Trump’s Ambassador to Russia Is Resigning and Reportedly Looking at a Gubernatorial Run

President Donald Trump’s top representative to the Kremlin is stepping down this fall, according to a resignation letter sent to the president Tuesday morning.

As reported by the Salt Lake Tribune, Jon Huntsman sent a letter to the president on Tuesday in which he says that he plans to leave the job effective Oct. 3 and return home to the United States.

“American citizenship is a privilege and I believe the most basic responsibility in return is service to country,” Huntsman’s letter begins. “To that end, I am honored by the trust you have placed in me as the United States ambassador to Russia during this historically difficult period in bilateral relations.”

Voicing appreciation for the team he’s worked with, the ambassador adds that the Mission Russia team “is first-rate and every American would be proud of their work. Their efforts away from loved ones, in one of the world’s most forbidding environments, are nothing short of inspiring. They deserve our endless gratitude.”

“Yet,” he later explains to the president, “as I have shared with you and Secretary [Mike] Pompeo, our desire is to return to the United States after two years to reconnect with our growing family and responsibilities at home.”

He also says that he hopes that giving the White House also two months’ notice on his departure “will allow sufficient time for a successor to be nominated and confirmed.”

Huntsman is a former Utah governor who served as ambassador to China under the Obama administration. Before that, Huntsman served as deputy U.S. trade representative under George W. Bush and was the ambassador to Singapore under George H.W. Bush. Huntsman was confirmed to his current role in September 2017 by a unanimous vote of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee followed by a voice vote on the Senate floor.

The Salt Lake Tribune now says that Huntsman may make a move to return the Utah governor’s mansion “according to those close to him.”

Meanwhile, the Beehive State’s next race for governor in 2020 has already been shaping up. Lt. Gov. Spencer Cox has already announced a campaign and businessman Jeff Burningham is “exploring a run” according to a website run by “Jeff Burningham for Governor.” Retiring Republican Rep. Rob Bishop is also considering a run. (For more from the author of “Trump’s Ambassador to Russia Is Resigning and Reportedly Looking at a Gubernatorial Run” please click HERE)

Gun Control Gaining Republican Momentum After Texas and Ohio Shootings

The following is an excerpt from Blaze Media’s daily Capitol Hill Brief email newsletter:

In the aftermath of the weekend’s shootings, the push for gun control is getting stronger. During a formal address from the White House yesterday, President Donald Trump voiced his support for “red flag” gun confiscation laws, which are intended to strip gun rights away from people deemed to be threats to public safety. Congressional Democrats responded to that address by calling for the Senate to come back from recess to pass a background check bill that wouldn’t have done anythingto prevent the weekend’s shootings.

At the same time, Sens. Joe Manchin and Pat Toomey are teaming up to bring back a background check bill that failed in the Senate after the Sandy Hook massacre, and Lindsey Graham says he’s working on a “red flag” bill with anti-gun Democrat Richard Blumenthal. A Republican House member, Adam Kinzinger, also announced his support for “red flag” laws.

The problem with searching for a magical policy solution to mass shootings is that the numbers don’t support one. (For more from the author of “Gun Control Gaining Republican Momentum After Texas and Ohio Shootings” please click HERE)

Congress Authorized Overtime for Agents on ‘Diaper Patrol,’ but Not for Agents at the Border

The message being conveyed to Border Patrol agents is that their most important job is to care for lawbreakers and smugglers, not to patrol against the cartels and previously deported criminal aliens. The job of “diaper patrol” is being prioritized over the job of protecting Americans from national security concerns. Nowhere is this more evident than in the pay incentives given to agents.

Due to complaints of abuse in the overtime pay system among some agents, Congress passed the Border Patrol Agent Pay Reform Act (BPAPRA) in 2014. The law abolished standard overtime pay for Border Patrol, and in its place, agents were given three options for their 5-day work days. They could work standard 8-hour shifts and receive base pay only or they could work 9-hour shifts and receive 12.5 percent over base pay, or 25 percent over base pay if they opt for 10-hour shifts. Any time an agent works outside the scheduled shift, i.e. 10 hours, they are not paid for the work, but are given “comp time” instead.

Given the crisis of hundreds of thousands of migrants surrendering at the border while thousands of “runners” get away from them, there is a need for all hands-on deck. Yet, thanks to the supplemental bill passed by Congress in June, agents only receive overtime for working at the processing centers babysitting the illegal aliens, but not for actually patrolling the line.

