What ‘Plummet’? Border Numbers Still Well Above Level of ‘System-Wide Emergency’

Just how accustomed have we become to the new normal of open borders? In March, when 92,840 people were apprehended between ports of entry at the border, including 53,208 family unit members, Customs and Border Protection (CBP) referred to it as a “system-wide emergency.” Now, after preliminary data show the numbers are off the peak of May, back “down” to 95,500 total apprehensions and 57,300 family unit members, it is reported as a major breakthrough.

Has the Overton window shifted so far to the Left on this issue that the media will successfully acculturate us to tolerate this level of illegal immigration, especially the shutdown of our Border Patrol, caring for immigrants rather than protecting Americans, as the new normal?

While it is true that the numbers are down 28 percent from the unfathomable peak of the May numbers, when over 132,000 were apprehended between ports of entry, the June numbers still sit at roughly the April levels, which themselves reflected a high-water mark, with month-over-month increases for a year and a half.

At this point, it’s not yet clear whether May represented a new baseline or just an aberration with a number of huge groups coming in at once. Now, with the hotter weather, when numbers usually drop anyway, maintaining the level of illegal immigration from March/April still represents a 44 percent increase over the levels we were seeing in February, when the president declared a national emergency.

Thus, the June border numbers, without a further trajectory change, are more akin to a slight market correction the day after the stock market reaches its highest level, but still well into uncharted waters.

While it is true that some actions taken by the Mexican government might have dissuaded more migrants from crossing into Mexico since President Trump secured an agreement with President Lopez Obrador in early June, it is unlikely that the Mexican government has the desire or the ability to permanently bend the trajectory until we change the policies of executive and judicial amnesty from our side of the border. The bottom line is that the cartels make too much money off human smuggling and will not allow Mexico’s national guard to take a bite out of that revenue without a massive civil war.

Yesterday, the New York-based Spanish language publication “El Diario” posted a video of alleged members of Cártel del Noreste (CDN) attacking national guard soldiers in Tamaulipas, one of the key smuggling areas. This comes a week after a cartel in the southern border province of Tabasco set up a blockade of burning cars in a highway, according to Borderland Beat, with the following warning: “Welcome #GuardiaNacional(.) We know that you’re coming with everything but let’s see how many come out of here alive, align yourselves or we’ll do it for you.” Tabasco shares a border with Guatemala, where President Lopez Obrador promised to deploy national guardsmen to stop the Central American migration.

It’s clear that without the Trump administration designating the cartels as terrorists under our laws and using the military more aggressively on our side of the border to counter their smuggling activities, we will never return to even “Obama levels” of illegal immigration. It remains stupefying why this administration has not yet done that, why it has not fired acting Secretary Kevin McAleenan, and why it has not issued an 1182 shutoff at the border.

According to a new Harvard/Harris poll, 42 percent of voters rank immigration as the most important issue facing the country today, more than any other issue. More importantly, voters were asked directly whether they support the idea of turning back people with questionable asylum claims, and 62 percent said they should “immediately” be turned back. That includes 64 percent of independent voters, 62 percent of self-described moderates, and even 44 percent of people who voted for Hillary Clinton in 2016.

The president has nothing to lose and everything to gain by finally shutting off all migration of those without proper documentation at our border and turning them back the same way we did with the Haitians in the early 1990s. Not only would it protect Americans from crime, drugs, gangs, diseases, and public charge, it would end all the backlash over the care for the illegal aliens themselves. There is no good way to manage catch-and-release even from a humanitarian perspective when the numbers are this high.

When the president announced his bid for the highest office in the land on June 16, 2015, he referred to America as a “dumping ground” for illegal aliens. At that time, there were roughly 38,000 apprehensions a month. In July 2014, amidst the original crisis of Central American migration, Trump tweeted, “The immigration crisis is a horrible mess made worse by an incompetent president who doesn’t have a clue. We need new leadership FAST!”

