Arkansas State Senate Passes Bill Banning Enforcement of Federal Gun Control Laws

The Arkansas state Senate voted this week to block federal law enforcement officials enforcing certain gun laws and regulations, sending a bill to the state House in the midst of congressional gun-control proposals.

The Senate voted 28-7 to approve the measure, which will then be sent to the House. Arkansas’ Legislature is overwhelmingly Republican.

“All acts, law, orders, rules, and regulations of the United States Government, whether past, present, or future, that infringe on the people’s right to keep and bear arms as guaranteed by the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution and Arkansas Constitution, Article 2, [Section] 5, are invalid in this state, shall not be recognized by this state, are specifically rejected by this state, and shall be considered null and void and of no effect in this state,” according to the text of the bill.

The measure will prohibit any law enforcement agencies in Arkansas from cooperating with federal officials to enforce federal gun laws that go in conflict with the rights provided in the Arkansas Constitution, according to Arkansas Online. Some state lawmakers expressed a worry that President Joe Biden would ramp up gun-control measures. A student was shot at an Arkansas middle school early Monday on the first day that full-time classes resumed after months of coronavirus lockdown restrictions.

The incident at the Watson Chapel Junior High School in Pine Bluff forced the district into a new emergency lockdown, with one student seriously injured and a second youngster in police custody, KARK-TV reported. . .

The boy, 15, is in “very serious condition,” Pine Bluff Police Chief Kelvin Sergeant said at an afternoon briefing. . .

The alleged shooter, also 15, was found by police K-9 officers hiding behind a house nearby, the chief said.

“We don’t have a definite motive right now as to why the incident occurred,” Sergeant said. “However, we do believe this was a targeted incident as opposed to a random incident.” (Read more from “Student Reportedly Shot on First Day of in-Person Learning in Arkansas” HERE)

Arkansas Wants to Protect Women’s Sports From Biological Males

Arkansas is the latest state to craft legislation to protect female athletes in high school and college from competing against biological men who describe themselves as transgender women.

The announcement follows President Joe Biden’s executive order on Jan. 20 that expanding protections for women under the federal statute Title IX prohibiting discrimination against women because of their biological sex at all schools that receive federal funding would now include men who want to live as women. . .

Local television station KATV reported on the development:

Rutledge said at a news conference Monday that the order hurts female athletes. The drafted legislation, known as the Gender Integrity Reinforcement Legislation For Sports Act, or GIRLS Act, would make it illegal for student-athletes who are identified as male on their birth certificate to play on women’s teams.

A draft of the proposed bill cites chromosomal, hormonal and physiological differences between male and female sexes. If passed, the bill would apply to K-12 schools in Arkansas. It would allow the attorney general to sue any school that violates the bill and ban them from receiving funds from a public source for one year.

WATCH: Arkansas Man Plants Mysterious Seeds From China

An Arkansas man who says he received a packet of unknown seeds from China has planted them — and KSFM-TV calls the burgeoning plant “wild.” . . .

Booneville, Arkansas, resident Doyle Crenshaw said he planted a nondescript — and unsolicited — package of seeds from China.

“We … planted the seeds just to see what would happen,” he told the station, revealing that the large plant — which initially grew from orange-colored flowers — is producing large, white fruits.

“Every two weeks I’d come by and put Miracle-Gro on it, and they just started growing like crazy,” he admitted.

The Booneville resident said that he only opted to plant the seeds before the USDA issued a warning against doing so to U.S. residents. (Read more from “WATCH: Arkansas Man Plants Mysterious Seeds From China” HERE)

A Hole Opened up in Arkansas and Shot Flames Into the Sky, and No One Knows Why

Officials in Arkansas have taken the unusual step of ruling out Satan as the cause of a hole that suddenly burst into flames last month.

Locals in Midway, Baxter Country were shocked when a flame erupted 3.7 meters (12 feet) out of the ground on September 17, settling at 2 meters (8 feet) high and burning for 40 minutes

“I’ve never seen it before. I hope I never see it again,” Donald Tucker, chief of the Midway Fire Protection District, told the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette. “What it was, I have no idea.”

Sadly, no photos or video of the event were taken. Reports suggested it burned orange-red, spanning about 0.6 meters (2 feet) wide.

The appearance of the flaming hole obviously had people a little spooked, and a number of theories sprung up about its origin. One was that a meteorite has struck the ground and caused the flame, although that’s pretty much impossible because science. Elderly Woman Shoots, Kills Intruder

An elderly Arkansas woman shot a home intruder Sunday morning, killing the 19-year-old man, authorities said.

