Yes, Some People Will Have to Pay Back Their Obamacare Subsidies

Photo Credit: Reuters Obamacare offers subsidies to help pay for health insurance – if you are buying insurance through the federal exchange and your income qualifies. But now the word is out that at least 1 million people are probably getting the wrong subsidy amounts.

The Washington Post has inside sources providing all sorts of juicy details on this problem – but it didn’t take an investigative reporter to predict this was going to happen.

Heritage expert Alyene Senger warned that Obamacare’s subsidies are tied to income – and if your income changes at any point during the year, your subsidy is supposed to change, too. She explained in January:

if a person’s income fluctuates, which happens more frequently than many realize, the subsidy amount will change from month to month. Thus, when it comes time to file taxes in April, the amount of subsidy received over the past year must be reconciled with the final calculation of the total subsidy for which the individual was eligible—based on actual income for the entire tax year.

So if you qualify for more subsidy help than you receive during the year, you’ll get a tax refund. But if you were given more subsidy than your income qualifies you for, you will be required to repay the excess subsidy.

>>> Watch Heritage’s Alyene Senger on Fox News:

Now, the Post reports that the government is attempting to keep up with this – except that the part of Obamacare’s computer system that is supposed to match proof of income with people’s Obamacare applications is, well, not built yet.

Since taxpayers are funding the subsidies, it’s important to make sure the correct amounts are going to the correct people, right? Well, that does make the Obama administration “sensitive” these days, the Post says:

Beyond their concerns regarding overpayments, members of the Obama administration are sensitive because they promised congressional Republicans during budget negotiations last year that a thorough income-verification system would be in place.

This setup is a disaster. And it will ensnare a lot of people. Senger pointed to one analysis estimating that nearly 38 percent of families eligible for subsidies also experience “large income increases” at some point during the year – meaning they would have to pay back some or all of their subsidies.

“The issue is symptomatic of many problems that will plague the law in coming years,” Senger said.
Is it any wonder that 60 percent of voters in a recent poll said the debate about Obamacare is not over? And 89 percent said Obamacare will affect their voting decisions this fall.

Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal is right – Obamacare is still not the answer for America’s health care needs. It’s time for Congress to look at patient-centered alternatives that would restore choice to American health care – and stop the unending tales of Obamacare disaster.

Marine Jailed in Mexico Receives Order to Report to USMC Superiors

Photo Credit: Fox News It might be the first order U.S. Marine Sgt. Andrew Tahmooressi doesn’t obey.

The mother of the reservist, who is being held in a Mexican jail after mistakenly crossing the border with registered guns, told FoxNews.com her son just got an “Order to Muster” letter from the Marines telling Tahmooressi to report to the 4th Civil Affairs Group in Hialeah, Fla., on June 14. Although a Marine spokeswoman later told FoxNews.com that the corps is aware of Tahmooressi’s current circumstances and does not expect him to report, failure typically can result in “other than honorable discharge” and affect Veterans Administration benefits.

“You are among the elite citizens of our nation who, if needed, are ready to answer the call to defend our freedom,” reads the May 9 order written by Sgt. Maj. M.E. Sprague, which also reminds the recipient that, “Once a Marine, always a Marine.”

Jill Tahmooressi said the letter was the latest painful reminder of her son’s plight despite service to his country that includes two tours of duty in Afghanistan resulting in post-traumatic stress disorder. Tahmooressi was arrested March 31, after accidentally driving into Mexico with three legally purchased weapons in his truck.

A Marine Corps spokesman told FoxNews.com reservists on Individual Ready Reserve, as Tahmooressi is, are contractually required to attend the one-day session to have their physical readiness evaluated should they be recalled to active duty. The letter does not represent a call-up to active duty.

Pelosi Reluctantly Picks Her Team for House Benghazi Probe

Photo Credit: Fox NewsBy Fox News.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi on Wednesday reluctantly picked her team for a GOP-led Benghazi investigative committee, saying that Democrats’ participation was the only way to assure Americans of a “fair process.”

Pelosi appointed five fellow Democrats to the 12-member House select committee on Benghazi, including Maryland Rep. Elijah Cummings as the ranking member of the panel.

