Fencing Cut in Half in Texas County Hard Hit by Border Crisis. Thanks, Democrats

Imagine if the government was still operating on a short-term stopgap budget bill? The president would have the leverage of a funding bill with all the information now available to the public depicting the unprecedented emergency at our border. Yet, that leverage was signed away for an omnibus bill that actually made the policy worse and threw pennies at a partial border fence with a number of limitations. Now, one of those limitations is coming home to roost, and it was done so by design.

To begin with, all new border barrier construction authorized in the February budget bill was limited to the liberal Rio Grande Valley (RGV) sector. Why does the politics of that border sector matter? Section 232(a) of the bill stated, “prior to use of any funds made available by this Act for the construction of physical barriers” the Department of Homeland Security “shall confer and seek to reach mutual agreement regarding the design and alignment of physical barriers within that city.” With whom must the feds consult? “The local elected officials.”

Starr County, Texas, for example, went for Hillary Clinton in 2016 by a margin of 79 percent to 19 percent. Not only is the RGV a Democrat bastion, sadly, many public officials and even law enforcement in the area have been indicted in recent years on charges of working with dangerous Mexican cartels. As Breitbart Texas reported at the time, several Starr County Sheriffs, among other local leaders, have been sent to prison for working with the cartels. Needless to say, there is not a lot of support among the political leaders of this area to build a wall, as I warned back in February.

Fast-forward two months and Henry Cuellar, one of the Democrat congressmen from the region, is bragging about having placed this provision in the bill and seeing it bear fruit. On Wednesday, Rep. Cuellar sent out a press release, picked up by the Texas Monitor, boasting that the planned levee fencing system at the Rio Grande River for Starr County has now been cut in half from eight miles long to just four miles.

“I worked hard to include language through the appropriations process that would protect communities from an ineffective and divisive border wall. This change order reduces the number of miles from eight to four in Starr County,” Cuellar wrote in the release.

Evidently, the mayors of La Grulla and Roma, a pair of small border towns on opposite sides of Starr County, each protested the construction of the levee fencing along the Rio Grande River. Cuellar is the one who helped secure the provision in the bill granting veto authority to local officials. Somehow, when it comes to the most quintessential national issue in scope (securing our international border) Democrats are suddenly big fans of localism.

Congressman Cuellar was concerned for the “ecologically sensitive areas” of the county and the effects of border wall construction on those environmental and historically sensitive areas. Every day, thousands of illegal aliens trample through the area and the cartels and drug runners engage in dangerous high-speed bailouts to avoid detection. Those ecological effects never seem to factor in their political calculous. In March, Jim Chilton, an Arizona border rancher, told me that the cartels have caused “incalculable” environmental harm to his property, including setting forest fires, thanks to the lack of border fencing.

Jaeson Jones, a retired captain for Texas’s Department of Public Safety was indignant about this decision to block fencing in these particular areas. “It is shameful that elected officials would stop construction of a border wall in this area putting the lives of our citizens at further risk,” said Jones, who spent many years coordinating counter-cartel operations in the Rio Grande Valley for the Intelligence and Counterterrorism division of Texas DPS. “In Texas, Starr County is known for being one of the most unsecure areas of the border. For decades, it has been fraught with Mexican cartels, drug trafficking, human trafficking, human smuggling and riddled with public corruption.”

Jones warned that Roma is one of the worst places to block fencing. “Across from Roma, Texas lies Miguel Aleman, Mx which is a small community under the control of the Gulf Cartel. On a monthly basis, more than five tons of narcotics are smuggled into the United States in this one area alone. Two weeks ago, the Gulf Cartel (CDG) and Cartel Del Noreste (CDN) killed over thirty people in two days of fighting in the small town of Miguel Aleman. Seven cartel armored vehicles were burned and for days automatic weapons and explosions could be heard throughout the small town of Roma, Texas. As a result, the Texas Department of Public Safety and the United States Customs and Border Protection had to send special operations units to help protect communities on the U.S. side of the border.”

