Christians, Aid Worker Brutally Murdered by Radical Islamic Terrorists in Kenya

Christians, citizens and at least one aid worker were brutally murdered by radical Islamic terrorists with ties to Al-Shabaab and Boko Haram in Kenya earlier this month. International Christian Concern (ICC), a group that tracks attacks on Christians around the world, first brought attention to the murders.

According to ICC, the terrorist group Boko Haram kidnapped several women in Kenya, including International Committee of Red Cross aid worker Saifura Khorsa, a Muslim, back in March. This alarming incident turned tragic when Khorsa was executed this week. ICC reports:

Saifura was executed early this week by the terrorists. This comes less than a month after Saifura and her fellow ICRC captives begged President Buhari to help rescue them, and that they were on the final warning from the group. Now in a video released by the group, Boko Haram has claimed that if they are not given ransoms within the next month, they will not only execute the other two aid workers, but will also murder Leah Sharibu. Leah, a 16 year old schoolgirl, is the lone captive from the Dapchi incident earlier this year.

. . .

“Amnesty International strongly condemns the recent killing of Saifura Hussaini Ahmed Khorsa, a midwife and aid worker, by Boko Haram,” the statement reads. “By this horrific act, Boko Haram has once again proven its brazen disregard for the sanctity of life which must not go unpunished.” . . .

According to ICC, seven radical Islamic terrorists stopped a bus on its way to Garissa in Northeast Kenya. They forced the passengers to disembark and separated three individuals who did not have “Muslim-sounding” names. When two of them refused to say the Islamic Shahada because of their Christian faith, they were tied up and murdered. Boko Haram Won’t Stop Killing Christians. It’s a Demonic Assault.

On Friday, Boko Haram Islamists kidnapped 22 more young girls. They will be held as sex slaves or sold to the highest bidder.

“Boko Haram” means “Western education is forbidden” in the Hausa language. These Islamists terrorists hate all things western and Christian. They want to forcibly establish an Islamic Caliphate and impose Shariah Law on everyone.

They call themselves al-Sunnah wal Jamma: “Followers of the Prophet’s Teachings.” Their official name is Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati wal-Jihad, which means “People committed to the propagation of the prophet’s teachings and Jihad.”

This definition defines them. They are proud of it. They boast of their evil acts and have no conscience. Who is the main target of their jihad? Christians.

The Christian Targets

Remember three years ago, when Boko Haram kidnapped over 200 girls from a school in Chibok, northern Nigeria? Most of the girls are Christians. These girls can be sold as brides to the Islamist terrorists for $12.00.

With a smile on his face, Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau admitted to reporters, “I abducted your girls. I will sell them in the market, by Allah. … There is a market for selling humans. Allah says I should sell. He commands me to sell. I will sell women. I sell women.”

They haven’t stopped. Here’s a story from last September, just one of dozens of stories about their atrocities. Boko Haram members on motorcycles shot down Christians walking home from church. They killed eight and wounded others. This was part of a week in which they killed six civilians and three soldiers traveling in a convoy, and then beheaded a village chief and his son before setting fire to many homes in their village. They shot the villagers as they fled, killing two.

And just a few days ago, they kidnapped the 22 girls.

The terrorists of Boko Haram haven’t stopped and they won’t stop. After one church bombing in 2011, a spokesman boasted, “There will never be peace, until our demands are met. We want all our brothers who have been incarcerated to be released; we want full implementation of the Sharia system and we want democracy and the constitution to be suspended.”

A Demonic Assault

This attack on Christians is a demonic assault. A spokesman for Boko Haram announced in 2012 they were planning a “war on Christians.” They told a local reporter, “We will create so much effort to end the Christian presence in our push to have a proper Islamic state that the Christians won’t be able to stay.”

We need to remember that the attack on all of the others is also demonic. The devil hates mankind. He hates Christians in particular, because we bear the name of Jesus Christ. But he wants all people to suffer, because we’re all made in the image of God.

Look at the misery Boko Haram has created. Crux reported last year: “The seven-year Islamic uprising has killed more than 20,000 people, driven some 2.6 million from their homes and spread to neighboring countries.” The famine-like conditions these terrorist have created “are killing children and starving some 2 million Nigerians still trapped in northeast areas by Boko Haram. Most of the refugees are subsistence farmers who have been unable to farm for years now.”

