World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Ghebreyesus has issued a call for countries to join a pandemic treaty aimed at preparing the world for the potential threat of “Disease X.” Addressing an audience at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Ghebreyesus expressed hope that countries would finalize the agreement by May to collectively confront this yet-to-emerge but hypothetical virus, which scientists suggest could be 20 times deadlier than COVID-19.

Designated as a “placeholder” virus in 2017, Disease X represents a potential pathogen with the capacity to cause a severe international epidemic, according to a 2022 WHO press release. Ghebreyesus stressed the need for global readiness, emphasizing that COVID-19 was the first Disease X, and preparing for another pandemic is imperative.

“There are things that are unknown that may happen, and anything happening is a matter of when, not if, so we need to have a placeholder for that, for the diseases we don’t know,” stated Ghebreyesus.

“The pandemic agreement can bring all the experience, all the challenges that we have faced, and all the solutions into one. That agreement can help us to prepare for the future in a better way,” Ghebreyesus asserted, emphasizing that narrow national interests should not hinder global collaboration.

Independent panels and experts have been working to formulate collective responses, and Ghebreyesus set a deadline for the treaty to be signed by May.

The negotiations for the global pandemic treaty began in March 2021, with world leaders emphasizing an all-encompassing approach involving governments and societies at various levels. The proposed treaty aims to enhance international cooperation in areas such as alert systems, data-sharing, research, and the production and distribution of medical countermeasures.

While the Biden administration engaged in negotiations last year, critics within the GOP, including Rep. Tim Burchett of Tennessee, have expressed concerns about the treaty’s vagueness and potential impact on national sovereignty [via Fox News]:

A messy love triangle between the high-powered district attorney in charge of the 2020 election-fraud case involving former President Donald Trump, the married lover she chose to be special prosecutor and his estranged wife is imploding in Fulton County.

Nobody on either side of the political aisle understands what Fulton County DA Fani Willis was thinking when she hired her reported boyfriend, a personal injury lawyer with zero high-profile felony trial experience, to be the lead special prosecutor in what is likely the biggest case of her career.

Nor do people understand why she’d blur her personal and professional life by jetting off for a $2,600 cruise and romantic trip to California’s Napa Valley with still legally married Wade while working on the sprawling and complex racketeering case against former President Donald Trump and his allies.

But Willis’ decision to hire Nathan Wade, 51, a sharp dresser who operates out of a basement office 20 miles north of Atlanta, and allegedly pay him thousands more than two much more qualified lawyers on her team, has backfired and threatens to derail her career — if not put the planned trial against Trump on state election interference charges in jeopardy.

Bank records released Friday in a new filing by Wade’s estranged wife’s lawyers in Cobb County were the first proof of Wade and Willis’ relationship, showing that he purchased tickets for San Francisco and Miami on his personal credit card in 2022 and 2023, after Wade had been named special prosecutor. Tragedy at Sea: Navy SEALs Presumed Dead After Boarding Boat Illegally Carrying Iranian Weapons

In a somber announcement on Sunday afternoon, the U.S. Military revealed that two Navy SEALs who went missing nearly two weeks ago during a mission off the coast of Africa are now presumed dead. The tragic incident occurred during a nighttime interdiction mission on January 11, where the SEALs were climbing onto a vessel when one was knocked off by powerful ocean waves.

Following protocol, the next Navy SEAL in line jumped into the water to assist in the rescue efforts. Despite a 10-day exhaustive search, the missing SEALs have not been located, and their status has been officially changed to deceased, as confirmed by U.S. Central Command. The search and rescue operation transitioned into recovery operations.

Japan and Spain joined the U.S. in the extensive search efforts, covering more than 21,000 square miles. Additional support was provided by the Fleet Numerical Meteorology and Oceanography Center, the U.S. Coast Guard Atlantic Area Command, University of San Diego – Scripts Institute of Oceanography, and the Office of Naval Research – Oceanographic Support.