The ADT alarm company received a burglar alarm call at the woman’s house at 3:31 a.m. Sunday, according to the Crittenden County Sheriff’s Department.

The alarm company made contact with the homeowner, who is in her late 80s and lives by herself. They then called officers in Marion and Crittenden County, who responded, according to WREG.

The woman told authorities she called out to the intruder who forcefully entered the home and ordered him to leave her home. She said he advanced toward her and that’s when she shot him in self-defense.

“Of course it makes you be a little more concerned about your neighborhood if have people that are breaking into homes,” said John Rimmer, neighbor. (Read more from “Elderly Woman Shoots, Kills Intruder” HERE)

Arkansas Judge Joined Death-Penalty Protests on Same Day He Blocked Executions

An Arkansas judge attended two death-penalty protests on the same day that he issued an order blocking the state’s multiple executions, at one point allowing himself to be strapped to a cot in a simulation of an inmate slated to die by lethal injection.

Pulaski County Circuit Court Judge Wendell Griffen “cannot be considered remotely impartial on issues related to the death penalty,” said Arkansas Attorney General Leslie Rutledge in an emergency petition filed Saturday challenging his order.

She said Mr. Griffen attended a 2 p.m. Friday rally at the state capitol in Little Rock before issuing the temporary restraining order at about 4:25 p.m., then resurfaced at an evening protest outside the governor’s mansion.

“Within an hour of granting the TRO [temporary restraining order], Judge Griffen was photographed at a second anti-death penalty rally — this one at the Governor’s Mansion, where Judge Griffen lay strapped down to a cot to simulate the experience of a condemned prisoner on a gurney,” said the petition. “Judge Griffen was protesting the very executions he had just enjoined.”

The judge also spoke out against the executions in a blog post earlier this month, saying that “Arkansas officials plan to commit a series of homicides,”according to the petition. (Read more from “Arkansas Judge Joined Death-Penalty Protests on Same Day He Blocked Executions” HERE)

‘They Can Rot in Hell’: Arkansas Senator Says Send More Terrorists to Guantanamo Bay [+videos]

By Fox News Insider. Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) made some impassioned remarks about Guantanamo Bay at today’s Senate Armed Services Committee hearing.

Cotton, an Iraq War veteran, pushed back against the idea that leaving the prison open is a recruitment tool for terrorists around the world.

He argued that the prison did not exist when terrorists attacked the USS Cole in 2000 and then struck on 9/11.

“In my opinion, the only problem with Guantanamo Bay is that there are too many empty beds and cells there right now. We should be sending more terrorists there for further interrogation to keep this country safe. As far as I’m concerned, every last one of them can rot in hell. But as long as they don’t do that, they can rot in Guantanamo Bay,” said Cotton, during an exchange with Brian P. McKeon, Principal Deputy Under Secretary of Defense for Policy. Governor Bobby Jindal: Muslim Leaders Have Responsibility to Say Terrorists are ‘Going Straight to Hell’

By Lauretta Brown. Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal (R) told a gathering in Washington on Thursday that Muslim leaders have a responsibility to say that terrorists are “going straight to hell.”

“Individual Muslim leaders have a responsibility,” said Jindal, “to denounce not just the acts of violence but these individuals, to say they are not going to enjoy a reward in the afterlife, but rather they’re going straight to Hell for these awful, barbaric acts they continue to commit–killing school children, killing teenagers who are watching soccer, burning a man alive, killing cartoonists because they don’t like their products.”

Speaking at the American Principles Project (APP) State Lunch, Jindal also said the leaders of the Western world “have a responsibility to insist on assimilation and integration for those that want to come and live in our societies. (Read more from this story HERE)

Arkansas, Mississippi Gay Marriage Bans Overturned

gay_marriageArkansas and Mississippi became the latest two states Tuesday to have their gay marriage bans overturned by federal judges, but there are no rushes to the altar as both orders are on hold so the states can consider appeals.

Like several states, Arkansas and Mississippi had voter-approved constitutional amendments pass in 2004 that defined marriage between one man and one woman.

In Arkansas, U.S. District Judge Kristine Baker ruled in favor of two same-sex couples who had challenged the amendment. They argued the ban violated the U.S. Constitution and discriminated based on sexual orientation.

“The fact that Amendment 83 was adopted by referendum does not immunize it from federal constitutional scrutiny,” Baker wrote in her ruling.

Besides the amendment, Mississippi has a 1997 law that bans same-sex marriage.
