Senate Confirms Jennifer Granholm to Lead Energy Department

The Senate confirmed President Biden’s 10th cabinet member on Thursday afternoon, as a few nominees face bipartisan pushback. Former Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm (D) was confirmed by the Senate to serve as Biden’s Secretary of Energy.

While she received bipartisan support, Granholm’s vote was closer than other nominees brought forth by the president. The Senate confirmed her by a vote of 64-35.

At the time of her nomination, Biden touted Granholm’s record on clean energy. She will be tasked with assisting Biden in transitioning the country predominately to clean energy by 2050, with carbon neutrality. (Read more from “Senate Confirms Jennifer Granholm to Lead Energy Department” HERE)

Judge Deals Blow to the Nationwide Eviction Moratorium

Who knew the feds telling property owners they couldn’t kick out tenants who didn’t pay their rent might be unconstitutional? A federal judge in Texas did, ruling on Thursday that the CDC’s eviction moratorium violated the U.S. Constitution.

“Although the COVID-19 pandemic persists, so does the Constitution,” wrote Judge Barker in a 21-page opinion.

Instituted under President Trump, the moratorium on evictions made it a crime for landlords to evict certain tenants who are unable to pay rent during the pandemic. President Biden and Congress extended the moratorium through March.

At question in the case was whether or not a nationwide eviction moratorium violated the limited powers of the federal government. The judge found that it did, noting the federal government has never claimed such a broad power throughout the nation’s history until last year. Declassified Docs Show FBI Spying on Trump Camp Far Wider Than Thought

The scope of the FBI’s spying on the 2016 Trump campaign was much wider than previously thought, according to newly declassified memos obtained by Just the News.

The aim of the Obama administration’s Trump-Russia collusion probe was to find “anyone” in the Republican campaign tied to Russia who was trying to get dirt “damaging” to Clinton, the documents show.

Immediately after opening the probe in July 2016 with a focus on campaign aide George Papadopoulos, FBI agents pressed their source Stephan Halper for information on other Trump campaign figures. They included future Attorney General Jeff Sessions, foreign policy adviser Sam Clovis, campaign chairman Paul Manafort, economic adviser Peter Navarro, future National Security Adviser Michael Flynn and campaign adviser Carter Page.

An early FBI electronic communication from Halper’s undercover work stated: “The Crossfire Hurricane investigative team is attempting to determine if anyone in the Trump campaign is in a position to have received information either directly or indirectly from the Russian Federation regarding the anonymous release of information during the campaign that would be damaging to Hillary Clinton.”

The documents show agents directing an undercover informant to make secret recordings and pressing for intelligence on numerous GOP figures. (Read more from “Declassified Docs Show FBI Spying on Trump Camp Far Wider Than Thought” HERE)

Senator to Transgender HHS Pick: Do You Support Amputating Kids’ Private Parts?

At a confirmation hearing Thursday, Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., confronted President Biden’s nominee for assistant secretary of Health and Human Services on the government’s support for “sex-change” treatment and surgery.

The exchange was particularly significant because the nominee is Dr. Rachel Levine, who would become the first transgender U.S. official if confirmed. . .

“Dr. Levine, do you believe that minors are capable of making such a life-changing decision as changing one’s sex?” Paul asked. . .

Paul pressed further, asking, “Do you support the government intervening to override a parent’s consent to give a child puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones, and/or amputation surgery of breasts or genitalia?”

Levine dodged again, repeating the previous answer while welcoming a discussion about the issue with Paul and his staff if confirmed. (Read more from “Senator to Transgender HHS Pick: Do You Support Amputating Kids’ Private Parts?” HERE)

Kamala Has to Remind Joe to Wear His Mask

Vice President Kamala Harris had to remind President Joe Biden to re-don his mask Thursday after he left it at a podium during a speech at the White House. . .

“For God’s sake, wear a mask!” Biden said during his speech, marking the 50 millionth shot of the coronavirus vaccine administered to Americans.

But after his speech, Biden wandered away from the podium without his mask and spoke to a nurse who had administered vaccine shots earlier in the event.

As Biden approached her to greet Harris, the vice president looked at him and asked,”Where’s your mask?” (Read more from “Kamala Has to Remind Joe to Wear His Mask” HERE)

Report: FBI Investigating Members of Congress as Riot ‘Suspects’!

By WND. Hundreds of people have been investigated for their roles in the riot at the U.S. Capitol in January, and many have been arrested and face charges ranging from trespassing on up.

