Boehner Tries To Resuscitate Dying Border Bill

In the Speaker’s lobby just off the House floor, members of Congress were full of recriminations over how the border bill had just died—until it sprang back to life.

Now they have emerged from a last minute conference meeting vowing to “stay until we vote” and planning another meeting for tomorrow morning at 9:00 am, although it’s unclear what changes either to the legislative package or the support for the current one will occur in the meantime.

Inside the meeting, Rep. Raul Labrador (R-ID) vowed that if need be, he would miss his son’s upcoming wedding to stay in Washington to pass the bill.

But other lawmakers were punchy.

“Well, let’s see, I’ve been bitching about this for, what, 15 months? Democrats wants the votes and Republicans want cheap labor. They didn’t want to do anything with it, now they’re going to wait until the last minute? You know, I have a forum I’m supposed to be at, I can’t be, on this very subject,” Michigan Rep. Kerry Bentivolio said.

By The Associated Press.

Republican U.S. Senate hopeful Joe Miller says the U.S. should bill the governments of people who enter this country illegally for policing, housing, food and transportation.

Miller’s campaign Wednesday released a seven-point plan for addressing illegal immigration.

The proposal also calls for immediate completion of a fence along the southern border of the U.S. and stopping benefits, like health care, for people who are in this country illegally.

Miller Outlines Seven-Step Plan to Address Border/Illegal Alien Crisis

Joe Miller outlined a seven-step plan today to address the growing crisis on our nation’s southern border.

“The crisis of illegal immigration we’re facing is not only unnecessary, it is being instigated by the Obama Administration,” said Miller. “It’s time we take some simple steps to ensure the integrity of our borders and the security of the American people.”

The seven-step plan consists of the following policies:

1. End all foreign aid to countries encouraging illegals to cross our borders.
2. Finish the border fence now.
3. Stop encouraging illegal entry with birthright citizenship.
4. Bill the governments of illegals for policing, housing, feeding, and transporting their citizens.
5. Implement E-verify now and fine companies for employing illegals.
6. End the Immigration and Naturalization Services (INS) lottery that gives citizenship to 55,000 random people every year.
7. Stop the endless benefits to illegals – healthcare, schooling, social services, etc. – which are a form of taxation on American citizens.

Earlier this week, Miller called on his Republican opponents to join him in calling for the President’s impeachment, in part due to Obama’s lawlessness on the amnesty issue. So far, his call has elicited no response.

Miller concluded, “With these seven, simple, common sense steps we could fix this problem once and for all. The crisis that the President and this Congress have essentially created is unconscionable. Promising a safe haven with many of the same benefits as citizens is unacceptable. It’s time for Congress not only to act with respect to fixing the problem, but also to hold Barrack Obama accountable.”

Obama’s Self-Made Border Crisis

“You didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen.” In the case of the ongoing crisis along America’s southwest border, that someone is President Obama. When the president used his pen to sign the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, or DACA, memorandum on June 15, 2012, he effectively rolled out the welcome mat to those abroad seeking to immigrate illegally.

The numbers are undeniable. From 2011 to 2013, the number of minors crossing the border illegally increased threefold, from roughly 8,000 to 24,668. Officials initially estimated that number would soar to 60,000 this year, though it is now expected to be close to 90,000.

Some have attempted to attribute the sudden wave of migration to factors other than the actions taken by the Obama administration. Most frequently cited is the stunning violence plaguing Central America, but according to United Nations data the region’s dramatic increase in violence began in 2007.

The other frequently cited cause is a little-known anti-trafficking law that gave additional protections to certain immigrant minors, but that law passed in 2008. While those two factors may intensify the crisis, there was no greater pull factor than the president’s executive decree forbidding immigration officials from enforcing the law.

Joaquín Castro: Rick Perry ‘Militarizing’ Border

By Jonathan Topaz.

Texas Rep. Joaquín Castro on Monday said Gov. Rick Perry is “militarizing our border” with his decision to deploy state National Guard troops there.

“We should be sending the Red Cross to the border not the National Guard to deal with this humanitarian crisis,” the Democratic congressman said in an email. “The children fleeing violence in Central America are seeking out Border Patrol agents. They are not trying to evade them. Why send soldiers to confront these kids?”

“Militarizing our border is the wrong response to the arrival of children,” Castro continued. “I remain hopeful that our state can provide a more helpful response than to send armed soldiers to greet children seeking refuge from violence.”

Castro was responding to a report from a Texas newspaper The Monitor that Perry is planning to deploy up to 1,000 Texas National Guard troops to the U.S.-Mexico border.

At a news conference on Monday in Austin, Perry announced that he has directed the state’s adjutant general to immediately prepare to deploy the forces to help secure the southern border. “I will not stand idly by,” he said in announcing Operation Strong Safety. “The price of inaction is too high.”