If things have gotten so bad that we now tout “only 95,000” apprehensions as success, then this entire endeavor has truly been a failure. We need real leadership, fast, and that begins with the president getting new legal advice in the White House. (For more from the author of “What ‘Plummet’? Eric Swalwell’s Anti-Gun, Gaffe-Prone Presidential Bid to Come to a Close

Eric Swalwell, the Democratic House member who made gun control a key focus of his 2020 presidential camapaign, will end his bid for the Oval Office, reports say.

The Los Angeles Times reported Monday morning that Swalwell was expected to end his presidential bid and instead focus his energy on getting re-elected to his Bay Area congressional seat in California. “A Capitol Hill source with knowledge” of Swalwell’s plans confirmed the story to the Times.

The candidate is expected to confirm these reports at a press conference Monday afternoon.

Speculation about a dropout started circling over the long holiday weekend after Swalwell canceled Fourth of July events in New Hampshire, a key primary election state. The candidate hasn’t gotten even one percent in any DNC-approved polls for the last month.

Swalwell would be the first major dropout from the incredibly crowded Democratic presidential field, though not the first overall. Long-shot candidate and West Virginia state lawmaker Richard Ojeda ended his bid for the White House back in January, saying that he didn’t “want to see people send money to a campaign that’s probably not going to get off the ground.”

A longtime proponent of gun control policies — and the guy who tweeted about nuking gun owners — Eric Swalwell made anti-gun animus a major part of his presidential campaign. Last month, he put forward a comprehensive gun control plan that included a national firearms registry, a federal ban on magazines that hold over 10 rounds, background checks on all ammunition purchases, a federal ban on armed schoolteachers, and a ban on online ammo sales.

Swalwell’s anti-gun crusade also backfired on him in a very visible way a few weeks ago when he scheduled a protest outside NRA headquarters in Northern Virginia and only a handful of people showed up for it. “No wonder he is polling at 0%,” the NRA joked in response.

The Swalwell campaign was also hindered by its candidate’s gaffe-prone nature. The Democrat recently took a lot of heat for a comment implying that all Hispanics are illegal immigrants. He complained that the word “woman” isn’t in the Constitution, overlooking the fact that “man” isn’t either. He was accused of sexism after refusing to debate NRA spokeswoman Dana Loesch on guns.

Swalwell’s departure from the 2020 picture would still leave around two dozen candidates to vie for the Democratic party’s nomination. (For more from the author of “Eric Swalwell’s Anti-Gun, Gaffe-Prone Presidential Bid to Come to a Close” please click HERE)

Poll: Majority of Americans Want MASS DEPORTATIONS of Illegal Aliens

A majority of Americans want mass deportations of illegal aliens if Congress fails to reach a deal this week that closes loopholes in the country’s asylum system that allow mass flows of foreign nationals to pour through the U.S.-Mexico border.

The latest Harvard/Harris poll finds that 51 percent of American voters say they support mass deportations of the 11 million to 22 million illegal aliens living in the U.S. should Congress fail to reach a deal that closes loopholes in the asylum system.

More than 8-in-10 Republican voters, as well as more than 5-in-10 swing voters, said President Trump should carry out mass deportations of illegal aliens following Congressional inaction. Nearly 9-in-10 Trump supporters said the same.

Working and middle class Americans, those earning $75,000 a year or less, support mass deportations of illegal aliens if Congress fails to act by a majority of 53 percent. A majority of Americans 35 to 49-years-old also support mass deportations following inaction from Congress. . .

The poll comes as Trump delayed a nationwide plan to mass deport thousands of illegal aliens who have final orders for removal. Former acting Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Director Thomas Homan accused acting Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Kevin McAleenan of leaking the plans to mass deport illegal aliens in order to halt the operation. Judge: No Death Penalty for Illegal Alien Accused of Horrific Murder

An illegal alien gang member accused of murdering 21-year-old Grant Ronnebeck in January 2015 has been deemed ineligible for the death penalty due to his “intellectual disability.” . . .

