Members of Congress Allegedly Sexually Harassed Night Shift Staff

Members of Congress allegedly sexually harassed night shift custodial staff as they cleaned their offices, according to a recent inspector general’s report on sexual harassment within the Architect of the Capitol.

The IG report, first reported by Roll Call, examines the Architect of the Capitol’s (AOC) response to sexual harassment complaints over the last 10 years. It includes allegations that workers endured sexual harassment by members of Congress and their staff. . .

It found 57 incidents of sexual harassment reported since 2008, 44 percent of which it says were substantiated. The report notes that it is a relatively low number, but the perception remains that harassment is a problem.

The IG said that it found “reluctance to cooperate” with the inquiry from AOC, and cited it as evidence of “cultural resistance and lack of transparency at all levels.” It blasted an “outdated cultural attitude” in some departments, which it said has set a tone of “permissibility.” . . .

The outlet notes that dozens of lawmakers reportedly sleep in their offices rather than rent an apartment, some sleep of mattresses, futons and murphy bed — meaning that night staff can possibly encounter lawmakers in states of undress. Illegal Immigration Is Already Hurting Commerce at the Border

Last week, many media figures and members of Congress warned the Trump administration that some of its ideas to deter illegal immigration would devastate commerce at the border. But it appears now that not stopping the border flow is already resulting in a partial shutdown of commerce at our points of entry. Agents are being diverted from points of entry to manage and process the asylum scam at our border, resulting in lane closures and partial shutdowns at certain points. We should use those resources to enforce an immigration and asylum shutdown, to push back the aliens or detain them in tent cities in order to stop the flow, and in the long run, to reopen commerce.

Last week, Customs and Border Protection (CBP) redirected roughly 545 of its “blue shirt” customs officers who man the points of entry to help the “green shirt” Border Patrol agents deal with the influx of Central American families and children entering between the points of entry. However, they are not being redirected to hold the line against the influx and deter the aliens from entering, but rather to further expedite catch-and-release.

Yesterday, the Washington Post wrote a long article chronicling the complaints of trade associations regarding the slowdown at points of entry: the “trucks backed up for hours and industry leaders warning of possible produce shortages and supply-chain interruptions.” They tacitly accuse the administration of implementing “a slow-motion facsimile of the border closure that President Trump threatened two weeks ago before backing down amid protests that shutting down the border would hurt the economy.”

Furthermore, as of the beginning of this month, CBP has shut down all commercial trucking lanes at the Nogales, Arizona, port on Sundays until further notice. It cites the redeployment of customs agents to deal with the border crisis as the cause.

Senator John Cornyn, who doesn’t seem to be too concerned about the actual invasion itself, also complained bitterly about Trump’s response to it. “The diversion of frontline CBP personnel from these ports, and the threat of a possible closure in the future, threatens to have a debilitating impact on the overall health of Texas’ economy,” wrote Texas’ senior senator in a letter to Acting DHS Secretary Kevin McAleenan. “Some Texas ports of entry have reported cross-border wait times in excess of seven hours, resulting in lost revenue and perished goods.

But nobody is really explaining what they want the administration to do instead. If they don’t want the president to choke off all immigration, then more agents are indeed needed to process the flow. Brian Hastings, chief of law enforcement operations for Border Patrol, told reporters in a conference call on Tuesday that “on average the Border Patrol is sending 63 people per day for additional medical treatment” from the illegal immigrant families. “This is the highest we have seen this number since we began tracking this,” he warned. “We’re currently on track to refer over 31,000 people for medical treatment this year as compared to only 12,000 during fiscal year 2018.”

The need for a redeployment of agents is obvious. According to Hastings, “Since December 22, 2018, US Border Patrol has spent over 100,000 hours — agent hours — at a hospital or medical facility.”

And the trajectory is not good: “Most concerning for us looking ahead is summer is approaching, this typically historically has meant increased flow from what we’ve seen in prior years and we’re concerned with the high temperatures paired with the dangerous and crowded conditions on the journey that puts this vulnerable population of family units and unaccompanied children at risk.”

