You Just Can’t Make This Up: This Is What California Dems Are Proposing to Address Its Rat Problem

California’s decades-long affair with liberal politics has brought disease—literally. Rats are overrunning parts of the state. It’s only amplified by the rising homelessness crisis. For a region of the country that is smug, wealthy, and condescending to no end about how great they are—they do have a lot of bums in the street, fecal matter in the street, and hypodermic needles in the street. San Francisco is covered in crap. And the solution is quite simple: clean up the damn cities. But that would mean be mean to homeless people or something. Well, they’re ground zero for the rat infestation, which has brought back diseases we haven’t seen on such a daily basis since medieval times. Typhus has broken out. Police stations in Los Angeles were forced to pay fines that soared into the thousands of dollars due to the unsanitary conditions. City hall is running wild with rats. And now the state EPA office in Sacramento was forced to close its outdoor playground due to their rat problem; they were worried about kids getting sick. And what is the state proposing now? Oh, they want to ban rat poison (via WSJ):

Democrats in Sacramento are now moving legislation to ban “second-generation” rodenticides that are more potent than earlier poisons against which rats have developed immunity. “Predatory species, such as raptors, bobcats, and foxes, regularly consume rodents as part of their diet. Poisoned rodents also become more lethargic and exhibit abnormal behavior,” a bill analysis notes. But “data are less conclusive in pointing to [anticoagulant rodenticides] as the specific cause of death in necropsied animals.”

Trump Administration Ending Automatic Citizenship for U.S. Troops’ Children Born Abroad

The Trump administration announced Wednesday that children born overseas to American servicemembers and government employees will no longer be granted automatic U.S. citizenship under a new rule slated to go into effect Oct. 29 of this year. . .

The policy alert issued by U.S. Citizen and Immigration Services was first reported by San Francisco Chronicle reporter Tal Kopan, and officials confirmed the guideline change to military and veteran-focused publication Task & Purpose. . .

USCIS spokesperson Meredith Parker confirmed to Task & Purpose, “The policy change explains that we will not consider children who live abroad with their parents to be residing in the United States even if their parents are U.S. government employees or U.S. service members stationed outside of the United States, and as a result, these children will no longer be considered to have acquired citizenship automatically.” . . .

DYING CULTURE: Marvel to Feature First Homosexual Superhero

After vague promises that the Marvel Cinematic Universe will feature openly LGBT characters, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige confirmed this week that the studio’s upcoming film series “The Eternals” will include the MCU’s first openly gay superhero.

Speaking to “Good Morning America” in a segment that aired Monday, Feige commented on what GMA describes as “the most diverse Marvel’s cast yet, including an openly gay character.”

“He’s married, he’s got a family, and that is just part of who he is,” Feige told the show, opting not to reveal yet which of the characters he was describing. (Video below; relevant segment begins at around the 1:30 mark.)

As revealed at Disney’s “D23 Expo” last weekend, “Game of Thrones” actor Kit Harington has been added to an already star-studded cast for new series. ET Online reports that among the big-name star appearing in the “ambitious” project alongside Harington are Angelina Jolie, Salma Hayek, Richard Madden, Gemma Chan, Kumail Nanjiani, and Brian Tyree Henry. The film is slated to open in theaters on November 6, 2020. . .

While “The Eternals” will feature Marvel’s first openly gay male superhero, he won’t be the first openly gay character in the MCU. “Avengers: Endgame,” which dominated the box office this year, includes a character — named simply “Grieving Man” in the credits — participating in a support group hosted by Captain America/Steve Rogers. Grieving Man, played by co-director Joe Russo, tells the group that he’s dating another man, but it’s difficult to manage in the grim, “post-Snap” world. The moment was met with backlash from some critics, including Gizmodo’s Charles Pulliam-Moore, who were upset about the “inconsequential” manner in which the MCU’s first gay character was presented. ‘Homewrecker’ Ilhan Omar Refuses to Acknowledge Affair Allegations

Far-left Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) was slammed online on Tuesday after news broke about her alleged affair with a Democrat consultant with many calling the scandal-ridden first-term congresswoman a “homewrecker.” . . .

The report spurred widespread mockery of Omar, who often presents herself as being morally superior to others. . .

Omar claimed that she had not separated from her husband and was not seeing someone else in an interview with a local CBS News affiliate, adding: “As I said yesterday, I have no interest in allowing the conversation about my personal life to continue and so I have no desire to discuss it.”

Another 2020 Candidate Just Dropped Out; Trump Mocks: ‘She was the one I was really afraid of’

By Daily Wire. On Wednesday afternoon, Democratic New York Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand announced that she has dropped out of the 2020 presidential race.

“Today, I am ending my campaign for president,” Gillibrand said in an announcement posted on Twitter and first reported by The New York Times. “I am so proud of this team and all we’ve accomplished. But I think it’s important to know how you can best serve. To our supporters: Thank you, from the bottom of my heart. Now, let’s go beat Donald Trump and win back the Senate.”

