DHS Secretly Videotaping Citizens to Do This

Traveling through the T. F. Green Airport of Providence, Rhode Island?

If so, the Department of Homeland Security may be collecting video of you as part of a project to sniff out behavioral indicators of “malicious intent” . . .

On Tuesday, the DHS quietly released online a “privacy impact assessment” that provides the legal justification for an ongoing experiment it is calling “Data Collection for the Centralized Hostile Intent Project.”

The 14-page document, reviewed in full by WND, reveals the DHS’ Science and Technology Directorate will conduct an exercise at the Providence airport at an undisclosed date.

The DHS is planning to collect video images at designated areas throughout the airport, including at TSA security checkpoints, ticket counters, baggage claim and the airport entrance. No audio will be recorded at any time, states the document. (Read more from “DHS Secretly Videotaping Citizens to Do This” HERE)

Hack the Vote: Cyber Experts Say Ballot Machines Remain Easy Targets

The recent cyber theft of millions of personnel records from the federal government was sophisticated and potentially crippling, but hackers with just rudimentary skills could easily do even more damage by targeting voting machines, according to security experts.

Voter fraud is nearly as old as elections themselves, and different states and precincts use different voting systems and machines. But in many cases, even the electronic ballots could be manipulated remotely, according to a new report by the Commonwealth Security and Risk Management for the Virginia Information Technologies Agency. That report found that the AVS WINVote machines Virginia has used since 2002 have such flimsy security that an amateur hacker could change votes from outside a polling location.

“This means anyone could have broken into the machines from the parking lot,” said Cris Thomas, a strategist with the Columbia, Md.-based Tenable Network Security, one of the nation’s leading cyber and enterprise security firms. “Our entire democracy depends on systems with minimal, easily bypassed security.”

The report was commissioned after one precinct in Virginia reported “unusual activity with some of the devices used to capture votes,” during last November’s statewide elections.

“Security deficiencies were identified in multiple areas, including physical controls, network access, operating system controls, data protection, and the voting tally process,” the report found. “The combination of critical vulnerabilities in these areas, along with the ability to remotely modify votes discretely, is considered to present a significant risk. This heightened level of risk has led VITA security staff to conclude that malicious third party could be able to alter votes on these devices. These machines should not remain in service.” (Read more from “Hack the Vote: Cyber Experts Say Ballot Machines Easy Targets” HERE)

American Teenager Pleads Guilty to Helping ISIS

A 17-year-old from Virginia pleaded guilty in court on Thursday to charges of conspiring to help Islamic State militants, the first time the United States has prosecuted a minor as an adult in such a case.

Ali Amin, of Manassas, Virginia, used Twitter and his blog to provide instructions on how to use the virtual currency Bitcoin to send funds to the militants, according to court documents.

Prosecutors said Amin also helped another Virginia resident, Reza Niknejad, to travel to Syria to join the group that has taken control of areas of Iraq and Syria over the past year in a campaign marked by mass killings and beheadings.

The SITE monitoring service, which follows social media postings by Jihadist militants, said Amin had some 4,000 Twitter followers and was in communication with well-known Islamic State fighters and recruiters.

SITE said on his site he displayed a picture of the White House topped with an Islamic State black flag and included a note that the site was “dedicated to raising awareness about the upcoming conquest of the Americas.” (Read more from “American Teenager Pleads Guilty to Helping ISIS” HERE)

Ben Carson Scoffs at Gay Civil Rights Argument: They Never Had Separate Water Fountains [+video]

Ben Carson edged back into the fray over gay rights Wednesday night when he used a Fox News interview to criticize liberals trying to put same-sex marriage on the same moral plane as the civil rights movement.

During the interview Fox host Bret Baier asked Carson about comments he made during an earlier interview with CNN’s Chris Cuomo, when he suggested homosexuality is a preference, not a biological trait.

Carson explained that the CNN interview had “irritated” him, because Cuomo continually tried to portray the gay rights movement as analogous with the civil rights struggles of the 1960s.

