Former presidential candidate Dr. Ben Carson stunned many when he endorsed Donald Trump for president. Just a few days later, Carson admitted he would not only be advising Trump during the presidential campaign, but could also play a possible role in a Trump administration.
Many speculated this would mean a cabinet position for the retired neurosurgeon, who has displayed a wealth of knowledge both in medicine and education. Yet it seems these speculations might have underestimated Carson.
Today it was announced that members of Carson’s campaign team are planning to meet in Palm Beach, Fla., to discuss the possibility of a Trump/Carson ticket.
The meeting, which will take place March 29, will include Ben Carson Jr., former Carson campaign chairman Robert Dees, ex-campaign manager Ed Brookover, treasurer Logan Delaney, and former senior adviser Mike Murray.
Brookover has recently joined the Trump campaign to lead a “delegate selection team,” suggesting the two sides have a strong working relationship.

Mitt Romney, the Republican nominee for President in 2012, will vote for Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) in Utah’s primary election next week.
Outlining the decision Friday in a Facebook post, Romney cited his desire to vote for the best possible candidate to beat current GOP frontrunner Donald Trump, writing:
“This week, in the Utah nominating caucus, I will vote for Senator Ted Cruz.
Today, there is a contest between Trumpism and Republicanism. Through the calculated statements of its leader, Trumpism has become associated with racism, misogyny, bigotry, xenophobia, vulgarity and, most recently, threats and violence. I am repulsed by each and every one of these.
The only path that remains to nominate a Republican rather than Mr. Trump is to have an open convention. At this stage, the only way we can reach an open convention is for Senator Cruz to be successful in as many of the remaining nominating elections as possible.
I like Governor John Kasich. I have campaigned with him. He has a solid record as governor. I would have voted for him in Ohio. But a vote for Governor Kasich in future contests makes it extremely likely that Trumpism would prevail.
I will vote for Senator Cruz and I encourage others to do so as well, so that we can have an open convention and nominate a Republican.”

House Select Committee on Benghazi Chairman Rep. Trey Gowdy, R-S.C., has responded to the refusal by some Democrats to maintain the integrity of his committee’s work by refusing to give them documents the Democrats have threatened to leak.
Gowdy sought an assurance from Rep. Elijah Cummings, D-Md., that Democrats would agree not to leak important information from the hearings. He did not get it.
“As recently as this afternoon, I offered Mr. Cummings total, unfettered access to, and control of, transcripts if he simply agreed he would not selectively leak them. He would not give me that assurance,” Gowdy said in a statement.
Gowdy said Democrats had threatened to release transcripts from witnesses that included White House National Security Adviser Susan Rice, Deputy National Security Adviser Ben Rhodes, former Defense Secretary Leon Panetta and former CIA director David Petraeus.
“Once they stated their intention to misuse transcripts, I could not in good faith allow them to do so. Mr. Cummings likes to frequently lecture people how ‘we’re better than this,’ but his actions and the actions of his staff with regards to this investigation unfortunately prove otherwise,” Gowdy said.

One of the top human-rights advocates in Congress is applauding Secretary of State John Kerry for labeling ISIS atrocities as genocide, but he says the designation should have come much sooner, and there is evidence the Obama administration is deliberately concealing the horrific human-rights records of other nations in order to advance other priorities.
This week, the House of Representatives unanimously passed a resolution declaring ISIS guilty of genocide. Kerry followed on Thursday by delivering the genocide verdict that some have been begging for for years.
“I and others have been asking for almost three years that such a designation be made. It was very clear right from the start. I had a hearing back in 2013 and made it clear that Christians especially are being targeted for forced conversion. If they don’t convert to Islam they are killed, raped, beheaded and have other atrocities committed upon them,” said U.S. Rep. Chris Smith, R-N.J., a top member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee and chairman of its human-rights subcommittee.
He says the genocide has been obvious a long time.
Smith is now demanding to know what the administration plans to do about the genocide. But he worries the existing Obama track record on human-rights abuses elsewhere around the world is proof that it’s just not a high priority. Holmes said he was inspired to include the stipulation for a few reasons, including the fact that he doesn’t want to share a roof with Trump sympathizers who subscribe to Trump’s rhetoric, which has included controversial comments about banning Muslims from the country, building a wall to keep out illegal immigrants and encouraging violence at his rallies. Google in 2012 sought to help insurgents overthrow Syrian President Bashar Assad, according to State Department emails receiving fresh scrutiny this week.
Messages between former secretary of state Hillary Clinton’s team and one of the company’s executives detailed the plan for Google to get involved in the region.
“Please keep close hold, but my team is planning to launch a tool … that will publicly track and map the defections in Syria and which parts of the government they are coming from,” Jared Cohen, the head of what was then the company’s “Google Ideas” division, wrote in a July 2012 email to several top Clinton officials.
“Our logic behind this is that while many people are tracking the atrocities, nobody is visually representing and mapping the defections, which we believe are important in encouraging more to defect and giving confidence to the opposition,” Cohen said, adding that the plan was for Google to surreptitiously give the tool to Middle Eastern media.
“Given how hard it is to get information into Syria right now, we are partnering with Al-Jazeera who will take primary ownership over the tool we have built, track the data, verify it, and broadcast it back into Syria,” he said. Cliven Bundy, the Nevada rancher who led an infamous standoff with the federal government in 2014, was denied bail in federal court and will remain behind bars as he awaits trial on charges that he threatened, assaulted and conspired against law enforcement.
US judge Carl Hoffman Jr ruled at a hearing in Las Vegas on Thursday that Bundy, 69, would pose a danger to the public if he was released, according to Natalie Collins, spokeswoman for the US attorney’s office.
The rancher, who become the unofficial leader of the anti-government land-use rights movement in the west after his high-profile conflict with federal officials, was previously denied bail in Portland, Oregon, where he was arrested last month.
Bundy had for years refused to pay grazing fees to the government to allow his cattle to use public lands. The dispute escalated in 2014 when officials attempted to seize his cattle, sparking an armed conflict that drew hundreds of supporters to his ranch in Bunkerville, 80 miles north of Las Vegas.

