The New America: NO to Voluntary Christian Prayer in Schools. YES to Mandatory Muslim Prayer

“Separation of church and state.” There may be no reference to, inference of, insinuation of, or display of religion anywhere in any government operation or public school, even if there is no coercion to participate in any Christian event or prayer. That is enshrined in every clause of the Constitution.

That is essentially what the Left has been telling us for years, and those principles have been enforced to varying degrees in many lower courts and, intermittently, even by the Supreme Court.

Now we know it was all a lie. It was a political war on the Judeo-Christian Founding of this country, not some scrupulous enforcement of a mythical “constitutional” provision based on novel legal grounds. How do we know? The same court system that has nixed Christian prayer that is completely voluntary now has no problem with mandatory Muslim prayer embedded in required coursework in government-funded schools.

Caleigh Wood was a junior at a Charles County, Maryland, public school in 2014-2015 when she was forced to complete an assignment on “The Muslim World.” One worksheet contained a fill-in-the-blank statement requiring students to write, “There is no god but Allah and Muhammad is the messenger of Allah,” a portion of an Islamic declaration of faith known as the shahada. That is a direct violation to the tenets of other religions and Caleigh Wood’s Christian faith.

In comes the Fourth Circuit earlier this year in Wood v. Arnold and suddenly expresses reluctance to interfere with state practices and stated that this did not violate Wood’s First Amendment rights. “School authorities, not the courts, are charged with the responsibility of deciding what speech is appropriate in the classroom,” wrote Judge Barbara Milano Keenan for the three-judge panel in February. “Academic freedom would not long survive in an environment in which courts micromanage school curricula and parse singular statements made by teachers.”

On October 15, the Supreme Court formally denied Wood’s petition for an appeal.

Folks, I’ve never seen such hypocrisy from the courts in my life. The Fourth Circuit is the very court that ruled that a 100-year-old WWI memorial cross – an inanimate object that can’t harm a fly – somehow violates the First Amendment, yet coercing a student to participate in Muslim declarations of faith does not. This is the same court that, in 2017, barred Rowan County, North Carolina, from opening council sessions with a prayer, similar to what our federal Congress does every day.

Remember, nobody was compelled to participate in the Christian prayer like Ms. Wood was compelled to participate in a Muslim expression of faith. The Supreme Court allowed the Fourth Circuit ruling to stand, meaning that prayer is enjoined to this very day in Rowan County. As I noted in June when the Supreme Court reversed the Fourth Circuit on the Bladensburg Cross case, some of the GOP appointees indicated that a similar cross that is newer might be a violation of the First Amendment. That was the upshot of the opinion from Alito, joined by Roberts and Kavanaugh. Only Thomas and Gorsuch categorically rejected the notion that such non-coercive expressions violate the First Amendment. The others left wiggle room. It should also be noted that only Thomas and Gorsuch would have granted the appeal in the Rowan County case. For Roberts, Alito, and Kavanaugh, this is gross hypocrisy.

In reality the courts have the Establishment Clause and the Free Exercise Clause exactly backward. During the House floor debate over the First Amendment on August 20, 1789, James Madison explained the purpose of the Establishment Clause as follows:

Congress should not establish a religion, and enforce the legal observation of it by law, nor compel men to worship God in any manner contrary to their conscience.

The operative word here is “compel.” Yet the very same courts that believe it’s OK to compel students to participate in Muslim religious dogma have ruled that voluntary Christian prayer or the existence of monuments and symbols that are Christian or Jewish (such as the Ten Commandments) are a violation of the First Amendment.

In the Maryland case, it was the epitome of pro-Islam coercion. The shahada, which Ms. Wood was required to write as part of the history class assignment at La Plata High School, is the Islamic conversion creed, the declaration a person recites to convert to Islam and then prays and repeats during the Muslim call to prayer. Zuhdi Jasser, an enlightened Muslim scholar, was quoted by Fox News as saying, “They made this student recite the Islamic call of witness, a prayer which makes her a Muslim. That’s absurd.”

