Plus-Size Influencer Rips Plane Seat Policies After Demanding Other Flyers Pay for Extra Seat

A plus-size travel influencer is demanding that airlines change their “discriminatory” policies that make larger flyers pay “twice for the same experience” — admitting that making such a change may make fares for everyone more expensive.

Jae-lynn Chaney, who made headlines in April after starting the Change.org petition “Demand for the FAA to Protect Plus-Sized Customers,” doubled down on being discriminated against while flying due to her size.

“People with smaller bodies get to pay one fare to get to their destination,” Chaney, who has to buy an extra seat while flying, told CNN Travel.

“We have to pay two fares, even though we’re getting the same experience. If anything, our experiences are a little bit more challenging.”

While Chaney has held firm in her demands, in April she admitted that if her petition’s demands were met, ticket prices for all customers would likely increase due to demand. (Read more from “Plus-Size Influencer Rips Plane Seat Policies After Demanding Other Flyers Pay for Extra Seat” HERE)

Yet Another Nearly Catastrophic Air Collision Narrowly Averted, According to Report

A collision was narrowly averted at a U.S. airport in California after a plane was forced to abort its landing because air traffic control cleared another plane for take-off, officials state.

Mesa Airlines Flight 5826 was preparing to land at the Hollywood Burbank Airport on the evening of Feb. 22 when an air traffic controller cleared SkyWest Airlines Embraer E175 to take off from the same runway, NBC News reported. Although the Mesa Airlines flight was only 1.3 miles away, the pilot was able to discontinue the landing procedure and climb out as the SkyWest flight took off from the runway, the outlet added.

This latest snafu is just another in a number of recent near-miss incidents that prompted the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to launch a “call to action” earlier in February. (Read more from “Yet Another Nearly Catastrophic Air Collision Narrowly Averted, According to Report” HERE)

This Airline Refuses to Hire Unvaxxed, but Hired Violent Felon to Fly Planes

Some JetBlue pilots are outraged after the airline hired a violent felon to fly planes even as it refuses to hire people who haven’t taken the COVID vaccine, citing safety.

Two pilots told The Daily Wire that JetBlue has hired John Perrys, who served nine years in prison for breaking into the home of a judge and attacking his daughter as she left the shower. Perrys was released from prison in 2014 and is on felony probation until 2044, according to the Florida Department of Corrections. . .

In 2005, The Associated Press reported that Perrys, then an Air Force captain, was charged in Louisiana with burglary and assault with a deadly weapon while wearing a mask, and that he faced up to life in prison. Perrys allegedly entered the home of a judge and beat the judge’s daughter, who was his former fiancée, with a metal baton as she left the shower. Police said that when he was arrested, he was wearing a bulletproof vest and his vehicle contained knives, handcuffs, parachute cord, a shovel, and a mask, according to the AP.

JetBlue’s job applications say, “Every decision JetBlue has made throughout the pandemic has been with our safety value front and center. Whether it’s requiring masks, or many of the other health and safety protocols we’ve had to navigate during the pandemic, all of these efforts have been focused on making the workplace and air travel safer for you and our Customers. As part of our commitment to health and safety, COVID-19 vaccines are required for all JetBlue employees. New hire employees must be fully vaccinated prior to the start of training.” . . .

A screenshot of an internal JetBlue web page reviewed by The Daily Wire listed Perrys as a “Pilot Trainee” and a “Crewmember since July 20, 2022.” Another picture showed him beneath a banner that said “Congratulations Class 34-22,” referring to his training. Perrys did not return a request for comment. (Read more from “This Airline Refuses to Hire Unvaxxed, but Hired Violent Felon to Fly Planes” HERE)

Too Fat to Fly: FAA Updates Guidelines as American Obesity Crisis Grows

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is demanding U.S. airlines submit plans with updated weight averages they will use for passengers and baggage moving forward by Saturday.

According to the Wall Street Journal, “Airlines officials say the weight estimates used for passengers and baggage are going up between 5 percent and 10 percent.” . . .

The new guidelines, and likely travel disruptions to come with them, are yet another symptom of American weight gain with no signs of abatement. And it’s Krispy Kreme’s fault.

WATCH: Airline Reportedly Kicks Family off Flight Over Maskless Two-Year-Old

A video gaining steam on social media shows a woman in the middle of a heated confrontation with a JetBlue flight attendant who told the woman, who has six children, to deplane due to her maskless two-year-old, who can be heard crying in the background.

The video provides a glimpse of the chaotic scene around the tense conversation between a flight attendant and the family.

“You realize she’s two,” a woman told the stewardess.

“I do. And also, it’s not something that we can excuse,” she responded. . .

At one point, the woman said that she would put a mask on the child, but the flight attendant said it was “already too late,” prompting even more chaos as the child could be heard crying in the background:

Airline Drops Chocolate Supplier Over Owner’s Affiliation With Pro-Life Christian Group

Swiss Air Lines has dropped chocolate manufacturer Läderach over its owner’s affiliation with a pro-life, pro-family Christian organization.

For more than 10 years, Läderach had supplied the airline with small boxes of chocolates that were given to some passengers as a token of appreciation.

Following months of negative headlines, Swiss Air Lines decided to cut ties with the chocolatier that recently has expanded into North America, running stores in both New York City and Toronto. Sweets made by Läderach will be phased out by April 2020, the airline announced. . .

Jürg Läderach, owner of the chocolate manufacturer, is the president of “christianity for today” (cft), an evangelical organization based in Switzerland. CEO Johannes Läderach also serves on the board of cft.

