Investigation: How Obama and the Army Betrayed the Victims of Fort Hood

Photo Credit: AP/Eric Gay“Allahu Akbar! Allahu Akbar!”

Army Maj. Nidal Hasan’s words hung in the air along with the smell of gunpowder from his semi-automatic pistol.

On Nov. 5, 2009, the Fort Hood Army psychiatrist methodically and deliberately took the lives of 13 people, including a pregnant woman. Thirty-two others were wounded. The shooting is considered the worst mass murder on a military base in U.S. history, and more than four years later, the victims have yet to find closure.

For the surviving victims, life will never be the same. Retired Army Staff Sgt. Alonzo Lunsford Jr. worked as a psychiatric specialist at the base and had met Hasan several times. He still has difficulty coming to grips with the horrors he witnessed. He’s haunted by the screams of his coworkers whose paths crossed with Hasan in the waiting room at Fort Hood’s Soldier Readiness Processing Center.

Another Baffling DHS Purchase: Over 140,000 Sniper Cartridges

After a report earlier this week about the US Postal Service’s massive ammunition purchase, more eyebrows are being raised over a Department of Homeland Security procurement for tens of thousands of sniper cartridges.

Specifically, the government solicitation seeks to purchase 141,160 rounds of “Hornady .308 Winchester 168gr A-MAX TAP Ammunition.” One law enforcement supplier describes the cartridge as “a traditional match grade bullet with the performance advantages of a polymer tip. This bullet demonstrates an increase in penetration and retained weight . . . [and] demonstrates controlled and impressive soft tissue expansion.”

Another retailer claims this .308 cartridge is “the best 308 tactical ammo made . . . This load features a 168 grain bullet with a ballistic tip type bullet. TAP (Tactical Application Police) is made for law enforcement use and is loaded to the tightest specs for supreme accuracy and reliability. You will not get better ammo than TAP.”

Of course, some international conventions ban this type of bullet in small arms, given the catastrophic injuries potentially created by non-ball ammo. But that’s apparently not stopping Washington’s DHS.

Although these type of purchases may have been made in the past, the real question that needs to be asked is, “Why are the feds – outside of military units – apparently training sniper teams”? Broader questions might be, “Why are the feds engaged in law enforcement in any significant context outside of border security? What constitutionally enumerated power are they relying on to authorize their sniper teams?”

Please contact your congressional members HERE so that they will demand answers from DHS for why that agency finds it necessary to purchase ammunition designed for long-range, sniper applications.

Ted Cruz’s Latest Stand Is Going to Infuriate Some Republicans and Many Democrats

Photo Credit: AP Photo/Charles DharapakAfter the GOP-led House of Representatives on Tuesday voted to increase the nation’s debt ceiling with no strings attached, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) vowed to seek out a 60-vote threshold when the Senate votes on the measure.

When the debt ceiling bill, passed in the House with the help of 28 Republicans, reaches the Senate on Wednesday, Cruz plans to object to the simple majority vote, the Texas senator’s office confirmed. This could very well mean a Cruz filibuster.

Here’s where his plan will certainly anger some of his Republican colleagues.

The 60-vote threshold will force some Republicans to either side with Democrats to increase the debt ceiling, or go back to the drawing board and push for meaningful spending cuts.

Hours before the House vote on Tuesday, House Speaker John Boehner admitted defeat on the debt ceiling. He voted in favor of the no-strings-attached increase.

Grenade Tossed in GOP Civil War

Photo Credit: WND Rep. Steve Stockman, R-Texas, has announced his office has taken the initial steps to call for a Senate Ethics Committee investigation of Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas.

Cornyn is the Senate minority whip and second-most powerful Republican on Capitol Hill.

He is also facing a challenge from Stockman for his Senate seat in the Texas GOP primary on March 4.

A Stockman spokesman told WND a formal Request For Investigation was filed with the Senate Ethics Committee Monday. He said Cornyn could face as many as 24 counts of using his Senate office to promote his reelection campaign.

The congressman claims he has been targeted by establishment Republicans and broke the news to WND on Jan. 31 that he was suing Cornyn’s Super PAC for libel.

House Benghazi Report Concludes Something New That Aide Admits ‘Some People Are Going to Be Upset About’

Photo Credit: AP/Mohammad HannonA House committee formally concluded for the first time that there was no military “stand down” order given on the night of the deadly terror attacks in Benghazi, Libya.

It’s a finding that one committee aide acknowledged to TheBlaze, “some people are going to be upset about.” The allegation that the military was told to stand down on aiding the Americans in Benghazi has long been used to accuse the Obama administration of not doing enough to save the lives of U.S. Ambassador Christopher Stevens and others during the Sept. 11, 2012 attacks.

The Republican-led House Armed Services Committee, however, concluded in its new report that no such order was given; rather, Army Lt. Col. S.E. Gibson, then-head of the site security team at the U.S. Embassy in Tripoli, was ordered by higher commanders to remain in Tripoli, lest another attack take place there as part of a larger coordinated assault.

“The term ‘stand down’ means different things to different people. To someone in uniform, it means you are to do nothing … that is not the direction that Lt. Col. Gibson was given,” the committee aide told TheBlaze.

The finding is part of the committee’s Benghazi report set to be released Tuesday. Stevens, information technology specialist Sean Smith, and CIA security contractors and former Navy SEALs Glen Doherty and Tyrone Woods were killed.

Ice Expert Predicts Three-Quadrillion-Gallon Lake Superior Will Completely Freeze Over This Winter

Superior hasn’t completely frozen over in two decades.

But an expert on Great Lakes ice says there’s a “very high likelihood” that the three-quadrillion-gallon lake will soon be totally covered with ice thanks to this winter’s record-breaking cold.

