Video 5: Planned Parenthood’s Uncle Tom’s Cabin

Uncle_Toms_Cabin_for_Children_-900Not even 24 hours after the Democrats voted nearly lockstep to keep on pouring $500 million of taxpayer money yearly into Planned Parenthood’s baby-organ-trafficking business, the fifth and most devastating undercover video appeared from the heroic truthtellers of the Center for Medical Progress — documenting yet again with clear, continuous video the fact that Planned Parenthood evades and violates federal law.

Planned Parenthood takes orders for particular pieces of unborn babies (brains, eyeballs, livers and lungs) of particular ages (as late as 22 weeks, the same age as many premature infants now thriving in hospital ICU wards) and even for intact corpses of otherwise viable unborn babies. Then it kills the unborn babies to order, in particular ways that suit the needs of organ businesses, and delivers them for pre-arranged prices, to enhance its “revenue stream.”

The fifth video could not be more timely.

Planned Parenthood and its baby-parts customers are scrambling like “plumbers” in the Nixon White House to staunch the flow of information, venue-shopping for judges with close enough ties to President Obama to issue corrupt gag orders that hide the truth from the public and even lawmakers. Leading Democrats are trumpeting their firm support for Planned Parenthood as a crucial provider of “women’s health care.” They know better than anyone what Big Democratic Money demands on the abortion issue: unconditional fealty.

That’s what Sen. Robert Casey, Jr., of Pennsylvania offered them when he voted to keep funding Planned Parenthood, betraying the voters who’d believed he was really pro-life and mocking his father’s memory. We remember when faithful Catholic Robert Casey, Sr., a beloved senator from a key swing state, was frozen out of speaking at the Democratic Convention in 1992 because of his pro-life convictions. Appalled at this quashing of free political debate, the secular pro-life atheist and civil liberties leftist Nat Henthoff of The Village Voice arranged for Casey to give the same address at a shrine of free speech, New York’s Cooper Union, where Abraham Lincoln delivered a famous anti-slavery address in 1859.

One of us showed up for Casey’s speech, but again it was censored. Henthoff and Casey tried again and again to speak, for more than an hour, but pro-abortion hecklers shouted, catcalled, chanted and finally wore those good men down. Henthoff unplugged the mike and, with Casey, shuffled offstage, their eyes cast down at the floor.

That’s how abortion stays legal in America: through a reign of political thuggery, silence, denial and lies. Our country now suffers like Narnia under the Witch: It is always winter, never Christmas, for a million babies each year who fall into Herod’s clutches.

But no winter lasts forever. Silence was meant to be broken, even the silence of the grave — the nameless, faceless shambles of medical waste dumpsters where dismembered Americans are dumped like spoiled cold cuts, once their value has been extracted and transferred to medical labs.

The tomb of Jesus was equally unmarked and obscure. But it was explosive enough that Pilate and the Sadducees had to garrison it with guards, in the hope of corking the Truth via naked force. That gag order proved futile, and so will Planned Parenthood’s. As Shakespeare wrote, “Truth will out.”

The last time America was smeared, from head to toe, by a profound moral evil, that sin too was carefully maintained by silence and lies. Throughout the slave-owning South, it was illegal even to emulate George Washington and voluntarily free your slaves. And those who printed anti-slavery books and newspapers could go to prison, and have their presses seized by the state, while abolitionists were hunted, beaten and killed.

Hundreds of scribbling journalists and authors churned out idyllic pictures of the master/slave relationship, comparing it to parenthood, to mentorship, to the storied courts of feudal Europe. Slave state capitols like the one in Baton Rouge were built like Camelot castles, to bolster the fantasy that the slave-owning South was the honest heir of the Middle Ages, and that enslaved American blacks were like the subjects of King Richard the Lionheart.

Similarly today, the Democrats and their enablers sell a happy-clappy lie — that Planned Parenthood is a noble organization devoted to promoting women’s health care among the poor. They accept awards named for Margaret Sanger, whose racist views and ties to Nazi eugenics are a matter of clear historical record but which is also carefully whitewashed. They plant their clinics in ghettos and abort 94 percent of the babies they encounter, then pretend that they serve the poor and honor African-Americans. Now we know that they harvest the children of the poor and cannibalize them for parts, like stolen cars in a chop-shop.

But the pretense continues. The slogans keep getting repeated, with almost robotic discipline: Keep talking about the mammograms — it doesn’t matter that PP doesn’t offer them. Keep using words like “health,” “choice” and even “adoption.” Who cares if PP’s ratio of abortion to adoption is 117 to 1? Just stay with the spin, and wait the opposition out. The money will keep on coming.