[Dr. Carson discusses gay civil rights argument and describes his earlier comment suggesting that homosexuals are not born that way, “boneheaded”]

“Quite frankly, I didn’t remember any times when there were signs up that says, you know, ‘everybody else here and gay people have to drink at this fountain,’” Carson told Baier.

Carson speculated that the CNN quote received so much play in the news because the liberal media was eager to get a conservative, black Republican out of the race. (Read more from “Ben Carson Scoffs at Gay Civil Rights Argument: They Never Had Separate Water Fountains” HERE)

CNN Host Takes Shocking Stand Against Left – Here’s How Liberals Responded

Don Lemon, the often left-leaning host of CNN Tonight, offered some introspective thoughts about modern liberalism in a recent appearance on Black America Web. He began by offering a short test allowing listeners to determine if they are too politically correct.

“Do you allow room in your space for those who disagree with you?” he asked. “Do you ever call your coworkers or someone you don’t even know, someone you overhear talking, or even the person on the radio, the person on the TV – do you ever call them stupid because you disagree with them or because they don’t hold your same opinion about an issue?”

If the answer to any of those questions is yes, he advised, “then you might be too politically correct for your own good – for society’s good.”

Lemon went on to cite the recent remarks of high-profile comedians – a profession he said is populated by “the most outspoken people on the planet” – regarding the insurmountable level of political correctness on American college campuses.

“Political correctness has become dangerous,” he warned. “We have to stop looking for reasons to be offended. We have to allow people leeway to make mistakes in conversations without calling them racists, bigots, stupid, dumb, sellouts or whatever your word choice may be – on and on” . . .

Social media criticism of his remarks soon followed, fulfilling one Twitter user’s prophesy:

Obama: Trade Bill Will Advance One of My Highest Priorities, Climate Change

In an interview with American Public Media’s Marketplace, President Obama says fast-tracking the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) trade bill would help him advance his climate change agenda, which he said is “one of my highest priorities.”

During the interview with host Kai Ryssdal of Marketplace, Obama said, “If we want to solve something like climate change, which is one of my highest priorities, then I’ve got to be able to get into places like Malaysia, and say to them, this is in your interest.”

“What leverage do I have to get them to stop deforestation?” he asked. “Well part of the leverage is, if I’m in a trade relationship with them, that allows me to raise standards, now they have to start thinking about how quick they’re chopping down their forests and what kinds of standards they need to apply to environmental conservation.”

“So, we have to engage, not withdraw,” the president stated.

Obama is in a struggle, however, with fellow Democrats who argue the measure will harm U.S. workers and give the upper hand to big business. During the interview, he specifically pointed to the “mistake” his “progressive friends” are making in not supporting fast-tracking the measure. Special Report: Three Shocking Immigration Trends [+video]

Pictures are worth a thousand words. Here are three charts that demonstrate just how absurd the elitist premise is as it relates to our immigration system. It is incontrovertibly clear that America has never seen anything close to the transformational degree of immigration we’ve had over the past couple of decades, and to an even larger extent, the projected trajectory of the next half-century.

Chart 1: Record Immigration on Top of Record Immigration

If one were to spend an entire lifetime in the sterile confines of Washington policy briefings, they would come away with the impression that this country admits very few immigrants. After all, everyone in Washington believes that immigration must be vastly increased across the board.

However, the reality cannot be further from the truth and is evident to anyone who steps outside the insular world of the political elites. For most Americans, stories like the Wichita, Kansas school district, where 81 languages are spoken as a result of the massive influx of immigrants and refugees, is not some anomalous hype; it is a reminder that America is no longer the melting pot that has made this country great.

One of the stalest of stale bromides among the political class is that “we are a nation of immigrants.” As Mark Levin recently clarified, “we are not a nation of immigrants, we are a nation of citizens.” Only a country in its initial stages is primarily a country of immigrants. Obviously, we welcome immigrants to become part of the melting pot and become citizens, but the notion that America was a nation of immigrants as an end to itself is simply not true.

