Children’s Hospital Fires 15 Nurses After 12-Year-Old Patient’s Suicide

A children’s hospital has terminated the employment of fifteen nurses and disciplined another following the tragic suicide of a 12-year-old patient who slipped out of her room and died after jumping from a hospital parking garage.

The patient, Sarah Niyimbona, described by family as a caring and outspoken middle schooler, died on April 13. She had been admitted multiple times in 2024 for suicide attempts. Despite her history of self-harm, safety measures such as a round-the-clock sitter, video monitoring, and door alarms were reportedly removed prior to the incident, according to a family lawsuit cited by Investigate West.

Sarah’s mother, Nasra Gertrude, expressed deep frustration and sorrow over the hospital’s failure to adequately supervise her daughter. “I ask what happened. How come she left the room without anybody seeing her? How come she walked all the way to the elevator without anybody seeing her?” Gertrude said. “They haven’t given me any answer at all. I trusted this hospital to take care of my daughter.”

Hospital officials have stated that the nurse terminations relate to unauthorized access of the patient’s medical records, a potential violation of the federal HIPAA privacy law. However, the nurses’ union, representing the affected staff, has accused the hospital of retaliating against employees who spoke to the media following the suicide. The union has filed a grievance, which could take considerable time to resolve.

Providence Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital said in a statement that it conducted an internal review after the incident and has since introduced new safety protocols, including suicide risk screening for all patients and enhanced procedures for locating missing patients.

A state Department of Health investigation into the circumstances surrounding Sarah Niyimbona’s death remains ongoing.

Jury Awards $300,000,000 to Former Children’s Hospital Patients Claiming Doctor Sexually Abused Them

A Virginia civil court awarded $300 million to three young women Friday after the women alleged a hospital’s former medical director abused them while they were patients, WTVR reported.

The case arose from a $930 million lawsuit which 46 former patients of Cumberland Hospital for Children and Adolescents in New Kent County filed against the hospital and its longtime — now former — medical director, Dr. Daniel Davidow, WTVR reported.

The Richmond court ruled — after about seven hours of deliberation and on the 15th day of the trial — each of the three women would receive $60 million in compensatory damages and $40 million in punitive damages, according to the outlet.

The three former patients and their attorney, Kevin Biniazan, broke down in tears after the ruling, Biniazan told WTVR. The three plaintiffs’ case is reportedly the first civil trial.

Cumberland’s parent company, Universal Health Services (UHS), and the UHS of Delaware (UHS-D) were co-defendants in the case, the outlet reported.

Children’s Hospital Gender Program Navigator Touts Uterine Transplants for Trans Men From ‘Live Donors’ (VIDEO)

A children’s hospital’s “gender program navigator” claimed in remarks last May that healthy women can donate their reproductive organs to biological men who identify as “transgender women.”

The presentation on “Fertility in the LGBTQIA+ community” was unearthed this week and circulated on Twitter. The speaker, Alicyn Simpson, who is transgender, is a “community navigator” for a youth gender program at the University of Pittsburgh Children’s Hospital, according to Fox News.

“One area that had not been looked at before in any serious way was, could the donors be live donors?” Simpson said while discussing a slide detailing a “uterine transplant.” Simpson noted that previous discussions about the topic involved “cadaver-based” donors.

“Live donation has been something the [transgender] community has talked about for decades, it was really thought about as magical thinking,” Simpson added. “This would be a live donation from a person who is assigned female at birth but identified as a transgender man. They say, ‘I have these parts. I don’t want them. You want them. You need them. So, what if I gave them to you?’”