Planned Parenthood’s Cabin

It doesn’t always take an army to shatter an empire built on lies. Sometimes all it needs is a single, bold truthteller who finds an honest audience. When Harriet Beecher Stowe wrote Uncle Tom’s Cabin, she could not really have dreamed what kind of impact her novel would have. She was simply an author with an agenda: to tell the truth. She knew that the folksy paternalism of pro-slavery Southern rhetoric masked a rat’s nest of inhuman truths: That black women were routinely raped, with no legal recourse. That black men were flogged, sometimes to death, with no one punished for the brutality. That even well-meaning slave-owners, when their gambling debts needed paying, routinely had black children ripped out of their mothers’ arms and sold “down the river” to perish in the brutal cane-fields of Louisiana, or be prostituted to sate the lusts of “honorable” Southern gentlemen. She knew this, and wrote it, in words of fire that changed a nation.

Southern states outlawed her book. They believed in gag orders, too. But it was too late, and the institution of slavery sat on death row, counting its days.

Don’t think that in raising slavery and Stowe that I am calling for civil war in America. A civil war is in fact already underway. The most basic unit of community we could possibly imagine is that irreducible dyad of a pregnant mother and child. It is the root of human life, the most intimate possible bond. When a woman is pressed to destroy that, it is like goading her to suicide. But our Culture of Death has invaded that sacred, intimate realm, sowing enmity and violence between mother and child.

If our country is to enjoy any kind of lasting civil order, we can’t allow cynical profiteers of human suffering like Planned Parenthood to foster this discord and violence, to pile up millions of dollars by selling their victims. Like slaves. (Re-posted with permission from the author, “Video 5: Planned Parenthood’s Uncle Tom’s Cabin”, originally appeared HERE)

On Immigration, Trump and Dolan Are Both Wrong

A few days ago, New York’s Timothy Cardinal Dolan went after Donald Trump on immigration, using not a scalpel but a sledgehammer, lumping all opposition to mass, unskilled immigration into a big, sticky ball of anti-Catholic “nativism,” which is linked to the Ku Klux Klan. Dolan seemed to imply that Americans who worry about undisciplined immigration policy are not exercising responsible citizenship, but are part of an “organized, white, Protestant antagonism toward the Catholic immigrant.”

There’s no good defense for Donald Trump’s record or rhetoric on immigration; he has flip-flopped on this issue as on every other — four years ago calling Mitt Romney “maniacal” for opposing mass amnesty, this year tarnishing the cause of border control through overheated, cringe-worthy rants.

But Dolan’s approach to the issue risks going to the other extreme, even pitting Catholics against other Christians, when the issues involved are far more complicated and serious. If it’s unfair for immigration opponents to dismiss Catholic bishops’ opinions because of the many millions of dollars in federal contracts that church agencies rake in for processing immigrants, then it’s equally unfair to write off as “bigotry” the realistic concerns of millions of patriotic Americans — many of whom themselves are Catholic descendants of immigrants. I am profoundly grateful to America for accepting my grandfather as a legal immigrant from Austria-Hungary — grateful enough to look out for my country’s best interests today, in very different circumstances.

Though Cardinal Dolan did not claim there was a simple Catholic “position” on the right number of immigrants the U.S. ought to admit or the kind of public benefits such immigrants should be offered, some prominent Catholics have tried hard to create that impression. This imaginary Catholic doctrine is invariably presented as coinciding with the policies favored by the left wing of the Democratic party — just as throughout the 1980s, the U.S. bishops produced one policy statement after another endorsing larger government, higher welfare payments, more regulation of business, and a decrease of U.S. defense spending.

None of the bishops’ quixotic policies were implemented, but their statements gave political cover to putatively Catholic politicians like Mario Cuomo, Edward Kennedy, Geraldine Ferraro, and (later) Nancy Pelosi. How many hundreds of times have pro-lifers who criticized someone like Pelosi heard the claim, “Well, I may differ with the Church on just one narrow issue — women’s reproductive choice. But you Republicans dissent from the Church on poverty, peace, health care and social justice. We’re truer Catholics than you.”

Another side effect of bishops’ ventures into legislative politics was to damage and divide the coalition of pro-family voters. Well-meaning Protestants who supported the Church in trying to halt the gross crime of abortion were flummoxed by the time and money that churchmen spent helping liberal Democrats on every other issue. Just so, the most vocal pro-life Protestants (and many of the Catholics) in the current Congress oppose the proposed amnesty bill for illegal immigrants, wondering why the Church has thrown its weight behind a policy so eagerly favored by the vote-hungry and pro-abortion Left.

