Grandma With Dementia Allegedly Raped During Vacation in Bahamas

A disturbing incident unfolded at the Warwick Hotel in the Bahamas, where an 80-year-old Canadian woman, reportedly suffering from Alzheimer’s, was allegedly raped in January. The accused, a 61-year-old man from Nova Scotia, now faces charges and is held without bail in the Bahamas, according to a report by CTV News.

The son of the elderly victim, David Ahrens, revealed that the horrifying incident occurred during a family vacation. As the trip neared its end, an uninvited guest joined Ahrens’ sister, mother, and their friends for dinner. Tragically, the elderly woman became separated from the group on an elevator, finding herself alone with the accused.

Ahrens recounted the ordeal, stating, “My younger sister stepped out of the elevator, and as she turned around to sort of hand out to get my mom, the doors closed, and effectively my mother disappeared.” Despite a frantic 30-minute search and assistance from hotel staff in reviewing security footage, the mother and the man were found getting off an elevator, with Ahrens claiming she was holding her underwear in her hand.

Law enforcement arrived at the scene, and the elderly woman was taken to a hospital, where a rape kit reportedly confirmed the assault. The accused, Gordon Wilkie, now faces legal consequences in the Bahamas.

This distressing incident follows recent reports of two mothers from Kentucky claiming they were drugged and raped during a vacation in the Bahamas with Carnival Cruises. Allegedly, Carnival failed to inform them about official warnings when traveling to the area, and a travel advisory had been issued by the U.S. Department of State on January 26.

Moms Say They Were Drugged, Raped by Bahamas Resort Staffers; Cruise LineNever Told Them About Travel Warning Until After Assault

Two moms from Kentucky are speaking out after they were allegedly drugged and raped in the Bahamas Sunday after the US issued a travel warning for the vacation hotspot.

Longtime friends Amber Shearer and Dongayla Dobson said their first kid-free vacation ended with a traumatic, broad-daylight assault when they decided to go to the beach after the Carnival cruise ship they were on docked at the island country. . .

The moms were relaxing on a Grand Bahama beach when a resort staffer offered them a two-for-one drink deal, they told NewsNation’s “Cuomo.” . . .

“Less than a few [sips] into the second drink, we knew something was wrong. Something was terribly wrong,” Shearer said.

The mothers are also angry with Carnival — which they say failed to tell them about the US State Department travel advisory for the Bahamas until after their horrific assault. Haunting Image Surfaces After Teen Jumped off Ship Into ‘Shark-Infested’ Water

The Louisiana high school graduate who disappeared after leaping off a cruise ship into dark waters off the Bahamas last week may have met a grisly fate in the “shark-infested” area, a local official said.

The waters off Athol Island, where 18-year-old Cameron Robbins was last seen swimming after jumping off the Blackbeard’s Revenge sunset cruise on May 24, are “really shark-infested,” Royal Bahamas Defense Force (RBDF) Commodore Raymond King told the Daily Mail on Tuesday.

A chaotic video taken moments after the jump also shows the Baton Rouge native ignoring onlookers’ pleas for him to grab a buoy and swimming in the opposite direction –prompting social media sleuths to suggest that a silvery reflection near the boat’s hull may have actually been a shark that scared him off.

Hurricane Dorian Death Toll Rises to 20 in Bahamas

Bahamas Health Minister Duane Sands said Wednesday that the death toll for Hurricane Dorian had risen from seven to 20 and more deaths were expected as the storm clears the island archipelago and threatens to make landfall in the U.S. later this week.

Sands confirmed that 17 victims were from the Abaco islands and three were from Grand Bahama, adding that three of the victims died after being transported to a hospital in nearby New Providence. . .

Dorian, which had been downgraded to a Category 2 storm, regained Category 3 strength late Wednesday and was making its way toward the U.S. mainland, traveling close to the east coast of Florida. It was expected to make landfall in the Carolinas on Wednesday night or Thursday, according to the National Hurricane Center.

Previously, as a Category 5 hurricane, Dorian slammed the Bahamas this past Sunday, first hitting the Abaco islands and then ravaging Grand Bahama as a Category 4 storm. The hurricane, which is the most powerful to ever hit the island, lingered for nearly two days leaving wreckage and disaster in its wake. . .

The Bahamian government sent hundreds of police officers and marines as well as doctors, nurses and other health care workers to the islands, where the land remained muddy, houses flattened or soddened and debris-strewn across the landscape, to aid the nearly 70,000 residents in the Abaco Islands and Grand Bahama who were severely affected by the storm.
