Supreme Court Justices Say 2015 Same-Sex Marriage Decision Having ‘Ruinous Consequences’

Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito said Monday that Obergefell v. Hodges, the Supreme Court case that mandated all states recognize same-sex marriages, is “found nowhere in the text” of the Constitution and threatens “the religious liberty of the many Americans who believe that marriage is a sacred institution between one man and one woman.”

The statement was written by Thomas and joined by Alito about the case of Kim Davis, a former Kentucky county clerk who said she would not give same-sex couples marriage licenses. The two justices said they agreed with the consensus of the court that it should not take Davis’ case, but only because it did not “cleanly present” the “important questions about the scope of our decision in Obergefell.”

Thomas and Alito dissented from the original Obergefell decision and their statement Monday could indicate that they would vote to overturn it if presented the chance.

“[T]his petition provides a stark reminder of the consequences of Obergefell. By choosing to privilege a novel constitutional right over the religious liberty interests explicitly protected in the First Amendment, and by doing so undemocratically, the court has created a problem that only it can fix,” Thomas wrote. “Until then, Obergefell will continue to have ‘ruinous consequences for religious liberty.'”

Obergefell was decided in 2015 by a 5-4 court, with then-Justice Anthony Kennedy writing the majority opinion joined by Justices Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Sonia Sotomayor, Elena Kagan and Stephen Breyer. Serious Coronavirus-Related Condition May Be Impacting More Than Originally Thought

A rare but serious coronavirus-related inflammatory condition in children was also recently identified among adults, per a report released Friday from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C) usually involves shock, heart malfunction, stomach pain and hyperinflammation. The CDC drew on reports of 27 adult patients to describe a new, similar condition — multisystem inflammatory syndrome in adults (MIS-A).

“These 27 patients had cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, dermatologic, and neurologic symptoms without severe respiratory illness and concurrently received positive test results for SARS-CoV-2…,” per the report. Fortunately, the vast majority (24 of 27) of MIS-A patients survived, which was said to mirror outcomes seen in MIS-C patients treated in intensive health care settings.

There is still much unknown over MIS-A, with a deal of uncertainty over the timeline from SARS-CoV-2 infection to MIS-A onset, but the report suggests “MIS-A and MIS-C might represent postinfectious processes.” Adults who reported typical COVID-19 symptoms went on to develop MIS-A about two to five weeks later.

Patients with MIS-A may not test positive for COVID-19, given the onset of the syndrome weeks later. The agency emphasized the importance of antibody testing for previous SARS-CoV-2 infection to recognize and treat MIS-A. Governor Sued for Removing Mail-In Ballot Drop Boxes

There’s controversy in Texas because Governor Greg Abbott wanted to prevent voter fraud and ordered that ballots had to be returned to a single clerk’s office in every county. This means there would be only one location per county where mail-in ballots could be dropped off rather than put in the mail.

Voting rights advocates are screaming that being unable to drop off ballots in boxes instead of mailing them constitutes “voter suppression,” so they’re suing Abbott to force him to put the boxes back.

Who would this inconvenience? The usual suspects: old people, handicapped people, and minorities. No one has yet explained why mail-in ballots simply can’t be mailed, but I’m sure there’s a very good reason.

Washington Post:

“The impact of this eleventh-hour decisions is momentous, targets Texas’ most vulnerable voters — older voters, and voters with disabilities — and results in wild variations in access to absentee voting drop-off locations depending on the county a voter resides in,” the lawsuit stated. “It also results in predictable disproportionate impacts on minority communities . . . already hit hardest by the COVID-19 crisis.”

Woman Comes Forward With More Disturbing Allegations About Ghislaine Maxwell, Claims Her Life Was Threatened

By New York Post. A Manhattan-born woman has claimed that she was “gagged, restrained and raped” by Ghislaine Maxwell — before Jeffrey Epstein joined in on the attack, according to an interview published Sunday.

The new accuser — identified by the pseudonym “Samantha” — told The Sun that she was violently assaulted after she recruited a 19-year-old friend for the notorious pedophile and told her to lie that she was 16.

She claimed she was then summoned to Epstein’s Manhattan mansion where British media heiress Maxwell took her to a massage room and started screaming that she was a “dirty, filthy whore, [a] lying whore.”

“The next thing I knew she had a ball gag in my mouth, my hands around my back and she was raping me with a sex toy,” she claimed of the alleged attack when she was a 21-year-old Parsons student. . .

“I remember her giving me $300 and saying, ‘Don’t think about going to the authorities because you won’t be alive to see your day in court,’ or something like that,” Samantha told the paper. Chris Christie in Hospital After Being Diagnosed With COVID-19

Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie announced Saturday that he was in a hospital after having tested positive for the coronavirus earlier in the day.