The political impact of the U.S. bishops conference was so worrying to the Vatican that Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger made public statements — for instance, in The Ratzinger Report — clarifying the level of theological authority held by national bishops conferences: They have none. Zip. Zero. A bishop can teach with authority in his diocese if he faithfully reflects what is taught by Rome, but no intermediate doctrinal body exists.

There is a Catholic teaching on immigration. It offers a brief and sane criterion for principled policy, which it codifies in the Catechism of the Catholic Church:

The more prosperous nations are obliged, to the extent they are able, to welcome the foreigner in search of the security and the means of livelihood which he cannot find in his country of origin. …

And:

Immigrants are obliged to respect with gratitude the material and spiritual heritage of the country that receives them, to obey its laws and to assist in carrying civic burdens (2241).

Within the bounds of these two statements, Catholic laymen are free — indeed, we’re obliged — to argue about the proper application of this teaching in our own country and context. In the same way, we apply “just war” teaching to particular conflicts our nation faces. While we listen to the advice of popes and bishops, we know that they can be wrong, as some medieval popes were wrong to call crusades against Christian heretics or to wage war on neighboring cities.

Those of us who, after serious reflection, come up with our own answer about the optimum number of migrants for our country to admit while remaining consistent with the common good ought not to be falsely branded as “dissenters” or “apostates” or “nativists,” or charged with any of a long list of other made-up hate crimes that are routinely adduced by leftist activists and well-meaning but addled Catholics who have internalized leftist arguments.

Now let’s parse the points made by the Catechism, and see how the implications of Church teaching can be discussed in a civil manner.

“To the extent they are able …”

This statement is broad enough that we could argue over it indefinitely. Theoretically, the entire population of the world could fit in the state of Texas, with several feet of wiggle room to spare. Does that mean that the U.S. is “able” to accept the entire world? Clearly not, because there are countless economic, environmental, cultural, fiscal and other factors that determine what we are actually “able” to do. All those points are things we must determine by rational argument and setting our national priorities by democratic vote. There is no secret “Catholic answer” to these questions; however, natural law principles can and should be invoked in our discussions of the matter. Such arguments are prudential, and the Church does not pretend to have the competence to answer them; if it did, we should simply ask Pope Francis to use his infallible authority to draw up the U.S. budget every year.

We can discuss this question using a cost/benefit analysis, looking both at the common good and (in light of the Church’s correct emphasis on a ‘preferential option for the poor’) at how a given policy affects not just the poor from elsewhere but the poorest American citizens.

Why do I say that? Isn’t it “xenophobic” and “discriminatory” to privilege poor Americans over poor Iraqis or Somalis? Aren’t those “foreigners” equally made in the image and likeness of God?

Of course they are. But just as we owe family members more than we owe strangers, we owe more to fellow citizens — whose ancestors paid taxes to build our roads and fought in our country’s wars, who may even have been American slaves — than we do to foreign residents.

In some ways, a country is like a club where members pay dues and take on certain duties in return for certain privileges. To flood such a club with non-members and offer them every privilege members have earned is simply unjust to the other members. It is up to the members to vote on whom they will admit and how many. And one of our key criteria must be, “How does this influx affect the American poor?” Given the U.S. birth dearth and the collapse of public schools (in part under the weight of mandatory bilingualism), we must also ask: “How does it affect working families who are striving to educate their children?”

“Immigrants are obliged to respect with gratitude the material and spiritual heritage of the country that receives them.”

We could argue for years about what this means. But surely fulfilling this obligation of immigrants includes a certain degree of assimilation: namely, learning the English language and switching their loyalty from their nation of origin to the U.S. When tens of thousands of recent immigrants, both legal and illegal, march through the streets chanting foreign slogans and waving foreign flags, that raises legitimate fears among Americans that not all immigrants are willing to keep up their side of the bargain. It doesn’t help when immigrants go to their former nations’ consulates to vote in their elections, or when they vote as ethnic blocs in our elections for larger government programs to tax the wealth of native-born citizens to fund programs from which the immigrants disproportionately benefit.

“… To obey its laws and to assist in carrying civic burdens.”

Right there, we see that those who have not obeyed U.S. immigration laws have forfeited any strict claim in justice to remain on American soil. Simply the fact that a law is poorly enforced does not mean that we are free to violate it, demand that the state later give us amnesty, and sign up for social programs we barely paid taxes to support. By saying this, do I mean that I favor the mass deportation of illegal immigrants? No. But when we search for a prudent policy for dealing with the ill-effects of poor law enforcement — the presence of more than 10 million illegal residents — we must make sure that such poor enforcement does not happen again. That is all that opponents of the current immigrant amnesty are arguing; in return for this mass act of mercy toward those who have broken our laws, all we ask is a real and solid guarantee that this will not happen again. Elites are fighting, tooth and nail, every truly effective policy for securing our country’s borders, demanding amnesty first and enforcement later. Forgive us for not believing empty promises; Our Lord did tell us to be “wise as serpents.”

