Epoch Times CFO Is Charged in Alleged $67 Million Global Money Laundering Scheme

By MSN News. The chief financial officer of conservative global news outlet The Epoch Times has been arrested and charged with leading a years long scheme to launder at least $67 million in illicit funds, federal prosecutors said Monday.

The scheme — which involved cryptocurrency, tens of thousands of prepaid debit cards, fraudulently obtained unemployment insurance benefits and stolen personal information — fueled a massive increase in The Epoch Times’ reported annual revenue, prosecutors alleged.

Weidong “Bill” Guan, 61, is charged in U.S. District Court in lower Manhattan with one count of conspiracy to commit money laundering and two counts of bank fraud.

Guan was arrested Sunday morning, and pleaded not guilty on Monday afternoon before a federal magistrate judge in Manhattan, according to a court notice. He was released on a $3 million personal recognizance bond, and his travel is restricted to parts of New York and New Jersey, among other restrictions.

Guan “conspired with others to benefit himself, the media company, and its affiliates by laundering tens of millions of dollars in fraudulently obtained unemployment insurance benefits and other crime proceeds,” U.S. Attorney Damian Williams said in a statement. Feds Charge Far-Right Media Executive With Money-Laundering Scheme

By The Hill. A spokesperson for The Epoch Times confirmed Guan is suspended from his post until the matter is resolved, noting he is “innocent until proven guilty” . . .

Guan, from about 2020 through May 2024, allegedly managed the company’s “Make Money Online Team,” or MMO Team, located in a foreign office of the company, prosecutors said. The team is accused of using cryptocurrency under Guan’s direction to purchase tens of millions of dollars in money acquired through crimes, including fraudulently obtained unemployment benefits.

Upon purchasing these crime proceeds, members of the MMO Team used stolen personal identification information to open accounts, cryptocurrency accounts and bank accounts to transfer the cash into the bank accounts of the media company and “related entities,” the indictment stated. Once in those accounts, the cash was allegedly laundered again through other accounts held by the entities, Guan’s personal bank and cryptocurrency.

The Epoch Times was founded in 2000 by John Tang, who has ties to Falun Gong, a religious group that was persecuted in China. The newsletter was started in opposition of the Chinese Communist Party and is now known for its far-right conspiracy theories and support of former President Trump. . .

The spokesperson for The Epoch Times told The Hill the outlet has “a guiding principle that elevates integrity in its dealings above everything else,” and said the company intends to fully cooperate with any investigation into Guan. Trump Calls on U.S. Supreme Court to End Biden’s Political Prosecution

President Donald Trump on Sunday issued a statement calling on the U.S. Supreme Court to intervene in Joe Biden’s political prosecution of him, just as a sentencing by a “CONFLICTED” judge appointed by Democrats is looming.

A jury in the far-left enclave of Manhattan convicted Trump of 34 counts of business reporting issues, which would have been misdemeanors for which that statute of limitations expired long ago.

However, Alvin Bragg, the local district attorney, claimed they were part of the pursuit of another, hidden, crime, and so that made them felonies. The judge, Juan Merchan, has a daughter doing fundraising for Democrats off of her father’s courtroom decisions, and previously had contributed financially to Democrats, but refused to recognize those conflicts and leave the case.

Now, Trump says a higher authority needs to resolve the political prosecution.

“The ‘Sentencing’ for not having done anything wrong will be, conveniently for the Fascists, 4 days before the Republican National Convention. A Radical Left Soros backed D.A., who ran on a platform of ‘I will get Trump,’ reporting to an ‘Acting’ Local Judge, appointed by the Democrats, who is HIGHLY CONFLICTED, will make a decision which will determine the future of our Nation? The United States Supreme Court MUST DECIDE!” (Read more from “Trump Calls on U.S. Supreme Court to End Biden’s Political Prosecution” HERE)

Accurso, who is also a children’s author and has books and clothing being sold at Target, upset quite a few parents who were taken aback by gender and sexuality being mentioned on a channel geared towards toddlers.

Netanyahu: U.S. Portrayal of Israeli Proposal to Hamas ‘Not Accurate’

U.S. President Joe Biden’s portrayal of Israel’s proposal to Hamas was inaccurate, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee on Monday.

“I am not willing to stop the war. I will not describe the details of the deal, but what the president of the United States described is not accurate,” Netanyahu said during a closed-door session, the Kan News public broadcaster reported.

“We can stop the fighting for 42 days in order to return hostages, but we will not give up on total victory,” he was said to have told lawmakers.

The premier also said that Biden omitted “other details” during his Friday address on the ongoing talks with the Hamas terrorist group.

“The Iranians and all of our enemies are looking at us and want to see us surrender. Don’t pay attention to the publications—there is a lot of fake news doing the rounds,” Netanyahu added. (Read more from “Netanyahu: U.S. Portrayal of Israeli Proposal to Hamas ‘Not Accurate'” HERE)

Unhinged: Maxine Waters Goes After Trump and ‘Domestic Terrorists’ for ‘Divisive Language’

Last week, we covered how Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) had a particularly looney response to former and potentially future President Donald Trump being found “guilty” on all 34 counts in his hush money “trial.” She’s only since doubled down on the lunacy, as she appeared on MSNBC’s “The Saturday Show with Jonathan Capehart,” where she ranted and raved not merely about Trump, but “domestic terrorists.”

