“A Message Signed With Blood to the Nation of the Cross”: US Condemns Another Horrific ISIS Video

By Hasani Gittens and M. Alex Johnson. The U.S. condemned the videotaped beheading of 21 Egyptian Christians kidnapped in Libya, explicitly blaming ISIS-affiliated terrorists Sunday for the “wanton killing of innocents.”

The Egyptians, dressed in orange jump suits, were beheaded after being forced down on the ground on a beach. An early caption in the video says the location is “Wilayat Tarabulus by the Mediterranean Sea,” which suggests that it was filmed near Tripoli.

Each of the victims, who are all male, is paired with a masked, knife-wielding terrorist and, after a brief statement by the ISIS leader, they are all beheaded.

The video is called “A Message signed with blood to the nation of the cross” and was released by the group’s Al-Hayat Media Center, according to Flashpoint Intelligence, a global security firm and NBC News consultant. (Read more about the horrific ISIS video HERE)

ISIS Seizes Iraqi Town 5 Miles From Marine Base

By Fox News. Islamic State has reportedly seized al-Baghdadi, in Iraq’s Anbar Province, 5 miles from an air base staffed by U.S. Marines, as the terror group continues its push beyond its bases in Syria and Iraq in an attempt to establish militant affiliates in other countries.

Hundreds of Islamic State fighters reportedly captured most of al-Baghdadi, which is 55 miles from the capital Ramadi, on Thursday.

On Friday, Iraqi soldiers had retaken several government buildings, but the soldiers withdrew early Saturday, handing the town back to the militants, The New York Times reported, citing local security officials.

One local Iraqi official told Reuters that, “Ninety percent of al-Baghdadi district has fallen under the control of the insurgents.”

Militants attacked the town of al-Baghdadi from two directions before advancing inward, Reuters reported. (Read more about the town ISIS seizes HERE)

[Page 2] Proof that American Democracy is Dead, the Oligarchs Rule

Compare King to would-be president Jeb Bush, a stronger advocate of pre-emptive surrender than Foxx:

I’d just add a little dose of reality. If you control one-half of one-third of leverage in Washington, D.C., your ability to influence things are [sic] also relative to the fact that you have one-half of one-third of the government … politically it’s quite dicey for the Republican Party.

Note the fear of “dicey” reality “for the Republican Party.” RINO reality is fear and appeasement.

Condescending lectures pretending to be “realistic” fail to note the critical distinction between enacting and blocking legislation. The Constitution was designed to impede the former and facilitate the latter. Blocking funds for Obama-Boehner Care does not require enacting anything. It simply requires refusal of 50.1% of “one half of one third of the federal government” to use its absolute power to refuse to appropriate money by law. RINOs live in fear (when not bullying professed conservatives who live in even greater fear). It tellingly illustrates this fear that the likes of Jeb Bush quake at hallucinations that the president or the senate could reject what a majority of voting representatives have not approved.

Disingenuous Rationalizations

Especially for House members, who have two-year terms, it is not enough to fool voters with false promises. The next step is to fool them about why — and even whether — promises were broken. Here are a few of the disingenuous explanations given by professed non-RINOs for voting to retain the worst RINO of them all.

· Displaying abysmal ignorance, Mia Love initially claimed, but later retracted, that a vote for a Republican other than Boehner would make Nancy Pelosi Speaker.

· Rep. Mulvaney’s statement had so many lies that an outraged Mark Levin easily smashed it to smithereens. Especially noteworthy is that, in implying that he had been fooled into voting against Boehner in 2013, this liar accused his colleagues of being liars. In 2013, he abstained.

· Many representatives claimed to be bound by November’s House Republican Conference vote for Boehner, and that there had not been a long campaign for an alternative. In fact, the conference was well before Boehner’s unanticipated deceitful and high-handed mid-December antics that so outraged conservatives weeks before the Speaker election. These antics included amnesty trickery and begging Obama for help in recruiting Democrat Cromnibus final passage votes.