There is no record of anyone dissenting from the denial of the appeal at the Supreme Court last week. It doesn’t necessarily mean there aren’t some justices who disagree with the Fourth Circuit. We can only infer that there weren’t at least four justices willing to take up the appeal. (For more from the author of “The New America: No to Voluntary Christian Prayer in Schools. Report: Christianity Declining in America at ‘Rapid Pace’

Christianity in America is declining at a “rapid pace,” according to startling new analysis from The Pew Research Center.

The report found that the majority of Americans — 65 percent — still describe themselves as Christians, though the proportion has significantly fallen by 12 percentage points over the past decade.

At the same time, 26 percent of Americans now call themselves atheists, agnostics, or no religion in particular (a collective group known as the “nones”), up 9 percentage points since 2009. . .

It’s important to note that atheists, agnostics and unaffiliated Americans are generally lumped into the “nones” category, but the largest cohort under this umbrella are people who have simply said they are “nothing in particular.” . . .

While 84 percent of respondents in the Silent Generation (aged 74 to 91) and 76 percent of Baby Boomers (aged 55 to 71) are Christians, just 49 percent of Millennials (aged 23 to 38) agree. (Read more from “Report: Christianity Declining in America at ‘Rapid Pace'” HERE)

Shocking Report: ‘Persecution of Christians Worldwide Close to Genocide’

According to a shocking new report, Christians are “by far the most widely persecuted” members of a religion in the world. It also warns that this persecution is now nearing “genocide” levels.

The American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ) shared the report compiled by the Bishop of Truro the Right Reverend Philip Mounstephen. It states that violence and oppression against Christians is worsening as time goes by.

“Evidence shows not only the geographic spread of anti-Christian persecution, but also its increasing severity,” the report states. “In some regions, the level and nature of persecution is arguably coming close to meeting the international definition of genocide, according to that adopted by the UN.”

The evidence shows that Christianity is “by far the most widely persecuted religion.” This is extremely noteworthy because as many as one-third of the world’s population are suffering persecution because of their religious beliefs. Of those, an estimated 80 percent are Christians. (Read more from “Shocking Report: ‘Persecution of Christians Worldwide Close to Genocide'” HERE)

Skillet’s Lead Singer on Apostasy Among Young Christian Leaders

John Cooper, lead singer for the rock band Skillet, responded to the litany of recent apostasies among young Christian leaders. In a Facebook post titled ‘What in God’s Name is Happening in Christianity?’ put up on Tuesday, August 13, Cooper directly addressed the reasons given by Hillsong songwriter Marty Sampson for renouncing his Christian faith, before highlighting the need for Christians to stay grounded in a truth-driven faith over an emotion-driven one. . .

I am glad to see one of these ‘influencers’ come out in defense of the authority of Scripture and the importance of a robust faith that can outlast even the harshest of challenges. (Read more from “Skillet’s Lead Singer on Apostasy Among Young Christian Leaders” HERE)

Losing Faith: Notable Christian Songwriter Says He’s No Longer a Believer

. . .Marty Sampson — an Australian worship music songwriter known for his work with Hillsong — said, “All I know is what’s true to me right now, and Christianity just seems to me like another religion at this point.”

Sampson wrote in a since-deleted Instagram post that “I’m genuinely losing my faith…and it doesn’t bother me…like, what bothers me now is nothing…I am so happy now, so at peace with the world.. it’s crazy.” It also appears he’s cleared his Instagram account of all posts.

Sampson added, “How many preachers fall? Many. No one talks about it. How many miracles happen. Not many. No one talks about it. Why is the Bible full of contradictions? No one talks about it. How can God be love yet send 4 billion people to a place, all coz they don’t believe? No one talks about it. Christians can be the most [judgmental] people on the planet — they can also be some of the most beautiful and loving people…but it’s not for me. I am not in anymore.”

“Not the ‘I just believe it’ kind of truth. Science keeps piercing the truth of every religion. Lots of things help people change their lives, not just one version of God … Unfollow if you want, I’ve never been about living my life for others.”

Sampson concluded his post with the following: “Love and forgive absolutely. Be kind absolutely. Be generous and do good to others absolutely. Some things are good no matter what you believe. Let the rain fall, the sun will come up tomorrow.” (Read more from “Losing Faith: Notable Christian Songwriter Says He’s No Longer a Believer” HERE)

Ex-Pastor Popular Author Says He Can No Longer Call Himself a ‘Christian’

The author of the influential Christian book “I Kissed Dating Goodbye,” who recently announced that he and his wife are separating, now says he can no longer call himself a Christian by “all the measurements” he has for defining the term.

