Leaked Transcripts Reveal How NY Times Leadership Plans to Craft Trump-Racism Narrative

New York Times executive editor Dean Baquet convened a full newsroom meeting on Monday to discuss recent concerns with the newspaper. Specifically, Baquet focused on the backlash directed at the Times over a recent headline that Democrats thought was too friendly toward President Donald Trump.

Transcripts of the meeting, which centered on the president’s alleged racism and reveal how the Times plans to craft its narrative about Trump moving forward, were later leaked to Slate and published on Thursday.

“Chapter 1 of the story of Donald Trump, not only for our newsroom but, frankly, for our readers, was: Did Donald Trump have untoward relationships with the Russians, and was there obstruction of justice?” Baquet said.

But after Robert Mueller’s investigation concluded that Trump’s campaign did not collude with Russia, Baquet claimed “the story changed,” forcing the Times to “regroup, and shift resources and emphasis to take on a different story.” . . .

“I think that we’ve got to change. I mean, the vision for coverage for the next two years is what I talked about earlier: How do we cover a guy who makes these kinds of remarks? How do we cover the world’s reaction to him? How do we do that while continuing to cover his policies? How do we cover America, that’s become so divided by Donald Trump?” Baquet explained. So Much for Being ‘Peaceful’: Antifa Attacks Reporters and Conservatives in Portland (Again)

Not quite seven weeks ago, conservative journalist Andy Ngo was attacked while covering an Antifa protest in Portland, Oregon. Mayor Tom Wheeler ordered police to stand down at the time and received backlash for doing so. The city prepared for the Proud Boys to hold a rally on Saturday, with Antifa showing up to counter protest. Wheeler made it clear that Portland is taking a “zero tolerance” policy during Saturday’s activities.

At one point, Antifa protestors had The Washington Examiner’s Julio Rosas surrounded. They wanted him to report on what was taking place from the other side of the street because he “wasn’t with” them.

Rosas attempted to explain that he was simply reporting on the events for his job but Antifa didn’t care. They thought he was “spying” on them.

Rashida Tlaib: Boycott Bill Maher for Opposing BDS

Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) has now turned her guns on HBO’s “Real Time” host Bill Maher for daring to criticize the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement as a hateful anti-Israel political sentiment with little or no goal beyond the destruction of the Jewish state.

“Maybe folks should boycott his show,” Tlaib tweeted, according to Deadline. “I am tired of folks discrediting a form of speech that is centered on equality and freedom. This is exactly how they tried to discredit & stop the boycott to stand up against the apartheid in S. Africa. It didn’t work then and it won’t now.”

On Friday, Maher pivoted his criticism away from Trump and conservatives and toward Tlaib and Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) for supporting the BDS movement. His attack came shortly after the pair were barred from entering Israel for having an agenda entirely in opposition to the country’s existence.

“It’s a bulls*** purity test, BDS is a bulls*** purity test by people who want to appear ‘woke’ but actually slept through history class,” Maher said. “It’s predicated on this notion — I think, it’s very shallow thinking — that the Jews in Israel are mostly white and Palestinians are browner, so they must be innocent and correct and the Jews must be wrong. As if the occupation came right out of the blue, that this ‘completely peaceful people’ found themselves occupied. Forget about the intifadas and the suicide bombings and the rockets and how many wars.” . . .

There are people who suggest that Epstein knew that the explosive exposé was coming out and it was only a matter of time before federal authorities would come for him. There are conspiracy theories that say that Epstein ordered that expensive cement mixer to his private island, now often known as “Pedophile Island” or “Orgy Island,” to hide incriminating evidence in the cement. Possibly dump these cement-covered secrets in the Caribbean Sea. . .

A dozen FBI agents raided Epstein’s Manhattan townhouse last week and seized “hundreds and perhaps thousands” of photographs of nude underage girls according to federal prosecutors.

Not Just a Cement Truck, Epstein Also Shipped Himself Shredder, Tile and Carpet Extractor When Things Started Getting Hot

JEFFREY EPSTEIN SHIPPED a shredder from the U.S. Virgin Islands to his Palm Beach home in July 2008, shortly after reaching a non-prosecution agreement with then-U.S. Attorney Alex Acosta, maritime records show. Then, in March of this year, shortly after a Florida federal judge invalidated that agreement, Epstein shipped a tile and carpet extractor from the Virgin Islands to his Manhattan townhouse, the records show. . .

A key challenge investigators faced when first targeting Epstein in the mid-2000s was an inability to obtain evidence through subpoena. A 2005 search of Epstein’s Palm Beach home came up empty in its quest for computers that investigators suspected contained critical evidence connected to his alleged sexual abuse of young girls.

