Hmm: Meghan McCain for Senate?

Over the coming days, Americans will continue to pay tribute to the late Sen. John McCain, who died on Saturday after a protracted battle with cancer. McCain, a decorated and extraordinary war hero and the Republican Party’s 2008 presidential nominee, was 81 years old. (I commented briefly on McCain’s life and legacy in Friday’s week-in-review post, published shortly after his family revealed that the Senator had chosen to cease medical treatment). Under Arizona law, Gov. Doug Ducey will appoint McCain’s replacement, who will serve until the next qualifying general election — in this case, 2020. Ducey, quite rightly, has declined to publicly discuss his decision at this time out of respect, telling the Arizona Republic that the issue is effectively tabled until Sen. McCain is laid to rest:

Gov. Doug Ducey will wait to name a successor to John McCain until after the late senator has been buried at the U.S. Naval Academy Cemetery in Maryland, an aide to the governor told The Arizona Republic on Saturday. “Out of respect for the life and legacy of Senator John McCain and his family, Governor Ducey will not be making any announcements about an appointment until after the Senator is laid to rest,” Ducey’s senior adviser Daniel Ruiz II said in a statement. “Now is a time for remembering and honoring a consequential life well lived.”

. . .

From the Republican Party’s perspective, it would probably be most helpful for Ducey to select an up-and-coming figure within the GOP ranks, thus helping that person build and burnish his or her credentials in advance of a 2020 run in an increasingly competitive state. It’s also possible that Ducey could view this role as that of a place-holder or caretaker, in which case, former Sen. Kyl would be a sensible and sterling pick. Kyl, by the way, is currently acting as Brett Kavanaugh’s Senate ‘sherpa.’ By going this direction, Ducey would avoid putting his thumb on the scale in advance of an eventual 2020 primary, a show of favoritism that could potentially alienate certain factions within the party in the lead-up to the governor’s own active re-election push. As for the rumors that Mrs. McCain is in the mix — and a Senate wife getting appointed to fill a seat is hardly groundbreaking — I shared this thought on Twitter yesterday:

Many people reacted negatively to this idea, citing concerns about dynastic politics. As noted above, I share those concerns. My point is that if the governor decides that he’s inclined to appoint a McCain to fill this seat until the next general election, my preference would be Meghan. (She meets the Senate age threshold, but I’m not sure if she meets any applicable Arizona residency requirements). This is not a criticism of Cindy whatsoever; I just do not know much about her ideology. Meghan, by contrast, has really found her voice as a conservative media commentator, exhibiting fearlessness and tenacity on the set of a show that is often politically hostile to her worldview. She, like her father, is a Trump skeptic in some respects — but she frequently stuck up for the president on Fox, and has done so at The View, as well, much to the chagrin or Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, and most of the live audience. Here’s What Happened When City Tried a Big Gov’t Solution for Homelessness

In October 2015, the city of Portland, Oregon, decided to simply provide shelter to every single homeless family that asked for it. The plan backfired. . .

But by the end of 2017, the program was in a crisis. There weren’t enough shelter providers to handle the influx of homeless from outside the city and the county.

Rather than solving homelessness, the program spent all the resources the government had allocated to it, and not accomplished their goal.

The budget for the program exploded when it began to provide motel rooms for homeless families that they could not place in shelters. . .

Despite the “no-turn-away shelter strategy” failing spectacularly, the lawmakers say that the lesson they learned is that in order for it to work, it has to be adopted state-wide, and even nationally.

Revealed: Big Majority of Americans Side With Trump, Not the Media, on Security Clearances

Americans are backing President Donald Trump’s decision to revoke the security clearance of former CIA Director John Brennan.

In a new Harvard CAPS/Harris poll, 59 percent of registered voters think Brennan should have lost his security clearance. Another 64 percent said that former FBI Director James Comey and others at the FBI who were fired or demoted for their actions should lose their clearances, The Hill reports.

On the broad question of whether former national security officials who become consultants and TV pundits should keep their security clearances, 60 percent of registered voters said they should lose them.

“An overwhelming majority of the public thinks that former officials should lose their security clearance, and believe that former officials like Brennan and Coney should no longer have any clearance,” said Harvard CAPS/Harris Poll co-director Mark Penn.

“There would definitely be support for a wholesale policy revoking their clearances,” he added.