Thus, at this point, the administration appears to have two options. It can either divert staff to help process and further incentivize this influx of illegal immigrants, or it could declare a “212(f)” shutoff of all immigration requests and use other federal law enforcement, as well as the military, to hold the line against the influx and deter them. Either way, commerce and trade will be hampered in the coming weeks. However, the former approach would ensure that it’s hampered forever, while accelerating the illegal immigration influx. The latter approach would shut down the next waves of illegal immigration in the pipeline, thereby allowing business as usual to resume within a few weeks. The administration will have to come to the conclusion sooner rather than later. (For more from the author of “Illegal Immigration Is Already Hurting Commerce at the Border” please click HERE)

BUSTED: Mount Vernon Debunks Politico’s Fake News Story About Trump’s Visit to Washington’s Estate

How many times will the liberal media have to endure getting hit in the face with their shoddy reporting about the Trump White House? Seriously, how many stories have been utterly gutted for being straight trash? From the oodles of bombshells that were nothing burgers about Russian collusion to the bust of MLK Jr.being removed from the Oval Office, the list of fake news stories is extensive. So, it shouldn’t shock us that Politico was caught red-handed trying to bash Trump for being uninterested in a tour of Mount Vernon when French President Emmanuel Macron visited last April. Supposedly, sources said this tour was “truly bizarre,” with Trump being unengaged, asking why George Washington didn’t name any real estate after him (via Politico) [emphasis mine]:

During a guided tour of Mount Vernon last April with French president Emmanuel Macron, Trump learned that Washington was one of the major real-estate speculators of his era. So, he couldn’t understand why America’s first president didn’t name his historic Virginia compound or any of the other property he acquired after himself.

“If he was smart, he would’ve put his name on it,” Trump said, according to three sources briefed on the exchange. “You’ve got to put your name on stuff or no one remembers you.”

. . .

Yeah, if there’s one thing that we know about anonymous sources in the anti-Trump resistance era is that they’re usually wrong. And Mount Vernon made that clear in a statement released today:

Mount Vernon President Doug Bradburn and Regent Sarah Coulson escorted the presidents and first ladies on a tour of the Mansion on April 23, 2018. During the tour, all parties were interested and engaged in the story of George Washington and his beloved home. Conversations touched on topics like business dealings, real estate, and related matters that were of relevance and interest to the touring parties, and questions were asked by both leaders with curiosity and respect. Comments pulled from sources who were not present for the tour do not properly convey the tone and context in which they were delivered.

Poll Shows Trump Economic Approval Drastically Rising

A little over a month ago, we highlighted a Gallup poll showing President Trump’s job approval on the economy bouncing to an all-time high of 56 percent. Though his overall ratings were (and remain) substantially lower — which is undoubtedly a major strike against his re-election prospects — a clear majority of voters have been pleased with his handling of an extremely important issue. That Gallup numbers came out in early March. As we approach mid-April, NBC reports on a fresh ‘battleground’ poll that mirrors the same result, perhaps with a slight improvement:

Voters’ attitudes about the economy will be the driving force in the next presidential election, according to the first Georgetown Institute of Politics and Public Service “Battleground Poll” of the 2020 cycle…While President Trump’s overall unfavorable rating has remained steady at 55 percent since he announced his candidacy in 2015, 58 percent of voters approve of the job he has done on the economy…Gender will play a role in 2020, with men saying they’ll vote Republican by a 9-point margin while women say they’ll vote Democratic by an 18-point margin on a generic Congressional ballot. This gender gap has been mainly caused by a decline in support for Republicans among married white women and white women overall. On the issue of the economy, however, President Trump still has a 58 percent approval from white women and a 63 percent approval from married white women.

New York Post Cover Photo Shreds Ilhan Omar for Trivializing 9/11 Terror Attacks

The New York Post issued a scathing rebuke of Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) with their Thursday cover and editorial after Omar described the September 11, 2001, Islamic terror attacks that killed thousands of Americans as “some people did something.”

Omar made the remarks, which sparked widespread outrage, during a March 23 speech at an event for the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) — which the United Arab Emirates has designated as a terrorist organization. Omar has since bemoaned criticism of her from Fox News and Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-TX) in response to her remarks by alleging that they were engaging in “dangerous incitement” against her.