· The claim that there was no viable alternative is belied by the fact that Boehner’s opponents only sought to block a majority, so that there would be a second vote. If it became clear that Boehner could not get a majority, Republicans would then have had another conference to select an alternative (True conservatives would take offense at the idea that Louie Gohmert was unacceptable).

Make no mistake about it. A major priority of the Republican majorities in the 114th Congress will be to con voters into believing that broken promises were kept or that failure to keep them was not their fault. (Go back to page 1 of “American Democracy is Dead” HERE)

Chief Justice Roy Moore Defies Feds, Urges Alabama’s Judges to Refuse Gay Marriage Licenses

By Sandhya Somashekhar. On the day that same-sex unions became legal in Alabama, local officials in dozens of counties on Monday defied a federal judge’s decision and refused to issue marriage licenses to gay couples, casting the state into judicial chaos.

Gay couples were able to get licenses in about a dozen places, including Birmingham, Huntsville and a few other counties where probate judges complied with the judge’s decision. The U.S. Supreme Court ruled early Monday that it would deny Alabama’s request to put the marriages on hold.

But in the majority of counties, officials said they would refuse to license same-sex marriages or stop providing licenses altogether, confronting couples — gay and heterosexual — with locked doors and shuttered windows.

Many of the state’s 68 probate judges mounted their resistance to the federal decision at the urging of the firebrand chief justice of the Alabama Supreme Court, Roy Moore. He is best known for refusing more than a decade ago to comply with a court order to remove a monument to the Ten Commandments from the state Supreme Court’s offices.

In Mobile, about 10 gay couples who had expected to be granted licenses first thing in the morning found the marriage-license window closed indefinitely. (Read more about the refusal to marry homosexual couples HERE)

Alabama’s Largest Paper Mocks Christian Judge: Is Roy Moore a Closeted Homosexual?

By Tim Graham. The Birmingham News is the largest newspaper in Alabama (even though it only publishes a print edition three times a week now.) That could be in part due to leftist pranks. The chief justice of the Alabama Supreme Court, Roy Moore, has defiantly ordered a halt on gay marriage licenses, prompting News commentator Kyle Whitmire to offer a Readers Poll on Sunday asking “Is Roy Moore a closeted homosexual?”

Liberals apparently love this question, because the poll results are 71 percent yes, 6 percent no, and 22 percent “Maybe, but just that one time in college.” It probably won’t be shocking to note that until he joined the News, Whitmire was a stringer for The New York Times for seven years (2005-12).

Moore, a Baptist married with four children, is best known for insisting on having the Ten Commandments posted in his courtroom, leading to court fights with secularists — and popularity with Alabama voters. Reports of Massive Explosion in Ukraine, Likely not Tactical Nuke, but Obama Shaken [+videos]

Ukraine: Artillery Fire, Not ‘Tactical Nuke’ Attack, Sets Off Large Donetsk Explosion

[Editor’s note: A number of sites, such as Alex Jones’ Info Wars, suggested that the explosion was nuclear, but that seems to be a stretch. Nuclear detonations create significant EMP (electro-magnetic pulse) that would almost certainly have destroyed the electronic cameras recording the events.]

On Sunday night, a series of YouTube videos appear to show a large explosion in Donetsk, Ukraine (several can be watched here). However, it wasn’t a “tactical nuclear weapon,” as some social media users claimed, but just a big blast–reportedly Ukrainian army artillery fire hitting an ammunition depot held by the rebel Donetsk People’s Republic.

Videos that were uploaded Feb. 8 show a massive explosion going off in the distance, with an orange-red fireball lighting up the night sky.

While many details remain unclear, preliminary reports say it was a an artillery attack on a weapons depot owned by the breakaway Donetsk People’s Republic. According to Ukrainian news site TSN.ua, right-wing politician Dmitry Yarosh said the blast killed about “200 terrorists,” destroyed 20 Grad rockets, and trucks filled with ammunition. New York Times Warn About Russia “Nuclear Saber Rattling” in Ukraine

By JOHN J. MEARSHEIMERFEB. The possibility that Mr. Putin might end up making nuclear threats may seem remote, but if the goal of arming Ukraine is to drive up the costs of Russian interference and eventually put Moscow in an acute situation, it cannot be ruled out. If Western pressure succeeded and Mr. Putin felt desperate, he would have a powerful incentive to try to rescue the situation by rattling the nuclear saber.

