Christian Vet Who Beheaded Satanic Statue at Iowa Capital Charged With Hate Crime

Michael Cassidy has been charged with a hate crime for beheading a statue of Satan at the Iowa Capitol. Cassidy drove up to Iowa after the Satanic display was erected in the state capitol and took it down. He will be arraigned on February 15.

Polk County prosecutors charged Cassidy with felony third-degree criminal mischief, saying that he acted “in violation of individual rights” under Iowa’s hate crime statue, the Des Moines Register reports.

Cassidy had been charged with a misdemeanor fourth-degree criminal mischief the day after the beheading but had been informed that he may be liable for further charges.

Spokesman for the Polk County Attorney’s Office Lynn Hicks said that “Evidence shows the defendant made statements to law enforcement and the public indicating he destroyed the property because of the victim’s religion.” This is what resulted in the hate crimes charge. Speaker Johnson Denies That Trump Is to Blame for Border Deal Opposition

Speaker Mike Johnson on Tuesday savaged a bipartisan border security deal that senators are working to finalize this week, calling it insufficient to secure the southern border.

“It seems the authority to shut down the border would kick in only after as many as 5,000 illegal crossings happen a day. Why? Why would we do that?” he asked during a press conference. “That would be surrender. The goal should be zero illegal crossings a day.”

Asked about rumblings of the deal, which the speaker said he’s yet to see the text of, Johnson said: “I hope some of this is not true.” Johnson has repeatedly criticized the deal in the last week, saying in a statement it could be “dead on arrival” in the House if the rumors about its contents were true.

Harvard’s Chief Diversity Officer Faces Plagiarism Accusations Amid Growing Scandals

Harvard University’s Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer, Sherri Ann Charleston, is facing a barrage of plagiarism allegations, with an anonymous complaint listing at least 40 instances of academic misconduct dating back to 2009. The accusations come on the heels of the recent resignation of Harvard University President Claudine Gay, who stepped down amid her own plagiarism scandal and controversy surrounding her handling of antisemitism on campus.

The Washington Free Beacon reported that the allegations against Charleston include failing to properly cite other scholars’ work, omitting references in footnotes, and even neglecting to attribute her husband’s study properly. The complaint claims that Charleston quoted or paraphrased numerous scholars without adequate attribution in her 2009 dissertation at the University of Michigan, a decade before she joined Harvard.

One specific allegation involves Charleston allegedly taking credit for a study authored by her husband, LaVar Charleston, who is currently the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s Deputy Vice Chancellor for Diversity and Inclusion. The complaint contends that Charleston reused significant portions of her husband’s paper in a 2014 peer-reviewed article they co-authored, published in the Journal of Negro Education. The article allegedly replicated the findings, method, and survey subject descriptions from her husband’s original paper.

Social psychologist Lee Jussim from Rutgers University commented on the situation, stating, “You cannot just republish an old paper as if it is a new paper. If you do, that is not exactly plagiarism; it’s more like fraud.”

Charleston has not responded to requests for comment on the plagiarism allegations, and Harvard representatives have not indicated whether they are launching an investigation into the claims. The complaint has reportedly been filed not only with Harvard but also with the University of Michigan and the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

FAA Created “Secret Code Words” for Blacks So They Could One-up Whites and Asians

. . .There’s this shocking new report about the FAA. Apparently, they’ve got this “secret word code” for black aviation students’ resumes. The goal is to push these resumes to the front, possibly skipping over other folks who might actually be far more qualified. But they don’t stop there; they’ve got even more racist tricks up their sleeves.

This is one of the craziest things I’ve ever read.

First, the FAA gave secret code words to students in the Black Caucus of Federal Aviation Employees to put in their resume that would skip them to the front of the line.

In another instance of the signals to go to the front of the line was to say the high school class you received your lowest grades in was “Science.”

Yes, they literally shot you to the front of the line if you said your worst grades were in Science.