“As it stands now, we are averaging between 9-15 agents actually on the line … less than 30 percent of our station,” said one line agent in the Rio Grande Valley who spoke with CR on background because he is not authorized to speak to the media. “Because of the recent influx, overtime has been authorized to address the problem. What problem? Oh, the ‘humanitarian challenge,’ not the open border problem. Each week, each shift at the station is given a certain amount of hours. The hours ‘first come, first serve’ and also based on seniority (Union). We can choose to work 2 hours of overtime per day or come in on our day off and work a full shift. The only stipulation is IT HAS TO BE FOR THE HUMANITARIAN CRISIS. i.e processing, record checks, sally port security, file creation, transportation, etc. IT CAN’T BE FOR BORDER SECURITY.”

How does this play out in the field?

“Say for example at the end of a shift you are involved in a “bailout” and illegals are running everywhere in the neighborhood … since this is your case you have to catch the illegals, get the vehicle towed to the station, do a vehicle packet, generate paperwork for the bailout, create a “case” for prosecution, etc. the list goes on. Well, by this time it is two hours after your shift ended and you finally get finished … guess what? you don’t qualify for overtime … you get comp time.

What’s the problem with comp time?

According to the agent I spoke to, “this comp time has to be prescheduled with the supervisors and in only extreme cases the agent is justified in unscheduled comp time. This hinders the work and leave a massive gap during shift change if agents are late to replace them or if they are working ‘traffic.’ If agents are incentivized to stay longer until they are relieved by the next shift, it will close the gaps. But without overtime, if they make a spontaneous decision to stay an extra hour until the next shift comes, they will not get comp time either. This is why most of them just leave and the cartels smugglers know this, which is why there are so many bad guys getting in between shift changes.”

On the other hand, thanks to the supplemental funding bill, agents who work an extra two hours at the processing center or who come in on their day off are paid overtime

What sort of message does this send about the priorities of the agency?

Another longer-serving veteran agent in the RGV told me that if overtime were approved for line work, agents would jump at the opportunity to do their core jobs. “Agents are dying to get out of those facilities and actually do what they were trained to do. Offering agents overtime only for humanitarian work but not for security work sends the wrong message to agents and makes it clear that Congress does not prioritize our key mission nor do members understand how many security problems are emanating from the border and the need for more manpower.”

I asked a CBP press official if he was concerned about the dichotomy between the humanitarian and security work in terms of overtime pay. He declined to go on the record, but noted that Congress only approved the funding for humanitarian work and that none of this was the decision of DHS. They simply utilized the funds that were given to them in the way they were earmarked. He also suggested that by putting in more hours at the processing center, it could potentially free up other agents to go to the line.

Both line agents I spoke to vigorously disputed that premise. “That’s complete BS, it never relieves another guy to hit the field,” bemoaned the more senior of the two Texas agents I spoke with. “Assignments are done ahead of time and are not spontaneous. If I send three agents out to do border security due to having three overtime processors, it doesn’t serve the purpose of overtime which is to handle the high volume of processing. Thus, all the extra work goes into the humanitarian work, not on the line. We must add or multiply our number of agents processing, not swap them out. If anything, the supplemental – by funding more humanitarian work and not border security – has placed even more mandates on agents to divert more manpower away from the line.”

The other agent who often does night shifts noted that he has not seen “any difference in terms of the number of agents in the field since passage of the supplemental. The entire purpose of that bill was for diaper patrol, not for Border Patrol.”

There is another budget bill that will pass Congress in September, but once thing is clear: If the border crisis does get addressed, it will all be about more funding for caring for illegal immigrants rather than for doing what the Border Patrol was created to do. Another Left-Wing Socialist Responsible for Mass Shooting, but MSM Continues Outrageous Lies

By Breitbart. The Dayton Daily News reported Monday evening that the gunman who carried out a mass shooting early Sunday morning “definitely leaned to the left” politically and had talked to friends recently about shooting up local bars.

On Sunday evening, Breitbart News reported that Twitter had suspended an account reportedly linked to the shooter. The account had tweeted in support of socialism, in favor of Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), against President Donald Trump, and against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). . .

Until now, the mainstream media have taken no interest in the Ohio shooter’s views, preferring instead to focus on the white supremacist views of the gunman who attacked a Walmart in El Paso, Texas, the day before, killing 22 and wounding dozens more.

