Obama Judge Upholds Dem Subpoena for Trump Financial Records

By Politico. A federal judge on Monday upheld a congressional subpoena seeking President Donald Trump’s financial records from an accounting firm, arguing that Congress is well within its rights to investigate potential illegal behavior by a president — even without launching a formal impeachment inquiry.

U.S. District Court Judge Amit Mehta’s ruling delivers a striking blow to the president’s efforts to resist Democratic investigations, and is certain to give Democrats further legal basis to investigate Trump, his finances, and his presidential campaign.

In addition to upholding the House Oversight and Reform Committee’s subpoena to accounting firm Mazars USA for eight years of Trump’s financial records, Mehta took the extra step of denying the president’s request for a stay pending appeal. Trump Lashes out After Report Bank Found Suspicious Transactions

By Politico. President Donald Trump lashed out at The New York Times on Monday, disputing the paper’s reporting on his relationship with Deutsche Bank and launching into a broader criticism of the news media.

The president appeared to be responding to a Times report that anti-money laundering experts at the German bank noticed suspicious activity in accounts belonging to Trump and his son-in-law, Jared Kushner, in 2016 and 2017. According to the Times, bank executives blocked employees from reporting the suspect transactions to the U.S. Treasury, and one former employee says she was fired for raising concerns about the bank’s scrutiny of certain clients. . .

“The Failing New York Times (it will pass away when I leave office in 6 years), and others of the Fake News Media, keep writing phony stories about how I didn’t use many banks because they didn’t want to do business with me,” Trump wrote, kicking off a flurry of posts. “WRONG! It is because I didn’t need money. Very old fashioned, but true. When you don’t need or want money, you don’t need or want banks. Banks have always been available to me, they want to make money.” (Read more from “Trump Lashes out After Report Bank Found Suspicious Transactions” HERE)

Gorsuch Sides with Liberal Justices in Hunting Case

By Townhall. Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch broke with conservatives and sided with the liberal wing of the Court on Monday.

The case, Herrera v. Wyoming, called into question a federal treaty from 1868 that allowed members of the Crow Tribe of Indians to hunt on “unoccupied lands of the United States” when Wyoming was admitted to the Union. Clayvin Herrera is a tribal member who hunted in the Bighorn National Forest and was charged for hunting during the off season. The Supreme Court had to decide if the treaty was still in effect or were nullified when Wyoming became a state in 1890. (Read more from “Gorsuch Sides with Liberal Justices in Hunting Case” HERE)

Gorsuch Breaks with Conservative Justices, Delivering Win to Native American Hunter

By Fox News. One of President Trump’s nominees sided Monday with the liberal wing of the Supreme Court for the second time in two weeks, as Justice Neil Gorsuch joined a narrow majority in support of a Native American man convicted for hunting in a national forest. . .

The opinion by Justice Sonia Sotomayor – and joined by Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Elena Kagan, Stephen Breyer, and Gorsuch – ruled that the treaty indeed still applies, and that Crow member Clayvin Herrera was improperly convicted of off-season hunting in Bighorn National Forest in 2014.

The court’s 5-4 ruling, which vacated the decision from the state appellate court, is based on the 1999 decision in Minnesota v. Mille Lacs Band of Chippewa Indians. In that case, the Supreme Court said that a territory gaining statehood is not enough “to extinguish Indian treaty rights to hunt, fish, and gather on land within state boundaries.” The court went further in that case, stating that Congress “must clearly express” an intention to end a treaty with a Native American tribe in order for the treaty’s rights to expire.

By siding with the traditionally liberal justices, Gorsuch gave them a 5-4 majority in the case.

The opinion came exactly one week after Trump’s other nominee, Justice Brett Kavanaugh, sided with liberals in a 5-4 decision that he wrote, ruling that Apple could be sued by iPhone owners over high prices in their App Store. Here’s Where 2020 Democrat Presidential Candidates Stand on Late-Term Abortion

A recent analysis from Politico specifically stated that no 2020 Democratic presidential candidates have come out against “late-term” abortions and that most of the candidates support no restrictions — which means they support allowing abortions all the way up until the moment of birth — even though they may try to avoid the issue by being too vague. . .

Here’s where all the 2020 Democratic presidential candidates stand on the issue of abortion:

Bill de Blasio: De Blasio slammed the Alabama pro-life bill as “vile and illegal.” De Blasio explicitly signaled support for late-term abortions earlier this year when he said that he “applaud[ed]” New York’s new law that effectively allows abortion up until the moment of birth.

Cory Booker: Booker said at a town hall: “I support the law of the land as it stands right now, which is Roe v. Wade.”

Booker voted “NO” in the Senate this year on a bill that would’ve required doctors to provide medical care to infants born alive after an attempted abortion.

RINO Romney Calls GOP Rep. Justin Amash’s Support Trump’s Impeachment “Courageous”; Trump Calls Amash A “Loser”

By Fox News. Rep. Justin Amash, R-Mich., became the first Republican to publicly accuse Trump of engaging in “impeachable conduct” stemming from Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s lengthy investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election – earning the little-known congressman praise from Democrats, derision from Republican leadership in the House, and a mixed response from other lawmakers. . .