The brilliance of the Democrats who crafted the omnibus signed by the president is that they blocked off most federal and state lands from construction of border barriers. Those were the only areas where local authorities would not have inherent authority over the construction. Thus, between the provisions limiting the wall to the liberal Rio Grande Valley, granting veto authority to local officials, and walling off federal and state parks, they have all their bases covered. Even with just one branch of government, Democrats are successfully building a wall around border security. CBS Drama Tweet With ‘Assassinate Trump’ Sparks Calls for Secret Service Investigation

By Breitbart. CBS crime drama The Good Fight tweeted an image on Friday from a recent episode, entitled, “The One Where Diane Joins the Resistance.” The image showed a character pointing to a list of “target words” that included the phrases “Assassinate President Trump” and “Eliminate Mar-a-Lago.” The tweet, which has since been deleted, sparked backlash among Twitter users, many of whom reported CBS to the Secret Service.

The official CBS Twitter account for The Good Fight asked viewers if they had noticed any “Easter eggs” within the “target words” from the Mach episode.

“Hmmm… some of those target words look a little familiar. Did you catch any easter eggs in this scene from The One Where Diane Joins The Resistance? #TheGoodFight” tweeted the account on Friday.

“Threatening the President of the United States is a federal felony under United States Code Title 18, Section 871. It consists of knowingly and willfully mailing or otherwise making ‘any threat to take the life of, to kidnap, or to inflict bodily harm upon the President’” said one Twitter user in a reply to the CBS account.

“@SecretService, please investigate this assassination threat against President Trump,” tweeted conservative activist Scott Presler. (Read more from “CBS Drama Tweet With ‘Assassinate Trump’ Sparks Calls for Secret Service Investigation” HERE)

F-16 Grounded After Shooting Itself

By WND. An Dutch F-16 fighter jet, obtained from the United States, had to make an emergency landing after it shot itself. . .

Details weren’t available on how the jet encountered the shells from its own 20mm rotary cannon, but officials in the Royal Netherlands Air Force said there was “considerable damage.”

One cartridge caused damage to the exterior of the jet, and parts also ended up in the engine.

The incident happened Jan. 21 when two jets were firing on a target in a training ground.

Officials said the situation was very serious. (Read more from “F-16 Grounded After Shooting Itself” HERE)

Dutch F-16 Makes Emergency Landing After Plane Shoots Itself

By Military Times. The Royal Netherlands Air Force pilot was able to make an emergency landing at Leeuwarden Air Base after the plane suffered “considerable damage,” according to a report from Dutch state media.

At least one round ripped through the jet’s exterior, the report said, while munition fragments were also found in the aircraft’s engine. . .

“We therefore want to fully investigate what happened and how we would be able to avoid this in future.” . . .

Thomas W. Attridge Jr. became the first pilot to do so in September 1956 when, flying as a test pilot for Grumman, the 33-year-old former Navy officer shot down his own F11F-1 Tiger, similar to the variant used by the Blue Angels during the 1960s.

At an altitude of 20,000 feet, Attridge entered into a dive while firing the Tiger’s 20mm rotary cannon. (Read more from “Dutch F-16 Makes Emergency Landing After Plane Shoots Itself” HERE)

Politicians Are Trying to Create 51st State

A group of state Republican lawmakers recently signed on to legislation proposing the nation’s third-largest city become the 51st state.

“It’s more of a frustration of the policies than the true belief that Chicago and Illinois would be better off as separate states,” Rep. C.D. Davidsmeyer told the State Journal-Register. “I don’t believe that Chicago and the state of Illinois should be separated. Our relationship is mutually beneficial.” . . .

“The reality is the city of Chicago is competing with New York City and L.A. and San Francisco, and (downstate is) competing against rural Indiana and rural Missouri,” he told the State Journal-Register. “The policies that come down from Chicago are actually pushing our economic opportunity away.” . . .