“I wanted you to hear it from me first, that after more than eight incredible months, I’m ending my presidential campaign,” the senator says in the video announcement. “I know this isn’t the result we wanted. We wanted to win this race. But it’s important to know when it’s not your time, and to know how to best serve your community and country. I believe I can best serve by helping to unite us to beat Donald Trump in 2020.”

Gillbrand exited the Democratic primary after the latest batch of polls did not help her qualify for the September debate. She was among several candidates who fell short of the 130,000-donor threshold and failed to reach 2 percent in four separate polls. . .

Border Apprehensions Continue to Drop, but Are Agents Freed up to Actually Patrol?

Guess what happened once our government telegraphed the message that people can no longer come here and be released: They stopped coming in large numbers.

Nine days ago, I reported, based on exclusive data measuring apprehensions in the state of Texas, that weekly apprehensions in the Lone Star State had dropped 54 percent from the peak of May through the first week of August. Well, now I have obtained data from the next two weeks in August, ending on the 21st of the month, and the numbers have dropped another 19 percent statewide. During the reporting week ending Wednesday, August 21, there were 7,605 illegal aliens apprehended in Texas, for a total drop of 62 percent from the worst week at the end of May and early June.

The sharpest drop is among those coming from Guatemala. The numbers are down 74 percent in Texas from the peak in the first week in June. After being the top country of origin for quite a while, Guatemala’s numbers are now close to parity with those of El Salvador, which has long been the number three country of origin in Central America. All the diplomacy with Guatemala’s government is sending the right message.

Between sending planeloads of illegal aliens back to Guatemala, forging a safe third-country agreement, returning many other illegal aliens to Mexico, and barring anyone who could have applied for asylum in Mexico from applying here, the message has finally been sent that we are closed for business. Moreover, this was all before the administration announced the most critical policy of all late last week – that it will no longer be releasing family units pursuant to the Flores settlement. The numbers will likely plummet in the coming days as a result of these factors.

So here’s the obvious question: If the numbers have been cut at least in half, shouldn’t twice as many agents now be available to patrol the line against the really bad guys being smuggled in by the cartels as well as the previously deported criminal aliens seeking to re-enter? In other words, shouldn’t the Border Patrol be returning to patrolling?

I asked one veteran agent in the Rio Grande Valley (RGV) if the morale of his colleagues is better in light of the reprieve from family units. Surprisingly, he sounded a pessimistic tone. “Yes, the family units are down, but nothing has changed on the operational side of Border Patrol’s core mission to hold the line at the river and defend against drugs and bad guys,” said the agent, who must remain anonymous because he is not authorized to speak to the media. “We’re still only averaging 10-15 people patrolling roughly 60 miles in most stations.”

When I asked why the number of agents in the field isn’t back up, given that the number of aliens to process has dropped, he said they are still being held in reserve “in case our numbers go back up.” He also pointed to the fact that agents are still pulled off to transport aliens to the new facilities and to man them rather than housing those caught at the nine permanent stations. “It would surprise everyone to know that the stations are actually empty now. For whatever reason, what was designed originally to handle an emergency overflow are now being used as the holding facility of first resort, and this drains extra manpower, especially now that DHS has pulled the other manpower from other agencies assisting us.”

Another more junior agent in a different station in the Rio Grande Valley confirmed with CR that “the number of agents on the line in my station has not gone up at all” and that their own stations are empty because the migrants are all being transported to the new facilities. He expressed concern that “with cartels losing millions in revenue they were used to getting every week from human smuggling, they are now doubling down on drug trafficking, yet we still don’t have more agents to deter them.”

“They are still not taking the cartels seriously and are more concerned with using agents for humanitarian backup,” said the more junior agent.

I reached out to Customs and Border Protection’s (CBP) press office in the Rio Grande Valley to confirm whether or not the number of agents on the line has not increased and whether the agents are being diverted to man the new facilities because the migrants are not being kept at the stations. CBP did not immediately respond to this request for comment.

Aside from drugs, there is the issue of previously deported criminal aliens who are still making their way back into the country. If agents are still at crisis levels on the line, then although the mass migration may have been solved, the more targeted illegal immigration of criminals and gang members still remains a problem. Just this week, agents in the RGV caught a pair of previously convicted sex offenders coming back into the country. One had been charged with lewd and lascivious acts with a minor in Los Angeles, and the other served time for criminal sex conduct in Michigan. The previous week, they caught an MS-13 member and another criminal alien who was convicted of “criminal sexual assault of a victim between 13 – 15 years of age and accosting children for immoral purposes” in Michigan.