INSANITY: Trans Golfer Wins Women’s Tournament, One Step Closer to LPGA Qualifier

A male-born transgender golfer is one more step closer to winning membership as a Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) competitor after winning a woman’s tournament in Florida.

Hailey Davidson, 30, won the NXXT Women’s Classic on Jan. 17 at the Mission Inn Resort and Club, near Orlando, Florida, with a one-over-73 score and finishing the three-round event at a +4, the New York Post reported.

Davidson, a Scottish-born man whose real name is James Scott Davidson, supposedly began hormone treatments in Sept. of 2015, the last year he he competed as a man, to begin the transition to a transgender woman, Golf Week reported.

After undergoing full gender reassignment surgery, Davidson set his sights on becoming a female pro golfer and won his first women’s tournament in May of 2021, five years after beginning the transition. By June of that year, Davidson received confirmation from the LPGA that he was eligible to join the league’s qualifying school and work towards earning his women’s golf membership card.

Man Stabbed in Neck During Randall’s Island Migrant Shelter Melee; 18 in Custody but Suspect on the Loose

By New York Post. A wild melee at the troubled Randall’s Island migrant shelter Thursday left an [illegal alien] stabbed in the neck and 18 people in custody — with cops still hunting for the knife-wielding suspect, law-enforcement sources say.

A brawl broke out at the troubled shelter around 3:30 p.m. between two groups, who started fighting inside the shelter but then took it outside — armed with knives and throwing rocks at each other, sources said.

A 24-year-old man was stabbed during violent chaos, sources said.

He was taken by EMTs to Harlem Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.

A 911 caller initially indicated to cops that a security guard stabbed the victim, but police sources later said it appeared that was not the case and that the assailant was still at large. Jeff Bezos has a habit of issuing splashy philanthropic promises while offering few details. The latest: a $100 million pledge to help rebuild Maui after August’s devastating wildfires. . .

This isn’t the first time Bezos has offered few specifics on his philanthropy. There was the $10 billion climate pledge, nine-figure gifts to famous friends and a vague promise to give away the majority of his wealth — all of which came with little more than a dollar figure and subject area, if that. . .

“Nobody’s heard anything at all,” said Angus McKelvey, the state senator representing West Maui, adding that he’s disappointed in the lack of information and collaboration. “Had they simply consulted with the community and myself and other representatives, we would’ve told them, ‘Take your money and put it over here.’”

Trisha Kehaulani Watson, vice president of native Hawaiian nonprofit ‘Āina Momona, said they haven’t gotten any of the money and was unaware of anyone in her network of nonprofits who has.

Poll: Majority of MAGA Voters Want Trump to Seek ‘Revenge’ if Re-Elected (VIDEO)

A recent CBS News/YouGov survey reveals that a significant majority of Make America Great Again (MAGA) voters believe former President Donald Trump should seek revenge in a potential second term by criminally charging his political opponents. The survey, conducted among likely Republican primary voters, also highlighted Trump’s strong lead in the GOP primary, surpassing his opponents by 55 points with 69 percent support.

According to the survey conducted from January 10-12, 2024, 55 percent of MAGA voters expressed support for Trump seeking revenge through criminal charges against political opponents in a second term. Meanwhile, three in ten non-MAGA voters also agreed with the idea. However, 45 percent of MAGA voters indicated that Trump should not pursue retribution in that manner, and a majority of non-MAGA voters (70 percent) shared this perspective.

Trump’s potential pursuit of retribution became a topic of discussion during a Fox News town hall held in Iowa, where the former president addressed the issue. Trump acknowledged that some might view seeking revenge as justified in light of what he described as various hoaxes, including the Russia investigation and intelligence agent hoaxes. Despite the survey’s findings, Trump emphasized that his focus would be on making the country successful and stated, “I’m not gonna have time for retribution. Our ultimate retribution is success.”

The town hall event featuring Trump garnered significant attention, with nearly double the viewership of CNN’s Republican primary debate, serving as counter-programming to the debate between Trump’s rivals, Nikki Haley and Gov. Ron DeSantis.