President Trump was viciously attacked in the media as a “dictator” who was attacking free speech after he pulled Brennan’s security clearance. This new poll confirms that most Americans don’t listen to and don’t care about the liberal media echo chamber. Fox News Poll Has Bad News for GOP

A new poll conducted by Fox News has disturbing news for the GOP: when Fox News asked respondents, “If the election for Congress were held today, would you vote for the Democratic candidate in your district or the Republican candidate in your district?”, 44% of men chose Democrats and 44% chose the GOP, but among women, 53% chose Democrats while only 34% chose the GOP.

Measured in total, 49% of respondents said they would be more likely to vote for a Democrat than a Republican in their district; only 38% said they would be more likely to vote for a GOP candidate.

President Trump’s approval/disapproval rating was underwater, at 45%-53%. The highest approval rating Fox has had for Trump this year came in February, when his approval/disapproval rating was 48%-47%. Men approve of Trump by a 52%-47% margin; women disapprove by a much larger 60%-38% margin. (Read more from “Fox News Poll Has Bad News for GOP” HERE)

Leftists Push Gun Control After Florida Shooting. Then Facts Come Out.

. . .Predictably, pro-gun control politicians and activists instantly politicized the shooting before any details were confirmed by law enforcement officials because it is often in that window of time — when the facts are unknown — that gun control advocates are able to advance their agenda the furthest.

The shooter had also been hospitalized twice as a teenager in psychiatric facilities for mental health issues, according to the Associated Press — which also noted that he “was prescribed anti-psychotic and anti-depressant medications.” . . .

It is currently unknown how the shooter was able to purchase the two firearms [in Baltimore] if he had been hospitalized multiple times for psychiatric issues. It is worth noting that if he voluntarily sought and entered treatment at a hospital for psychiatric issues, he most likely would not have been prohibited from purchasing firearms.

Transgender activist Charlotte Clymer tweeted a list of gun laws from the state of Florida which ended up being completely irrelevant as the shooter bought the firearms in Maryland:

Maryland has strict gun laws and the process for buying a handgun is complicated. A buyer must be fingerprinted with the Maryland State Police (MSP), must submit an application to MSP to receive a Handgun Qualification License (HQL card), must take a firearms safety course, must verify their HQL card to an FFL dealer, submit an ATF background check, and wait seven days before they’re able to purchase a single handgun. . .

BOMBSHELL: Lanny Davis Changes Story. CNN Caught in New Reporting Scandal.

Michael Cohen’s lawyer admitted on Monday that he was the anonymous source for a widely-criticized CNN report that claimed Cohen was willing to tell Special Counsel Robert Mueller that President Donald Trump knew in advance about the Trump Tower meeting in which Russians were expected to offer his campaign dirt on Hillary Clinton.

Cohen’s lawyer, Lanny Davis, told CNN’s Anderson Cooper last week that Cohen “does not” have any information that Trump knew about the meeting in advance, saying, “I think the reporting of the story got mixed up in the course of a criminal investigation. We were not the source of the story.”

However, Davis told BuzzFeed News on Monday that he was the source for CNN’s July 26 report — which directly contradicts what he told Cooper. . .

However, Davis admitting that he was the source for the report — which he has since stated was not true — was not the only development to come out of CNN’s report. BuzzFeed News notes:

The original CNN story — broadcast during Chris Cuomo’s prime-time show and written by Jim Sciutto, Marshall Cohen, and Watergate reporting legend Carl Bernstein — said that Davis had “declined to comment.” His involvement in the story, on so-called “background,” has not been previously reported.

Corey Lewandowski Reveals Important Warning He Gave to Trump Campaign

President Trump’s former campaign manager Corey Lewandowski said on “Fox News Sunday” that Michael Cohen didn’t play a role in the 2016 campaign, warning that he was “going to become a problem.”

“I didn’t like to work with Michael, I didn’t like to interact with Michael, and that’s why he had no role in the campaign, even when he wanted one,” he said. “I was very clear when I was in charge of the campaign, Michael was not somebody who we wanted at the campaign. He would go out and make statements that we had to walk back afterwards because he would say things which were factually untrue. I warned everybody at the organization that Michael was going to become a problem.”

Last week Cohen pleaded guilty to federal crimes, including bank fraud and tax evasion. . .