It is still unclear what connection, if any, the Ohio shooter’s left-wing political views had to the shooting, though El-Fakir speculated to the Dayton Daily News that the shooter may have bought body armor because he wanted to show how easy it was for anyone to obtain tactical weapons. Friend to Police: Dayton Killer Discussed Shooting up UD Bar

By Dayton Daily News. . .Friends of the Dayton Oregon District shooter cut ties with him earlier this year because he’d unexpectedly brandish guns and once talked about shooting up Timothy’s, a popular bar among University of Dayton students, a former friend told the Dayton Daily News. . .

El-Fakir told the Dayton Daily News he relayed that story to Dayton police Sunday afternoon. El-Fakir said he knew Betts from Bellbrook High School, where they graduated together. El-Fakir attended the University of Dayton and graduated this year. Betts enrolled in Sinclair Community College a few years after Bellbrook, something Sinclair officials said is normal among their students. . .

El-Fakir, who said he’s personally pro-2nd Amendment, described Betts as “definitely not a right-leaning person. His political views definitely leaned to the left. And believe it or not, he was actually pro-gun control. He was actually anti-2nd Amendment.”

“I don’t know if this is the motive that made him snap,” El-Fakir said, “(but I think) he donned himself with that ballistic vest just to show people how easy it was to arm themselves. It’s pure speculation.”

“He never once spit out a conservative opinion on gun control,” El-Fakir said. (Read more from “Friend to Police: Dayton Killer Discussed Shooting up UD Bar” HERE)

California Sued over Law Blocking Trump from Ballot

Four voters in California, along with the conservative transparency group Judicial Watch, announced Monday they have filed a federal lawsuit against the left-wing state, alleging its new law aimed at strong-arming President Trump into releasing his income tax returns is patently unconstitutional.

Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom signed the law known as the “Presidential Tax Transparency and Accountability Act” last week. It would require Trump and other presidential primary candidates to file their tax returns for the most recent five years to the California secretary of state by November 26 or be excluded from the March 3, 2020 presidential primary ballot.

The measure sailed through the state’s Democratic-led legislature. Former California Gov. Jerry Brown had vetoed a similar version of the law last year, noting that it “may not be constitutional” and sets a “slippery slope precedent” that could lead the state to demand all kinds of documents from candidates.

“Today we require tax returns, but what would be next?” Brown asked. “Five years of health records? A certified birth certificate? High school report cards? And will these requirements vary depending on which political party is in power.” . . .

The Constitution requires only three things of presidents: They have to be a natural-born U.S. citizen; must be at least 35 and must have lived in the country for at least 14 years. (Although the precise legal meaning of the term “natural-born U.S. citizen” is debated, it generally is taken to apply when someone is either born in the U.S. or born abroad to a U.S. citizen.) GOP Lawmaker Accuses Republicans of ‘Enabling White Supremacy’ by Refusing to Condemn Trump

A Republican state lawmaker from Nebraska is gaining attention for calling out the GOP for “enabling white supremacy in our country” after a mass murderer with racist motivations killed 20 people and injured several others in El Paso, Texas.

State Sen. John McCollister of Omaha accused President Trump of stoking “racist fears in his base,” in a Twitter thread demanding Republicans speak out against white nationalism and condemn President Trump.

In an interview with the Omaha World-Herald, McCollister elaborated on his Twitter thread, attacking Nebraska’s GOP congressional delegation for neglecting to voice a full condemnation of the president.

“I’d like to see some moral outrage from some of our Republican officeholders,” McCollister said. “The silence is deafening.”

This is asinine. What “racist and immoral activity” is “enabling white supremacy” in the Republican Party? Refusing to join the Left in screaming “Trump is racist!” every time the president says something rude? The remarks McCollister cites about “sh*tholes” or the “go back” comments do not show that President Trump believes white people are racially superior to people with darker skin. They’re impolite, they’re not traditionally presidential, but they’re not “enabling white supremacy.”

Which Trump comments qualify as stoking “racist fears” in his base? Ask the Left, and they’ll say anyone who uses the phrase “illegal immigrant” should be condemned. Is President Trump stoking fear by frequently making statements about the illegal immigration issue or the border crisis? Should Republicans stop talking about these issues because they enable “white supremacy,” since white supremacists don’t like migrants from south of the border?

What does “enabling white supremacy” even mean? Would white supremacy cease to exist if Trump never said or tweeted anything controversial? How exactly would condemning Trump disable white supremacy? Say Republicans did condemn the president; say they even impeached him. If Trump were removed from office or if he loses the 2020 election, would racists in America stop being racists? Obviously not.