One member of Congress who was not a fan of Amash’s comments on impeachment was House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., who claimed that his colleague was just seeking attention when he made his comment.

“This is exactly what he wants, he wants to have attention,” McCarthy said on “Sunday Morning Futures.” “You’ve got to understand Justin Amash. He’s been in Congress quite some time. I think he’s asked one question in all the committees that he’s been in. He votes more with Nancy Pelosi than he ever votes with me. It’s a question whether he’s even in our Republican conference as a whole.”

Sen. Mitt Romney, R-Utah, offered a more nuanced appraisal of Amash’s comment, saying on Sunday that he thinks the congressman was “courageous” for speaking against party line . . . Trump Calls Representative Justin Amash a ‘Loser’ over Impeachment Talk

By The New York Times. President Trump attacked Representative Justin Amash as a “total lightweight” and “loser” on Sunday, a day after the Michigan Republican said Mr. Trump’s behavior as president had reached the “threshold for impeachment.” . . .

“Never a fan of @justinamash, a total lightweight who opposes me and some of our great Republican ideas and policies just for the sake of getting his name out there through controversy,” Mr. Trump wrote in a midmorning Twitter riff that included, among other things, criticism of the “Fake News Sunday Political Shows” and boasts about his judicial appointments and health care policies.

“Justin is a loser who sadly plays right into our opponents hands!” he added. (Read more from “Trump Calls Representative Justin Amash a ‘Loser’ over Impeachment Talk” HERE)

Trump Says It’s “Great” Mayor Pete’s “Husband” Is Campaigning with Him; Buttigieg Attacks Trump, Confesses He Joined Military for Politics

By Fox News. 2020 Democratic presidential hopeful Pete Buttigieg thinks it’s nice that President Trump is cool with his marriage to another man, but what really interests him is how the Trump administration handles LGBT policies.

“That’s nice,” Buttigieg said during an interview on NPR. “I’m more interested in policies that affect LGBTQ people” . . .

Trump said last week that he thought it was “great” seeing Buttigieg campaign alongside his husband Chasten, and added that he had “no problem with it whatsoever.”

“I think it’s absolutely fine. I do,” Trump said during an interview of Fox News’ “The Next Revolution with Steve Hilton” that is set to be aired Sunday. “I think it’s great. I think that’s something that perhaps some people will have a problem with. I have no problem with it whatsoever. I think it’s good.” (Read more from “Trump Says It’s “Great” Mayor Pete’s “Husband” Is Campaigning with Him; Buttigieg Attacks Trump, Confesses He Joined Military for Politics” HERE)

Buttigieg Confesses His Military Service Was for Political Purposes

By CNN. . . . Buttigieg rarely reveals that his path to the military actually came from a presidential race. As a volunteer for Barack Obama’s campaign in Iowa 12 years ago, he said he felt guilty that so many young people in rural communities were signing up for the Army or National Guard.

“I might have dragged my feet on it forever if I hadn’t had that experience in Iowa and just realizing that some communities were almost emptying out their youth in the military and some were barely serving at all,” Buttigieg told CNN. “And I wanted to be on the right side of that gap.”

Asked whether he thought at the time that his military service could help aid a future political career, he replied: “There have been times in our history when being in the military was popular. There have been times when it’s been unpopular.”

He added: “You never really know when you sign up what it’s going to be like over the years.” (Read more from “Buttigieg Confesses His Military Service Was for Political Purposes” HERE)

Bill De Blasio’s Presidential Campaign Could Backfire — and Leave Him Jobless

By The Blaze. New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio added his name to the already crowded field of Democrats vying for their party’s presidential nomination and a chance to challenge President Donald Trump in 2020 last week. . .

The city’s “committee on mayoral inability” — a five-member body of elected officials — could declare De Blasio “temporarily unable to discharge the powers and duties,” effectively removing him from office, if he abandons the Big Apple on the path to the White House. . .

The city charter explains that mayoral succession was designed for instances where the city’s mayor is removed by the governor or times when the mayor is too sick to perform his duties, but leaves open the possibility for “other” reasons, including when the mayor is absent from the city. . .

However, former New York City Major Rudy Giuliani, who now works as a personal attorney to President Donald Trump, said De Blasio will not be missed in the city — whether he’s there or not. (Read more from “Bill De Blasio’s Presidential Campaign Could Backfire — and Leave Him Jobless” HERE)

Bill De Blasio Could Lose His Job over White House Bid If He’s Not Careful

By NY Post. Mayor Bill de Blasio’s presidential dreams had better not make him too neglectful of his day job — or he could lose it, under a never-before-used clause in the city charter.

The poison pill buried in the document’s dense legalese is the “committee on mayoral inability,” a five-member body with the power to declare the mayor “temporarily unable to discharge the powers and duties” of the office.