“There have been reports that you privately tried to get the president to back away from [Cohen],” said Fox News host Sandra Smith.

“You were warning [Trump] that [Cohen] was a loose cannon. But the president said at that time, at one point in time, that he was a good lawyer and he trusted him for a long time, now he’s calling him a flipper. So why did the president trust Michael Cohen as long as he did?” she asked. (Read more from “Corey Lewandowski Reveals Important Warning He Gave to Trump Campaign” HERE)

Top Democrats Show Their True Anti-American Colors

. . .New York Governor Andrew Cuomo slammed our great nation this week while attacking President Trump. “We’re not going to Make America Great Again,” Cuomo said. “It was never that great.”

Cuomo’s grossly offensive and unpatriotic comments are just the latest episode in a growing catalogue of anti-American words and deeds by Democrats.

One might be tempted to assume that this barely-concealed, if not celebrated, hatred of America was the sole preserve of a radical fringe of the Democratic Party. But one would be wrong. A recent poll found that fewer than a third — only 32 percent — of Democrats are proud to be Americans.

The Democrats’ anti-Americanism has been noticeable for some time. While campaigning for President, then-candidate Obama attacked two foundations of America — the right to bear arms and the Christian religion — and the patriots who cherish them. Working-class voters “get bitter, they cling to guns or religion,” he said.

Following his election, Michelle Obama remarked, “for the first time in my adult life, I am really proud of my country.” President Obama then proceeded to go on his infamous apology tour, slamming and slandering America in front of backward, barbaric societies across the world. Dems Call for Boycott of Huge Fast Food Chain Over Republican Donations, Chain Refuses to Back Down

By The Daily Caller. The California Democratic Party chair called Thursday for a boycott of burger chain In-N-Out because of a $25,000 donation that In-N-Out gave to the California Republican Party on Tuesday.

“Et tu In-N-Out?” state party Chair Eric Bauman wrote on Twitter Thursday. “Tens of thousands of dollars donated to the California Republican Party… it’s time to #BoycottInNOut – let Trump and his cronies support these creeps… perhaps animal style!”

The California-based chain now faces a host of customers tweeting with the hashtag #BoycottInNOut after a public filing detailing the donation was posted on Twitter by freelance journalist Gabe Schneider Wednesday.

In-N-Out donated a total of $60,000 to the California Republican Party in 2016 and 2017 for “general party expenses,” according to Los Angeles Magazine. But the corporation also donated $50,000 in 2018 to Californians for Jobs and a Strong Economy, a “political action committee that supports business-friendly Democratic candidates,” according to Forbes. In-N-Out Refuses to Back Down, Responds to Democrat Boycott Calls With Strong Statement

By The Daily Caller. After California Democratic Party Chair Eric Bauman called for a boycott of the restaurant chain for its donations to the California Republican Party, In-N-Out Burger Executive Vice President Arnie Wensinger responded with a statement defending the “fair and consistent approach” of “bipartisan support.”

“In 2018, In-N-Out Burger has made equal contributions to both Democratic and Republican Political Action Committees in the State of California,” Wensinger wrote on Thursday as he began his defense of a company that supports lawmakers not based on party affiliation but rather the promotion of “policies that strengthen California” and help the company provide “strong pay and great benefits” for its employees.

‘Diabolical and Evil’: Levin Unravels the ‘Insanity’ Being Used by the Left in the Hope of Impeaching Trump

Friday on the radio, LevinTV host Mark Levin decided to help “unravel matters, as the insanity swirls.”

Levin discussed the latest developments in the Michael Cohen matter and the allegations being thrown at President Donald Trump for purpose of impeachment. He reminded his audience that the president is not going to be charged with a crime while he remains in office.

“As a legal matter, it’s of zero consequence … the Department of Justice acknowledges, as does the special counsel, that a sitting president cannot be indicted,” Levin said. “So as a legal matter, it’s irrelevant.”

Listen:

Levin explained that because Trump cannot be indicted, he will not have a chance to defend himself in a court of law. Trump will be tried in the media instead, and the Democrats will use special counsel Robert Mueller’s report to make the case for impeachment.

“What’s happened here is diabolical and evil,” Levin said. (Read more from “‘Diabolical and Evil’: Levin Unravels the ‘Insanity’ Being Used by the Left in the Hope of Impeaching Trump” please click HERE)