And what evidence of “white supremacy” is there in the GOP anyway? McCollister only mentions Trump. Is he implying that the El Paso murderer is somehow related to the Republican Party or inspired by his rhetoric? There’s no evidence that the murderer was a Republican or a Democrat. In his manifesto, the murderer attacked Democrats and Republicans. He ranted about environmental degradation caused by climate change in addition to illegal immigration. You might just as soon call him an eco-terrorist as a white supremacist terrorist, if you wanted to play stupid word games with acts of evil to score political points.

If McCollister knows about white supremacists in the Republican Party, he should out them and show what they’ve done to advance that racist ideology. If he’s going to accuse Republicans of being “complicit” with racism, he needs to do more than complain that the GOP won’t join in with Democrats and the media in hating the president.

President Trump, speaking for himself, condemned racism and white supremacy Monday in a speech on the weekend’s mass shootings. “Our nation is overcome with shock, horror and sorrow,” Trump said. “We are outraged and sickened by this monstrous evil.”

“In one voice, our nation must condemn racism, bigotry and white supremacy,” Trump said. “These sinister ideologies must be defeated. Hatred has no place in America.”

Dozens of people are dead or injured after two acts of heinous evil committed by mass murderers over the weekend. Making Donald Trump the problem today, and attacking other Republicans for refusing to join in, is deplorable. Feds Investigating AOC’s Chief of Staff Who Suddenly Resigned, Report Says. Here’s Why.

By The Blaze. The controversial chief of staff for Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), who suddenly resigned Friday, is under federal investigation, a new report reveals.

According to the New York Post, the Federal Election Commission is investigating Saikat Chakrabarti for possible campaign finance violations, potentially shedding new light on his sudden departure from Ocasio-Cortez’s office.

The investigation comes after government watchdog group National Legal and Policy Center filed complaints with the FEC in March, alleging Chakrabarti created shell companies to circumvent strict federal guidelines governing PAC finances and disclosure requirements. . .

According to the Post, the investigation includes probing the motive behind salary rules implemented by Ocasio-Cortez’s office. In March, she announced no staff member working in her office would make less than $52,000 or more than $80,000.

By capping Chakrabarti’s salary at $80,000 — despite most congressional chiefs of staff earning more than $140,000 per year — it would have allowed Chakrabarti to avoid requirements mandating he reveal outside income, which are triggered for staff members earning more than $126,000. El Paso Killer is an Environmental Extremist; Made Chilling Admission to Police, Charged With Capital Murder

By Natasha Lennard. An entire paragraph of the [El Paso killer’s] manifesto is dedicated to environmental degradation and Malthusian claims about the need to “get rid of enough people” to protect ever dwindling resources. The author cites the Christchurch shooter’s lengthy manifesto, titled “The Great Replacement,” as an inspiration, reiterating the paranoid fears of demographic shift and white decline. The Christchurch shooter self-identified as an “eco-fascist,” writing, “there is no nationalism without environmentalism.”

Against the perilous climate change denialism typical of U.S. conservatives, environmental decimation is broadly seen as a liberal and left concern. . .

[The El Paso killer’s manifesto continued,] “The American lifestyle affords our citizens an incredible quality of life. However, our lifestyle is destroying the environment of our country,” the El Paso manifesto notes, adding, “Everything I have seen and heard in my short life has led me to believe that the average American isn’t willing to change their lifestyle, even if the changes only cause a slight inconvenience. … So the next logical step is to decrease the number of people in America using resources.” Read more about the man charged with capital murder from this left-wing publication HERE)

By The Blaze. The man accused of killing 20 people at an El Paso Walmart was officially booked into the El Paso jail on capital murder charges early Sunday morning, records show. . .

FBI Special Agent in Charge Emerson Bowie told KTSM that “enhanced charges” are likely given the probability the killer was a white nationalist inspired by hatred for Hispanic people. . .

A manifesto posted online, which has been attributed to the killer but not yet confirmed by authorities as authentic, said the attack was “a response to the Hispanic invasion of Texas.”

Indeed, the killer made a similar chilling admission to police.

According to ABC News, citing law enforcement officials, the killer told authorities his goal was to “shoot as many Mexicans as possible.” (Read more from “El Paso Killer Booked on Capital Murder Charges, but Makes Chilling Admission to Police” HERE)

Mass Shooting That Killed 20 in El Paso Investigated as ‘Domestic Terrorism’: Officials

By ABC News. Twenty people were killed and dozens more injured on Saturday morning in a massacre at an El Paso, Texas, Walmart that was packed with back-to-school shoppers, making it one of the deadliest mass shootings in U.S. history, officials said. . .

