With most Democrats keeping an eye on former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton for hints about her 2016 plans, Vice President Joe Biden’s appearance at Iowa’s 36th annual “Tom Harkin Steak Fry,” may one day be viewed as a telling sign of his presidential intentions.

The Democratic fund-raiser named for the veteran senator from Iowa is closely watched in this Midwestern state, which helps winnow out the crop of presidential contenders every four years leading up to the Iowa caucuses, the first voting event of each presidential cycle.

Addressing the crowd at the Warren County Fairgrounds, Biden mentioned 2016 in a sideways fashion, making light of the national media presence that showed up for the event.

“It’s amazing when you come to speak at the Steak Fry a whole bunch of people seem to take notice. I don’t know why the hell that is,” Biden said.

The 70-year-old Biden has left open the possibility of a run for the 2016 Democratic presidential nomination in order to get a chance to succeed President Barack Obama.

Biden Calls Republicans ‘Neanderthals’

Vice President Joe Biden said Repulican opposition to the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) in the House of Representatives came from the “Neanderthal crowd.” And he gave himself credit for coming up with the law almost 20 years ago.

“Packed into the front room of the Vice President’s residence just before 7pm, Biden spoke for about half an hour to the crowd of several dozen people, most of whom played a role in making VAWA a reality. The room was full of chatter as Biden was standing at the mic waiting to talk, so he turned around and let out a piercingly loud whistle, and the room went quiet. He talked about when he first came up with the idea for VAWA legislation in the early 1990s,” according to the pool report from an event last night.

“I caused a lot of trouble because I just started writing,” Biden said to laughs. “I’m serious. This isn’t one of these cases, I didn’t ask for staff help, I didn’t ask for any help, I was so God darn– gosh darn mad.”

Biden: Brain Surgeon Told Him He Had Less Than 50% Chance of ‘Being Completely Normal’

Speaking at the White House National Conference on Mental Health on Monday, Vice President Joe Biden told a sometimes serious and sometimes jocular story about the two brain surgeries he needed in 1988 to deal with cranial aneurysms.

Biden told the White House audience “they take a saw and they cut your head off” and “they literally had to take the top of my head off.” He also recounted that as he was being wheeled into surgery he asked the neurosurgeon, “What are my chances of getting off this table completely normal?” The surgeon told Biden he had a better chance of living—and that that chance was in the 35 to 50 percent range.

“The only totally un-chartered portion of the universe is the brain,” Biden said in his White House speech. “You know, as we used to say in the Senate, excuse the point of personal privilege here: I had two cranial aneurysms, and they literally had to take the top of my head off. I mean, they take a saw and they cut your head off, and go in to find the artery that is–one was leaking, the other that hadn’t, before it burst.

Teamsters Pension Crisis Sapping Hoffa’s Support, Power

International Brotherhood of Teamsters general president Jimmy Hoffa Jr.’s response to his union’s pension crisis is sapping Hoffa’s support among Teamsters members, according to insiders.

The International Brotherhood of Teamsters is one of the forces lobbying Congress for legislation based on the National Coordinating Committee for Multiemployer Plans’ report “Solutions, Not Bailouts.” The report urges new congressional legislation to allow “deeply troubled” funds to cut employees’ pensions.

The Central States Pension Fund, which serves Teamsters members across the country and which also happens to be “deeply troubled,” has joined the Teamsters in lobbying for the new legislation. Insiders believe that the Fund plans to make across-the-board pension cuts.

The Teamsters’ unwillingness to allow companies to move Teamsters members out of the fund and into more secure retirement plans has enraged Teamsters members and sparked backlash against Hoffa.

“In that they’re calling for pension cuts, they’re on the wrong track,” Ken Paff, national organizer of the reform group Teamsters for a Democratic Union, told The Daily Caller. Approximately 3,000 active and retired Teamsters converged on their Kansas City union hall Tuesday to voice their displeasure with Hoffa and the Central States Pension Fund.

This Week’s Biden Gaffe: VP Says Gabby Giffords Was ‘Mortally Wounded’ (+video)

According to the Vice President, former Arizona Congresswoman Gabby Giffords was “mortally wounded.”

“Think about what happened out in — when Gabby Giffords, my good friend, was shot and mortally wounded,” Biden said during a gun control press conference on Thursday morning.

Biden held the press conference with New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, as well as family members of shooting victims. The group was pushing for what they call “common sense” gun control legislation.

Must Watch Video: Following Biden’s Advice, Women Fire 12 Gauge Shotguns, Discover VP Really is a Moron

Last month you might remember that Vice President Biden was asked by a reader of Parents Magazine whether citizens would be able to defend themselves if the President’s assault weapons ban were passed.