In 2007, a federal grand jury subpoenaed the computers. That August, Acosta, who is now Donald Trump’s labor secretary, entered into plea agreement discussions with Epstein. Because of those talks, a motion to compel production of Epstein’s computers was delayed, according to the Miami Herald. Epstein held out, however, resisting the deal because it would require him to register as a sex offender. The FBI continued investigating and in March 2008, according to the Miami Herald, preparations were being made to take the case to a new federal grand jury.

That would prove unnecessary, as Epstein agreed to a deal with Acosta. Without notifying the 32 identified victims, the federal government reached a non-prosecution agreement with Epstein in exchange for his guilty plea in state court to a minor offense. Obama Warned Biden about Presidential Bid: ‘You Don’t Have to Do This, Joe’

Former President Barack Obama reportedly wasn’t particularly sold on the idea of Joe Biden, his vice president for eight years, mounting his own bid for the White House in 2020.

“You don’t have to do this, Joe, you really don’t,” Obama told Biden before the 76-year-old formally launched his campaign in April, according to the New York Times.

“Mr. Biden — who thinks he could have defeated Donald Trump four years ago — responded by telling Mr. Obama he could never forgive himself if he turned down a second shot at Mr. Trump,” the Times reports. . .

Biden famously failed to lock down Obama’s endorsement upon entering the race, though his former boss did issues a statement saying choosing the then-senator as his running mate in 2008 was “one of the best decisions he ever made” and still remain close friends.

Biden, the 2020 Democrat frontrunner among a crowded primary field, has seen his poll numbers after bruising clashes with Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) in the first presidential debate over his past remarks about bussing. Notably, former first lady Michelle Obama refused to defend Biden as the former vice president found himself in hot water for his position on busing and his recent praise of segregationists. A series of gaffes by the former vice president has also hurt his standing among voters, reportedly prompting his advisers to discuss possibly scaling back his public appearances to prevent more embarrassing moments. NYC Jail Staffers Not Cooperating with Epstein Investigation; ‘Madam Maxwell’ Spotted

By Fox News. Personnel at the New York City prison where accused sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein committed suicide last week have not been initially cooperative with investigators from the Department of Justice, a federal source told Fox News Friday.

Attorney General William Barr sent two senior DOJ officials to personally visit the Metropolitan Correctional Center and speak with staff from the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) in order to gather information on Epstein’s death after Barr said officials uncovered “serious irregularities” at the jail, a senior DOJ official told Fox News. The officials have been on site since Thursday and the FBI and the Justice Department’s inspector general are investigating conditions at the MCC.

BOP officials from various regional offices have also been sent to the Manhattan facility to lend their expertise and insight. In addition, a separate BOP “After Action Team” went to MCC earlier this week in an effort to examine what happened the night Epstein died. The use of the “After Action Team” is part of BOP protocol whenever a “significant event takes place at a prison. Jeffrey Epstein’s Alleged Madam, Ghislaine Maxwell, Photographed at California Burger Joint: Report

By Fox News. Jeffrey Epstein’s mysterious, alleged madam surfaced Thursday at a California In-N-Out Burger, where a photographer snapped her reading a spy novel while scarfing down a burger and fries.

Ghislaine Maxwell, 57, allegedly provided Epstein with underage sex slaves. Court documents allege Maxwell, who is the daughter of the late, disgraced publishing tycoon Robert Maxwell, also participated in threesomes with Epstein and underage girls, according to multiple women who have come forward in the case. . .

The elusive former associate of Epstein could face criminal prosecution, and is believed to have valuable information about Epstein’s illicit activities. Epstein was found dead in his prison cell early Saturday. Authorities said it appeared he committed suicide, but an autopsy has raised questions about his cause of death.

Maxwell was photographed sitting alone in the outside patio area of a Los Angeles In-N-Out Burger restaurant Thursday. She is seen reading an opened book with a burger and fries on the table in front of her, the Post reported. Poll: Half of Hispanic Americans Approve of Trump Following ICE Raids

After the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency raided multiple Mississippi food processing plants for hiring illegal alien workers, President Trump’s support among Hispanic voters has remained solid and a record total of black Americans now support him.

Last week, ICE agents conducted the largest workplace raid in more than a decade across seven food processing plants in Mississippi, netting the arrests of 680 illegal aliens. That same day, though, ICE officials said they released about 300 of the illegal workers back into the U.S. on “humanitarian grounds.” More than 200 of the illegal workers had prior criminal records.

The latest Zogby Analytics poll, conducted days after the highly-publicized ICE raids, finds that about 49 percent of Hispanic Americans approve of the job Trump is doing as president. Another 51 percent said they disapprove.