Americans don’t like to think about the demonic. We don’t want to believe anyone else is really serving evil. Our scholars and pundits try to explain such evil in economic and political terms. That can be partially true, of course, but it doesn’t change the reality of evil or the fact that it is at work in all of this horror. As the Apostle Paul reminded the Christians in Ephesus, we need to be reminded, “we are not contending against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world rulers of this present darkness, against the spiritual hosts of wickedness” (Eph. 6:12, 13).

We need to listen to our brothers and sisters in Jesus Christ who live in the midst of the Islamist terror. They can tell us about responding to the kind of demonic evil Boko Haram has unleashed on the Christians of northern Nigeria.

Only God Can Save Us

The Catholic Bishop of Kafanchan Diocese called Christians throughout Nigeria to join in focused prayer and take concerted action. Joseph Bagobiri told Vatican Radio, “Since we have no government that would listen to our plight, we have carried our case directly to God. It is only God that can save us from our present situation. Our hope in Him is never in vain since he knows our problem and He will deliver us one day just as he delivered the people of Israel from the hands of the Egyptians.”

These Christians don’t suffer only from Boko Haram. They suffer from the Muslim-dominated governments and society of northern Nigeria. They suffer from what the bishop called “structural injustices.” These include the unfair distribution of goods and infrastructure, with Muslims getting more than Christians. It also includes discrimination in holding political and public offices, so Christians have few people in power to defend them. Their lives are hard even without Boko Haram.

The courageous Christians of Nigeria are staying, and praying. They are losing their freedom, and shedding their blood. Bishop Bagobiri says: “We as a Church must evolve new ways on how we can face violence without losing faith. It is our prayer that God will give us strength and the needed direction on how to make Christianity survive despite the constant attacks and persecution.” (For more from the author of “Boko Haram Won’t Stop Killing Christians. Boko Haram Remains a Threat to Christians in Nigeria and Cameroon

Showing that the Islamic extremist group Boko Haram remains a threat, a local self-defense group saved Christians gathering to celebrate Christmas in a town in northern Cameroon.

According to AllAfrica.com reports, the self-defense group saw a suspected member of Boko Haram riding a bike toward the Christians. When they tried to search him, he detonated his bomb, said the state’s governor. He killed himself, two members of self-defense group and a nearby civilian. Christmas day attacks on three other towns were also reported.

The Nigerian government claims to have driven the Islamic terrorist group out of their home in the Nigerian part of the large Sambisa forest. It seems to have survived across the border in Cameroon.

Not Yet Safe

However, Nigeria is not yet safe. On the same day as the attacks in Cameroon, two young female suicide bombers tried to attack a market in Maiduguri. Maiduguri is the largest town in the northeastern Nigerian state of Borno.

“One of the bombers was instantly killed in the explosion, while the second was lynched by irate mob in the vicinity,” said a spokesman for the Borno state police. Security forces detonated the other bomb.

Congratulating Nigerian president Mohammadu Buhari for his success against Boko Haram, a leading opposition party warned that other forests where terrorists and criminals hide out needed to be cleared. They “have become killing fields,” said the spokesman for the Peoples Democratic Party.

The previous president, Goodluck Jonathan, a Christian, was a member of the party. Buhari, a retired general, is Muslim.

As reported on Monday, Boko Haram has killed at least 20,000 people and displaced at least 2.6 million since 2009. By keeping farmers from farming, the group has put 14 million people in need outside help.

In October, 21 of the schoolgirls kidnapped by Boko Haram were released and returned to their homes for Christmas. About 250 more remain missing. Many are thought to be have been forced to marry Boko Haram soldiers and convert to Islam. Watch: Boko Haram Survivor Tells the Story of Her Escape

Just over two years after narrowly escaping off the back of a truck to freedom in the middle of the night, a Nigerian schoolgirl who was kidnapped by Boko Haram in 2014 says that she still has hope for the future of her country and her classmates.

“I have had dreams. With what I have been through, some of the dreams are scary. But now my dreams are good,” ‘Sa’a’ (a pseudonym used for protection), told congressmen at a hearing of the House Subcommittee on Africa, Global Health, Global Human Rights. I have a dream of a safe Nigeria; a Nigeria where girls can go to school without fear of being kidnapped; a Nigeria where girls like me are not made into suicide bombers and little boys are not routinely stolen and turned into terrorists.”