These are the issues at stake in the immigration debate. It is useless — and frankly uncharitable — for either side to assume the lowest, foulest motives of its opponents. So let’s make a deal: You don’t call me an apostate or a nativist and I won’t call you a traitor. Instead, “let us reason together” (Isaiah 1:18) about what policies ensure the common good and help our poorest fellow citizens. How Can Congress Let This Continue Even One More Day?

Here’s the challenge for members of the media and the political class: will they exhibit as much outrage over the endless rapes and murders of Americans at the hands of illegal aliens as they have over a dead lion in Zimbabwe?

It’s all about priorities.

The results of Obama’s comprehensive suspension of immigration enforcement are now becoming apparent, and it’s clear the Kate Steinle murder was just the tip of the iceberg.

1. This case is a quintessential example of how Obama’s sanctuary nation policies are even more dangerous than sanctuary cities. He is prohibiting federal authorities from detaining illegal immigrants even in localities where law enforcement is willing to cooperate. It also shows that there are plenty of illegals that have not been caught committing crimes yet but have violent proclivities and could act upon them at any moment if they are not deported.

Yet, Republicans have remained completely silent about Obama’s November 20, 2014 amnesty ever since they voted to fund it in February. More appallingly, just one month ago, Ohio’s governor, John Kasich, declared that deportations are “inhumane” and has been tepid in his response to this travesty in his state.

Remember, the courts only halted the issuance of Social Security cards and work permits to the DAPA recipients but cannot block Obama’s refusal to deport illegal aliens. Moreover, the DACA program has not been enjoined and Obama has already issued 664,607 Social Security cards. Less than 1% of recipients have been interviewed in person and a number of security risks and criminals have already been granted the gateway to our welfare and tax benefit programs.

And with regards to the Ohio case, there is an even more disturbing revelation. Razo would have been eligible for another amnesty Obama implemented in 2013 and expanded this past month.

Not only does federal law require that all illegal aliens be deported (8 U.S.C. § 1225), those who are caught living here illegally for more than a year are barred from reinterring the country legally for 10 years [8 USC § 1182(a)(9)(B)(iii)]. Section V of that same title provides a waiver to circumvent the 10-year bar if the illegal has a spouse or parent who is a citizen or legal resident AND “if it is established to the satisfaction of the Attorney General that the refusal of admission to such immigrant alien would result in extreme hardship to the citizen or lawfully resident spouse or parent of such alien.”

Obviously, the fact that not every case of splitting up a family is automatically deemed an “extreme hardship,” rather it requires a separate and additional burden of proof, shows that this waiver was supposed to be used sparingly. Also, it was not meant to allow anyone to remain here illegally, just that once these illegal immigrants return home first they can apply for a waiver against the bar to reentry. On March 4, 2013, Obama granted carte blanche amnesty to illegal aliens with parents or spouses who are citizens, plus he added a category of children who are citizens (in direct violation of the law). He made a mockery out of the extreme hardship requirement and allowed them all to de facto stay here legally and wait for a green card. Earlier this month, he expanded this to all relatives of legal residents, opening up an entirely new path to green cards that didn’t otherwise exist (citizens can already bring in relatives, but legal residents don’t have that ability).

Now it has been revealed that the father of the Ohio shooter is a naturalized U.S. citizen. Consequently, under Obama’s new abuse of power, he would be eligible for amnesty.

2. Last week in Montana, Jesus Yeizon Deniz Mendoza, an immigrant from Mexico, gunned down a Montana couple in front of their daughter in cold blood. Jason and Tana Shane stopped on the road to help what appeared to be a stranded pedestrian, but it was really an illegal immigrant who had already been convicted of burglary. When the Shane’s had no money to offer him, Deniz shot them as their daughter ran away injured as well. According to the Washington Times, Deniz was not deported because he was somehow legalized by the Obama administration in 2013. Even if he was legitimately granted legal status, the fact that he was arrested for burglary thereafter should have made him deportable pursuant to 8 U.S.C. § 1227 (a)(2), which requires the deportation of green card holders who commit crimes punishable up to a year in prison.

3. Last Sunday, Jose Orlando Garcia, an illegal alien from Mexico, broke into a Charlotte, North Carolina home, abducted a 6-year-old girl and attempted to rape her. There is a total media blackout about his immigration status and criminal history but he is now being held on detention by ICE – after the damage has already done.