Gov. Rick Perry deploying up to 1,000 National Guard troops to border

By Rebecca Kaplan.

Gov. Rick Perry, R-Texas, announced Monday that he is activating up to 1,000 National Guard troops to the U.S.-Mexico border as he accuses the federal government of offering “lip service” on border security.

The announcement comes as the Obama administration is still struggling to deal with the influx of more than 50,000 unaccompanied minors, most from Central America, who have crossed into the United States in the past year. The additional resources are not aimed at the children themselves, Perry said, describing them instead as a “force multiplier” to help the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) “combat the brutal Mexican drug cartels that are preying upon our communities.”

“I will not stand idly by while our citizens are under assault and little children from Central America are detained in squalor. We are too good of a country,” Perry said.

The troops could detain people if asked, Texas Adjutant General John Nichols said at the press conference with Perry, but they are planning to play a “referring and deterring” role by deterring cartels with their visible presence and referring any immigrants suspected of being in the country illegally to DPS.

Perry argued that the elevated response at the border by DPS personnel has already has already acted as a deterrent force and reduced apprehensions. That operation comes at a cost of $1.3 million per week. A state memo obtained by the McAllen Monitor, which first reported Perry’s plan to deploy the National Guard, indicated the new efforts will cost the state of Texas $12 million per month.

Here's How Obama Wants To Spend A Whopping $3.7 Billion To Deal With The Border Crisis

Photo Credit: REUTERS / Kevin LamarquePresident Barack Obama is requesting $3.7 billion in emergency funding to deal with the humanitarian crisis along the U.S.-Mexico border, where thousands of migrants — many of them unaccompanied children — have flooded across the border in recent months.

The White House formally asked Congress on Tuesday for $3.7 billion to improve border security along the border, to improve housing conditions where the migrants are being kept, and to speed up deportation proceedings. The amount is almost $2 billion more than earlier reports suggested the Obama administration would request.

White House officials said last month that, as of June 15, 52,000 unaccompanied children from Central America have been apprehended at the U.S.-Mexico border this year. In addition, border officials have taken 39,000 more adults with children into custody as of May 31.

Hundreds are coming over the border every day, mostly making their way from violence-stricken areas in Honduras, Guatemala, and El Salvador. The causes for the influx are many, but a large portion are children fleeing increased drug and gang violence.

WATCH: Flashback, Obama Mocks GOP on Border Security: ‘They’ll Want a Moat’ and ‘Alligators in the Moat’

Photo Credit: White HouseBy Michael Chapman.

In a speech near the U.S.-Mexico border in El Paso, Texas on May 10, 2011, President Barack Obama noted the steps taken by his administration to strengthen border security, but said Republicans in Congress were never satisfied and mocked that they will want a “higher fence” and then “a moat,” and then “alligators in the moat.”

“So, here’s the point,” said Obama, speaking outside to a crowd in El Paso. “I want everybody to listen carefully to this. We have gone above and beyond what was requested by the very Republicans who said they supported broader reform as long as we got serious about enforcement. All the stuff they asked for, we’ve done.”

“But even though we’ve answered these concerns, I’ve got to say I suspect there are still going to be some who are trying to move the goal posts on us one more time,” said the president.

By Neil Munro.

President Barack Obama is asking Congress to provide free lawyers to the illegal immigrants surging across the U.S. border from Central America.

The request for $18 million of free legal services, which White House officials describe as an emergency, is included in White House request to Congress for $3.7 billion.

Most of those funds are needed to process, care for and feed the growing flow of immigrants, which is already at 100,000 since last October, says the administration.

If the GOP funds the request for lawyers, they will help many of the illegals win green cards, which will allow them permanent access to the nation’s generous social and welfare programs, including Obamacare.

A spokesman for House Speaker John Boehner declined to comment on the request for lawyers.

Boy's Death Highlights Danger of Border Crossings

Photo Credit: APWhen authorities found an 11-year-old Guatemalan boy’s body about a mile from Texas’ southern border, they also discovered his brother’s Chicago phone number scribbled on the inside of his belt buckle.

The boy, wearing “Angry Birds” jeans, black leather boots and a white rosary around his neck, had apparently gotten lost on his way north from his native country and was found about two weeks ago, alone in the brush less than a mile from the nearest U.S. home, a South Texas sheriff said Monday.

While hundreds of immigrants die crossing the border each year, the discovery of Gilberto Francisco Ramos Juarez’s decomposed body in the Rio Grande Valley on June 15 highlights the perils unaccompanied children face as the U.S. government searches for ways to deal with record numbers of children crossing into the country illegally.