At no point in our history did America even come close to accepting this many immigrants over such a short period of time. Over the 25-year period from 1989-2013, the U.S. has admitted 25.3 million immigrants. During a comparable 25-year period at the height of the Great Wave, from 1900-1924, only 16.8 million green cards were issued. And remember, this period was followed by several decades of very low immigration, which one could argue helped contribute to the successful assimilation of the immigrants from the turn of the century. It’s no wonder none other than Harry Reid was appalled by the unprecedented level of immigration back in 1993. Yet, 22 million immigrants and 12-15 illegal aliens later, he is completely silent.

Even as a percentage of the total population, we are approaching the all-time highest level of foreign-born residents – a level that was only seen when the country was still young and taking root. But over the next few decades, the level of immigration will rise so precipitously that nearly one in every five residents will be an immigrant.

Moreover, a number of individual states already have over 20% foreign born population, with California topping 27%. Some of these states could easily become majority foreign born by 2060.

Remember, this projection is all based on the current trajectory under existing law – assuming no “gang of 8 style” amnesty bill passes Congress to double immigration and grow chain migration through amnesty of illegal immigrants. After the more successful first great wave of immigration, Congress enacted a near complete shutoff of immigration for a few decades. Nobody is advocating that now, but the political class wants to double or triple the current baseline. Were something like that to become reality, the 2060 scenario will play out much earlier than predicted. Nobody in the political class will ever offer a coherent understanding of how this eventuality will preserve America as a harmonious society.

Chart 2: Explosion of Hispanic Immigration

The apologists for illegal immigration often assert that the crisis is the result of a “broken immigration system” and no viable path to legal immigration. What they glaringly omit is that the primary source of illegal immigration is from Mexico and Latin American countries – the region that has benefited from our legal immigration system in an unparalleled way. In fact, 50% of all immigrants since 1965 have come from Latin America–29% from Mexico alone. Over the past 44 years, 6.65 million people have emigrated from Mexico legally compared to 4.5 million who emigrated from Italy – the previous record-breaking country of origin – from 1880-1929.

The Hispanic share of the American population has gone from just 3.5% in 1960 and 8.8% in 1990 to 17.4% today, topping out at 56 million in raw numbers. According to the Census, by 2060 that number will reach 28.6% of the population. Among those under 18 years of age, Hispanics will then account for 33% of youth. That is one out of every three individuals. Hispanics already comprise 39% of California’s population and are expected to become an absolute majority between 2050-2060. Again, this is under current trajectory with existing law, not the suggested path of the political elites.

While the Hispanic culture, much like other great civilizations helps enrich this country, no other group has ever been granted this degree of destiny over the future of the country. This is not even a salad bowl anymore, much less a melting pot. This is not diversity; it’s an irrevocable transformation of America. Yet, among the political class there is near unanimity of opinion that this eventuality is not enough.

The cost of unprecedented immigration on our school system is incalculable. According to a recent study by the Center for Immigration Studies, a record 61.8 million, or 1 in 5 U.S. residents, speak a language other than English at home. Thirty-seven million residents speak Spanish at home and there are 708 counties where more than 10% of the population speaks Spanish at home. Another recent Pew study shows that in 17 states Latino children account for over 20% of the kindergarten enrollment in public schools. California Governor Jerry Brown claims that 30% of schoolchildren in his state are either “undocumented or don’t speak English.”

Has anyone explained what these numbers will look like in a few decades under the current trajectory? Has anyone ascertained the consequences of accelerating that trend line by passing more open borders legislation?

In 2001, Michael Barone, then an advocate for more liberal immigration policies, predicted that Hispanics would become assimilated and economically successful like the Italians and eastern European immigrants of a century ago. Last year, he recanted that prediction, noting that the rationale for most immigration from Mexico, coupled with the new policies of special privileged minority status, have worked against his previously held assumption.

While his observations are astute and undoubtedly accurate, it is also true that numbers matter. And at some point the sheer number of immigrants clustered from any single region creates a phenomenon of reverse assimilation.