4. On Saturday, a 16-year old “Dreamer” set a police car ablaze in Pearland, Texas, the same city where Joshua Wilkerson was tortured to death by another Dreamer in 2010. He was reportedly tired of ICE deporting Mexicans back to Mexico and “tired of his people getting shot by police and nothing happening, so he came to shoot them.”

When was the last time in our history there was a president who suspended immigration enforcement and our nation was forced to suffer from such avoidable, yet tragic consequences? Why do elected Republicans tolerate this for even one more day? How can they pass a budget bill in September funding the Department of Homeland Security until Obama commits to ending this amnesty?

There are many ills that plague this country and there is a limit to what can be done about them in the real world. But why should we tolerate the violent criminals of another country for even one day? This is so avoidable.

Yet, there is no serious effort in Congress to put an end to this insanity. Together with the funding for Planned Parenthood, there will be a lot of blood on the hands of those who have abdicated the congressional power over the purse. And it starts with Boehner and McConnell. (Re-posted with permission from the author, “How Can Congress Let This Continue Even One More Day?”, originally appeared HERE)

TV Legend Gives These Strong Opinions About American Life

Legendary TV producer Norman Lear stopped by the Televisison Critics Association’s press tour in Beverly Hills to promote an upcoming PBS documentary covering his career that’s set to debut next year. But what seemed to most impress reporters was the 93-year-old’s opinionated tangents, covering politics, TV, America and mindfullness. Below are six highlights from a press conference with the creator of hits like All in the Family, The Jeffersons and One Day at a Time:

— On politics: “Everybody knows me to be a progressive or a liberal or lefty or whatever. I think of myself as a bleeding-heart conservative. You will not f— with my Bill of Rights, my Constitution, my guarantees of political justice for all. But does my heart bleed for those who need help and aren’t getting the justice that the country promises them and the equal opportunity the country promises? Yes. I’m a bleeding heart, but I think myself to be a total social conservative. The people who are running just don’t seem to have America on their minds, not the America I think about. When I was a kid we were in love with America. As early as I can remember, there was a civics class in my public school. And I was in love with those things that guaranteed freedom before I learned that there were people who hated me because I was Jewish. I had a Bill of Rights and a Constitution, those words out of the Declaration that protected me. And I knew about that because we had civics in class. We don’t have that much in the country anymore. So before World War II or shortly after, we were in love with America because we understood what it was about and that’s what we were in love with. I believe everybody’s patriotic today. Everybody loves America. But I don’t need their flag plans to prove it. I’d like to go back to civics lessons.”

— On waking up: “I want to wake up feeling as I usually do, loving the day. The title of my book is Even This I Get to Experience, and that’s the way I basically look at life moment to moment. And now I’m looking out at you. I was 93 on Monday. So it took me 93 [years] and five days to get here. It took you every split second of each of your lives to get here for me. So I’m way ahead of you. It took all your lives to get here, so this moment is the moment. Even this we get to experience.”

— On the Golden Age of television: “I think this is the Golden Age. I understand what the Golden Age was when I was coming into television, and it was those years of Playhouse 90 and Philco Playhouse. But there’s great drama and some great comedy on television today. I can’t see it all.”

The Mask Has Slipped for Planned Parenthood

The conscience of much of our country is shocked in the wake of new undercover videos showing high-ranking Planned Parenthood officials discussing how the nation’s largest abortion provider goes about harvesting organs from the babies it aborts. More videos will be released over the next few weeks, but the first one shows a Planned Parenthood official hammering out the price of each organ — hearts, lungs, livers — to undercover reporters posing as buyers looking to use the organs for scientific research.

Planned Parenthood calls these organs “tissue donations” and claims to make no money off the deals. That said, one Planned Parenthood official — in the second video — is shown haggling over prices and even pushing a potential buyer to make the first offer so as to keep the upper hand in the negotiation process.

The first video shows a top Planned Parenthood leader dining at a restaurant, wine in hand, as she casually eats salad and discusses how best to abort a baby without “crushing” valuable internal organs that might be “donated” for a price of $30 to $100 each.

While most traditional news outlets are downplaying the significance of the footage, it has taken social media by storm, inspiring a push for national, state and local investigations into Planned Parenthood and calls to strip the organization of its taxpayer-funded grants and contracts.

Planned Parenthood’s national president Cecile Richards has released several responses to the videos, as have local affiliates, including Planned Parenthood of the Great Northwest that runs abortion facilities in Alaska.