You can watch her full testimony here.

Below are excerpts from Sa’a’s submitted written testimony:

I am one of the 276 Schoolgirls who was kidnapped from the Government Secondary School in Chibok by the terror group Boko Haram. Sa’a is not my real name. It is a name that I use for my protection.

Before attending the Chibok Secondary school, I also survived an earlier Boko Haram attack at my former high school. After I escaped from that school invasion, my parents decided to move me to the Chibok Secondary School because they thought that it would be a safer place nearer home for me to continue my education.

However, on the 14th of April 2014, the Boko Haram came to my school at Chibok when we were all sleeping at night. They were shooting guns and yelling. They were yelling, “Allahu Akbar.” Everyone woke up, and came out of their rooms. We were wearing our pajamas when they came in. They asked us, “Where are the boys?” The boys are day students. The boys usually came to school in the morning but went home after school. They also asked us where the food was kept. They pointed out two girls to show them where the food store was and took it in a truck. Then they made us move from where we were staying to the class area. Next, they started burning everything – our clothes, our books, our classrooms – everything in our school.

They marched us out of the school for miles to where their trucks were. Then they asked us to enter the trucks and said that if we did not, they were going to shoot all of us. We were all scared, so we entered the trucks. They started driving us through the forest. When we were all riding in the trucks through the forest, I just had this feeling I should try to escape because I don’t know where I’m going and neither do my parents. I said to one of my friends that “I’m going to jump out of the truck. I would rather die so my parents will see my body and bury it than to go with the Boko Haram.”

So my friend said, “OK.” She would jump out with me. I jumped out first, and she jumped after me. We hid in the forest while the cars passed. We were in the forest that night without knowing what to do. It was very dark. We didn’t know where we were. My friend injured both of her legs from jumping. She couldn’t walk. We just sat under a tree until morning. She cried. She said that I should go home and let her die in the forest. I said, “No. If we are going to die, we are going to die together. I won’t leave you here.”

I decided to go and look for help in forest. I was going around not far from where we slept, and I found a Fulani man – a shepherd. I asked him for help, but he said, “No, I can’t help you.” So I tried to convince him. Then he did help us. He put my friend on his bicycle and took us to Chibok, and that’s how we got home.

Before I got home in the morning, my parents heard what happened in my school and one of my brothers and his friend went back to Chibok to find out what happened. When I got home, my mom, my dad, and my family, everyone was crying. Our neighbors came to the house. They were all happy and crying because I’m home, but they were asking about the other girls. There was a man who came to my home. He was asking about his daughters. I told him we managed to escape, but I didn’t know if his daughters would manage to escape the way we did. I didn’t know what happened next after we jumped out of the truck…

Recently I saw the video of some of my classmates that were missing for two years now. I am glad to see that some of them are alive. The moment I saw them and recognized their faces, I started crying, with tears of joy coming rolling down from my eyes, thanking God for their lives. Seeing them has given me more courage not to give up. Seeing them gives me the courage to tell the world today that we should not lose hope.

Boko Haram, now also known as The Islamic State in West Africa, is now considered the deadliest terror organization in the world, with a deal toll surpassing that of ISIS. According to a report at the International Business Times, the group, which is primarily organized in and around northeastern Nigeria, has killed roughly 20,000 people and displaced over 2 million others since 2009.

More than two years have passed since the “Chibok girls” were kidnapped by Boko Haram in a nighttime raid on their northern Nigerian Boarding school April 2014. Despite efforts by the Nigerian government, 219 of them still remain missing. According to another IB Times story, Andrew Pocock, the former British High Commissioner to Nigeria, revealed in a March interview that both the U.S. and U.K. knew about the location of at least 80 of the kidnapped girls, but declined to enact rescue operations for them because it was deemed “too risky.”

“A couple of months after the kidnapping, flybys and an American eye in the sky spotted a group of up to 80 girls in a particular spot in the Sambisa forest, around a very large tree, called locally the Tree of Life, along with evidence of vehicular movement and a large encampment,” Pocock diplomat told a British newspaper. “A land-based attack would have been seen coming miles away and the girls killed. An air-based rescue, such as flying in helicopters or Hercules, would have required large numbers and meant a significant risk to the rescuers and even more so to the girls.”