Our understanding of the mechanisms of escalation in crises and war is limited at best, although we know the risks are considerable. Pushing a nuclear-armed Russia into a corner would be playing with fire.

Advocates of arming Ukraine recognize the escalation problem, which is why they stress giving Kiev “defensive,” not “offensive,” weapons. Unfortunately, there is no useful distinction between these categories: All weapons can be used for attacking and defending. The West can be sure, though, that Moscow will not see those American weapons as “defensive,” given that Washington is determined to reverse the status quo in eastern Ukraine.

The only way to solve the Ukraine crisis is diplomatically, not militarily. Germany’s chancellor, Angela Merkel, seems to recognize that fact, as she has said Germany will not ship arms to Kiev. Her problem, however, is that she does not know how to bring the crisis to an end. (Read more from this story HERE)

When Will Obama Finally Get Angry at Radical Islam?

By Liz Peek. America wants to know, when is President Obama going to get angry? When is he going to slam his fist on the desk, demand vengeance, put aside his incessant campaigning and call out the Islamic radicals of ISIS as the animals they are?

Interrupted in the course of yet another photo-op on the benefits of ObamaCare, the president looked almost irritated Tuesday to be asked his reaction to the murder of the Jordanian pilot, shown on an Internet video being burned alive by ISIS.

He talked calmly about the “bankrupt ideology” of this “organization,” like he was addressing unhealthy menu choices at a fast food company. Where’s his outrage? (Read more about Obama’s reaction to radical Islam HERE)

Christian Militia Formed to Fight ISIS in Northern Iraq

By Jack Moore. Thousands of Iraqi Christians have established their own militia and are training to fight the Islamic State (ISIS) in the Nineveh Plains of northern Iraq.

The Nineveh Plains Protection Units (NPU) has 3,000 Assyrian Christian men registered to be trained, while another 500 are already training for combat. The militia was founded by the Iraqi political party, the Assyrian Democratic Movement.

Another 500 volunteers from the group are already situated in Assyrian villages in northern Iraq, the majority of which were captured by ISIS when they marched across the country last summer. Approximately 30,000 Christians have since fled the Nineveh Plains for fear of falling into the hands of the radical Islamists. (Read more from this story HERE)

Obama Declares War on Alaska: Designating 12+ Million ANWR Acres Off-Limits “Wilderness”

The Obama administration will propose setting aside more than 12 million acres in Alaska’s Arctic National Wildlife Refuge as wilderness, the White House announced Sunday, halting any chance of oil exploration for now in the refuge’s much-fought-over coastal plain and sparking a fierce battle with Republicans, including the new chair of the Senate Energy Committee.

“Alaska’s National Wildlife Refuge is an incredible place — pristine, undisturbed. It supports caribou and polar bears, all manner of marine life, countless species of birds and fish, and for centuries it supported many Alaska Native communities. But it’s very fragile,” President Obama said in a White House video on the move.

The announcement, according to individuals briefed on the plan, is just the first in a series of decisions the Interior Department will make in the coming week that will affect the state’s oil and gas production. The department will also put part of the Arctic Ocean off limits to drilling as part of a five-year leasing plan it will issue this week and is considering whether to impose additional limits on oil and gas production in parts of the National Petroleum Reserve-Alaska. Here’s Obama’s Touchy-Feely Message Supporting the ANWR Shutdown:

Exclusive: Canadian Stupidity Over Alaska’s Prince Rupert Ferry Terminal Stoking Tensions

It was reported in The Canadian Press and The Prince George Citizen that Prime Minister Stephen Harper of Canada has ostensibly directed his administration to take a precedent setting position in regards to the Alaskan operated ferry terminal in Prince Rupert, British Columbia. The Canadian administration’s opening salvo began with threatening to use a little known “Foreign Extraterritorial Measures Act,” in order to force the State of Alaska to acquiesce to demands that they use Canadian steel and other products during the construction of a 15 million dollar small ferry terminal.