Jury Reveals Verdict for Six Pro-Life Activists Charged With Blocking Access to Abortion Clinic

Six pro-life activists were found guilty of blocking access to an abortion clinic on Tuesday and could face a sentence of up to 11 years in prison, according to a press release from the Thomas More Society.

The Department of Justice (DOJ) charged 11 pro-life activists in October 2022 with violating the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act, which “prohibits threats of force, obstruction and property damage intended to interfere with reproductive health care services,” for blocking the entrance of an abortion clinic in March 2021. A jury ruled that the six defendants were guilty after a six-day trial at the Fred D. Thompson U.S. Courthouse in Nashville, Tennessee, according to the press release.

“We are, of course, disappointed with the outcome,” Steve Crampton, senior counsel for the Thomas More Society, which is representing Paul Vaughn, said. “This was a peaceful demonstration by entirely peaceable citizens—filled with prayer, hymn-singing, and worship—oriented toward persuading expecting mothers not to abort their babies. Mother Arrested in Baby’s Fentanyl Overdose Death

A heartbreaking incident has unfolded in Florida, leading to the arrest of 33-year-old Kacy Kincaid after her 9-month-old baby boy succumbed to a fentanyl overdose in October. The Ocala Police Department announced on social media that Kincaid is now facing an aggravated manslaughter of a child charge in connection with the tragic death, and she was taken into custody on January 24.

The investigation commenced on October 12 when Ocala police officers responded to Advent Health regarding the infant, who was later pronounced deceased. At that time, the cause of the baby’s death was unclear, but the police discovered that Kincaid had 5 grams of fentanyl in her possession. Attempts to interview her proved challenging, as she appeared to be under the influence of drugs and alcohol and was unable to engage in coherent conversation, leading to her arrest on a felony trafficking charge.

A subsequent report from the Medical Examiner’s Office revealed that the baby had died from fentanyl, methamphetamine, and xylazine toxicity. Kincaid’s blood sample also tested positive for fentanyl, along with other substances. The 5 grams of fentanyl found in her possession showed the presence of the same xylazine compound found in the child’s blood during the autopsy.

Detective Kern, leading the investigation, determined there was sufficient probable cause to arrest Kincaid for the death of her child. During the inquiry, law enforcement interviewed a relative who shared a home with Kincaid. The relative found Kincaid drunk and asleep in her bed and discovered the baby in the bed as well, appearing to be sleeping peacefully.

An argument between Kincaid and the relative about her drinking ensued, leading the relative to move to their room with the baby. Later, when attempting to move the baby, the relative found the infant ‘stiff,’ prompting CPR before rushing the baby to the hospital.

Kincaid is currently incarcerated in the Marion County jail with no set bond.

Farhi was once the left-wing media reporter for the disgraced Washington Post. During a recent round of layoffs at the failing Post, Farhi accepted a buyout. Now he believes that the same people the corporate media insult, demean, and misinform (you and I) should bail out this fascist institution:

The outlook for 2024 seems especially cloudy to Sewell Chan, the editor in chief of The Texas Tribune, a nonprofit publication that has been held up as a sustainable news-business model. Chan told me that the past year has been as gloomy for the news industry as 2008–09, the start of the Great Recession, when a number of titles went under. “I fear 2023–24 could be another extinction-level event,” he said.

Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor vented about being “tired” from her demanding workload on the high court as well as her “frustration” with the conservative-dominated bench.

Speaking to a group of students at the University of California, Berkley School of Law, the 69-year-old jurist opened up about the vicissitudes of serving on the court while increasingly in the political crosshairs.

“Cases are bigger. They’re more demanding. The number of amici are greater, and you know that our emergency calendar is so much more active. I’m tired,” she said, per Bloomberg Law.

“There used to be a time when we had a good chunk of the summer break. Not anymore. The emergency calendar is busy almost on a weekly basis.”

Sotomayor had been elevated to the Supreme Court by former President Barack Obama back in 2009. She was the first woman of color and Latina to ascend to the highest court in the land.