Among other things, cft is one of the sponsors of the March for Life taking place in different locations in Switzerland every year. Last year, more than 1,200 pro-lifers marched in Zurich, the largest Swiss city. (Read more from “Airline Drops Chocolate Supplier Over Owner’s Affiliation With Pro-Life Christian Group” HERE)

Passengers Spend 11 Hours in the Air Going Nowhere Due to This

Passengers spent 11 hours in the air only to end up right where they started.

A flight from Amsterdam to Mexico was forced to turn around about five-and-a-half hours into the flight due to a volcanic eruption. The plane was reportedly unable to land at another airport because it was also carrying a cargo of horses.

KLM flight KL685 from Amsterdam’s Schiphol airport to Mexico City was over Canada when the decision was made to turn around, The Independent reports. The plane returned to the airport it originated from, making this a very long flight that ultimately went nowhere.

The plane was unable to land at its original destination because of volcanic activity from Popocatepetl, an active volcano near Mexico City. The eruption had created “unfavorable flying conditions.”

Normally, the airline would look to land the plane at an alternate airport but was unable to do so with flight KL685 because it was also carrying a cargo of horses. (Read more from “Passengers Spend 11 Hours in the Air Going Nowhere Due to This” HERE)

Spirit Airlines Wouldn’t Let This Woman Bring Her ‘Emotional Support’ Hamster on the Flight. So She Flushed It down an Airport Toilet.

For anyone familiar with Spirit Airlines, its $65 carry-on baggage fees, its $3 for water, and its $10 boarding passes, is it any wonder that the Greyhound Of The Skies may object to a passenger’s “emotional support” hamster?

It was to 21-year-old Belen Aldecosea, who flushed her pet Pebbles down a toilet at Baltimore-Washington International Airport when the airline refused to let her board the plane with her Fort Lauderdale-bound animal guest . . .

Spirit Airlines spokesman Derek Dombrowski confirmed that “our reservation representative, unfortunately, did misinform the guest that a hamster was permitted to fly as an emotional support animal (ESA) on Spirit Airlines.”

When Aldecosea arrived at BWI, she said the first Spirit agent she encountered checked in Pebbles and his small cage without a hitch. But on her way to the TSA security checkpoint, she said, a second Spirit employee ran after her and said she could not bring the rodent aboard the plane — neither in the cabin nor the cargo.

She alleges that a Spirit worker said she could flush Pebbles down a toilet, an allegation Spirit denies. (Read more from “Spirit Airlines Wouldn’t Let This Woman Bring Her ‘Emotional Support’ Hamster on the Flight. So She Flushed It down an Airport Toilet.” HERE)

Airline to Board Passengers Based on Price of Ticket

Passengers will soon be boarding British Airways planes according to how much they paid for their flights.

From next month, those who pay the lowest fares will have to wait at the departure gate and board after everyone else.

The carrier will introduce a ‘group boarding’ system on all its flights from December 12.

When passengers check in they will be assigned a group number between one and five which will be printed on their boarding pass.

The lower the number, the earlier the passenger will be allowed to board. (Read more from “Airline to Board Passengers Based on Price of Ticket” HERE)

Something GOOD Happened on an Airline. For a Change.

Here’s a story that breaks the recent trend of awful airline public-relations nightmares.

A Phoenix, Ariz., woman and her family were given 21 years of free flights on Spirit Airlines after she gave birth, mid-flight, to a healthy baby boy.

Cristina Penton was 36 weeks pregnant when she boarded Spirit flight 971 from Fort Lauderdale to Dallas with her other children. During the flight, she unexpectedly went into labor.

“Everything started happening very quickly,” Penton told WGNO. “I didn’t think I was having the baby because it was too soon, but after a few minutes I knew I needed medical attention. The flight attendants contacted doctors on the ground and they advised the flight attendants to see if there were any medical personnel on board. As it turned out, there was a pediatrician and a nurse. Soon after that, it was clear I was having my baby, and I was in pure panic.”

A spokesman for Spirit said that while a baby being born during a flight is “very rare,” flight attendants are trained to handle medical emergencies and can communicate with doctors on the ground with the plane’s in-flight communication system. When it was clear that Penton needed help, these flight attendants leaped into action.

Fortunately, there were some medical professionals on board to help – a pediatrician and a nurse. A fellow passenger on the plane, Shelley Hedgecock Starks of Fort Worth, captured the whole thing on video. She was sitting behind Penton when she went into labor, Fox5 News reports.

“I just asked her, ‘Do you want me to video this so you have a memory of what’s going on here?’” she asked Penton. “She’s married, apparently. But her husband wasn’t there. Her children were in shock so they weren’t in any situation or wanted to video that.”

Nurse Rhondula Green helped deliver the baby.

“I was asking for gloves, and the pediatrician was like, ‘They don’t have any gloves,’” Green said in an interview with Fox5. “And I was like, ‘They have to find some gloves.’ And then by the time I was getting my gloves on, the head was starting to crown.”

“A few seconds late[r], the head comes out. And the mom is like, ‘Take it! Take it!’” Green recalled. “He popped out, literally. Like, we barely caught him and then we just gave him to her.”

Penton’s baby, Christoph Lezcano, was born weighing seven pounds and measuring 19.5 inches long.
As Green went back to find her seat, the passengers on the plane clapped and cheered. “It was an awesome moment,” she said.

“The Spirit crew was very attentive and took care of me throughout the flight,” Penton said. “They helped make what could have been a terrible situation as good as it could possibly be.”

In addition to the free airfare, Spirit paid for a rental car to drive Penton and her family back home and presented baby Christoph with several gifts, including a onesie that says “Born to fly.”