When asked about the statement, a spokesman for the U.S. State Department responded:

“The United States continues to support actively the efforts to locate and bring home the Chibok girls along with other kidnapped victims of Boko Haram’s acts of terrorism. The search for the kidnapped schoolgirls is ongoing. While the Nigerian government maintains its lead role, the United States continues to lend its unique assets and capabilities to assist in the search.”

Video released by CNN last month and reportedly filmed in December seems to show at least fifteen of the girls alive with “no obvious signs of maltreatment.”

However, once the girls return home, things do not necessarily return to normal for them.

“Young girls and women who have been raped, but released, by Boko Haram face extreme stigmatization from their communities where many label them as ‘Boko Haram wives. and fear that they have been radicalized and will be potential attackers,” testified former Congressman Frank Wolf, who is now Distinguished Senior Fellow at the 21st Century Wilberforce Initiative at the same hearing.

“They’re victims twice. They’re victims when they’re captured and they’re victims when they’re released.” (For more from the author of “Watch: Boko Haram Survivor Tells the Story of Her Escape” please click HERE)

Report: Western Intelligence Knew Location of Girls Boko Haram Kidnapped, Did Nothing

A high-ranking British official has revealed that Western intelligence agents were able to locate dozens of the nearly 300 Nigerian girls kidnapped by Boko Haram in April 2014 months after the abduction, but refused to act to save them, citing the danger of multiple deaths during a rescue attempt.

Former British high commissioner to Nigeria Andrew Pocock told The Sunday Times that it took mere months following the Boko Haram raid for British and American forces to locate the girls in the dense Sambisa Forest of northern Nigeria that Boko Haram used as an operating base.

He said:

A couple of months after the kidnapping, fly-bys and an American eye in the sky spotted a group of up to 80 girls in a particular spot in the Sambisa forest, around a very large tree, locally called the Tree of Life, along with evidence of vehicular movement and a large encampment.

At the time, the government of Nigeria had not officially requested international aid, limiting the action these groups could take. (Read more from “Report: Western Intelligence Knew Location of Girls Boko Haram Kidnapped, Did Nothing” HERE)

Children Bombed, Burned Alive by Islamists in Nigeria and Syria

By CBN News. Islamic terrorists have struck again. This past weekend, Boko Haram burned children alive in Nigeria, and ISIS bombed school children in Syria.

Homes were seen smoldering and in piles of ashes in the village of Dalori, Nigeria following a Boko Haram rampage Saturday night.

For four hours, heavily armed gunmen and at least three suicide bombers attacked. They set much of the village afire. Children let out bloodcurdling screams as they burned alive in their huts . . .

Charred corpses and bullet-ridden bodies were counted Sunday. At least 86 people were killed and another 62 people injured in the attack. Three females were among the suicide bombers. (Read more from “Children Bombed, Burned Alive by Islamists in Nigeria and Syria” HERE)

North Carolina Teen, 19, Charged With Supporting ISIS Is Now Also Charged With His Elderly Neighbor’s Murder

By Clemence Michallon and Associated Press. A North Carolina teen accused of planning a terrorist attack in support of ISIS has also been charged with killing his neighbor.

Justin Nojan Sullivan, 19, of Morganton, North Carolina, took a rifle from his father’s gun cabinet and used it to kill his 74-year-old neighbor, prosecutors said.

The teenager, who is currently in federal custody awaiting trial, was arrested over the summer and accused of planning terrorist killings in the US.

Sullivan is facing seven charges related to terrorism, including attempting to provide material support to ISIS, several firearm charges and trying to hire someone to kill his parents, a federal indictment unsealed today showed. Shock Claim: Why Obama Refused to Help Fight Boko Haram

glassesAllegations are mounting that the Obama administration withheld weapons and intelligence support from Nigeria’s fight against Boko Haram in an effort to boost the chances of the Muslim candidate for president, who is a client of the political firm founded by key Obama strategist David Axelrod.

Nigerians this weekend are deciding a very competitive race between incumbent Christian President Dr. Ebele Goodluck Jonathan and retired Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, who ruled as dictator there from 1983 until 1985, when he was removed through a coup. Buhari has previously vowed to institute Shariah law in the Muslim-dominated parts of the country if elected.

With the guidance of Axelrod’s firm, Buhari has tamped down talk of Shariah nearing election day and even added a Pentecostal Christian as his running mate.