“We’ve already been there,” Pelosi said in naming the members, continuing to voice concerns about the probe while also ending weeks of speculation about whether her party would participate.

“Eight reviews have been conducted in the House and Senate, 25,000 documents released, millions of taxpayer dollars spent. It was not necessary to put the families or our country through this partisan exercise once again,” the California Democrat continued. “I could have argued either way.”

Cummings is also the top Democrat on the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, and is known to publicly spar with the chairman of that committee, GOP Rep. Darrell Issa. Pelosi also named Washington Rep. Adam Smith, the top Democrat on the House Armed Services Committee; California Rep. Adam Schiff, a member of the House Committee on Appropriations; California Rep. Linda Sanchez, a member of the House Committee on Ways and Means; and Illinois Rep. Tammy Duckworth, a member of the House Armed Services Committee.

By Susan Ferrechio.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calf., has named five Democrats to serve on a select panel that will investigate the Sept. 11, 2012, terrorist attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi.

Pelosi made the decision to appoint members after meeting Wednesday with House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, about the terms of how the panel will operate.

Pelosi has tapped Rep. Elijah Cummings, D-Md., who now serves as the top Democrat on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, which has held several hearings examining the Benghazi attack.

Pelosi also named Rep. Adam Smith, D-Wash., who is the House Armed Services Committee ranking member, Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., who serves on the House Intelligence Committee, Rep. Linda Sanchez, D-Calif., and Rep. Tammy Duckworth, D-Ill., an injured war veteran who serves on both the Armed Services and House Oversight panels.

Schiff previously argued Democrats should boycott the committee, telling “Fox News Sunday” it would be a “colossal waste of time.”

71 Arrested For Internet Child Porn In New York

Photo Credit: Jason DeCrow / AP
Officials in New York say they have arrested 71 people for possessing and trading child pornography via the Internet in what’s being described as the largest-ever such operation in the city.

Member station WNYC’s Annemarie Fertoli reports that the five-week investigation, called Operation Caireen, was led by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and yielded some 600 computers, tablets and smartphones containing thousands of images of children exchanged via peer-to-peer networks.

Special Agent James Hayes called the images depraved and shocking and said that the perpetrators weren’t just stereotypical drifters. “They worked as nurses, paramedics, caretakers for mentally ill adults, computer programmers and architects,” Hayes said. “One was an airline pilot, and one was a police officer.”

Harry Reid’s War on Conservative Speech

Photo Credit: TownHall Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has mentioned Charles and David Koch over 134 times from the floor of the Senate. Last week Sen. Reid announced that he would bring a constitutional amendment to the Senate floor that would allow Congress to set even more limits on political donations. Make no mistake, this isn’t a call to get “special interest money” out of politics. It is a directive from the most powerful man in the Senate to punish two private citizens for their beliefs and success.

In an interview with BuzzFeed, Senator Reid said, “The Koch Brothers, I’m not walking away from them. I’m going to be on their tail for the whole campaign because if they think Romney was watched closely by me, that’s nothing compared to what it’s going to be like with the Koch Brothers.”

In his call for the amendment on Thursday, Senator Reid made the false claim that this would “level the playing field” and “make campaigns fair.” But what is “fair”?

Is it fair that unions and liberal donors like George Soros and Tom Steyer aren’t singled out as, Reid called the Kochs, the greatest threats to America because they donate to political causes?

Is it fair for a government official to call people “un-American” because of their political beliefs?

Coulter: Statistical Analysis Shows 4 Percent Of New York Times Reporters Are Serial Killers

Photo Credit: Daily Caller The New York Times has been touting a study purporting to show that 4 percent of death row inmates have been “falsely convicted.” “Falsely convicted” is not “innocent.” But after being processed through the lawyer-to-journalist telephone game, “insignificant procedural errors” quickly becomes “27 guys didn’t do it!”

What the study actually shows is that those sentenced to death are more likely to have their convictions overturned than those sentenced to prison.

Yeah, we knew that. Anti-death penalty fanatics fight every execution tooth and claw. Sometimes they get lucky. What the statisticians have proved is that it’s very difficult to be executed in this country.

Most of the media cited this pointless study to proclaim that “statistical analysis” proves that 4 percent of people on death row are innocent. They just have to be! And if you disagree, you must hate science.