Know-it-all Biden quickly responded that, “If you want to protect yourself, get a double-barrel shotgun, have the shells, a 12-gauge shotgun.”

He then goes on to explain that he’s given this exact same advice to his wife, Jill, since they live in a fairly secluded wooded area. If anyone or anything threatens them, all Jill has to do is, “walk out on the balcony here, walk out, put that double-barrel shotgun and fire two blasts outside the house. I promise you, whoever’s coming in is not going to.”

Biden then characterizes assault weapons as basically useless, stating that, “You don’t need an AR-15. It’s harder to aim, it’s harder to use. And in fact, you don’t need 30 rounds.” While speaking, the Vice President holds up his hands as if he’s aiming, suggesting that he really knows what he’s talking about.

Biden was roundly criticized for his ignorant comments. On Twitter, Ben Shapiro wryly noted to the VP that, once the double-barreled shotgun was fired, “your gun is [now] empty, moron.”

And then, the following video was produced, demonstrating exactly how ignorant Biden really is:

Biden: ‘No Law-Abiding Citizen Has Any Fear That Their Constitutional Rights Will be Infringed’

If you don’t have time to listen to Biden’s whole speech(and who does?), skip ahead to about the 10 minute mark. The statement in question is just past the 11 minute mark.

Video: Joe Biden Caught on Camera Admitting Gun Control Will Not Stop Mass Shootings

After pontificating about the government’s ‘moral obligation’ to push for more gun control, the Vice President has now been caught on camera saying that the new measures being pushed by the White House won’t diminish the possibility of more mass shootings.

Wow – a stunning reversal. It makes one wonder whether this was even a good faith effort on the part of the Administration in the first place.

Never mind the fact that the Democrats rolled out their pre-packaged bills as soon as they had a pretext. This latest gaffe by Joe Biden is rather morally problematic, if I may follow the Vice President’s lead in the invocation of categorical imperatives.

Biden Does Damage Control With European Leaders After Hagel’s Policy Flub

Photo Credit: marcnVice President Joseph R. Biden assured European leaders Saturday that the U.S. is not pursuing a policy of “containment” toward Iran, two days after U.S. Defense secretary-nominee Chuck Hagel mistakenly characterized the Obama administration’s policy.

“As President Obama has made clear to Iranian leaders, our policy is not containment — it is not containment,” Mr. Biden said at the annual Munich Security Conference in Germany. “It is to prevent Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon.”

During his confirmation hearing Thursday, Mr. Hagel told the Senate Armed Services committee that the administration had a policy of “containment” toward the Iranian regime. After an aide slipped him a note minutes later, Mr. Hagel corrected himself and said, “We don’t have a position on containment.

That comment prompted Chairman Carl Levin, Michigan Democrat, to remind Mr. Hagel that the U.S. does indeed have a position on containment — “we do not favor containment.”

Mr. Biden didn’t mention Mr. Hagel’s stumble to the Europeans, but he did try to set the record straight. Addressing international sanctions against Iran for its nuclear ambitions, Mr. Biden said the Obama administration has “also made clear that Iran’s leaders need not sentence their people to economic deprivation and international isolation.”

NRA Says Meeting with Biden Disappointing; Accuses White House of Attack on Second Amendment

NRA Says Meeting with Biden Disappointing

by Alexis Levinson

The National Rifle Association said it emerged “disappointed” from a Thursday meeting with Vice President Joe Biden and other gun owners’ groups.

The meeting was a part of Biden’s work on a task force on gun policy, established in the wake of the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn. that left 20 children dead.

The NRA statement on the meeting said that the group was “prepared to have a meaningful conversation about school safety, mental health issues, the marketing of violence to our kids and the collapse of federal prosecutions of violent criminals.”

“We were disappointed with how little this meeting had to do with keeping our children safe and how much it had to do with an agenda to attack the Second Amendment,” the statement said.

NRA Accuses White House of ‘Attack’ on 2nd Amendment Rights

by Justin Sink

The National Rifle Association said Thursday it was “disappointed” by its meeting Thursday with Vice President Biden, accusing the Obama administration of using the time to “attack the Second Amendment.”

The statement, issued shortly after the conclusion of the conference, deflated any prospect of an unlikely alliance between the White House and the gun lobby group as President Obama looks to push a set of new gun regulations in the coming month.

It also likely signals that the NRA will oppose any legislative attempt to change federal gun laws in the coming Congress.

“We were disappointed with how little this meeting had to do with keeping our children safe and how much it had to do with an agenda to attack the Second Amendment,” the group said in its statement.

“While claiming that no policy proposals would be ‘prejudged,’ this Task Force spent most of its time on proposed restrictions on lawful firearms owners — honest, taxpaying, hardworking Americans.”