Chart 3: America Admits 20% of the World’s International Migrants

The U.S. takes in a lot of immigrants, but how do they stack up against other countries? Pew has the numbers based on 2010 data and it is clear that not only does the U.S. admit more immigrants than any other country, it takes in 20% of all international migrants, even though the U.S. comprises just 4% of the global population.

Conclusion

What the political elites will never understand is that America is not merely a labor market or a spreadsheet of GDP projections. America is a nation of citizens united by a common cause in pursuit of shared values.

When the country was founded, George Washington always spoke of a nation of citizens united behind a common culture and a common cause in pursuit of liberty. This desire was punctuated by a series of letters Washington wrote to religious minority groups (Catholics, Jews, and some Protestant denominations), culminating with his 1790 letter to the Hebrew Congregation in Newport, Rhode Island, when he noted that all citizens of the United States “possess alike liberty of conscience and immunities of citizenship.”

With an ideal antithetical to the multiculturalism and balkanization of today’s progressive America, Washington laid out a vision of American citizenship and pride of patriotism as follows in his Farwell address:

“Citizens, by birth or choice, of a common country, that country has a right to concentrate your affections. The name of American, which belongs to you, in your national capacity, must always exalt the just pride of Patriotism, more than any appellation derived from local discriminations. With slight shades of difference, you have the same religion, manners, habits, and political principles. You have in a common cause fought and triumphed together; the Independence and Liberty you possess are the work of joint counsels, and joint efforts, of common dangers, sufferings, and successes.”

Immigration, especially at this juncture in time, when followed prudently and gradually can enrich this culture of common cause in pursuit of liberty. But when immigration policy is prosecuted in such an impetuous, irresponsible, and precipitous fashion that there is no longer a common cause – that there is no longer patriotic assimilation – the America George Washington sought to establish will no longer exist. Iraq War Vet Outraged After Being Told He Can’t Fly American Flag at Home

An Iraq War veteran says he has no plans to remove the American flag from his front porch after his homeowners association told him it has to come down.

Daniel Toner, who rents a home in the Belmont Park community of Suffolk, Virginia, said he was first told the flag was OK, but then was informed that it had to be approved and Toner would have to wait to put it up.

Toner told WAVY-TV he knew the homeowners association had certain regulations, so he contacted the property manager at Chesapeake Bay Management Inc. before he brought out the flag to make sure everything was above board.

He received an email back saying it was acceptable to fly a flag from his house as long as he followed the guidelines. But not long after, he received another message telling him to take it down.

Property manager Kimberly Katz admitted to speaking too early in the previous email, and said a resolution that would have made it acceptable to fly a flag had not yet been approved. (Read more from “Iraq War Vet Outraged After Being Told He Can’t Fly American Flag at Home” HERE)

After Two Decades of Attendance, Army Now Refuses to Provide Honor Guard for Church’s July 4th Celebration

Photo Credit: Abilene Baptist ChurchFor nearly two decades, the U.S. Army has provided an honor guard for an Independence Day celebration at a Baptist church that predates the founding of the nation. But this year – that tradition has come to an end.

Officials at Fort Gordon say they will not be able to send an honor guard to a July 5th service at Abilene Baptist Church because it violates a military policy banning any involvement in a religious service.

“While there are conditions under which the Army can participate in events conducted at a house of worship, we cannot participate in the context of a religious service,” Public Affairs Officer J.C. Mathews told me.

He said officials at Fort Gordon as well as the Office of the Staff Judge Advocate reviewed the church’s request and determined they were in fact holding a “religious service” . . .

That policy would be an offense to most churches in America – but it is especially offensive when you consider the Army just refused to provide an honor guard for a church whose first pastor was a chaplain in the Revolutionary Army. Senate Panel Defends Taxpayer Funding for Palestinian Terrorists [+video]

What are we doing to fight Islamic terror?

This is a pressing question for most Americans, especially given that Obama has no strategy. But why not start with a simple proposition? Let’s not fund terror with American taxpayer dollars.