The suspect was identified by authorities as Patrick Crusius, 21, of Allen, Texas. He is being held on a charge of capital murder, court records show.

John Bash, the U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Texas, said Sunday that federal authorities are investigating the incident as an act of “domestic terrorism,” meaning the suspect was allegedly intent on “coercing and intimidating a civilian population.” . . .

In El Paso, the suspect Crusius was “taken into custody without incident” and without any law enforcement officers firing their weapons, according to El Paso Police Department Sgt. Robert Gomez. He later told investigators he wanted to shoot as many Mexicans as possible, two law enforcement officials told ABC News.

“He was forthcoming with information. He basically didn’t hold anything back,” El Paso Police Chief Greg Allen said during Sunday’s news conference, declining to comment on specifics of what the alleged gunman told investigators. Trump Wants to Pull All U.S. Troops out of Afghanistan by the 2020 Election

NBC News is reporting that Donald Trump has told White House aides that he wants to pull all U.S. troops out of Afghanistan by the 2020 election.

Current negotiations with the Taliban may make that possible. The two sides appear to be inching closer to a political deal that would include a total withdrawal of all U.S. forces.

But the NBC report alludes to some serious friction between the State Department and the Pentagon over the timing of the withdrawal. “It’s tense,” said one former official briefed on the debate:

Last December Trump threatened not only to immediately withdraw all troops from Afghanistan but also to shut down the U.S. embassy in Kabul, complaining to aides that it is too large and expensive, according to officials. The president’s threat to close the U.S. embassy — which has not been previously reported — so alarmed administration and military officials that they quickly offered him a plan to move up the timing of efforts to scale back the size of the embassy staff, officials said. . .

But Trump argued that without a military presence U.S. embassy staff could be in danger, so it should be closed, the officials said. He also said it was time for the U.S. to get out of the war there otherwise it could bankrupt the U.S. like it did Russia in the 1980s, the two former defense officials said.

Twitter Suspends Account Allegedly Linked to ‘Leftist’ Ohio Shooter

By Breitbart. Twitter suspended an account Sunday evening allegedly linked to the gunman who killed nine and wounded dozens outside a Dayton, Ohio, bar early Sunday morning, after several reports identified the account and noted its left-wing political orientation.

The user, “@iamthespookster,” identified as a “leftist,” according to the Twitter profile. The suspended account tweeted in support of socialism, against the election of President Donald Trump, and in favor of Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) for president in 2020.

Heavy.com reported: “Connor Betts, the Dayton, Ohio mass shooter, was a self-described ‘leftist,’ who wrote that he would happily vote for Democrat Elizabeth Warren, praised Satan, was upset about the 2016 presidential election results, and added, ‘I want socialism, and i’ll not wait for the idiots to finally come round to understanding.’”

The Washington Times published a similar report, and Daily Wire reporter Ryan Saavedra tweeted what he said were screenshots of retweets from the account:

Dayton Police Killed Shooter Within 30 Seconds of First Shot

By NPR. It took about 30 seconds to bring down the gunman who killed nine people and injured 27 others in a crowded section of downtown Dayton, Ohio, early on Sunday morning — just hours after another scene of violence ravaged the Texas city of El Paso.

But figuring out why the alleged shooter, Connor Betts, who lived with his family in a sleepy suburban Midwestern community, descended on scores of innocent people — including his younger sister and a friend — is a question that will take much longer to solve, said Dayton Police Chief Richard Biehl in a press conference Sunday afternoon.

What officials have offered is a timeline of the deadly events that ended in dozens of lives upended almost instantly. On duty officers first heard shots at 1:05 a.m. as they patrolled what is normally a safe and lively part of the city just before local bars shut down. Within approximately 20 seconds, six officers were running toward the hail of bullets pouring from the shooter’s .223-caliber high capacity rifle with 100-round drum magazines.

“They engaged a suspect who was actively firing and attempting to enter a crowded liquor establishment,” Biehl said.

Ten seconds later, the shooter, who was wearing a mask, a bulletproof vest and hearing protection, was dead. Lying beside the body was a shotgun that had not been discharged (Read more from “Dayton Police Killed Shooter Within 30 Seconds of First Shot” HERE)