“Down here finding a decomposed body … we come across them quite often,” Hidalgo County Sheriff Eddie Guerra said, adding that this was the first child immigrant his office has found since he became sheriff in April. “It’s a very dangerous journey.”

More than 52,000 unaccompanied children have been apprehended entering the U.S. illegally since October, creating what President Barack Obama has called an “urgent humanitarian situation.” On Monday, Obama asked Congress for more money and additional authority to deal with the surge of youths, mostly from Central America. Obama wants flexibility to speed the youths’ deportations and $2 billion to hire more immigration judges and open more detention facilities.

White House Now Faults Republicans for Weak Border Security

Photo Credit: AP / Jacquelyn MartinAfter previously saying America’s borders are more secure than ever, the White House on Tuesday seemingly blamed Republicans for apparent holes along the southern boundary, evidenced by the flood of unaccompanied children streaming into the U.S. from Mexico, Central America and elsewhere.

White House press secretary Josh Earnest challenged Republicans, if they are truly concerned about border security, to back the comprehensive immigration reform package that passed the Senate last year and is strongly supported by President Obama.

A Country That Does Not Control its Borders… Is No Longer a Country

Photo Credit: Irish Central There are those in the community who would gladly grant 40 million “illegals” amnesty in order to get a few thousands of their own in.

President Obama, fresh off his victory of ramming an untouched Obamacare past a recalcitrant congress, has set his sights on pushing “immigration reform” through.

Obama and his allies on the left, have their sites set on gaining millions of dependable new voters, which would permanently tilt the political tables in their favor.

Those on the right, who back big business, see the gain of having access to cheap labor.

But who is looking out for the citizens of the United States?

Contrary to the politicians rosy estimates of just 11 million illegals amongst us, other authoritative sources claim that number is closer to 40 million. See Tim Donnelly and immigration.

40 million, many uneducated, low skilled immigrants given access to benefits (Obamacare), SNAP & other entitlements for their children, with eventual citizenship and voting rights, is a game changer for the country….

……A game changer of borders, language and culture. especially if overwhelming numbers of those immigrants are from third world countries….Or countries in Europe who expect a nanny state government to provide them with “entitlements.”

Little is said in the media of how porous our borders really are. But in many locations along our southern border, anyone can walk into our country; we do not know who they are, or where they came from. See: Border Like No Country For Old Men.

Yet politicians with an agenda like Senator Chuck Schumer say they’ll address the porous borders, after amnesty is granted to those here illegally….That is the same as slamming the barn door after the cows have escaped.

The borders need to be locked down now, securely, first and foremost before any talk of what to do with those already here illegally.

No country retains its character if it does not control its borders AND who it allows to settle within those borders. The Roman Empire found that out the hard way, other countries throughout history have learned this and countries of the EU are experiencing it right now.

US immigration policy should be focused on: What is best for the United States and encourage the best and brightest from around the world to become citizens.

The practice/abuse of “anchor babies” needs to end….The United States is the only country in the world stupid enough to let itself be exploited this way. If your parents are non citizens and you happen to come out here, you are not automatically a citizen of the US.

Turn the visa system and green cards over to the private sector to manage, the government is incompetent. Companies like American Express/Master Card or Visa, know how to manage cards, they will not allow overstays, or other abuses of our immigration laws.

Congressman Reveals Obama Policy That Opened Asylum Floodgates

asylum1Rep. Bob Goodlatte (R-VA) has sent a letter to Department of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano that reveals the Obama administration policy of asylum overwhelms the ability to enforce laws. This comes in the wake of a Breitbart News story about the sudden surge of “credible fear” requests at Mexico/U.S. border crossings.

The letter begins by referencing the story that Breitbart News brought to national prominence:

“Dear Secretary Napolitano,

I write regarding the recent surge in foreign nationals, largely from Mexico, claiming asylum at U.S. ports of entry. This surge has been overwhelming Border Patrol agents in San Diego, California. Border Patrol agents reported that in one day 200 aliens came through the Otay Mesa, San Diego port of entry while as many as 550 overflowed the processing center there and in nearby San Ysidro claiming a “credible fear” of the drug cartels in Mexico.”

Rep. Goodlatte then lays out the concern that another Breitbart News story pointed out—that the asylum process is being exploited by Mexican nationals—and highlights the surge in such claims since 2009:

“Such claims have increased from 5,222 in 2009 to 23,408 in just the first three quarters of 2013. According to the most recent data available, DHS is permitting 92% of these claimants to move forward to further proceedings, despite the fact that press reports indicate that up to 91% of these claimants from Mexico are ultimately denied. In addition, most are likely being released into the U.S. pending further proceedings before Immigration Judges as opposed to being detained as required by law.”