Whether innocent people have been executed is not a matter that lends itself to statistical analysis. We have the names of every person who has been executed — 1,373 since the death penalty was reinstated in 1976.

$1 Million Bounty to Be Offered for ‘Smoking Gun’ in IRS Targeting Scandal

Photo Credit: Voter’s TrustA nonprofit group hopes to award a $1 million bounty to anyone who can provide “smoking gun” evidence to implicate IRS leadership or members of the Obama administration who purposefully targeted conservative and tea party-affiliated groups, TheBlaze has learned.

Gregg Phillips, the managing director for The Voters Trust, a political nonprofit 501 (c)(4) which was established to identify and mobilize Americans, told TheBlaze on Wednesday “that this is the people’s bounty to seek the truth.”

Catherine Engelbrecht, president of the nonprofit group True the Vote, will be officially announcing the bounty Wednesday night on Megyn Kelly’s Fox News show, “The Kelly File” at 9 p.m. ET.

To qualify for the bounty, the person needs to provide “relevant evidence including emails, eye-witness accounts, or testimony of political targeting of Americans by the IRS or the Obama administration that has not previously been reported,” according to an official press release from the group obtained by TheBlaze.

Phillips said the evidence must lead directly to the arrest and conviction those responsible and the information provided will remain anonymous and confidential.

Pope Francis Against Gay Adoption: ‘Every Person Needs a Male Father and a Female Mother’

Photo Credit: APAlthough Pope Francis was praised for his “who am I to judge?” comment about gay individuals and was named Person of the Year by the homosexual magazine The Advocate in 2013, the Pope has rejected the idea of same-sex marriage as an “anthropological regression” and stressed that when it comes to adoption, “every person needs a male father and a female mother.”

Pope Francis explained his views on these hot-button issues in his book, On Heaven and Earth: Pope Francis on Faith, Family, and the Church in the Twenty-First Century, which he co-wrote with Rabbi Abraham Skorka in 2010 and which was republished after the then-Argentine cardinal was elected to the papacy in March 2013.

The book is a dialogue between Skorka and the future Pope and includes a chapter on same-sex marriage, which is where the pontiff also talks about adoption.

Skorka first explains that Judaism “prohibits sexual relations between two men” and then expresses worry about how a proposed gay-marriage law in Argentina could change “the core values of our society.”

Pope Francis (then-Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio) says, “I have the exact same opinion; in order to define it I would use the expression ‘anthropologic regression,’ a weakening of the [marriage] institution that is thousands of years old and that was forged according to nature and anthropology.”

Girl Kidnapped from Santa Ana Park in 2004 Found Alive

Photo Credit: Santa Ana Police DepartmentOn a summer night a decade ago, a 15-year-old girl who had just arrived in Santa Ana from Mexico disappeared from a park near her mother’s apartment.

Police launched a missing-persons investigation. But the case went cold — until this week, when she contacted authorities with a harrowing story of being abducted by her mother’s boyfriend, repeatedly assaulted for years and forced to move around Southern California to avoid being found.

Police say Isidro Garcia, 42, drugged and kidnapped the girl, beat her when she tried to escape and later forced her to marry him.

For years, authorities allege, he used violence and threats to keep her under his control, forcing her to work beside him and telling her she would be deported if she left.

Two years ago she had his child, according to police.

Drone Wars: Memo Justifying Strikes on Americans to be Revealed

Photo Credit: REUTERSThe Obama administration has signaled it will publicly reveal a memo explaining its legal justification for using drones to kill American citizens overseas, a U.S. government official confirmed to Fox News Tuesday.

The official said the Justice Department has decided not to appeal a Court of Appeals ruling requiring disclosure of a redacted version of the memo under the Freedom of Information Act.

The decision to release the documents comes as the Senate is to vote Wednesday on advancing President Obama’s nomination of the memo’s author, Harvard professor and former Justice Department official David Barron, to sit on the 1st U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Boston.

Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., had vowed to fight Barron’s confirmation, and some Democratic senators had called for the memo’s public release before a final vote.

The key Democratic holdout against Barron’s nomination, Sen. Mark Udall D-Colo., announced Tuesday night he will now support Barron because the memo is being released.
