NYC Motorcycle Road Rage Incident May Have Ruined a Large Investigation (+video)

Photo Credit: Modern RelicsThere were two more arrests in the biker road rage case in New York. One suspect is an undercover police detective, and has been charged in the attack. He is allegedly seen on video hitting and kicking an SUV, before the driver, Alexian Lien, was attacked.

CBS News senior correspondent John Miller, a former deputy commissioner with the New York Police Department, said on “CBS This Morning”: “This is a story that starts out as not such a good day (for the NYPD) because they had a detective on the scene who was undercover, who took no action to intervene, and then waited four days to come forward and say, ‘I was there.’ That got worse (on Tuesday) when they reviewed the videotapes they received this week from other sources other than the YouTube video we first saw, and they see their own detective allegedly banging out the back window of the SUV during the incidents that led up to the man being dragged from the car. So that really changed the calculus from, was this a departmental matter to a criminal matter.”

Turning to the police detective’s undercover status, Miller said not breaking cover is one of the officer’s primary jobs, but added, “that doesn’t mean that you can’t get in the middle and say, ‘Hey guys, break it up,’ or ‘let’s stop this.’ You don’t have to jump out and say, ‘I am a secret police officer’. ”

However, the officer was not only not intervening, he was allegedly part of the melee.

Riverside Cop Tricks Autistic Teen into Buying Pot (+video)

Photo Credit: YouTube “We felt like our family was totally violated by the sheriff’s department and the school district,” says Doug and Catherine Snodgrass of Temecula, California. Last December their 17-year-old autistic high school son was arrested after twice buying marijuana for an undercover Riverside county police officer.

The undercover operation, titled “Operation Glass House,” spanned a few months and included undercover officers in three area high schools: Chaparral, Temecula Valley, and Rancho Vista Continuation. The officers posed as regular high school students and would ask other students for drugs. Twenty-two students were arrested – the majority of them are reported to be special needs students like the Snodgrass’ son.

Their son, who wished to remain unnamed, is noticeably handicapped and has been diagnosed with autism as well as bipolar disorder, Tourettes, and several anxiety disorders…

His new friend, who went under the name of Daniel Briggs, was known as “Deputy Dan” to many students because it was so apparent to them that he was an undercover officer. However, to their son, whose disabilities make it hard for him to gauge social cues, Dan was his only real friend.

Dan reportedly sent 60 text messages to their son begging for drugs. According to his parents, the pressure to buy drugs was too much for the autistic teen who began physically harming himself.

Million Vet March on the Memorials Slated (+video)

Photo Credit: WNDVeterans first fought America’s wars, then they fought the National Park Service over White House-ordered closures of war memorials because of the partial shutdown of the federal government.

Now they’re developing a response to President Obama’s “war” against them: A rally.

The Million Vet March on the Memorials has announced plans for an event Sunday, Oct. 13, at 9 a.m. Eastern at the World War II memorial on the National Mall, the location where rangers under orders from the White House tried, unsuccessfully, to prevent vets from visiting in recent days.

Announcement said “Special Operations Speaks” will be taking the action because, “The Obama administration is using the government shutdown as an excuse to keep our veterans from acknowledging the debt owed to them and their predecessors. This is unforgivable. It is also unjustified, as no taxpayer funds are spent by keeping these shrines open. We will open them ourselves, if that’s what it takes.

“We know that there may be some degree of confrontation, given the anti-military attitude of the administration. It is our intention to avoid confrontation, and we request that you join us in avoiding any kind of physical contact with park rangers, police, or other law-enforcement personnel. Give them no excuse to hijack the moment,” the organization announced.

After House Democrats Arrested At Immigration Rally, White House Pressures GOP (+video)

After House Democrats were arrested Tuesday at a rally to support an immigration overhaul, the White House turned up the pressure even more on Republicans who stand in the way of reform.

The Democrats arrested were part of a march in Washington on the National Mall to urge Congress to take action on immigration.

Immigration reform has been stuck in Congress after a reform bill drafted by the bipartisan Gang of Eight passed the Senate in June. The bill would create a pathway toward citizenship for illegal immigrants while also increasing border security. It would also increase the number of visas for skilled labor.

While it has support in the Senate, the Republican-controlled House remains a more difficult landscape. Conservatives have characterized the bill as “amnesty” for illegal immigrants, and its passage seems unlikely.

By CBS News

Several members of Congress were arrested after participating in an immigration “sit-in” on Capitol Hill demanding that House Republicans act to pass immigration reform.

Reps. John Lewis, D-Ga.; Keith Ellison, D-Minn.;. Charles Rangel, D-N.Y.; Jan Schakowsky, D-Ill.; and Luis Gutierrez, D-Ill., were among the lawmakers arrested by the Capitol Police for blocking a street near the Capitol.

