision, the report states, follows the “understaffed, insufficiently equipped, and inadequately trained” police meant to protect the Capitol on Jan. 6 and comes even though National Guardsmen are scheduled to remain in Washington, D.C., for at least two more months.

The “quick reaction force,” the 33-page report states, can consist of either “existing law enforcement entities,” instated under the D.C. National Guard or a rotation of Guardsmen from around the country, or be created as a group “that permanently resides within the DC Guard by reestablishing a military police battalion and staffing it with Active Guard Reserve troops who live in or near the city year-round, perpetually on active duty.”

In addition to a 24-hour reaction force, the report also recommends installing a “mobile fence option” around Capitol grounds that can be “easily erected and deconstructed.” Repairs to the building itself, the report notes, should also be made a priority to ensure “long-term improvements to perimeter fencing and security surveillance sensing systems.” (Read more from “Pelosi’s Left-Wing Security Czar Demands More Fencing, More Troops, And More Money For Capitol ‘Security’” HERE)