If done in the manner demanded by the Harper Administration, the procurement of Canadian products will be in violation of the “Buy American Act” provisions embedded in U.S. Federal contracting law. A provision that Alaska Governor Bill Walker has made abundantly clear will not be waived.

Ferry operations by the Alaska Marine Highway System presents challenges at the Port of Prince Rupert. A number of problems with this port, along with additional regulations, add an exorbitant amount of cost to operations. Back on July 23, 1997 a large contingent of fishermen formed a blockade that held hostage the M/V Malaspina for two to three days while the fishermen burned American flags and yelled obscenities at the crew on the Alaskan ferry in protests related to allocation of Pacific salmon harvests. The blockade placed the crew of the vessel and three hundred passengers in fear of additional retaliation due to the belligerent behavior of the fishermen who acted in surprise and impunity of the local authorities . This action was instantly an international incident, which found the United States Senate voting 81-19 in favor of sending in the U.S. Navy to enforce the internationally-recognized Right of Innocent Passage.”

Ultimately cooler heads prevailed and former President Bill Clinton negotiated the “Pacific Salmon Treaty,” which initially was welcomed by both sides of the border, yet was ultimately abandoned in following years. During those hostilities, the blockade lasted until the fishing fleet, based in Prince Rupert, received assurances from their government to renew talks between the United States in regards to fisheries management .

At the time, then Alaskan Governor Tony Knowles engaged in meetings attended by a Canadian delegation including the Canadian Fisheries Minister, and the Washington State Governor as they arrived at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport to negotiate the fishing legislation addressing their respective jurisdictions and nations. There was a brief period of time where the State of Alaska suspended all operations in the Port of Prince Rupert, which lasted from the end of July to December 1997.

Ultimately, the parties agreed to the passage of the “Safe Passage” principle that focused on salmon fishing along the Alaskan coast and elsewhere. Eventually, apology letters with assurances from the Mayor of Prince Rupert and Canadian Fisheries Minister that the Canadians will prevent future blockades and give funding to rebuild the image of the Alaskan Ferry System in Canada. The Alaskan Ferry System relented on the suspension of ferry traffic to Prince Rupert, and operations resumed to the present day. Disneyland Measles Outbreak “Starting to Sweep the Country”

Photo Credit: CBS Baltimore By Christie Ileto. A health warning. The extremely contagious measles virus is back. An outbreak that started at Disneyland is starting to sweep the country.

Christie Ileto has the push for children to get vaccinated.

Measles was thought to have been eliminated in the U.S. 15 years ago. Now its back, targeting those who haven’t been immunized.

The outbreak that started in California’s Disneyland is expanding. At least 75 cases of measles span six states.

Arizona Medical Director on Measles: “One of the Most Contagious Diseases Known to Man”

By Connie Sexton. A recent but rare case of the measles in Maricopa County has health officials reminding the public of the disease’s potential harm and the benefits of being vaccinated.

“It’s one of the most contagious diseases known to man,” said Dr. Rebecca Sunenshine, the county’s medical director for disease control. Although measles are extremely rare, one in a thousand cases leads to inflammation around the brain, deafness and cognitive impairment, and one to two cases in a thousand are fatal, she said. “The measles vaccine is one of the best we have. No vaccine is perfect, but this is almost 100 percent perfect.”