The ice cover on the largest freshwater lake in the world hit a 20-year record of 91 percent on Feb. 5, 1994.

Jay Austin, associate professor at the Large Lakes Observatory in Duluth, Minn., told CNSNews.com that he expects that record will be broken this winter when the most northern of the Great Lakes becomes totally shrouded in ice.

The thickness of the ice on Lake Superior “varies tremendously,” from a very thin sheet in some areas near the coast to several feet thick in other spots, Austin says. The National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) reports that the mean thickness of the lake ice is 26 cm, or a little over 10 inches.

Washington State Gov. Inslee Suspends Death Penalty

Photo Credit: Kathleen Tyler ConklinGov. Jay Inslee said Tuesday he was suspending the use of the death penalty in Washington state, announcing a move that he hopes will enable officials to “join a growing national conversation about capital punishment.”

The Democrat said he came to the decision after months of review, meetings with family members of victims, prosecutors and law enforcement.

“There have been too many doubts raised about capital punishment, there are too many flaws in this system today,” Inslee said at a news conference. “There is too much at stake to accept an imperfect system.”

Inslee said that the use of the death penalty is inconsistent and unequal. The governor’s staff briefed lawmakers about the move on Monday night and Tuesday morning.

Report: Ohio National Guard Training Envisions Right-Wing Terrorism

Photo Credit: Media TrackersDocuments from an Ohio National Guard (ONG) training drill conducted last January reveal the details of a mock disaster where Second Amendment supporters with “anti-government” opinions were portrayed as domestic terrorists.

The ONG 52nd Civil Support Team training scenario involved a plot from local school district employees to use biological weapons in order to advance their beliefs about “protecting Gun Rights and Second Amendment rights.”

Portsmouth Chief of Police Bill Raisin told NBC 3 WSAZ-TV in Huntington, West Virginia that the drill accurately represented “the reality of the world we live in,” adding that such training “helps us all be prepared.”

Internal ONG documents provided to Media Trackers after repeated delays provide further context to what WSAZ-TV reported last winter.

In the disaster-preparedness scenario, two Portsmouth Junior High School employees poisoned school lunches with mustard gas, acting on orders from white-nationalist leader William Pierce.

Are Government Agencies Secretly Censoring Internet Sites Like Restoring Liberty?

We had a real eye opener last week. Many people had trouble reaching Unseen.is, but some people had no problems whatsoever. The servers were all operating normally; what could cause this problem? I won’t get overly technical, but I think you’ll find the evidence to be persuasive that we’re now entering a new stage of internet censorship, done a bit differently than you might have expected.

It turns out that three network routers, the devices that sit in the data centers that make up the backbone of the internet, flaked out at the same time and dropped many of the packets some of our users were sending to the Unseen.is servers. That three of them would have a problem like this isn’t just highly unusual, it’s actually something suspicious and indicates that they were being targeted to degrade our service and make our customers upset. Here’s a story that came out yesterday (Feb 7th) that talks about this exact subject…the NSA and GCHQ have programs to do precisely this sort of thing and HERE’s the PROOF! If you ever doubted it, this is how they will censor the web in the future (before they go to full lockdown of the internet).

In China, they just blockade the whole thing, to show people who’s really in charge and it’s up to groups like Falun Gong to break through it to let people in China know the truth…or get blamed for a fault in the Great Firewall (when they didn’t do anything). In the West, they’ll need to be more subtle, the peasants might get restless because they still believe they have human rights.

Based on screen grabs from our computers, it appears they can target certain sites, web pages (we’ve seen this with Before It’s News, but finally here’s the proof), individuals and regions and degrade the performance of the internet to prevent access. Most people will just assume “the Internet is having a bad day” because they will talk to friends who can still get to a site or story and assume something is wrong with their computer or local connection. If you can’t see or get something, you might assume it doesn’t exist, like an email you never received. You don’t miss something you never had.

I call this a “soft” Great Firewall and we’d been warned about this by several former military intelligence people. The switch can be flipped at any time and to any degree. To do this you’d need to control or be able to hack your way in to any router on the internet, including those owned by individuals. You should assume the major national security services all have this capability. Some services have their own switching gear at critical locations, I’ve known this since 1997, as our ISP at the time pointed out “the NSA room” that was intercepting and duplicating email and web site visit data. Things have definitely advanced since that time and there is now a Shadow Internet, controlled by these spy services that not only hoovers up data and sends it back to the big data center in the sky. They now actively degrade the internet to censor it.

Krauthammer: Obamacare Delays Stuff of ‘Banana Republic’

Photo Credit: Screenshot The latest delay in the Obamacare employer mandate is more like something done in a “banana republic” than in a democracy, says conservative columnist Charles Krauthammer.

Appearing on Fox News Channel’s “Special Report” on Monday, Krauthammer was part of a panel discussion on Monday’s delay of the employee mandate for yet another year, taking the issue past this year’s midterm elections.

“The whole idea here that the administration is trying to promote that it’s a timing issue and we’ve got to ease them into this is a farce, ” Krauthammer said. “It’s the substance of it.” In the end, he said, the White House may have to cancel the mandate altogether because it will increase joblessness.

“Generally speaking you get past the next election by changing your policies, by announcing new initiatives, but not by wantonly changing the law lawlessly,” Krauthammer said. “This is stuff you do in a banana republic. It’s as if the law is simply a blackboard on which Obama writes any number he wants, any delay he wants on any provision.”

The Affordable Care Act has seen so many changes that no one even notices or complains anymore, he added. If complaints had started with the first “arbitrary changes,” Krauthammer said, perhaps they could have been stopped.