[Judge] Kemp said that Altamirano only has a fifth-grade education and was unable to obtain special education because he grew up in rural Mexico. Last year, Kemp ruled that prosecutors in the case would not be allowed to mention that Altamirano is an illegal alien who has been living in the U.S. for more than 20 years.

A spokesperson for the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office told the Associated Press that prosecutors “are reviewing the analysis and the record to assess next steps” in whether or not they plan to appeal Kemp’s decision that rules out the death penalty for Altamirano.

On January 22, 2015, Altamirano allegedly entered a QuickTrip convenience store in Mesa, Arizona, where Grant Ronnebeck worked as a store clerk and allegedly shot the young man to death after demanding a pack of cigarettes, Breitbart News reported at the time.

After shooting and killing Ronnebeck, prosecutors say Altamirano stepped over the body of the young man to grab a couple more packs of cigarettes before fleeing the scene. Following the alleged murder, the illegal alien sent police on a high-speed chase and was eventually arrested and taken into custody. By Breitbart. At least 66 people were shot, five fatally, over July Fourth weekend in gun-controlled Chicago.

The Chicago Sun-Times reports that a woman was killed “before dawn” July 4, 2019, on West Wilcox Street. “Another man was killed and three others were wounded in Humboldt Park on the West Side” during an 11:30 am drive-by shooting on July 4.

A 37-year-old man named Oliver Booth was shot and killed around 2:47 am Friday. Minutes later, at roughly 2:55 am, 22-year-old Akeelah D. Addison was shot in the head and killed “in the 4200 block of South Wells Street in Fuller Park.” . . .

Three other individuals were shot and wounded around 9:10 pm Saturday in the South Side’s Bronzeville neighborhood. The shooting followed an argument in which a 33-year-old man and two women, “ages 46 and 30, got into an altercation with two men in the 4600 block of South Martin Luther King Drive.” One of the two men allegedly pulled out a gun and opened fire (Read more from “Gun-Controlled Chicago: At Least 66 Shot, 5 Killed, over July 4th Weekend” HERE)

Inspector General Reaches ‘Breakthrough’ with Key Witness in FISA Abuse Probe

Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz reportedly has reached a “breakthrough” in the government’s investigation into alleged FISA abuse against the Trump campaign as at least one witness has started to cooperate in the investigation.

Fox News reported that, according to sources, “at least one witness outside the Justice Department and FBI started cooperating” at “the 11th hour” in the investigation.

“While the investigative phase of the inspector general’s long-running probe is said to be complete, the sources said recent developments required some witnesses to be reinterviewed,” Fox News added. “And while Barr testified that he expected the report into alleged Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) abuse to be ready in May or last month, multiple sources said the timeline has slipped.”

Earlier this year, Attorney General William Barr appointed U.S. Attorney John Durham to investigate “whether the government’s methods to collect intelligence relating to the Trump campaign were lawful and appropriate,” the AP reported.

The Hill reported in May that a senior State Department official knew that the anti-Trump dossier compiled by former British spy Christopher Steele, which was paid for by the DNC and Clinton campaign, “was political and facing an Election Day deadline.” (Read more from “Inspector General Reaches ‘Breakthrough’ with Key Witness in FISA Abuse Probe” HERE)

Trump-Hater Amash Might Run for President

Rep. Justin Amash took to the Sunday morning political programs to defend his July 4 editorial announcing his departure from the Republican Party — and suggested he may end up running for president.

Amash appeared first on CNN’s “State of the Union” to announced that he’s mulling over the possibility of running as a third party candidate for president. Amash is libertarian, but says he would be open to launching a bid as an Independent.

“I still wouldn’t rule anything like that out, I believe I have to use my skills, my public influence, where it serves the country best,” Amash said. “And I believe I have to defend the Constitution in whichever way that works best.”