Yet, astoundingly, a bipartisan group of Republicans and Democrats voted yesterday to preserve foreign aid to the so-called Palestinian government. While marking up an authorization bill for a number of programs within the State Department, Sen Rand Paul (R-KY) offered an amendment to eliminate aid to the Islamic terror entity known as the Palestinian Authority (it sounds nicer than their authentic name, the Palestinian Liberation Organization). Sadly, only four other Republicans joined with him in supporting the amendment: Sens. Risch (ID), Gardner (CO), Barrasso (WY) and Rubio (FL). Every Democrat on the Foreign Relations Committee, along with GOP Sens. Corker (TN), Johnson (WI), Flake (AZ), Purdue (GA), and Isakson (GA), voted to continue funding the terrorists.

According to the Congressional Research Service, we have sent roughly $5 billion to the Palestinian government since the mid-1990s. Our annual aid has fluctuated, but has hovered around $500 million per year. The worst practices in the modern world of jihad have been taught to the Arab world by these people, yet our taxpayer dollars and military training have gone into propping up this violent “government.”

While some conservatives feel Sen. Paul is weak on U.S. policy with Iran, he has been much tougher than most Republicans when it comes to Palestinian terrorists. Paul released the following statement after his amendment was defeated:

“American tax dollars continue to flow to governments that openly seek the destruction of one of our nation’s biggest allies, Israel. My support has not and will not waiver; I will continue pushing to cut off all U.S. foreign aid to the Palestinian Authority until they recognize Israel’s right to exist as a Jewish state, renounce terrorism, and purge terrorists from their ranks.”

Paul is absolutely correct. The much-vaunted Mahmoud Abbas, who is regarded as an Angel of Peace among the “international community,” has consistently refused to recognize Israel’s right to exist and has consistently told his people they will continue to struggle until “all of Palestine is liberated.” A post on the official Facebook page of Abbas’ Fatah faction showed a picture of terrorists in the military wings of Fatah, Hamas and Islamic Jihad, under the banner of “brothers-in-arms: one God, one homeland, one enemy, one goal.”

So how could the committee members, led by Sens. Bob Corker (R-TN) and Ben Cardin (D-MD), agree to continue aid to Arafat’s terror group, even as they have joined in a unity government with Hamas? Aren’t we ostensibly sending money to those who are formally designated as terrorists by our own State Department? And remember, it’s pretty hard to get on the State Department’s terror list.

During the markup, Corker said he opposed the amendment because it would undermine the “Palestinian Authority” and risk destabilizing the “West Bank.”

This assertion cannot be farther from the truth. The so-called Palestinian government has been given more global aid per capita than any other country or entity, yet it is still a corrupt, terror-laden basket case. The entire purpose of keeping the bucks flowing into the Fatah-Hamas coffers is to create an Arab-Palestinian state in Judea and Samaria, what Corker erroneously refers to as the “West Bank” (hearkening back to Jordan’s illegal occupation in 1949 of the area west of the Jordan River). There is no greater potential destabilizing event than the creation of such a state. If a Hamas-Fatah state is not bad enough, there is no doubt that, given its geographical proximity to the unstable Jordan and Syrian Golan, this region would fall to the Islamic State the minute Israel’s military pulls out of the area.

Consequently, any continued aid to the PLO will only buttress Obama’s inexorable attempt to create a terror state in one of the most sensitive parts of the Middle East. At the very least, Senate Republicans should have conditioned aid to the PLO on Obama not supporting their bid for statehood at the UN.

Unfortunately, we can’t even get the political elites to agree not to send taxpayer dollars to the most violent terrorists. Just this past year, the U.S. has shipped to the Lebanese army a number of weapons, including AGM-114 Hellfire II missiles, M198 Howitzers, Humvees, and tens of millions of rounds of ammunition. The Lebanese Army is nothing more than a puppet of Hezbollah, which is a proxy of Iran.

Hence, a reaffirmation of aid to both of Israel’s top enemies – Hezbollah and Hamas – in the same week.

Why are so few politicians concerned about this dangerous and immoral use of American taxpayer dollars?

Washington is indeed broken. (See “Senate Panel Defends Taxpayer Funding for Palestinian Terrorists”, originally posted HERE)