Former pastor Josh Harris, who has previously denounced aspects of his popular courtship series, made the declaration in an Instagram post on Saturday featuring a photo of himself looking out at Joffre Lakes Provincial Park. In the post, Harris tells his followers that his earlier announcement about the decision to get a divorce left out a key piece of information: he no longer identifies as a Christian. The statement also includes an apology to members of the LGBT community.

“My heart is full of gratitude. I wish you could see all the messages people sent me after the announcement of my divorce. They are expressions of love though they are saddened or even strongly disapprove of the decision,” Harris begins. “I am learning that no group has the market cornered on grace. This week I’ve received grace from Christians, atheists, evangelicals, exvangelicals, straight people, LGBTQ people, and everyone in-between. Of course there have also been strong words of rebuke from religious people. While not always pleasant, I know they are seeking to love me. (There have also been spiteful, hateful comments that angered and hurt me.)⁣⁣”

Harris then arrives at his big reveal about having “deconstructed” his faith. “The information that was left out of our announcement is that I have undergone a massive shift in regard to my faith in Jesus,” he explains. “The popular phrase for this is ‘deconstruction,’ the biblical phrase is ‘falling away.’ By all the measurements that I have for defining a Christian, I am not a Christian. Many people tell me that there is a different way to practice faith and I want to remain open to this, but I’m not there now.⁣⁣” (Read more from “Ex-Pastor Popular Author Says He Can No Longer Call Himself a ‘Christian’” HERE)

Dems Remove ‘So Help Me God’ from Oaths

The Democrats have continued their mission to root God out of the public square in the name of secularism by removing “so help me God” from the U.S. House of Representatives oath witnesses must take when testifying before several of the congressional committees, all of which are currently under Democratic control.

According to LifeSiteNews, the changes to the oaths have been slowly implemented ever since House Democrats announced the new policy in January, which immediately faced backlash.

“In January, a draft of a rules package from the Natural Resource Committee was leaked to the public showing ‘so help me God’ marked for deletion, replaced with the phrase ‘under penalty of law,'” reports the outlet.

Even Snopes admitted at the time that Democrats indeed had tried to take God out of the oaths. Here’s what the original document stated before Democrats retracted it:

(e) Oaths. — The Chairman of the Committee, the Chairmen of the Subcommittees or any Member designated by the Chairman may administer oaths to any witness before the Committee. All witnesses appearing in hearings may be administered the following oath by the Chairman or his designee prior to receiving the testimony: ‘Do you solemnly swear or affirm that the testimony that you are about to give is the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, so help you God?’

Today’s Left Now Openly Aims to Make Christians Second-Class Citizens

The left wants to penalize Christians for their faith. The most recent example is the freakout over the vice president’s wife, Karen Pence, teaching part-time at a Christian school that holds students and staff to traditional Christian standards of doctrine and conduct, including sexual conduct.

These requirements are not exceptional among Christian schools (and those of other religions often have similar restrictions), but they have been treated as the vilest bigotry, deserving censure and punishment. CNN’s John King even suggested that teaching at this school should mean forfeiting Pence’s government-provided security.

As a practical pastoral matter, the school is almost certainly more focused on fornication and adultery than on denouncing sodomy. But the media is obsessed over the aspects of traditional Christian sexual ethics that relate to LGBT identity and actions.

The Washington Post, for example, flatly asserts that Pence has been hired by an “anti-LGBT Christian school” that “seeks to exclude homosexual and transgender students and staff members”—as an aside, note how LGBT ideology sexualizes children and defines them by their still-developing sense of sexuality—but that is not how traditional Christians view these matters. . .