Boko Haram is a radical Islamist terrorist group that recently pledged allegiance to the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, or ISIS. In recent years, Boko Haram has slaughtered entire villages, burned countless churches and targeted Christians and moderate Muslims for death. It received global attention last year for abducting nearly 300 Nigerian schoolgirls.

The Obama-Axelrod connection to the Nigerian elections and its impact on U.S. policy toward Boko Haram is laid out in a detailed piece by James Simpson for Accuracy in Media.

Obama Accused of Obstructing Battle against Boko Haram to Promote Axelrod’s Nigerian Muslim Client [+video]

timthumbWhen the notorious Islamic terrorist group, Boko Haram, kidnapped 278 school girls from the town of Chibok in northeastern Nigeria last year, Michelle Obama began a Twitter hashtag campaign, #BringBackOurGirls. But behind the scenes, the Obama administration was undermining Nigeria’s efforts to take the battle to the terrorists. Obama refused to sell Nigeria arms and supplies critical to the fight, and stepped in to block other Western allies from doing so. The administration also denied Nigeria intelligence on Boko Haram from drones operating in the area. While Boko Haram was kidnapping school girls, the U.S. cut petroleum purchases from Nigeria to zero, plunging the nation’s economy into turmoil and raising concerns about its ability to fund its battle against the terrorists. Nigeria responded by cancelling a military training agreement between the two countries.

The Nigerian presidential election is coming up Saturday, March 28, 2015. AKPD, the political consulting group founded by Obama confidante David Axelrod, is assisting Retired Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, a Muslim presidential candidate from Muslim-dominated northern Nigeria, where Boko Haram was spawned and wields the most influence. Buhari is well-known throughout the country, having led as “Head-of-State” following a military coup in 1983. He was dislodged following another coup in 1985.

Democracy is a recent phenomenon in Nigeria. With the exception of two short periods from its independence in 1960 to 1966, and the second republic from 1979 to 1983, the country was ruled by a string of military dictatorships between 1966 and 1999.

Under the All Progressives Congress (APC) banner, Buhari is putting up a stiff challenge to the sitting president, Dr. Ebele Goodluck Jonathan who hails from Nigeria’s Christian south. Buhari was also the North’s presidential candidate in the last election held in 2011.

Axelrod is credited as the force behind President Obama’s election victories in 2008 and 2012. He served as Obama’s Senior Advisor until 2011. A well-placed Nigerian interviewed for this report who asked to remain unidentified says that influential Nigerians within and outside the government believe Obama deliberately undermined the war effort and sabotaged the Nigerian economy to make President Jonathan appear weak and ineffectual, and thus bolster the electoral prospects for AKPD’s client, Buhari.

The prominent daily Nigerian Tribune cites an activist group, Move on Nigeria, complaining that the U.S. is fueling tension in Nigeria and has “continued to publicly magnify every challenge of the Nigerian government.”

An anti-Buhari Nigerian blogger writing in the Western Post went further:

In the last year, Nigeria sought aid from the White House for many initiatives, including the fight against Boko Haram.

The Obama administration refused to do anything but play [sic] lip service to Nigeria’s requests. However, it used public and private channels to internationally magnify every failure Nigeria’s government experienced.

In the last year, since the involvement of Axelrod’s firm, relations between the two nations have significantly deteriorated, with the US refusing to sell arms to Nigeria, a significant reduction in the purchase of Nigeria’s oil, and the cancellation of a military training agreement between Nigeria and the USA.

In turn, the Buhari-led Nigerian opposition used the U.S. government’s position as validation for their claim that the Nigerian government was a failure.

[Editor’s note: the below video is a podcast from an interview with this story’s author earlier this month]

Nigerian officials seeking to purchase weapons, especially Cobra attack helicopters, were outraged at Obama’s refusal to allow these transactions. Nigeria’s ambassador to the U.S., Professor Adebowale Adefuye, stated publicly that:

The U.S. government has up till today refused to grant Nigeria’s request to purchase lethal equipment that would have brought down the terrorists within a short time on the basis of the allegations that Nigeria’s defence forces have been violating human rights of Boko Haram suspects when captured or arrested.

We find it difficult to understand how and why, in spite of the U.S. presence in Nigeria, with their sophisticated military technology, Boko Haram should be expanding and becoming more deadly.