The bill, HR0101, was introduced in February by state Rep. Brad Halbrook, who said he supports removing the city of 2.7 million people from Illinois because of differing views on issues such as abortion and gun rights. . .

Halbrook co-sponsored a similar resolution filed last year that failed. This year’s attempt has even less of a chance of succeeding and getting out of the Rules Committee in the Democratic-controlled legislature as Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker and the leaders of the state House and Senate are all Democrats from Chicago. (Read more from “Politicians Are Trying to Create 51st State” HERE)

Battle Over Censoring Homosexual Therapy Intensifies

A significant free-speech case in which liberal activists are pressing states to censor viewpoints with which they disagree is only a step away from the U.S. Supreme Court.

That’s after Liberty Counsel filed a brief asking the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals to overrule a district court’s ruling against therapy involving “sexual orientation change efforts,” or SOCE. . .

Liberty Counsel sued on behalf of counselors Robert Otto and Julie Hamilton and their minor clients. U.S. District Court Judge Robin Rosenberg, despite acknowledging First Amendment protections, refused to grant a preliminary order blocking the ordinances while the case proceeds. . .

“These ordinances are unconstitutional speech restrictions that violate the First Amendment,” said Mat Staver, founder of Liberty Counsel. “We have a number of similar challenges pending in other federal courts. It is just a matter of time before one of them gets to the Supreme Court and may put an end to these draconian speech restrictions.” . . .

“In National Institute for Family & Life Advocates v. Becerra (NIFLA), involving crisis pregnancy centers, the U.S. Supreme Court made it clear that the government must satisfy the highest constitutional scrutiny when it enacts laws infringing on the speech of licensed professionals. Although Judge Rosenberg acknowledged that the city and county failed to show that their ordinances satisfy this high scrutiny, she still denied the preliminary injunction,” the organization said. Sanctuary Cities Welcome Illegal Aliens With ‘Open Arms’ While 38K American Veterans Remain Homeless

Sanctuary cities across the United States are responding to President Donald Trump’s threat to bus border crossers and illegal aliens to their jurisdictions, saying they plan to welcome all illegal immigration with “open arms” despite soaring homelessness problems.

Last week, Trump threatened to bus border crossers and illegal aliens into sanctuary cities and states, like California and New York City, if the country’s asylum laws were not changed. White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders on Sunday confirmed that the White House is considering the plan. . .

Sanctuary city mayors like Oakland, California, Mayor Libby Schaaf have responded to Trump’s threat by saying they plan to welcome any and all illegal aliens to their cities — even those cities that are struggling with rising homelessness. Currently, there are nearly 38,000 homeless American veterans across the country. . .

As of 2017, there were more than 2,700 Oakland residents who were homeless — an increase of 25 percent when compared to two years before. In all of Alameda County, there are about 5,630 homeless residents. In all of California, there are nearly 130,000 homeless residents, including nearly 11,000 homeless American Veterans. . .

In total, there are more than 550,000 American residents who are homeless nationwide. Meanwhile, the U.S. admits more than 1.5 million illegal and legal immigrants every year — the overwhelming majority of which are low skilled workers who compete for jobs against America’s poor, working, and middle class. The Washington, DC-imposed mass immigration policy drives housing costs up for Americans, economists have found. Trump Campaign Rakes in MAJOR Money During First Quarter

President Trump’s re-election campaign raised $30.3 million in the first quarter of this year, far pacing the leading fundraisers among the Democrats, Fox News confirmed Sunday.

The Trump campaign said nearly 99 percent of its donations were of $200 or less, with an average donation of $34.26. In all, the campaign had $40.8 million cash on hand, an unprecedented war chest for an incumbent president this early in the campaign.