The New York Post responded to Omar’s comments by making this the feature story in their Thursday publication with a cover photo of the World Trade Centers under attack on September 11, 2001, and with a headline that stated: “Here’s your something.”

“How pathetic: A member of Congress can’t acknowledge what happened on one of the most horrific days in US history,” The New York Post Editorial Board wrote. “Some people did something? Wow. What a way to describe the heinous surprise attack on America that claimed 3,000 lives.”

At the March 23 event, Omar said: “CAIR was founded after 9/11 because they recognized that some people did something, and that all of us were starting to lose access to our civil liberties.” (Read more from “New York Post Cover Photo Shreds Ilhan Omar for Trivializing 9/11 Terror Attacks” HERE)

Pelosi Is Outraged at Leaked Plan From Trump Admin to Punish ‘Sanctuary Cities’

A plan to retaliate against the political foes of the president by busing illegal immigrants to ‘sanctuary cities’ was leaked by whistleblowers on Thursday, and Democrats are outraged.

“The extent of this administration’s cynicism and cruelty cannot be overstated,” said Ashley Etienne, a spokeswoman for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.).

“Using human beings — including little children — as pawns in their warped game to perpetuate fear and demonize immigrants is despicable,” she concluded. . .

The plan was revealed in the Washington Post, which relied on anonymous sources in the administration, but it was confirmed by a statement from the White House. . .

The report says administration officials pressured the Department of Homeland Security to implement the plan twice in order to pressure political enemies of President Donald Trump, but they resisted. President Trump Is Considering Scrapping a Government Agency

President Donald Trump is expected to dissolve the Office of Personnel Management at some point during this summer, according to a report from the Washington Post.

What is the Office of Personnel Management?

The Office of Personnel Management works as sort of a massive human resources agency for the federal government. According to its website, “OPM directs human resources and employee management services, administers retirement benefits, manages healthcare and insurance programs, oversees merit-based and inclusive hiring into the civil service, and provides a secure employment process.”

In 2019, OPM had a self-declared total operating budget of $295,920,000.

Trump only recently appointed a new head to the agency, nominating Dale Cabaniss of Virginia on March 4.

What would happen?

The Washington Post reported that Trump plans to break up the agency into three sections, which would be absorbed by the Defense Department, the General Services Administration, and the Office of Management and Budget. Initially, all employees would be reassigned to one of these different sections, rather than being laid off. However, the total number of employees would be slowly reduced by not replacing those who retire or who leave due to other reasons. Currently, the agency employs 5,565 people.

The acting head of the agency, Margaret Weichert, called the move “a big, exemplary step,” according to the Washington Post. She said that the agency was “fundamentally not set up for success, structurally.”

Democrats like Rep. Gerry Connolly, D-Va., spoke out strongly against this move, calling it executive overreach. However, as the Washington Post noted, both the Obama administration and Hillary Clinton’s 2016 campaign had considered dissolving the agency.

But why?

This could be a move to help shrink the overall size of the federal government. While Trump has spoken repeatedly about cutting federal spending, including asking members of his own cabinet in October to cut 5 percent of their budgets, spending has ballooned under his leadership.

Federal government spending during the first six months of this fiscal year was 13.7 percent higher than it was during former President Barack Obama’s final year in office. The federal budget deficit, the amount the government spends beyond what it takes in, for the first six months of the year came to $693 billion, according to Congressional Budget Office estimates. It is expected to pass $1 trillion in 2020.

The federal budget deficit differs from the national debt, which is made up of each yearly deficit combined with accruing interest. The budget deficit itself resets at the start of each fiscal year. The current national debt is in excess of $22 trillion. (For more from the author of “President Trump Is Considering Scrapping a Government Agency” please click HERE)

Trump’s New Interior Chief Confirmed Despite Dems’ Climate Change Fearmongering

The Senate confirmed President Trump’s latest nominee to head up the Department of the Interior by a vote of 56-41.

Three Senate Democrats — Martin Heinrich, N.M., Kirsten Sinema, Ariz., and Joe Manchin, W.V. — along with Independent Sen. Angus King, Maine, joined their Republican colleagues in voting for the nominee.

