Evolutionary Idiocy: Scientist Claim Humans Emerged after Chimps Mated with Pigs

Photo Credit: ShutterstockOne of the world’s leading authorities on genetics says the human race was born into existence after a chimpanzee mated with a pig.

Dr. Eugene McCarthy’s stunning claims were made in an online article, although it was not clear when the startling findings was initially published.

According to the University of Georgia scientist, while human beings share a number of characteristics with chimpanzees, there are others that don’t correspond with the primates.

“What is this other animal that has all these traits? The answer is Sus scrofa – the ordinary pig,”…

Shopper Horrified after Discovering Black Widow in Grapes

Photo Credit: aol.comThe recent black widow in grapes discovery prompted Aldi Supermarkets to remove all the red, green and black grapes from stores in Milwaukee, the largest city in the state of Wisconsin. The company has promised to strengthen inspections on their products after an unsuspecting shopper spotted a black widow in a clear container of red grapes that was on sale, according to a Nov. 22 report from Milwaukee-Wisconsin Journal Sentinel.

Creepy Google Glass Pics Without Anyone Knowing? Yes, You Can

Photo Credit: Chris Barrett/PRserve Screenshot by Chris Matyszczyk/CNETI have come to terms with the notion that we will all soon be wearing glasses in order to surf the Web, check messages, and pretend we work at Google.

Some, though, are still concerned that the glasses offer too much opportunity to photograph or film people surreptitiously.

Defenders of the Google faith point out that no, no, you can tell when the glasses are in use. There’s a light that beams to the world.

A twisted few find this unfortunate. They want to be cleverer than thou and more creepy than thou.

May I present, therefore, the very fine Google Glass 3D Printed Sunshade?

Everyday People Suddenly Taking Steps to Prepare for Turbulent Times

Photo Credit: naturalnews.comIt’s not just “fringe” types and end-of-the-world religious prognosticators; more and more “everyday people” are sensing that something is wrong with their country and the world, and are taking steps to prepare for turbulent times.

Yes, technically they are “preppers” in today’s lexicon, but they are far from the kind of people that that term engenders. In fact, some of these “newbies” might even be your neighbors.

As reported by Fortune/CNN:

More and more Americans are spending money to get ready for an uncertain future — gathering food, water, tools and skills to help them weather anything from a hurricane to a pandemic.

Contrary to images of deluded or gun-obsessed “lone wolves,” many preppers are average consumers reacting to concrete worries, and their way of thinking is spreading, fueling an emerging lifestyle trend. That lifestyle is generating demand for a broad spectrum of products offering survival — or even comfort — when large-scale systems go down.

Modern Day Cannibalism? Scientists Plan to Produce Gelatin from Human DNA

Photo Credit: ALAMYReports last week that researchers could be just six months away from producing the world’s first artificial meat, using thousands of stem cells bred in a laboratory, sent a wave of fascination around the world. Yet there is an even more ghoulish prospect ahead: the idea of eating artificial food made from humans.

This may sound like science fiction, yet a new technique for making gelatin from human DNA is attracting “increasing interest from research and industrial circles”, according to a new study by scientists from the Beijing University of Chemical Technology. The paper, published recently in the Journal of Agriculture and Food Chemistry, revealed that successful experiments had been carried out in which human genes were inserted into a strain of yeast to “grow” large amounts of recombinant (genetically engineered) human gelatin.

Gelatin has a long history of use as a gelling agent by the food industry – and, according to the journal’s publisher, the American Chemical Society, human-derived gelatin “could become a substitute for some of the 300,000 tons of animal-based gelatin produced annually for desserts, marshmallows, candy and innumerable other products”.

There would be safety issues to consider. When an ice-cream parlour in London began selling flavours derived from human breast milk earlier this year, it was soon withdrawn for hygiene reasons. The Food Standards Agency said: “There would be a restriction on the sale or import of this type of product, because it would require a pre-market safety assessment.”

However, scientists do not believe that the new gelatin product would pose any risk. “There’s a very high degree of similarity between gelatin that comes from a cow, a pig, and a human,” explains Dr David Olsen, senior scientist at FibroGen, which specialises in recombinant gelatins. “So due to their similarities, I can’t see why there would be a health risk to it. It’s a very similar protein to what people have been ingesting for many years.”

Motorola Wants to Patent a Microphone Tattoo for Neck to Make Calls Clearer in Noisy Places

Photo Credit: UPTO/Motorola Forget Google Glass, smartwatches and even the biohacker who inserted a microchip under his skin, Motorola is hoping to trump them all with its microphone tattoo.

According to a patent filed by the Google-owned phone maker, the tattoo would be placed onto a person’s throat and pick sounds created by their voice.

If the user is making a phone call, the tattoo would then send these sounds wirelessly to the smartphone and the caller.

The patent is called ‘Coupling an electronic skin tattoo to a mobile communication device’ and was originally filed in May last year.

Throughout the patent, Motorola calls the device ‘electronic tattoo 110’ and said it would ‘comprise audio circuitry that enables reception of acoustic signals from a person’s throat’.

Massive Great White Shark Returns to Dixie

Photo Credit: ocearch.orgAround this time last year, one of the Atlantic’s most famous great white sharks entered Southern waters for the first time since the crew at the non-profit OCEARCH tagged her.

Mary Lee, as the 16-foot, 3,500-lb shark is known, has since shown a clear affection for the South. Though she spent the early part of the year exploring the waters off New England, then circling Bermuda and the mid-Atlantic, she has spent the summer and fall off the coasts of the Carolinas. According to the most recent pings from her tracking device, she spent last night nestled in the shallow waters of St. Helena Sound, just south of Charleston, South Carolina, and has now moved back offshore.

Trans Fat Fallout: Will Food Taste Worse?

Photo Credit: ReutersIt’s no secret trans fats are unhealthy. But now that the Food and Drug Administration is pushing to remove them from the food supply, there may be some unintended consequences: America’s favorite snacks won’t last as long on grocery store shelves, they could be more expensive, and they might not taste as good.

The fact that FDA said Thursday a widely used ingredient should no longer be considered safe represents one of the most sweeping actions the agency has taken in recent years.

And American consumers could very well see — and taste — a difference.

Take Pop Secret popcorn. Partially hydrogenated oils is on the list of ingredients and the nutrition facts show there are 5 grams of trans fat per serving.

But that’s just one of many popular products that likely would have to undergo a reformulation. Other products with labels that show they possess trans fats, according to a recent article in Health Magazine, include: Duncan Hines buttercream frosting, Bisquick’s original pancake mix, Kid Cuisine All American Fried Chicken meal and Häagen-Dazs caramel cone ice cream.