Another official quoted in the Nigerian newspaper ThisDay, stated:

The U.S. government has frustrated Nigeria all the way in our war against terrorism despite its public statements in support of Nigeria, as it fights the Boko Haram insurgents in the North-east… They want us to fight Boko Haram with our arms tied to our backs.

They have blocked us from procuring the helicopters and would not provide us with intelligence despite the fact that they have several drones and sophisticated aircraft overflying the North-east of Nigeria from bases in Niger and Chad where the Boko Haram fighters and movements are clearly in their sights.

Retired Col. Abubakar Umar, a former military governor, concluded that the Americans “have decided to turn a blind eye to what is happening in Nigeria.”

Former Head-of-State, Retired Gen. Yakubu Gowon publicly stated last November that America is no friend of Nigeria.

After exhausting all avenues, the Nigerian government finally turned to Russia, China and the black market to obtain needed arms, and as a result has gone aggressively on the offensive against Boko Haram, retaking some 40 towns occupied by the group and killing at least 500 terrorists. According to recent accounts, Boko Haram has gone to ground in the northeastern border regions. But whereas the border states of Niger, Chad, Benin and Cameroon formerly took a hands-off approach, they have now joined in the effort to destroy the group, pledging a total of 8,700 troops. Most recently, Boko Haram has been cleared of its northeastern strongholds in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa.

U.S. Excuses

The Obama administration has said it is barred from supplying weapons by the so-called Leahy Amendment which forbids foreign states that have committed “gross human rights violations” from receiving military aid. However this did not stop the U.S. from sending Special Forces to Uganda—another country accused of such violations—to assist in capturing Lord Resistance Army leader Joseph Kony. Nor did it prevent Obama from supporting al Qaeda-linked rebel groups in Libya, who later went on to attack the Benghazi mission, and have now joined ISIS. The Syrian “moderates” the administration claimed to back are also allegedly joining with ISIS.

In fact, Obama supported the Islamic radicals who destabilized states throughout the Middle East, including Tunisia, Libya and Egypt, and did little to prevent Iranian-backed Shiites from overthrowing Yemen—a key ally in the War on Terror. And despite claims that the U.S. “does not negotiate with terrorists,” the administration did so in secret with the Taliban for years, most notoriously over the release of Bowe Bergdahl.

The U.S. State Department is currently negotiating a deal that will enable Iran to obtain the bomb, and it just declared that Iran and its Lebanese proxy, Hezbollah, are not terrorists. The administration even claims Iran has been an ally in the War on Terror! Finally, Axelrod’s client, Buhari, has been accused of human rights abuses during his time as chief-of-state.

To top it off, Secretary of State John Kerry made a mockery of the administration’s pretext by hinting in January meetings with both Jonathan and Buhari that the Obama administration might allow weapon sales after the election. If the U.S. was so concerned about human rights violations, how could a mere election change that? Given the perception that Buhari has Obama’s implicit support, this sends an unmistakable message.

The administration also rationalized its decision to cut purchases of Nigerian oil by claiming that output from domestic oil fracking has reduced America’s dependence on foreign oil. But that begs the question: why have U.S. oil imports from other nations increased at the same time? Nigeria was formerly among America’s top five oil supplying countries, and America its largest customer. Nigeria relies on oil revenues for 70 percent of its budget. America’s decision to look elsewhere has been catastrophic for Nigeria’s economy.

A Deutsche Bank analyst noted that the decline in Nigeria’s oil sales to America “proceeded much faster than for the U.S.’ other major suppliers,” and concluded that singling Nigeria out this way had to be driven by politics.

Nigeria is not the only country where Obama is using oil as a foreign policy weapon. The U.S. has not renewed its 35-year-old agreement with Israel to provide emergency supplies of oil, despite booming U.S. oil production. The agreement expired in November 2014. At the time, the State Department claimed to be working on renewing the agreement, but has yet to do so.

U.S. Media AWOL

There is not a single article mentioning Axelrod’s assistance to Buhari in any U.S. “mainstream” media outlet. Only the Washington Free Beacon ran a story.

A Google search of “New York Times, Nigeria, Axelrod,” found only one Times article titled Nigerian Soldiers Noticeably Absent in Town Taken from Boko Haram. There was no mention of Axelrod or his relationship to Nigeria’s Muslim candidate, Buhari. Rather, it criticized Nigeria’s participation in the recent multi-country effort to remove Boko Haram from its northeastern Nigerian holdouts, quoting Chadian foreign minister, Moussa Faki Mahamat, who said, “The Nigerian Army has not succeeded in facing up to Boko Haram.”

