Former first lady Michelle Obama, in a measured but searing address Monday to close out Democrats’ opening convention night, accused President Trump’s White House of operating in “chaos” and without “empathy” as she urged voters to cast their ballots for Joe Biden like their lives depend on it.
In prerecorded remarks, Obama stressed the “awesome power of the presidency,” while saying the job “requires clear-headed judgment, a mastery of complex and competing issues, a moral compass and an ability to listen.”
She added: “Whenever we look to this White House for some leadership or consultation or any semblance of steadiness, what we get instead is chaos, division and a total and utter lack of empathy.” . . .
Trump campaign adviser Steve Cortes told Fox News’ Laura Ingraham that they presented a “dystopian” picture of the country. And the unusual format, at the first-ever virtual political convention, also raised eyebrows as videos of musical performances and news-style segments hosted by Eva Longoria were interspersed with remarks from lawmakers.

CLAIM: At the Democrat National Convention (DNC), New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) suggested the Chinese coronavirus, also known as COVID-19, “infected the northeast” from Europe.
VERDICT: False. Federal officials with the State Department and the intelligence community have said evidence is clear that the coronavirus originated in Wuhan, China, before spreading around the world and eventually to the United States.
On Monday evening, during his speech at the DNC, Cuomo labeled the coronavirus “the European virus,” suggesting it arrived from Europe, not China.
“In fact, [the White House] didn’t even see it coming. Arrest Occurred Just Hours Before the Release of Deep State Documentary
By Erin Laviola. Millie Weaver is a conservative filmmaker who was arrested at her home in northeastern Ohio hours before she was scheduled to debut her new documentary called Shadow Gate on YouTube. Weaver claimed she had uncovered a plot, orchestrated by both major political parties, against President Donald Trump and that the documentary would explain how it all worked.
The timing of her arrest flamed conspiracy theories online, with critics wondering whether the arrest was related to the Shadow Gate documentary. Heavy confirmed with the Portage County Jail that Weaver, along with her significant other, Gavin Wince, were both arrested on August 14 on felony charges including robbery and domestic violence. There is no evidence to suggest her arrest was related to the documentary. . .
Millicent Weaver and Gavin Wince were both arrested by the Portage County (Ohio) Sheriff’s Office on August 14. Inmate records show they were booked into the Portage County Jail around 1:50 a.m. . .
Weaver had described Shadow Gate as the “biggest whistleblowing event ever” on her website. Weaver claimed in a trailer ahead of the film’s release that she had spoken with two people with knowledge of a secret organization of “contractors.” She claimed the contractors were “hired by government officials to frame the Trump campaign, set him up for the Russia collusion investigation, provided witnesses for the impeachment hearings and provided administrative support services to the Department of Justice during the Mueller investigation.”

Charges Stem from an Altercation Months Before
By Corry Shaffer. The felony charges against InfoWars correspondent Millie Weaver stem from an April incident where Weaver, her boyfriend and her brother grabbed her mother, threw her to the ground and stole her cellphone, according to a police report of the incident released Monday.
Weaver’s mother, 51-year-old Felicia McCarron, told Portage County sheriff’s deputies on April 25 that she was recording audio of the trio verbally abusing her when they saw her cellphone in her back pocket and attacked her, a copy of the report obtained by cleveland.com shows.

President Trump’s Younger Brother, Robert, Has Died
By CNBC. Robert Trump, the younger brother of President Donald Trump, has passed away, the White House said in a statement late Saturday.
“It is with heavy heart I share that my wonderful brother, Robert, peacefully passed away tonight,” the president said in the statement. “He was not just my brother, he was my best friend. He will be greatly missed, but we will meet again.”
There were conflicting reports about whether he was 71 or 72, according to NBC News.
The president traveled to New York City on Friday to visit his ailing younger brother who was back in hospital.

The family of a deceased South Carolina grandmother is demanding answers after they say officials listed “COVID-19 complications” on the death certificate — despite the grandmother never testing positive for the virus.
Kimberly Klosterman told WIS-TV that her 79-year-old grandmother Joan Hill died on July 31 after suffering from dementia for years. Hill had moved into the home of her daughter, Klosterman’s mom, in January, and was receiving in-home hospice care, according to WIS.
Upon receiving Hill’s death certificate, her family was shocked — it listed both Alzheimer’s disease and COVID-19 complications as the cause of death.
But that is not correct, the family told WIS. That’s because Hill never tested positive for coronavirus, nor did she ever exhibit symptoms of the virus.
“That was wrong. She had never been tested before or after death, so I wasn’t sure how that could even be listed on her death certificate,” Klosterman explained. “She was breathing fine; that was the last thing to go for her. House Financial Services Committee Chairman Maxine Waters (D-CA) on Saturday made the case that President Donald Trump should be ousted from the White House. According to Waters, the 25th Amendment would allow Congress to make the move.

He’s pitting people against each other, going back to the old birther argument that they attempted to use against Obama. This is a president that is the most deplorable human being that I have ever encountered in my life. And he’s undermining our democracy,” Waters said during an MSNBC interview on Saturday. “We cannot take any more of this president. This president is not only attacking the person that was just appointed or selected by Biden to be his vice president, and he is not hesitant to do it. This man has no shame. The name-calling, he called her nasty, on and on and on. I don’t know how much more the American people can take.”
The California congresswoman cited President Trump’s take on the United States Postal Service and how he’s “undermining our democracy” to say Section 4 of the 25th Amendment would mean Congress could oust him from the White House.
“As a matter of fact, when you couple that with what he’s doing, undermining our democracy, tearing up our post office, I believe that it is time for Section 4 of Amendment 25 to be put in place and his cabinet should send to Nancy Pelosi, the speaker, as identified in the Constitution, that this man should be removed from office. Biden leads President Donald Trump by just four points nationally — 50 percent to 46 percent — and by even less across 15 battleground states that will determine who wins the electoral college. In those 15 states — Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, and Wisconsin — the new CNN poll has Biden leading by just one percent, with Biden at 49 and Trump at 48.
The top line national number of a four-point race represents a double-digit shift in Trump’s direction from CNN’s last national poll in early June. That survey, two months ago, had Biden up 14 points — meaning this latest survey represents a ten-point swing Trump’s way as the summer has progressed heading into the conventions.
The Democrats begin their virtual convention, during which Biden and his running mate Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) will be formally nominated as the presidential and vice presidential candidates, this week. The Republicans hold their convention the following week. . .