Meanwhile, Trump’s support among black Americans has surged. Nearly three-in-ten black Americans now say they support the job Trump is doing as president — the second consecutive poll showing over a quarter of black Americans support Trump. About seven-in-ten black Americans said they disapprove of Trump.

Since the raids, the food processing plants have been forced to hold job fairs in the area, potentially increasing wages and bettering working conditions to attract and compete for American workers rather than relying on an underclass of exploited illegal workers. One potential worker said the processing plant was offering $12 an hour, but he would like to negotiate a salary of $15 an hour. The ruling comes six days after Epstein was found unresponsive in his Manhattan jail cell.

He reportedly tied the bedsheet around his neck with the other end tied to the top bunk of the bed in the cell. He got on his knees and leaned down with enough force to break several bones in his neck.

Jeffrey Epstein Autopsy Results ‘Show’ He Hanged Himself in Suicide

By The New York Times. The New York City medical examiner said on Friday that Jeffrey Epstein’s death in a federal jail cell was a suicide, confirming he had hanged himself. . .

But the chief medical examiner in New York City, Dr. Barbara Sampson, ruled out foul play. She released a terse statement saying that, after an autopsy and a “careful review of all investigative information,” she had determined the cause of Mr. Epstein’s death was “hanging” and the manner was “suicide.”

Katie covered early Friday the fact that anti-semitic Democrat Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib’s dishonest PR stunt regarding her Israel trip, or as Rep. Tlaib would say ‘Palestine,’ was a complete set up from the beginning designed to make Israel look bad. “Yesterday after the Israeli government denied Congresswoman Ilhan Omar and Tlaib from entering the country due to their advocacy for the BDS movement, Tlaib was offered a humanitarian exception to visit her grandmother,” Katie wrote. It was revealed that Rep. Tlaib actually asked permission from the Israel government to visit her relatives and promised she would not speak about the BDS issues. But, after being granted permission, she refused to go because she claimed Israel was still somehow oppressing her with their restrictions. . .

“Omar and Tlaib weren’t denied entry to Israel because they are Muslim, they were denied entry because they are tied to terrorism, actively support the BDS movement and do not believe the country has the right to exist. It’s not complicated. It is simple. They won’t be visiting Israel for these reasons, but, they already knew that.”

Friday evening, it seems President Donald J. Trump would agree with Katie’s analysis.

‘Free’ College? Green New Deal? Socialist Health Care? Study Finds It’s Impossible to Pay for Them by Only Squeezing the Rich

Progressives have recently put forward a lot of high-priced policy proposals, but a new study released Wednesday finds that it’s “arithmetically impossible” to pay for the “progressive agenda” by only raising taxes on the wealthy.

The report, authored by David Burton, Heritage Foundation senior fellow in economic policy, ran the numbers on long list of popular progressive policy promises and found that it’s impossible to cover their total costs by taxing only people who make over $200,000 per year.

Burton took estimated costs from a list of proposals, including the Green New Deal proposed by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio Cortez, D-N.Y, government-backed health insurance supported by 2020 Democrats like Sen. Bernie Sanders, Vt., and taxpayer-funded college tuition proposed by Sanders, and came up with a total aggregate price tag of $48 to $92 trillion over 10 years.

Burton then added the lower cost estimate to the current projected baseline spending level for the next 10 years and found that implementing those four agenda items would put the U.S. somewhere between 3rd place to Finland and France in government spending (on the low end) and spending that would “dwarf” the levels of “any other developed country.”

Burton then looked to tax numbers and concluded that even if the government were to confiscate 100 percent of the incomes of everyone making over $200,000 annually while also confiscating all the income of all corporations, it would raise “at most” $34.6 trillion. That amount is “between only 37 percent and 72 percent of the cost of the progressive agenda,” depending on the cost estimate.

“Even using lower cost estimates, confiscating every dollar earned by every taxpayer with incomes of $200,000 or more would only pay for about half of the progressive agenda,” the report’s summary says.

“And that figure is based on the false assumption that people would continue to work, save, and invest when subject to a 100 percent flat tax,” Burton continues. “The reality is that progressive promises can only be funded by increasing taxes on the middle class from three to 10 times their current level or, for a limited time, by dramatic and unsustainable increases in federal borrowing.”

That all translates to astronomically higher taxes for hardworking families and/or astronomically higher debt for their children to deal with.

The Heritage findings run contrary to the widespread assumption that America’s fiscal woes could be addressed if we just put the screws to the wealthy for more revenue. That’s far from the case. In fact, if the government were to tax every American billionaire for everything they were worth, we’d have enough revenue to make about a 14 percent dent in the national debt or fully fund a 4.75 trillion federal budget for just under eight months.