There are however, many flattering articles about Axelrod, like the Times review of his book, Believer.

NBC News reported on the oil issue, quoting Peter Pham, the Atlantic Council’s director of its Africa Program, who characterized it as “a sea change in [Nigeria’s] relations with the United States, a sea change in its geopolitical position in the world.”

NBC also noted Nigerian ambassador Adefuye’s complaint about U.S. refusal to provide weapons to Nigeria, and how both issues impacted Nigeria’s ability to fight Boko Haram—but there was no mention of Axelrod’s assistance to Buhari.

Buhari Connected to Boko Haram?

Boko Haram is a virulently anti-Western Islamist movement. Its name, roughly translated, means “fake education is forbidden,” but in practice the term “fake” refers to Western education. It was founded in 2002 by Mohammed Yusuf, a Salafist preacher who created a school to provide an Islamic alternative to Westernized schools. Over time it became a recruiting tool for Boko Haram fighters. The group envisions creating an Islamic caliphate throughout Africa. Yusuf was killed by police in a 2009 uprising, and was replaced by Abubakar Shekau, who recently pledged the group’s alliance with ISIS. Let’s review just what kind of monsters these Boko Haram terrorists are:

• Causing at least 9,000 and as many as 17,000 deaths since launching their insurgency in 2009. Another 1.5 million have been displaced;
Burning entire villages to the ground;
Beheading, torture and other forms of barbarity reminiscent of ISIS;
• Massacring 2,000 civilian men, women and children in a single raid;
• Deliberately targeting children for massacre;
• Using young girls as suicide bombers. A January bombing wounded 18 and killed 20, including the 10-year-old female bomber, who was probably unaware she carried the device;
• Kidnapping over 500 girls in the past 5 years, including 276 in the notorious Chibok private school raid. About 90 percent of the Chibok girls were Christians;
• Separating captured Christian girls from others, where they are raped, sold into slavery, murdered, or forced to convert; and
Training young children to be soldiers.

Certain Buhari supporters such as Ango Abdullahi of the Northern Elders Forum (NEF), have been accused of tacitly supporting Boko Haram, and Jonathan’s Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has linked Buhari himself with the terrorists. The alleged connection however, is an open question. In 2013, Buhari protested a government crackdown on the group. In 2012, Boko Haram nominated Buhari as one of six mediators in negotiations with the government over a proposed ceasefire. In 2001, Buhari expressed his desire to see Nigeria ruled by Sharia law, saying:

I will continue to show openly and inside me the total commitment to the Sharia movement that is sweeping all over Nigeria… God willing, we will not stop the agitation for the total implementation of the Sharia in the country.

However, Boko Haram attempted to assassinate Buhari last year in a suicide bomb attack that killed 82. More recently, the group called both him and Jonathan “Infidels.” For his part, Buhari called the group “bigots masquerading as Muslims.” Buhari also ruthlessly suppressed a similar group, the Maitatsine, during his time as military head-of-state. Buhari’s vice-presidential running mate is a Pentecostal pastor from the south. Similarly, Jonathan picked a Muslim from the north as his number two.

But much violence has surrounded Buhari’s past efforts. Nigeria has a practice of alternating northern and southern rule called zoning. In the 2011 election, Jonathan was president, having ascended from the vice presidency in 2010 following the death of President Umaru Yar’Adau, a northerner. Some Northern politicians believed that Buhari should have assumed the presidency in 2011.

Abdullahi and others, at that time, threatened violence if Buhari wasn’t elected. Buhari himself refused to condemn violence. This was universally interpreted as encouragement from Buhari. Within hours of Jonathan’s election—what was believed to be one of Nigeria’s historically fairest—Buhari’s Muslim supporters took to the streets, attacking Jonathan supporters with machetes and knives. Following Jonathan’s inauguration, Boko Haram launched a wave of bombings, killing and wounding dozens. An estimated 800 people died in the post-election violence in the Muslim north.

A prominent Nigerian deputy governor, Tele Ikuru, who recently abandoned the APC to join Jonathan’s PDP, called the APC “a party of rebels, insurgents and anarchists, clothed in the robes of pretence and deceit.”