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) is facing what may be the toughest reelection of his Senate career in an unpredictable presidential year, when many voters are angry with Washington.
Early polls show McCain tied with his Democratic challenger, Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick (D-Ariz.), at around 40 percent despite having nearly 100-percent name recognition in the state he has represented in either the Senate or House since 1983.
“The basic problem for John McCain is the same kind of thing that faces a lot of incumbents right now. He’s been there a long time. People are leery of Washington. They don’t like Washington,” said former Republican Rep. Jim Kolbe, who served 18 years alongside McCain in Arizona’s congressional delegation . . .
McCain’s path to victory is complicated by the likelihood the GOP ticket will be headed by Donald Trump, who has an overwhelmingly negative rating among Hispanic voters, a powerful and growing electoral bloc in Arizona.
Trump has scheduled three events in Arizona Saturday with an eye on the winner-take-all presidential primary Tuesday. By Jack Davis. A new poll of New York State voters has devastated the theory that the demise of Marco Rubio’s candidacy could somehow transform the dynamics of Donald Trump’s dominance in the Republican president contest. In fact, it shows him getting stronger.
A poll by Boston’s Emerson College, taken earlier this week as the Florida senator was fading away, shows Trump with what Emerson College Polling Society adviser Spencer Kimball called a “commanding lead.” New York’s GOP primary is April 19.
Trump polled 64 percent of the support in the poll, 52 points ahead of Sen. Ted Cruz at 12 percent. Rubio, who suspended his campaign Tuesday night, about midway through the polling cycle, received 4 percent support. Ohio Gov. John Kasich only garnered 1 percent support.
“Trump has the highest favorable ratings with GOP voters, 71%/23%, followed by Cruz at 52%/44% and Kasich at 54%/34%,” according to a press release announcing the poll results. “Consistent with other primaries, Trump supporters are the most loyal, with 89% of those who see him favorably planning to cast their ballot for him. In contrast, only 21% of Republicans who have a favorable opinion of Cruz say they will vote for him.”

Trump Still Holds 15-Point Lead Over Cruz
By Rasmussen Reports. Support for all three of the remaining Republican candidates has grown with the narrowing of the field, but Donald Trump still holds a double-digit lead over both his rivals for the GOP presidential nomination.
The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey of Likely Republican Primary Voters finds Trump with 43% support to Senator Ted Cruz’s 28% and Ohio Governor John Kasich’s 21%. Just five percent (5%) of GOP voters like some other candidate, and three percent (3%) remain undecided.
In our last survey of the Republican field just after the February 20 South Carolina Primary and Jeb Bush’s departure from the race, Florida Senator Marco Rubio and Dr. Ben Carson were still in the running. At that time, it was Trump 36%, Rubio 21%, Cruz 17%, Kasich 12% and Carson with eight percent (8%) GOP support.
Despite Trump’s wins in most of the state primaries since then, all three of the candidates have experienced similar gains in support, but the billionaire businessman still holds a 15-point lead over his closest rival. Carson has endorsed Trump; the other candidates who have left the race over the past month have not thrown their support to anyone else at this point. Sanders Fights for Life as Clinton Wins Another State, Obama Turns Screws

Bernie Sanders, still insisting he has a fighting chance to capture the Democratic presidential nomination, ratcheted up his campaign schedule Friday to hit all three Western states voting next week as he scrambles to recover from Hillary Clinton’s recent five-state sweep – while President Obama applies pressure from the outside on the Vermont senator’s underdog bid.
Overnight, Clinton was declared the winner of the last remaining unresolved primary from Tuesday’s five contests, in Missouri. Sanders said he won’t seek a recount in the tight race.
But, speaking with the Associated Press, he maintained he can still close the delegate gap.
“I don’t believe they have an insurmountable lead,” Sanders said Thursday from Arizona, where he was campaigning. “Secretary Clinton has done phenomenally well in the Deep South and in Florida. That’s where she has gotten the lion’s share of votes. And I congratulate her for that.