Now, some members of Congress also are being investigated by the FBI as suspectets, the Intercept reported.

Within hours of the riot, the FBI began obtaining thousands of phone and electronic records involving people at the scene, including members of Congress, the publication said.

“Using special emergency powers and other measures, the FBI has collected reams of private cellphone data and communications that go beyond the videos that rioters shared widely on social media,” the Intercept said, citing two sources.

The FBI obtained the information through emergency orders that do not require court authorization as well as data downloads from cellphone towers in the area. (Read more from “Report: FBI Investigating Members of Congress as Riot ‘Suspects’!” HERE)

U.S. Has the Power to Arrest Feds Attempting to Enforce Gun Control

Any state or federal agent looking to enforce gun control laws is going to want to think twice before heading to Newton County, Missouri, where the county commissioners recently reaffirmed their commitment to the Second Amendment. Under the newly-passed ordinance, the county sheriff has the authority to arrest anyone enforcing anti-gun legislation.

“Newton County Missouri declares that it must be the duty of the courts and law enforcement agencies to protect the rights of law-abiding citizens to keep and bear arms and that no person, including a public officer or county employee of this county or any political subdivision of this county, can have the authority to enforce or attempt to enforce and federal laws, orders, or rules infringing on the right to keep and bear arms,” the ordinance stated. . .

Commissioners also took into account any potential anti-gun legislation and policies currently in the pipeline, whether in Congress or the White House. That is why the ordinance said the county would not recognize any laws that would limit a citizen’s right to keep and bear arms. Those laws would be deemed “null and void” in Newton County. Where Did Millions of Dollars in Donations to Black Lives Matter Go?

Last year Black Lives Matter Inc. raked in tens of millions-of-dollars as cities around the country were burned in riots, totaling more than $1 billion in damage.

But according to a new report from the Associated Press, the $90 million donated to the political group in 2020 isn’t reaching local activists. BLM has been around since 2014 and has been backed by big name celebrities and the Democrat Party. . .

“The operations of Black Lives Matter have always been opaque, with thousands of members and dozens of affiliates. Two of its three co-founders are no longer affiliated with the movement — even as they continue to represent Black Lives Matter on TV. Local Black Lives Matter activists say national leaders cut them off from funding and decision-making, leaving them broke and taking the movement in a direction with which they fundamentally disagree. And as the Black Lives Matter movement grows in influence, with millions in donations and celebrity endorsements, local organizers argue they’re the ones in the streets pushing for change — and they’re not getting their due,” the outlet reported in December.

So, where did the money go? And how is it being used now? It’s still hard to tell. (Read more from “Where Did Millions of Dollars in Donations to Black Lives Matter Go?” HERE)

Judge Overturns Biden’s Deportation ‘Pause’ Indefinitely

A federal judge in Texas on Wednesday extended his order halting President Biden’s 100-day pause on the deportation of illegal immigrants.

After issuing a two-week restraining order on Jan. 26, U.S. District Judge Drew Tipton indefinitely banned enforcement of Biden’s Inauguration Day memorandum.

The order comes in a lawsuit by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton that argues Biden’s policy violates federal law and an agreement with the Department of Homeland Security requiring that Texas be consulted before any such move.

Biden’s 100-day pause was part of his effort to reverse the immigration policies of the Trump administration, stopping through executive action border wall construction and the Migrant Protection Protocols. He’s now pushing legislation that would include a path to citizenship for most of the illegal immigrants in the country, which various estimates place between 11 and 22 million. Congressional Republicans Introduce National Right-to-Work Bill

Congressional Republicans reintroduced an act Wednesday that would allow employees to opt out of labor union membership.

The National Right to Work Act would repeal provisions that mandate that employees pay union dues as a condition of employment. The bill would achieve this goal by amending existing labor law that allows for the deduction of union dues from paychecks.

The reintroduction of the legislation comes as Democratic leaders signal their support for the Protecting the Right to Organize Act, which would drastically overhaul national labor laws. The act, which passed the Democratic-controlled House of Representatives in 2020, weakens right-to-work laws passed by more than half of the states in the country and recategorizes millions of independent contractors as employees. President Joe Biden said he would support the enactment of the PRO Act.

Sen. Rand Paul (R., Ky.) previously introduced the right-to-work bill in February 2019, but it did not come up for a vote in the Senate. Rep. Joe Wilson (R., S.C.) introduced the bill in the House. (Read more from “Congressional Republicans Introduce National Right-to-Work Bill” HERE)