Embarrassed by the kidnapping and the perceived association between Buhari’s supporters and Boko Haram, AKPD claimed that they discontinued work for Buhari in early 2014. However, The Washington Free Beacon has unearthed emails showing that they continued to quietly aid APC into at least January of this year.

Their campaign appears to have been successful. While Nigerian election polls are conflicting, the most recent one projects Buhari the winner by a wide margin. Not surprisingly, the reasons cited for Jonathan’s unpopularity include the perception that he is weak and ineffectual against Boko Haram, and that the economy is in a sorry state. Nigerians have taken to calling the president “Bad Luck” Jonathan.

Nigeria’s Critical Role and U.S. Policy Failures

Most Americans are unaware of the critical role Nigeria plays in African politics. In addition to being Africa’s largest oil producer, Nigeria is also the continent’s most populous nation, with an estimated 162 million people, and is home to approximately 12.5 percent of the world’s total black population. Additionally, Nigerian Americans are very productive and well represented in the fields of medicine, sports, engineering, and academics. Annual remittances are $21 billion, with America providing the largest proportion. It is ironic at best that America’s so-called “first black president” is alienating such a nation, especially given its powerful influence throughout Africa.

Because of Obama, America is losing allies the world over. Despite his so-called outreach to “the Muslim world,” the few Muslim allies America has are calling him out. For example, observe the unprecedented spectacle of Arabs cheering Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s speech before the U.S. Congress. Columnist Dr. Ahmad Al-Faraj of the Saudi daily newspaper Al-Jazirah, called Obama “the worst president in American history.” The only Muslims Obama seems to like are those who hate America, and he is going out of his way to court them, come what may.

Since Boko Haram is Running Low on Suicide Bombers, You’ll Never Guess What They’re Using as an Alternative

Nigerian Islamist militant group Boko Haram is plotting to use cattle as suicide bombers, officials have said.

Nigerian authorities also suspect that the extremist group, which aims at establishing an Islamic caliphate in the country, is preparing dozens of suicide bombers to carry out large-scale attacks.

Mike Omer, coordinator of the National Information Centre, said: “Available intelligence reports indicate a plan by Boko Haram to use young male suicide bombers disguised as cobblers to hide explosives in their tool boxes and detonate them on soft target areas such as markets, restaurants, ATM locations, political rallies, worship centres as well as other public places,” according to Nigeria’s Vanguard daily.

“Also, there is indication of a plan by this group to use livestock such as, goats, cows, donkeys and camels laden with explosives to attack chosen targets.”

The extremist group is on a rampage killing thousands of people in Nigeria and neighbouring countries over the past several years as the armed insurgency has risen sharply in the recent months. Boko Haram Swears Allegiance to ISIS

By Fox News. A message allegedly from the head of Nigeria’s Boko Haram terror group Saturday pledged his group’s allegiance to Islamic State.

The pledge to IS came in an Arabic audio message with English subtitles alleged to have come from Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau and posted Saturday on Twitter, according to the SITE Intelligence monitoring service.

“We announce our allegiance to the Caliph of the Muslims … and will hear and obey in times of difficulty and prosperity, in hardship and ease, and to endure being discriminated against, and not to dispute about rule with those in power, except in case of evident infidelity regarding that which there is a proof from Allah,” said the message. IS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi has declared himself the caliph.

The message was posted on Twitter, hours after Boko Haram was blamed for four suicide bomb attacks in northeastern Nigeria that killed at least 54 people and wounded more than 140 people. (Read more from “Boko Haram Swears Allegiance to ISIS” HERE)

Australian Teens Stopped at Airport for Attempting to Join ISIS

By Associated Press. Two Australian brothers aged 16 and 17 were stopped at Sydney Airport on suspicion that they were young jihadis headed to join the Islamic State group, officials said Sunday.

The young brothers from Sydney raised the suspicions of customs officials as they attempted to depart on Friday afternoon, Border Protection Minister Peter Dutton said.

He did not say where the pair were headed apart from a Middle Eastern “conflict zone.” He also refused to say what was found in the boys’ luggage that raised suspicion and led to the brothers beings reported to the airport’s new counterterrorism unit.

“These two young men aged 16 and 17 are kids, not killers, and they shouldn’t be allowed to go to a foreign land to fight then come back to our land eventually more radicalized,” Dutton told reporters. (Read more from this story HERE)