When he runs to retain his Congressional seat in November, Amash will run as an Independent instead of as a Republican, a decision he announced in a widely touted op-ed published on July 4 — a declaration of independence, so to speak, from the GOP. In the essay, Amash says he isn’t blaming a single entity for his decision and did not name President Donald Trump, though Amash is, so far, the only Republican member of Congress to join the campaign to begin impeachment proceedings.

“I’ve had concerns with the Republican Party for several years,” Amash wrote. “I’ve had concerns with the party system generally. When I first got to Congress I thought I could change things from the inside, but as I’ve spent time there I’ve seen that not only me, I don’t think there is anyone in there who can change the system.” (Read more from “Trump-Hater Amash Might Run for President” HERE)

State Moves to Allow Illegal Aliens to Hold Party Leadership Positions

CNS News reports that Democratic lawmakers in California have introduced a bill to allow illegal aliens and non-citizens eligible for leadership positions within state political parties. . .

Supporters say that the proposed legislation is about showing welcoming support for all immigrant groups. “We need to continue to send a very, very loud message that we are … going to embrace and uplift and support all American immigrant neighbors,” said Sen. Scott Weiner (D-San Francisco), who introduced the bill.

“As our immigrant communities face vicious attacks from this President and his administration, California must embrace, lift up, and empower immigrant voices and leaders. Immigrants contribute to our economy, culture, and civic life. They’re already leaders in our communities and should have a seat at the table. The Democratic Party will continue to lead as the party that embraces all communities, and this legislative fix will help keep us on track,” he added. GOP Senator to Ocasio-Cortez on Border Crisis Claims: The Voices in Your Head Are Not Real

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) is a twister. She’s loud, destructive, and forms during intense storms of political theater. When she touches down, the damage can be devastating. She’s been on a roll trying to make fascist America into a real-life thing. It’s not. She compared the detention centers at our southern border to Nazi concentration camps. Now, she says that Border Patrol agents were threatening to her, but most egregiously allegedly told detained illegals to drink from toilets during a tour of some of these facilities this week. That didn’t happen. Please—this allegation was suspect from the get-go. First, there are sinks attached to the top of the toilets at these facilities. And yet, no one has really challenged her on it. Yes, some reporters asked her if she actually saw people drinking from toilets; she didn’t answer that question. A group of Hispanic pastors took a tour and found that the conditions were not as advertised by Democrats. One Republican Senator, John Kennedy of Louisiana, has been quite blunt and straight forward over the allegations AOC has lobbed at the Border Patrol: the voices in your head are not real (via The Hill):

Sen. John Kennedy (R-La.) took aim at Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) on Wednesday over her remarks comparing the Trump administration’s migrant detention centers to concentration camps.

In an interview, Kennedy accused Ocasio-Cortez of voting against funding for humanitarian aid efforts at the border, a vote the New York congresswoman made because the funding was being coupled with further resources for the expansion of detention facilities to accommodate more migrants.

“Let me be frank. Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez — someone needs to tell her that the voices in her head are not real,” Kennedy said Tuesday during an interview with local news station KSLA News 12. “She says that the men and women of our Border Patrol and our authorities are intentionally running concentration camps on the southern border.”

Trump Presidency Is the Longest Economic Expansion in U.S. History

The news release by the U.S. Department of Labor today was important not only because it showed an improving job market, but also because it confirmed that the U.S. has officially entered the longest recorded economic expansion in U.S. history.

The U.S. economy made significant gains in June as employment increased by 224,000 and the unemployment rate remained largely unchanged at 3.7 percent.

These payroll growth numbers have been the best gain since January and ran contrary to worries that both the employment picture and overall growth picture were beginning to worsen. Economists surveyed by The Wall Street Journal originally expected the economy to only add 165,000 jobs in June. . .

The Financial Times elaborates: “The post-crisis US economic expansion this week became the longest uninterrupted stretch of growth in modern American history.” . . .

Including today’s June nonfarm payroll employment numbers, President Trump has created roughly 5.6 million jobs since he first took office in January 20, 2017. (Read more from “Trump Presidency Is the Longest Economic Expansion in U.S. History” HERE)