Most striking about these responses is that they make no attempt to address the shocking moral concerns raised in the videos, namely that a company kills unborn babies, places a price on their body parts and then extracts them for scientific research. Rather than address these stark revelations, Richards simply attacks the messenger as releasing “deceptive, dishonest videos,” which she claims are “heavily edited.” She urges supporters to help fight “dangerous misinformation and lies from extremists” who wish to defund Planned Parenthood, a company that enjoyed $540 million from taxpayer-funded grants in 2013.

The problem with Planned Parenthood’s responses is that they are plainly false, even to many who approve of abortion.

The videos don’t lie. They are released in both shorter, eight to nine minute clips, as well as in full length, unedited versions. Additionally, the videos are accompanied by full transcripts. Any claims that they are “heavily edited” fall flat in light of this extensive effort for full transparency.

So we are left with hard facts and a decision to make. Do we as a nation, as Alaskans, as local towns and communities across our state want our public money to go toward funding a company which commits acts so grisly they are difficult even to speak of?

Planned Parenthood points out that it provides breast exams, cancer screenings and sex-education, and that without taking in millions in federal, state and local funds at-risk women will be left in the lurch with nowhere to turn for these services. This, too, is misleading. There are many medical providers who offer these other services. We should demand that tax dollars go to organizations that do not sear the conscience by killing unborn human beings and harvesting their organs for science.

As Alaskans we can visit, write, call and email our national, state and local representatives, asking that they prohibit Planned Parenthood from contracting with our local schools, community service outreaches and government-run health programs. We have options when it comes to legitimate health care. Planned Parenthood is not one them. Op-Ed: Obama Knows Iran Will Use Its Nukes on Israel

At first, Obama said we couldn’t talk about his Iranian Nuke Deal unless it was finalized. Then, Obama said we couldn’t talk about his Iranian Nuke Deal unless we read it all – and simply didn’t disclose all of his side-deals. Now, he says Mike Huckabee’s comparison of shipping the Jews of Israel to the new ovens of the Iranian Auschwitz-Nuke is “ridiculous.”

Perhaps Obama wants to wait until Iran nukes Israel for it to be politically correct to call Iran’s wiping Israel off the map a “Holocaust.” But, make no mistake, Obama knows full well that Iran intends to wipe Israel off the map with its Obama-blessed Nukes.

Come on, does anyone (except the American left-wing cool-aid drinking Jews) really believe that Iran will abide by their “voluntary” protocols under the Vienna announcement? Of course not! Are Obama or any of the European Union leaders so rank stupid and naïve that they think Iran won’t build a bomb just like North Korea? Does anyone not know that one of Iran’s first targets will be to annihilate Israel?

Of course Obama knows Iran will seek to annihilate Israel, so that must be what Obama wants. (Read more from “Op-Ed: Obama Knows Iran Will Use Its Nukes on Israel” HERE)

Salon Columnist: How Bill Clinton Is Like Bill Cosby

Camille Paglia, the political and cultural critic, has been a brave and brilliant provocateur on Salon for almost 20 years now. Paglia seemed to be on the winning side of the wars over feminism and political correctness in the 1990s, but recently those battles have been reopened. Suddenly we’re talking again and in very different ways about sexual culture on campus. Comedians like Jerry Seinfeld and Bill Maher talk about the return of a stifling political correctness. And we’re staring at the potential rematch of a Clinton and a Bush.

There were so many stories that we wanted Paglia’s take on: Bill Cosby, Donald Trump, the state of the Democratic Party. So we spent two hours discussing all of them on Monday, and we’ll present her thoughts over the next three days. Stand back: Paglia does not hold back on anything.

Over the next two days, she’ll hold forth on the GOP presidential field in devastating ways, and offer surprising thoughts on how she thinks Clinton vs Sanders will end. We start today with thoughts on Bill Cosby, Bill Clinton, campus political correctness and modern feminism.

The banner on the Drudge Report this morning is that Kathleen Willey is starting a site to collect harassment claims against Bill Clinton. New York magazine, meanwhile, has the stories of 35 women who say they were raped or assaulted by Bill Cosby. I wonder if you see a connection between the two stories: Would Bill Clinton’s exploits be viewed more like Cosby’s if he was in the White House now, instead of in the 1990s?

Right from the start, when the Bill Cosby scandal surfaced, I knew it was not going to bode well for Hillary’s campaign, because young women today have a much lower threshold for tolerance of these matters. The horrible truth is that the feminist establishment in the U.S., led by Gloria Steinem, did in fact apply a double standard to Bill Clinton’s behavior because he was a Democrat. The Democratic president and administration supported abortion rights, and therefore it didn’t matter what his personal behavior was. You Won’t Believe This Stunning and Credible Theory on the Secret Iranian Nuclear Side Deals

By Doug Ross. John Kerry is lying when he claims he doesn’t know what is in the Iranian side deals. He would rather pretend ignorance than admit their contents.