“In consultation with my doctors, I checked myself into Morristown Medical Center this afternoon. While I am feeling good and only have mild symptoms, due to my history of asthma we decided this is an important precautionary measure,” Christie wrote on Twitter. “I am thankful for our hardworking medical professionals and look forward to coming home soon.”

He tweeted earlier Saturday that he had “just received word” that he was positive and would be “receiving medical attention.”

Christie, a close ally of President Donald Trump, is one of a growing number of Republicans who have been diagnosed with the coronavirus after having attended a Rose Garden ceremony Sept. 26 in honor of Trump’s Supreme Court nominee, federal appeals Judge Amy Coney Barrett. Biden Reveals Whether or Not He’s Showing up to the Next Debate

Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden will travel to Florida to participate in the next debate and hopes that President Trump will be able to join him despite the president testing positive for the novel coronavirus late last week.

Symone Sanders, a senior campaign adviser to Biden, said on Sunday that the former vice president is “looking forward” to the Oct. 15 town hall-style debate in Miami and that he is hoping Trump will be well enough to attend.

“We are looking forward to the debate on Oct. 15 in Miami,” Sanders said during an interview on CNN’s “State of the Union.” “It’s a town hall and, as you know, Vice President Biden loves a good town hall.”

Sanders added: “And we are hoping President Trump can participate. We’re hoping that he’s medically able to participate, and that is up to his doctors to clear him. But Joe Biden will be at that debate.”

The future of the next presidential debate was thrown in jeopardy after the president revealed in the early morning hours last Friday that he and First Lady Melania Trump had contracted the coronavirus. Since Trump’s announcement numerous members of his White House inner circle and his reelection campaign have come down with the contagion. QAnon Reigns Free on Amazon Despite Its Recent Ban of Proud Boys Merchandise

Amazon continues to offer over 2,000 products related to the QAnon conspiracy theory on its marketplace, despite its recent bans on merchandise related to the Proud Boys and the Washington Redskins.

The QAnon conspiracy theory took off in late 2017 after an individual purporting to be a confidant of President Donald Trump began posting messages to anonymous internet message boards claiming that the commander in chief is secretly fighting Democrats and “deep state” operatives involved in a worldwide child sex trafficking ring.

The FBI specifically mentioned the QAnon movement in a May 2019 bulletin warning that fringe conspiracy theories are domestic terrorist threats that could drive “groups and individual extremists to carry out criminal or violent acts,” Yahoo News reported. . .

Among the products related to the conspiracy theory available for purchase on Amazon’s marketplace include the 2019 book, “QAnon: An Invitation to The Great Awakening.” (Read more from “Qanon Reigns Free on Amazon Despite Its Recent Ban of Proud Boys Merchandise” HERE)

Ex-CIA Director Reveals Internal Division at Spy Agency Over Trump-Russia Intelligence

Former CIA Director John Brennan reveals in a forthcoming book and interview that there was internal division at the spy agency over the level of confidence in an intelligence assessment that Vladimir Putin directed Russia’s election interference in the U.S. specifically to help Donald Trump.

According to The New York Times, Brennan describes in his memoir and in an unaired interview that two senior CIA officials pushed back in early 2017 against analysts’ assessment that they had a high level of confidence about Putin’s motives.

The officials lobbied Brennan for a medium-level confidence rating for the intelligence.

“They came up and talked to me about it and I listened to them because I wanted to make sure I understood exactly what their concerns were,” Brennan told C-SPAN in an interview yet to be aired. “And I encouraged them to talk to the authors of the assessment and determine if the judgment should stay at high confidence or medium confidence.”

An Intelligence Community Assessment (ICA) released on Jan. 6, 2017, said that the CIA and FBI had a high level of confidence that the Russian government and Putin directed the election activities in order to help Trump by smearing Hillary Clinton. The National Security Agency had a medium-level confidence rating in the intelligence. (Read more from “Ex-CIA Director Reveals Internal Division at Spy Agency Over Trump-Russia Intelligence” HERE)

MSNBC Host Believes Trump Is Faking COVID Diagnosis

MSNBC’s Joy Reid is pushing the idea that President Donald Trump’s Wuhan coronavirus is a hoax. The so-called “motivation” for the ruse would be to get out of the next presidential debate, which is scheduled for Oct. 15. It was a clear nod to the Presidential Debate Commission contemplating whether or not debate moderators should have the ability to cut off the microphones of disruptive candidates.

Reid posted her conspiracy theory on Twitter on Friday:

If someone on the right posted these kind of conspiracy theories if the roles were reversed and Joe and Jill Biden had the coronavirus, the left would trash them. They would say the right is being mean and cruel. Why is it that decorum goes out the window when it comes to President Trump?