The Christian perspective distinguishes between, on one hand, same-sex attraction or gender dysphoria as psychological states experienced by individuals, and, on the other, behavior, identity, and ideology. Thus, the reality of same-sex attraction is acknowledged, but considered a temptation to be resisted, not an identity to be embraced. Gender dysphoria, like other sorts of dysphoria, is viewed as an affliction that should be treated with compassion in accord with biological reality, rather than a metaphysical truth to which physical bodies must be molded. Two Female Christian Artists Could Be JAILED for Not Creating Art for Same-Sex Weddings

Two female Christian artists in Arizona who refuse to make custom-art for same sex weddings could actually be jailed for sticking to their religious beliefs.

Joanna Duka and Breanna Koski , who own Brush & Nib Studio, make custom artwork using painting, calligraphy and handlettering. They filed suit against the city of Phoenix, as a Phoenix city ordinance threatens them with up to six months and/or a fine of $2,500 each day they refuse to make the artwork. First the women filed in state court to overturn the ordinance, but lost in a court of appeals, prompting them to appeal to the state’s Supreme Court, which said on November 20 it would hear the case. . .

The petition added, “Their Christian beliefs forbid them from creating ‘custom artwork that conveys messages condoning, supporting, or participating in activities or ideas that violate their religious beliefs. For example, they cannot create artwork expressing messages that ‘contradict biblical truth, demean others, endorse racism, [or] incite violence.’”

ADF senior counsel Jonathan Scruggs stated at the time the state Supreme Court agreed to hear the case, “The government must allow artists to make their own decisions about which messages they will promote. Joanna and Breanna are happy to design custom art for anyone; they simply object to being forced to pour their heart, soul, imagination, and talent into creating messages that violate their conscience.” . . .

The brief filed by Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich and other state attorneys general states, “A government simply cannot force a citizen to engage in or endorse expression. … [Phoenix] must not be allowed to force artists to create customized expressions contrary to their moral, religious, or political beliefs, even if such work is paid for by the one requesting it.” (Read more from “Two Female Christian Artists Could Be JAILED for Not Creating Art for Same-Sex Weddings” HERE)

Terrifying: American Witchcraft Rises as Christianity Declines

By Daily Wire. . .According to The Telegraph, the number of Americans who identify as witches now outpace the total number of Presbyterians – 1.5 million.

“As Christianity declines across the country, paganism has swung to the mainstream, with witchcraft paraphernalia for sale on every high street and practices normalized across popular culture,” reports the outlet.

Witchcraft has become especially popular during the Trump administration. Following the president’s victory over Hillary Clinton in 2016, witches gathered to cast a collective binding spell against him. They repeated this following the confirmation of Justice Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court.

According to Vox, “many quasi-religious rituals” were making the rounds in the halls of social media to “help self-identified witches process trauma, anger, and grief” in the wake of Kavanaugh’s confirmation to the Supreme Court. One popular spell is the “Gratitude Spell,” authored by Instagram user @celestightfor the pagan political organization WitchTheVote that focuses on feminist causes.

“In this open-ended spell, participants might choose to make a sigil — a sacred sign — on the paper, or vary their tribute to Ford in accordance with their own personal experiences and history,” reports Vox. “They might, if they so choose, send their note to Ford directly.” (Read more from “Terrifying: American Witchcraft Rises as Christianity Declines” HERE)

Why Millennials Are Ditching Religion for Witchcraft and Astrology

By Market Watch. When Coco Layne, a Brooklyn-based producer, meets someone new these days, the first question that comes up in conversation isn’t “Where do you live?” or “What do you do?” but “What’s your sign?”

“So many millennials read their horoscopes every day and believe them,” Layne, who is involved in a number of nonreligious spiritual practices, said. “It is a good reference point to identify and place people in the world.”

Interest in spirituality has been booming in recent years while interest in religion plummets, especially among millennials. The majority of Americans now believe it is not necessary to believe in God to have good morals, a study from Pew Research Center found. The percentage of people between the ages of 18 and 29 who “never doubt existence of God” fell from 81% in 2007 to 67% in 2012.

Meanwhile, more than half of young adults in the U.S. believe astrology is a science. compared to less than 8% of the Chinese public. The psychic services industry — which includes astrology, aura reading, mediumship, tarot-card reading and palmistry, among other metaphysical services — grew 2% between 2011 and 2016. It is now worth $2 billion annually, according to industry analysis firm IBIS World. (Read more from “Why Millennials Are Ditching Religion for Witchcraft and Astrology” HERE)