With so few agents on the line, and the smugglers strategically crossing their drug traffickers and other criminals in order to avoid detection, members of Congress and the administration might want to ponder how many of these sorts of criminals, gang members, national security threats, and drug traffickers are not caught. Ultimately, DHS’ leadership needs to ask themselves if they are really helping “the children” by diverting more agents for babysitting rather than for patrolling, thereby ensuring that more child molesters, previously deported through the hard work of ICE agents, re-enter the country. More Evidence of Murder In Epstein Case: Video Footage Outside of Cell Mysteriously Unavailable; Prince Andrew Emails with Jeffrey Epstein Spark FBI Interest

By The New York Post. Footage from at least one camera in the hallway outside the cell where authorities say Jeffrey Epstein hanged himself is unusable by investigators probing his death — although other captures nearby are clearer, according to a new report.

Three people familiar with the investigation by the FBI and the Justice Department’s inspector general told the Washington Post that it wasn’t immediately known why some of the footage from outside the disgraced financier’s cell is too flawed to review — or what precisely can be seen in portions that are usable.

It’s unclear whether the flaw in the footage affected only a small segment of what was recorded, or whether it’s a persistent problem at the Metropolitan Correctional Center, where Epstein was housed, the paper reported.

Prince Andrew emails with Jeffrey Epstein likely to draw FBI interest: report

By Fox News. The FBI is likely to examine any emails Prince Andrew may have exchanged with Jeffrey Epstein as part of its ongoing probe into the financier’s alleged sex trafficking ring, according to a report.

A source said a “forensic” sweep of emails will tell if Epstein’s friends knew anything incriminating, the Daily Telegraph reported Monday.

A significant line in the probe is two desktop computers and an Apple device seized from Epstein’s private island in the U.S. Virgin Islands, according to the tabloid. . .

On Saturday, Andrew broke his silence on Epstein to deny ever witnessing any of the convicted sex offender’s criminal behavior during the “limited time” they spent together.

He said in a statement that their friendship began in 1999 and that it was a “mistake and an error” to see Epstein in 2010. The visit took place a year after Epstein finished serving time in prison for soliciting prostitution from a minor. Jeffrey Epstein’s Attorneys Make Extraordinary Request for Judicial Inquest Into Their Client’s Apparent Murder; Dozens of Jeffrey Epstein Accusers Speak out in Court

By Newsweek. Federal prosecutors on Tuesday took one of their final steps in winding down the sprawling criminal case against Jeffrey E. Epstein, the Manhattan financier and alleged sex trafficker who died by apparent suicide earlier this month.

Epstein’s defense attorneys, however, sought to prolong the case’s remaining proceedings, asking U.S. District Judge Richard M. Berman to use the court’s “inherent authority” to probe the death of their former client.

The defense also threw already rampant suspicion surrounding Epstein’s untimely death into further uncertainty when they alleged that they have evidence suggestive of an incident “far more consistent with assault” than suicide. . .

Defense counsel further alleged that the medical examiner who concluded that suicide was the final cause of death only saw nine minutes of footage from one security camera to help arrive at that determination.

Attorneys representing the government asked the judge to terminate the proceedings, saying that the current legal landscape leaves them little if any room to continue a case after the pre-trial death of a charged individual. Attorneys for Epstein asked Berman to formally investigate Epstein’s apparent suicide, though there are already several announced probes into the matter originating from the Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Dozens of Jeffrey Epstein Accusers Speak out in Court

By The New York Post. The hearing Tuesday to dismiss federal sex-trafficking charges against dead pedophile Jeffrey ­Epstein looked and sounded more like a trial, with 23 women — including more than a dozen new accusers — sharing their stories of abuse at Epstein’s hands.

“I was nothing more than a teenage prostitute. I was his slave,” wrote one Epstein victim, who was a 16-year-old virgin when she says Epstein raped her.

The woman’s letter was read in court by her lawyer, Gloria Allred. “He washed my entire body in the shower and said, ‘If you are not a virgin, I will kill you,’ ” she said. . .

“I am still mad, concerned and confused about how he committed suicide and escaped responsibility once again,” one woman said, referring to the wrist-slap plea deal he copped in Florida in 2008 that let him dodge federal charges — and continue preying on victims. Children as Young as 3 Could Soon Get Sex Change Advice From a Doctor via Skype

The United Kingdom’s National Health Service is considering a plan that would allow patients, including young children, to consult with a doctor about gender transition remotely via video conference services, according to the Daily Mail.

A clinic in the U.K. that evaluates patients for potential gender transition treatments has seen an increase in patient volume of more than 400 percent since 2013, resulting in a waiting list of about two years. More than 2,500 children were referred to the clinic just last year, including some 3- and 4-year olds.

In order to deal with the volume, the clinic is considering a plan for patients to be able to consult with a doctor using services such as Skype or Apple’s Facetime function, allowing doctors to diagnose and prescribe gender transition issues and treatments such as hormone therapy remotely. . .

The Gender Identity Development Service, run by an NHS trust, is advocating for the necessity of remote consultations for gender confusion issues.

“The Trust is working to minimize waiting times and make clinical support easier to access, including eliminating travel time for young people and their families, which will also allow us to offer appointments earlier and later in the day,” a spokesman said. “As with the rest of the NHS, innovations like telemedicine are an addition and will not mean the removal or inability to access face-to-face consultations.