David Bernhardt will take over the job vacated by former Secretary Ryan Zinke in December and was confirmed despite vocal objections from Democratic lawmakers.

In addition to his record as an attorney and Interior Department official under President George W. Bush, Bernhardt also used to work as an energy lobbyist for a time. That portion of resume generated the bulk of his opposition from Democrats who claim that his supposed conflicts of interest disqualify him from the job.

Bernhardt’s confirmation hearing made a lot of headlines, not necessarily because of the nominee’s testimony, but because of an onlooker who wore a swamp monster mask in the chamber while it was happening.

Earlier this week, a group of over 50 House Democrats sent out a letter to their colleagues in the upper chamber, urging them to oppose Bernhardt’s nomination.

“As our climate crisis only grows in urgency and magnitude, it is more important than ever that we have a secretary who will defend and protect our natural resources and wildlife,” the letter reads. “Unfortunately, Mr. Bernhardt has a lengthy record of advancing corporate interests at the expense of the environment.”

Before the vote, Sen. Cory Gardner, R-Colo., took to the floor to defend Bernhardt against the accusations.

“Over the course of the last couple months, the Washington, D.C., political smear machine has been working overtime to sully a good man’s name,” Gardner said while touting Bernhardt’s background at the Department of Interior and his ethics record.

“This is not about Mr. Bernhardt’s ethics or his integrity or his qualifications,” Gardner later added. “It’s about the fact that he has been and will be effective at implementing an agenda that the other side doesn’t agree with. Because they know he will be effective at protecting our great outdoors and our public lands.” (For more from the author of “Trump’s New Interior Chief Confirmed Despite Dems’ Climate Change Fearmongering” please click HERE)

Flashback: Hillary Clinton Suggested Drone Strike on Assange

Following the arrest of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange today, Breitbart News has decided to flash back to allegations from October 2016 in which Hillary Clinton suggested that the U.S. government drone strike Assange.

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange was arrested at the Ecuadorian embassy in London today. Reports have now been made that the arrest was the result of an extradition warrant on behalf of the United States. Many U.S. politicians seemed happy with the extradition of Assange including Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) who stated during an interview with CNN: “It will be really good to get him back on United States soil. He’s our property. We can get the facts and the truth from him.”

Many politicians dislike Julian Assange. But one U.S. politician seems to dislike him in particular, Hillary Clinton. In an article published in October 2016 — shortly after the publication of multiple internal DNC emails – Clinton is alleged to have discussed a plan to silence Assange.

“Can’t we just drone this guy?” allegedly asked Clinton. The comment from Clinton caused laughter from the other top state officials present at the time, but this laughter died down as Clinton continued to discuss the idea stating that Assange was a soft target “walking around” freely, according to the article.

Cummings Threatens to Hold DOJ Official in Contempt of Congress If He Doesn’t Testify About Citizenship Question

House Oversight and Reform Committee Chairman Elijah Cummings (D-MD) warned Attorney General William Barr in a letter Thursday that if DOJ official John Gore doesn’t obey his subpoena and testify before the panel, they are prepared to hold him in contempt of Congress. The DOJ had previously informed Cummings that Gore will not appear unless he’s allowed to have an agency lawyer by his side.

“The Committee expects Mr. Gore to testify in accordance with the Committee’s lawful subpoena and the Committee’s rules,” Cummings wrote. “If Mr. Gore fails to comply with the subpoena, the Committee will consider him to be in contempt of Congress.”

Cummings indicated that the committee wants to glean information from Gore about the citizenship question that was added to the 2020 census under the direction of Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross.

The House Oversight Committee grilled Ross last month about the change, which he defended. Democrats like Rep. Jackie Speier (CA) asserted that Ross’s voting rights justification “was just a cynical pretext to trample on the rights of immigrants.” California was among the coalition of 17 states that sued the Commerce Department over the census change.

Conservative lawmakers, as you can imagine, have a whole different perspective. Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) came out with a report today accusing Democrats of “fear mongering” and added that the campaign Cummings is leading against the citizenship question is a “partisan investigation.” (Read more from “Cummings Threatens to Hold DOJ Official in Contempt of Congress If He Doesn’t Testify About Citizenship Question” HERE)