No one calls the ruling class on their lies. With a dysfunctional media — that is now fully intertwined with the government — the American people are left bereft of real news and thoughtful analysis.

We live in an alternate reality. Nothing is real, except their lies and only their lies. Lies are now the truth.

As for me, I believe the secret side deals with Iran are quite specific. Incredibly specific.

And I believe they call for an international military alliance and a protective force for Iran. An international force, sponsored by the United Nations.

And that deal is to protect Iran… from Israel.

We already knew this administration represented an existential threat to Israel, from its calls for pre-1967 “Holocaust borders” to its repeated intelligence leaks.

This sets the stage, ladies and gentlemen, for global aggression. Against Israel. And reprisals. Financial. Diplomatic. Even the boys in blue, firing their weapons for the very first time in recorded history.

Against the Jews.

It’s called Armageddon.

U.S. Secretary of State Suggests America Could Use Military Force Against Israel

By Lauren Richardson. U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry indirectly agreed that the U.S. would defend Iran’s nuclear program from Israeli sabotage on Thursday, in a hearing at the Senate Foreign Relations Committee where he was grilled over the Iran nuclear deal.

When Senator Marco Rubio pushed Kerry for an answer if the U.S. would use military force to protect Iran from Israel, Kerry would not answer. His answer was “we will be coordinating very closely,” and “wait till we get to that point.”

That is as dangerous as Nancy Pelosi saying, ‘but we have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it away from the fog,’ about Obamacare and look how well that turned out.

Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) put Kerry on the spot when he asked him and Secretary of Energy Ernest Moniz whether the controversial articles in Annex III on page 142 of the 159-page deal would stipulate that the U.S. block Israeli attempts to scupper the Iranian nuclear threat. In his ruling on same-sex marriage, Justice Anthony Kennedy discovered what I call the “Oprah Winfrey Clause” in the 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which bars any law that might inflict “dignitary” harm on any citizen.

To respect the dignity of the 1.5 percent of Americans who are same-sex attracted, and from among them whatever slice really craves the lifelong, monogamous covenant of marriage, a majority of the Court was willing to rewrite the Constitution, overrule the sovereignty of 50 states, steamroll over voters and imperil the religious liberty of Americans. Those judges were willing to dump orthodox Christianity into the same fever swamp as white supremacism, and marginalize the faiths that founded America, tacitly granting the point of Obama’s Solicitor General that recalcitrant churches might share the fate of those that once rejected interracial unions — losing their tax exemptions, since they don’t serve the public good.

So the human dignity of our minority groups is really, really important in America, right? Organizations that don’t promote it don’t serve the public good. Is that what we’re meant to believe?

So why does the U.S. government pour $528 million per year (as of 2014) into a supposedly non-profit “charity” like Planned Parenthood, which was founded by racist eugenicists, which aborts hundreds of thousands of Americans every year — and which we now know, thanks to a sting video released today by the Center for Medical Progress, sells baby parts for profit, even haggling with customers over the price? This, by the way, is the second of their undercover videos of Planned Parenthood. The first was equally disturbing.

There is no rational case to be made that Planned Parenthood serves the public good. As more facts emerge, it’s becoming clear that it is engaged in the lowest, most ghoulish form of human trafficking imaginable.

It is hard to wrap our heads around this. The details are so sickening that you don’t want to watch the videos. What sane person would? The Allies in World War II were likewise at first incredulous when reports from Jewish escapees from Hitler’s Europe began to expose the full extent of the Final Solution, as historian Walter Laqueur documented in The Terrible Secret. If men such as Churchill and Roosevelt had trouble accepting the truth about a regime they knew was evil, whose utter defeat they hastened by firebombing its cities, why should we be surprised that this new truth is so difficult to grasp?

The villains this time aren’t foreigners in outlandish uniforms who hold menacing torch lit rallies and worship Wotan. They are pretty, well-coiffed women like Planned Parenthood’s Cecile Richards, and spunky legislators in pink running shoes like former Texas State Senator Wendy Davis. They are also self-styled Catholic politicians like Joseph Biden and Nancy Pelosi, who talk all the time about social justice and helping the poor. They include a president who sings “Amazing Grace” inside a church.

They are affable policy wonks like Steven Levitt and Stephen Dunbar, whose specious argument in Freakonomics purported to “prove” that legal abortion explains the drop in the crime rate. They are the neighbors we run into at Olive Garden, who worry about the need for “paring back the welfare rolls” and write checks to groups like Planned Parenthood that promise to help. They are normal, even nice people who spook themselves into thinking that restricting abortion would somehow bring back an age of sexual “repression” and hypocrisy. Their very normality fools us and lulls us to sleep.