Waters claimed during the program that she was “going to spend some time” with the justice system to ask about “domestic terrorists,” wanting to know “are they preparing a civil war against us? Should we be concerned about our safety? What is he doing with this divisive language?! It is dangerous, and we’re going to have to make sure that we understand that we’re not at risk with this man talking in the way that he is doing,” she said about Trump.

A longer clip shared by Fox News also showed Waters repeating how “divisive” Trump supposedly is as he talks about “revenge,” which he and his supporters have made clear will take place on November 5, when voters choose to elect him once more (or not) in response to the lawfare from the so-called justice system.

“I think that that’s dangerous,” Waters lamented, also bringing up a popular albeit debunked narrative from President Joe Biden’s reelection campaign, which is that Trump claimed there will be “bloodshed.” In the full context of his remarks from March in Ohio, it was clear that he was speaking about the U.S. auto industry in the economic sense, should Biden be reelected.

‘Science Doesn’t Belong To Any One Person’: Lawmakers Grill Fauci On Pandemic Origins

Lawmakers grilled Dr. Anthony Fauci, who served as chief medical advisor to President Biden during the COVID-19 pandemic, for his assertions that he wasn’t responsible for the six-foot social distancing rule and other policies during his Monday testimony to the House Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic.

The subcommittee’s chair, Ohio Republican Rep. Brad Wenstrup, took aim at Fauci’s infamous “I represent science” comments in his opening remarks.

“Science doesn’t belong to any one person,” Wenstrup said.

Democratic Maryland Rep. Jamie Raskin later offered the first trickle of what would become a torrent effusive praise and penitence from the subcommittee’s minority side.

“The investigation of Dr. Fauci shows he is an honorable public servant who has devoted his entire career to the public health and the public interest and he is not a comic book supervillain,” Raskin claimed. “He did not fund research to create the COVID-19 pandemic. He did not lie to Congress about gain of function research in Wuhan and he did not organize a lab leak suppression campaign.” (Read more from “‘Science Doesn’t Belong To Any One Person’: Lawmakers Grill Fauci On Pandemic Origins” HERE)

‘Microwave Mistake’ Leads to Woman’s Death, Police Say

A 67-year-old woman in South Carolina has died after a “microwave mistake” started a house fire.

Thommie Ruth Jackson died on May 23rd inside the home she shared with her sister in Sumter County, Florida, according to a press release the Sumter Country Sheriff’s Office issued on Facebook.

Authorities received the emergency call reporting the fire late on the night of Thursday the 23rd. Deputies on the scene reported “smoke billowing from the home and heard someone screaming for help,” according to the release.

Deputies quickly learned Jackson was still inside and attempted to force the door open, but thick smoke prevented entry. Jackson’s sister directed them to a window of the room where she believed Jackson was located, while Sumter County Fire Department personnel worked to rescue Jackson and extinguish the fire.

“A witness at the scene reported that a resident had attempted to warm a sandwich in packaging containing foil in the microwave,” deputies said in their official statement. “The sandwich wrapper within the microwave oven burst into flames and attempts to extinguish the fire failed.” (Read more from “‘Microwave Mistake’ Leads to Woman’s Death, Police Say” HERE)

Congressional Dems Apparently Want to ‘Biden-Proof’ Their Campaigns as President Continues to Tank in Polls

Some Congressional Democrats are apparently looking to distance their campaigns from President Joe Biden as they head into the 2024 election, according to Axios.

Five months out from the 2024 election, President Joe Biden is struggling in head-to-head matchups, both nationally and across key swing states, against former President Donald Trump. The poor polling coming from Biden have caused several Democratic lawmakers to “Biden-proof” their campaign in an effort to help boost their already close races, the candidates told Axios.

“[There is] more distancing now as his numbers continue to tank,” one House Democrat told the outlet, saying his campaign was “pretty much washing my hands of his campaign.”

The candidates distancing their campaigns from Biden is an alternative to publicly “rejecting” the president, Democratic incumbents, candidates and operatives told the outlet.

“[There is] always an element where you run your own race,” but “it’s even more pronounced,” a House Democrat told Axios. (Read more from “Congressional Dems Apparently Want to ‘Biden-Proof’ Their Campaigns as President Continues to Tank in Polls” HERE)

The US Is Facing an ‘Out of Control’ STI Epidemic, Experts Warn

The US is dealing with an “out-of-control” epidemic of sexually transmitted infections, according to the National Coalition of STD Directors.

The warning, issued in January, followed the release of an annual data report on STIs by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

The exasperation of public health officials can be felt in the very first sentence of the online announcement.

“Yet again,” the CDC website said, “more than 2.5 million cases of chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis were reported in the United States.”

The most common STI in the US in 2022 was chlamydia, which has remained in the top spot for years now. Nevertheless, it is the recent rise in syphilis that is concerning health officials most. (Read more from “The US Is Facing an ‘Out of Control’ STI Epidemic, Experts Warn” HERE)