Comptroller Scott Stringer — who has publicly worried about the mayor’s distraction — is a member, along with City Council Speaker Corey Johnson and Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr., the longest-serving of the city’s five beeps.

The committee would also include two mayoral appointees, Corporation Counsel Zachary Carter and a deputy mayor to be named later, by de Blasio himself. (Read more from “Bill De Blasio Could Lose His Job over White House Bid If He’s Not Careful” HERE)

Border Agent Makes Concerning Revelation About What’s Happening on the Front Lines

A U.S. Border Patrol agent warned that our nation has “lost control of the border,” during an interview on Fox News Channel.

During an interview with Fox News Channel’s Outnumbered, U.S. Border Patrol Agent Hector Garza, in his role as vice-president of the National Border Patrol Council (NBPC), told Harris Faulkner, “We’ve lost control of the border, as we are right now.” He continued saying we must come up with a new plan to correct the problems that led to the loss of control of the border.

Garza’s comments came as President Donald Trump prepared to announce his plans for new immigration policies on Thursday. The NBPC vice-president said that his organization’s president, Brandon Judd, would be having a phone conference with the White House to discuss the plan’s potential impact on the border.

“As it is right now, we are having a very hard time at the border,” Garza explained in recognition of the massive numbers of Central American migrant families being apprehended by Border Patrol agents after illegally crossing the border from Mexico. . .

“Our Border Patrol chief has mentioned that over 50 percent of our agents are not securing the border and they’re now actually processing, transporting, and carrying for some of these asylum seekers,” Garza explained. “But I would challenge that percentage. I would put that percentage somewhere in the range of 75 percent.” (Read more from “Border Agent Makes Concerning Revelation About What’s Happening on the Front Lines” HERE)

This GOP Rep Is Calling for Trump’s Impeachment

Rep. Justin Amash (R-MI) on Saturday took to Twitter to explain why he believes impeachment proceedings against President Donald Trump should occur. According to Amash, Attorney General William Barr “deliberately misrepresented [Special Counsel Robert] Mueller’s report” into the alleged collusion between Russia and the Trump campaign.

Progressives Want Democratic Party to Purge Remaining Pro-Lifers

Leaders of the Congressional Progressive Caucus are demanding that the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee abandon its support of the five remaining pro-life Democrats in Congress and allow abortion advocates to compete for their seats.

Newsweek reports that the CPC’s co-chair, Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-WA), has now said, in no uncertain terms, that Democrats who do not support the practice of ending unborn life in the womb are no longer welcome in the party, and that they should be primaried out of office by more reliable Democrats.

“I think we should allow for strong primary challenges, so that people can really put their Democratic chops on the line, if you will, and let the Democratic voters decide who they want,” Jayapal told a press conference. “You can’t say you’re a Democrat if you’re against immigrants, if you’re against abortion, if you’re against gay marriage and LGBTQ rights. I’m not sure what it means to be a Democrat if all of those things are true.” . . .

“I understand that the DCCC is funded by—we are a membership organization—it’s funded by our members. And I understand that the DCCC is often going to try to protect the incumbent,” Jayapal concluded. “But I do think we have to look at all of these issues and think about what it means to be a Democrat.”

Justice Democrats, the group that championed far-left progressives like Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Coretz (D-NY) in the last election cycle and is now challenging the DCCC and DNC for cutting openly progressive campaign workers out of official directories, agreed that pro-lifers now have no place in the Democratic party and that they intend to fight for their exclusion. Another Major Pro-Life Bill Passed, But This One Signed by DEMOCRATIC Governor!

Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards reportedly signaled he would sign his state’s “heartbeat” legislation — effectively banning abortions after just weeks of pregnancy — as his party faced questions over whether it should be more inclusive of pro-life voices. . .

The bill, which awaited a vote from the Louisiana House of Representatives, would make the state one of the strictest on abortion access — following a slew of other states that passed restrictions in an apparent attempt to make the Supreme Court reconsider major precedent on the issue.

Pro-life advocates have heralded measures like “heartbeat” legislation while groups like Planned Parenthood have challenged them in a series of legal battles. Louisiana’s bill could face a lawsuit from the same group — the American Civil Liberties Union — that sued Ohio over its own “heartbeat” legislation. . .

“My position hasn’t changed. In eight years in the Legislature, I was a pro-life legislator,” Edwards said. Edwards attributed his pro-life stance to his faith but it also appeared to hold personal significance. Nearly three decades ago, he and his wife decided to have his daughter, diagnosed as a baby with spina bifida, against the doctor’s advice to abort. . .

According to a Marist poll from 2019, Democrats varied in their opinion on abortion restrictions. But a strong majority — 60 percent — said they supported limiting abortion to the first trimester. Another poll from May showed that overall, registered voters thought heartbeat bills were either “just right” or “too lenient.” That contrasted with 45 percent who said they were “too restrictive.” (Read more from “Another Major Pro-Life Bill Passed, But This One Signed by DEMOCRATIC Governor!” HERE)