This has happened before. In 1830, when the British Empire finally outlawed slavery, Parliament was only able to pass such a bill if it agreed to compensate slaveowners for the value of their “property.” In a noble expenditure, the British government devoted 40 percent of its budget that year to paying the price of freedom — which was doled out to some 46,000 British owners of black slaves in the Caribbean, including the ancestors of novelist George Orwell and Prime Minister David Cameron. These people weren’t moustache-twirling wielders of whips in the field, but ordinary Englishmen who had invested in a “business overseas” that produced sugar, tobacco or rum. It just happened to be the business of squeezing cheap labor out of black people at the point of a gun.

It had required a 30-year religious crusade on the part of men such as William Wilberforce, and a crushing bill to be paid by British taxpayers in 1830, to end Britain’s role in exploiting slaves. Part of the reason this reform took so long was the sheer unwillingness of people to look at evil squarely, to see that its tendrils extended into their neighborhoods and their bank accounts, their churches and their Parliament.

We Americans are lucky. We don’t need to spend some 40 percent of next year’s budget to end Planned Parenthood’s taxpayer funded role in human organ trafficking. In fact, we can save the taxpayers $1.4 million dollars a day by cutting off that organization’s public funding. Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) has bravely stepped forward among other legislators who seek to defund Planned Parenthood as part of upcoming negotiations over U.S. highway funding. The next step should be to revoke the profiteering Planned Parenthood’s tax exemption as a nonprofit.

We can do this. It would save us a half-billion dollars. It would make every American’s hands just a little bit cleaner. That doesn’t mean it will be easy. The Obama administration has already doubled down in defense of Planned Parenthood, whose organ sales it called “ethical.” We will have to look long and hard at the monster that we have been feeding, petting and training. We will need to be a little bit ashamed of ourselves. We need to in order to galvanize our attention for longer than a news cycle or two.

The enemies of life will not rest in their pursuit of a culture of death. Neither can we. (Posted with permission of the author, “Human Dignity Is Priceless, but Baby Organs Start at $74.99”, originally appeared HERE)

The Metaphysics of Caitlyn and Planned Parenthood

I had a very of-the-moment experience the other night at bedtime in my hotel room. After reading about the unmitigated horror of Planned Parenthood’s customized cannibalizing of fetal body parts, I toggled over to the ESPN site to watch the propaganda video the network made to set up its awarding Caitlyn Jenner its Arthur Ashe Courage Prize.

I encourage you to watch the clip, which is about 13 minutes long. It is a remarkable piece of work, and profoundly indicative of the deepest metaphysical assumptions of Western culture today. Jenner’s heroism, according to the film, consists in his dramatic refusal of Nature — of imposing his own will and desires on nature so profoundly that he repudiates his own nature as a male. Jenner retains his male genitalia, and, of course, maleness in his genes. In other words, everything about Jenner’s material existence (that is, his existence in his body) is male. But Jenner thinks of himself as female, and presents himself publicly as a female. He believes that what he wishes to believe about himself is who he really is, in terms of his gender. And our culture has decided that someone who wishes to assert that he or she is actually of the opposite gender than his or her body, that not only is that person conforming to the Truth — courageously, against the opposition of tradition, religion, society, and so forth — but that courage in part consists of that very willingness to impose one’s will on Nature, to make it serve our desires.

If you watch the Jenner video, he/she keeps saying things like, “This is who I am” and “I had to be who I really am.” I’m not making fun of this; clearly Jenner believes this quite deeply. The images in the video in which s/he is presented as a lone conquering hero are crushingly sad; Jenner comes across as a defaced person lost in the desert, someone who thinks s/he is free, but who doesn’t seem free at all. The culture now seems to have accepted as self-evidently true that one’s gender is whatever one wants it to be. To assert this implies a metaphysical view that is radically at odds with classical (including Christian) metaphysics, which holds that nature is not mere stuff that we can fashion as we like, and impose our own meaning onto it, but rather that nature in some mysterious way reflects things as they actually are.

In the new edition of the (unfailingly excellent) Mars Hill Audio Journal, Ken Myers interviews philosopher Roger Scruton, who talks about the implicit atheism of contemporary culture, and how we are “defacing” Nature by denying — whether we realize it or not — that there is intrinsic, metaphysical meaning in matter. Driving home from the airport last night, listening to the Journal, a line from Scruton jumped out at me:

“As soon as we begin to understand how the human person, as it were, defines himself apart from the natural order, till we do that, we won’t begin to see exactly where the limits of scientific investigation lie.”