The representatives are calling on Congress, particularly Republicans, to push immigration legislation forward. The Senate has passed a bill that includes amped up border security. House Democrats have unveiled a plan with a path to citizenship for the estimated 11 million immigrants living in the U.S. illegally. But it’s unclear if the GOP-led House will ever pass legislation.

Jon Stewart Grills Health Secretary Kathleen Sebelius on Obamacare and Accuses her of Lying to Him (+videos)

Photo Credit: Comedy Central Jon Stewart has been attacking the Republicans all week over the government shutdown but he took aim at a member of his own party on Monday night.

Kathleen Sebelius, the Secretary of Health and Human Services, was probably expecting a soft-ball interview about the roll out of President Obama’s signature health care plan but instead she was left backpedalling to try to recover from his pointed criticisms.

The Comedy Central host started by poking fun at how long the online marketplace takes to load, saying that it was comparable to the amount of time it would take to download all of the movies ever created.

After going for the easy laugh, things turned much more serious when he brought up a ‘legitimate criticism’ that Republicans have made.

Businesses with more than 50 full time employees have been given a delay so that they don’t have to provide health insurance for their employees for another year, whereas individuals have to sign up by December 15 or face a fine.

IG That Watchdogs IRS–And Uncovered Targeting of Tea Party–‘Shut Down’ (+video)

Photo Credit: AP/Charles DharapakWhile the Treasury Department has continued its basic operations since the government “shutdown” last Tuesday–collecting tens of billions in taxes and spending even more–the Office of the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA), which conducts audits and investigations of the IRS, and which uncovered the IRS’s targeting of Tea Party groups, has been “shut down.”

“As of October 7 at 8:30 am, due to the continued lapse in appropriated federal funding, TIGTA’s normal operations are shut down,” says the recorded message at an “emergency notification” phone line that the IG’s office set up for its workers. “Employees should’ve already received instructions to not report to work, and to not incur any work related expenses.”

“We anticipate full cessation of audits, inspections and evaluations during the shutdown period,” says a TIGTA document obtained by CNSNews.com. The document is entitled “Bureau Shutdown Plans During Periods of Lapsed Appropriations, September 2013.”

According to the document, in addition to ceasing audits, investigations and evaluations, TIGTA is also furloughing 61% of its staff.

Rep. Al Green on Obamacare: ‘I Will Come Back in the Afterlife; I Will Haunt the Congress’ (+video)

Photo Credit: APSpeaking at a rally to demand Congress ends the government shutdown on Friday, Rep. Al Green (D-Texas) said he is “committed to the Affordable Care Act,” and he “will come back in the afterlife” to fight for it.

In his closing remarks he said: “My followers, listen friends. I will haunt the Congress of the United States of America.”

Prior to the government shutdown, the House passed numerous continuing resolutions that included language to defund Obamacare or delay the individual mandate.

Self-Described Ex-Racist Shirley Sherrod Sues Nicest Person in Los Angeles (+video)

Photo Credit: AP/Gregory BullShirley Sherrod, the Department of Agriculture official who lost her taxpayer-funded sinecure after Andrew Breitbart posted a video of Sherrod revealing her struggle to overcome anti-white racism, has expanded her multi-year crusade against the late media entrepreneur by suing his unoffending widow, a mother of four who is loved by all who know her.

Sherrod, then-Georgia state director of rural development for the USDA, revealed in a March 2010 speech to the NAACP that she was initially unwilling to help a white farmer who sought assistance from her, but who, according to Sherrod, tried “to show me he was superior to me.” The incident she described happened in 1986 when she worked for the Federation of Southern Cooperatives/Land Assistance Fund.

After Breitbart posted a two-minute clip of Sherrod’s 43-minute stemwinder, Sherrod resigned under immense pressure from USDA and Obama administration bigwigs.

Although the Breitbart clip did indicate that Sherrod had eventually decided to place a higher value on class warfare than racial bigotry, the full import of her long speech became more clear after the full version was made public. In the full speech Sherrod, who had been made rich by a government settlement over discrimination against her collective farm, explained that she grew to realize America is divided between ”rich and poor” rather than “black and white.”

Issa: ‘There’s a Reason to Fear’ Obama Agencies (+videos)

Photo Credit: APRepublican California Rep. Darrell Issa, the GOP’s top government watchdog, warns that we have entered a time to “love my country, fear my government.”

“Right now, there’s a reason to fear the IRS and other agencies, including the EPA, who are loaded with people who feel empowered to bend the rules against those they disagree with,” the California Republican explained.

Issa has been investigating the Internal Revenue Service since Lois Lerner’s May 2013 admission that the agency treated conservative groups differently, and his Sept. 17 committee report details the committee’s progress and findings to date.