County officials hope those who have never been vaccinated will do so now, in light of the news Thursday that a woman in her 50s living in the county tested positive for measles. Officials believe it’s likely the woman contracted the disease Dec. 15-20 while visiting Disneyland, which has been linked to an outbreak in California, Sunenshine said. [Page 3] Canadian Stupidity Over Alaska’s Prince Rupert Ferry Terminal Stoking Tensions

The Prince Rupert community financially benefits from all the mid-summer tourist traffic along with year-around service to their port. The historic friendship and good community relationships between Prince Rupert and Ketchikan include annual activities by the RCMP from Prince Rupert when the Mounties attend and march in the annual Fourth of July parade in Ketchikan and a host of other cooperative international exchanges. Overall, having a functioning Alaska Marine Highway System ferry facility in Prince Rupert has been a mutually beneficial relationship for both nations. For that matter, it was the United States that solely built and funded the Alaska-Canada Highway that Canadians enjoy today, and many tourists use to explore the countryside of British Columbia and Yukon Territory from Alaska.

Other issues to consider are international legal standards that apply to Alaska Marine Highway System vessels transiting international borders. All vessels engaged in international maritime trade and entering into Canadian ports must conform to the “Safety of Life at Sea” Convention adopted by the United States of American and Canada, among other maritime countries. These legal requirements are in addition to the typical legal statutes enforced by the United States Coast Guard that add a significant amount of cost to the procurement and maintenance of a vessel engaged in international trade. Under normal ferry operations, these additional international requirements could be reasonably argued as unnecessary. In order to operate to and from the Port of Prince Rupert, the Alaska Marine Highway System maintains three ships and crews with the international rating. They are the M/V, Kennicott, the M/V Taku, and the M/V Matanuska. All the other vessels in the fleet do not have these provisions and operate well without the additional international endorsement. Nor do the British Columbia ferries operate with the expensive international SOLAS amenities.

Given the gloomy financial prospects of the State of Alaska, and the sharp diminishment in oil revenues, all of the Alaska Marine Highway System operations need to be reexamined. All ideas should be reviewed including whether the long-term interests of Alaska would be best served by moving the Prince Rupert facility back to Hyder, Alaska. From that point, a smaller, cheaper, non-SOLAS ferry could permanently resolve this issue, effectively ending any future negative incursions of the Canadian authorities when it comes to how Alaska and the United States Government utilize their resources.

As it stands presently, if The Harper Administration along with B.C. Premier Christy Clark would like to dictate procurement policy to the Alaska Marine Highway System, they collectively are well within their means to allocate more than half the total cost, about 7.5 million US dollars, of the project to relieve the requirement of the “Buy American” provision. This would also end any need for future wasteful litigation costs. It was reported in CBC News that according to Edward Whalen, The President of the Canadian Institute of Steel Construction, that the local impact would be as follows, “American workers and materials to build the terminal in Prince Rupert could mean the potential loss of $80 million to the B.C. economy when taking into the ‘four-times multiplier’ into [sic] account.” If his posturing is correct and ignoring any potential conflicts of interest in his statement, Canada stands to gain almost ten times the economic benefit of contributing half the costs. The Canadian province would benefit by more than five times by building the facility solely utilizing Provincial funds.

Additionally, it is highly probable that Canadians will obtain and perform the work of rebuilding the terminal anyways. The Harper Administration’s selective enforcement of the “Foreign Extraterritorial Measures Act” will almost certainly only harm a Canadian contractor trying to make a living in tough economic times. A penalty that specifically calls for, according to Canadian sources, over a one hundred thousand dollar fine and five years of incarceration. The enforceability of Canadian demands under this act is also questionable, as this particular Canadian Law was not intended for use in this type of situation. This particular farcical policy embarked upon by the Prime Minister’s cabinet is as absolutely lopsided, and totally oblivious to the major financial contributions to Canada that not only come from the State of Alaska, but the United States as a whole.

On the balance, Prince Rupert gains substantially from Alaska Marine Highway System and associated transportation services. Prime Minister Harper would be well advised to find a mutually agreeable solution to this issue. In the end this is appears to be a very odd demonstration of force that is straining longstanding relations between two old allies over an issue that has nothing to do with genuine economics. We need to work together to resolve this issue or else Alaska should just get on with building a new ferry terminal in Hyder, Alaska as a substitute and as an alternative for Canadian intransigence. (To return to Page 1 of this story about the Prince Rupert Ferry Terminal, click HERE)