Trump’s fundraising ability was matched by the Republican National Committee, which brought in $45.8 million in the first quarter — its highest non-election year total. Combined, the pro-Trump effort reported $82 million in the bank. The numbers were reported first by The Associated Press.

Trump formally launched his reelection effort just hours after taking office in 2017, earlier than any incumbent had in prior years. By contrast, former President Barack Obama launched his 2012 effort in April 2011 and had under $2 million on hand at this point in the campaign. Obama went on to raise more than $720 million for his reelection. Trump’s reelection effort has set a $1 billion target for 2020.

Among Trump’s would-be Democratic challengers, Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders was leading the money race after taking in $18.2 million in the first quarter of this year. He was followed by California Sen. Kamala Harris, with $12 million. Former Rep. Beto O’Rourke ($9.4 million), South Bend, Ind. Mayor Pete Buttigieg ($7 million) and Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren ($6 million) rounded out the top five fundraisers among Democrats. (Read more from “Trump Campaign Rakes in MAJOR Money During First Quarter” HERE)

Illegal Alien Accused of Murdering Five Americans Found Dead in Jail Cell

A previously deported illegal alien who was charged with murdering five Americans in 2016 was found dead in his jail cell this week, Missouri officials announced.

As Breitbart News has chronicled, 40-year-old Pablo Serrano-Vitorino, an illegal alien from Mexico, was accused and charged with murdering five American men in March 2016. Serrano-Vitorino, prosecutors allege, had gone on a murder spree with a rifle across Kansas and Missouri, shooting and killing five men in total. . .

This week, Missouri officials announced that Serrano-Vitorino had been founded dead in his jail cell, where he was awaiting a murder trial for the killings and was facing the death penalty. After being arrested for the murders, the illegal alien attempted suicide but was stopped and rushed to a nearby hospital. More Troops Likely to Head to Border

Acting Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan said Friday that he expects there will be more U.S. troops deployed to the U.S.-Mexico border, as the situation there worsens.

“First of all, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that we’ll provide more support to the border. The way I tend to frame that is: Our support is very elastic, and given the deterioration there at the border, you would expect that we would provide more support,” he told reporters at the Pentagon before a meeting with the German defense minister. . .

He said the Pentagon has not received any formal requests for more help from the Department of Homeland Security, which would initiate the request for more assistance. But, he said, “We’ve been having a number of conversations with DHS.”

Shanahan said a planning team for border support would be in the building on Saturday, and would follow up with where the Department of Defense is on barrier construction, on troops deployed, and what types of preliminary plans should be done prior to receiving a DHS request for assistance. . .

Shanahan authorized transferring the money from the Army to a fund that can be used to construct roads and fences and to install lighting to block drug-smuggling corridors across U.S. borders in support of counter-narcotic activities of law enforcement agencies. Ocasio-Cortez Goes on Crazy Trump Rant, Makes Holocaust Comparison

U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., continues to ignite outrage while defending freshman colleague Rep. Ilhan Omar, this time by using a poem about the Holocaust to defend the Minnesota Democrat. . .

Ocasio-Cortez slammed President Donald Trump, who shared a grim video featuring Omar’s remarks alongside footage of the Twin Towers being attacked.

“Members of Congress have a duty to respond to the President’s explicit attack today,” Ocasio-Cortez tweeted Friday. “@IlhanMN’s life is in danger. For our colleagues to be silent is to be complicit in the outright, dangerous targeting of a member of Congress. We must speak out.”

She also shared an image of the words of “First they came … ,” the famous poem by German theologian Martin Niemöller that was inspired by the tragedies of the Holocaust. (The words are mounted on a wall at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington.) . . .

Ocasio-Cortez’s tweet sparked major backlash, with critics accusing her of trivializing the Holocaust and slamming her for doing so in defense of Omar, who has repeatedly fought off claims of anti-Semitism. (Read more from “Ocasio-Cortez Goes on Crazy Trump Rant, Makes Holocaust Comparison” HERE)
