Schumer Won’t Rule Out Another Government Shutdown

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer declined Tuesday to rule out triggering another government shutdown as Democrats press Republicans to extend enhanced Affordable Care Act subsidies.

President Donald Trump ended the longest government shutdown in U.S. history on Nov. 12 by signing a spending package that funded the government through the end of January and restored pay to affected federal workers. During an exchange with reporters, Schumer repeatedly declined to give a direct answer when reporters asked whether Democrats would again risk a government shutdown by tying federal funding to their health care demands ahead of the Jan. 30 deadline.

“Mr. Chairman, you mentioned January 1. There is also a January 30 deadline to fund the government. Do you have any expectation that Democrats might tie back to ACA like you did last time to try to get a result?” one reporter asked.

“Look, just as I said, it’s on the Republicans that we haven’t had health care done after January 1. It’s very, very hard to put it back in the bottom,” Schumer said.

When asked explicitly whether Democrats would vote to shut down the government on Jan. 30 if they fail to secure an extension, Schumer again avoided a clear commitment. (Read more from “Schumer Won’t Rule Out Another Government Shutdown” HERE)

Chuck Schumer Lays Groundwork For Government Shutdown

Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer is signaling he could plunge the country into a partial government shutdown if Republicans move forward with rescinding just a fraction of a percent of government spending.

The Senate is expected to vote on a request from the White House to claw back $1.1 billion in public broadcasting funding and $8.3 billion in foreign aid next week. Schumer has threatened that Democrats will reject a government funding deal for the upcoming fiscal year if Republicans pass President Donald Trump’s $9.4 billion rescission package, which could trigger a partial government shutdown at the end of September.

“Ask the Republicans why they are heading on this path,” Schumer said at a Senate Democratic leadership press conference Wednesday in response to a question citing his previous warnings about the alleged harmful effects of letting government funding lapse. “We are doing everything we can to keep the bipartisan appropriations process going. And they’re undermining it with rescissions, with pocket rescissions, with impoundment and every other way.”

Schumer’s implicit shutdown threat is a noticeable departure from his decision to avert a lapse in government funding in March by supplying the votes to pass a Trump-backed stopgap spending bill. The Democratic leader’s decision to avoid a government shutdown earlier in the year infuriated the party’s base, leading Schumer to postpone a scheduled book tour. Elected Democrats across the country criticized his leadership.

Senate Majority Leader John Thune criticized Schumer’s recent remarks appearing to use the rescissions package as leverage in the anticipated government funding showdown later this year. Schumer wrote a “Dear Colleague” letter Tuesday warning of “consequences that will be felt far beyond the halls of power” if Republicans claw back funding for public broadcasting and foreign aid. Schumer Bizarrely Claims DOGE May Have Been Partly to Blame for Mexican Ship’s Deadly Brooklyn Bridge Mishap

. . .Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) on Sunday bizarrely suggested that DOGE cuts to the US Coast Guard could have been partly to blame for a Mexican tall ship’s deadly collision with the Brooklyn Bridge.

“We know there has been meddling by the Trump administration into USCG staffing, and we need to know how this might have impacted the events of last night — from a command, communication and local coordination level,” the embattled Dem said in a press release.

“There are indications that this service [Vehicle Traffic System] may not be fully or adequately functional in light of a hiring freeze,” he said — referring to what he described as the Coast Guard’s “FAA-like traffic control operation.”

“If this were the case, the Brooklyn Bridge accident would be a national harbinger, demanding immediate attention,” the pol said.

But there were no reports of any other ship being involved in any way in Saturday’s tragedy.

Sources have said the Mexican sailing ship Cuauhtemoc struck the bridge because a mechanical failure shut down its steering, leaving it at the mercy of East River currents that pulled the vessel into the historic bridge, killing two navy cadets and injuring at least 17 others. Chuck Schumer Does Not Rule Out Impeaching Trump If Dems Take Back Control

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer did not rule out impeaching President Donald Trump if the Democrats regain control of the House and Senate, during a Sunday interview.

During the interview with CNN’s Dana Bash, Schumer stated that Trump is “violating [the] rule of law” on a daily basis, though it is too soon to say whether the Democrats will file articles of impeachment against the president. Democratic Georgia Sen. Jon Ossoff had said during a Friday town hall that Trump has committed several offenses that exceed “any prior standard for impeachment.”

“Do you agree with [Ossoff], would that be a priority if Democrats were to take back Congress?” Bash asked.

“Well look, right now, President Trump is violating the rule of the law in every way,” Schumer said. “And we’re fighting him every single day in every way. And our goal is to show the American people, over and over again, whether it’s the economy, whether it’s tariffs, whether it’s Russia and overseas and whether it’s rule of law, how bad he is. Two years is too far away to predict, our job is day to day to day, to show who Trump is, what he is doing and it’s having an effect … Look, it’s too far away to even judge.”

Democrats have accused Trump of violating the rule of law by defying federal court orders related to deporting illegal immigrant gang members. The administration has maintained that they did not defy a March 15 order put in place by U.S. District Judge James Boasberg, who ordered that a plane transporting over 200 members of Tren de Agua be returned to the U.S. (Read more from “Chuck Schumer Does Not Rule Out Impeaching Trump If Dems Take Back Control” HERE)

Elon Musk ‘Starting to Think’ Chuck Schumer Is Getting Rich Through Government Fraud

Elon Musk, President Donald Trump’s leader of DOGE, is now going to war with Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, openly speculating the New York Democrat could be the recipient of “a piece of the action” through government fraud.

It started Monday evening, as Schumer launched an online attack in which he alleged the president “has unleashed chaos” on the nation:

Trump has unleashed chaos on America

—His tariffs hit families with largest tax hike in more than 50 years
—DOGE is sabotaging Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid
—The market is having its worst 3 days since COVID

And Congressional Republicans are going along with it all so they can cut taxes for billionaires.

Early Tuesday, Musk responded by saying: “Chuck, I’m starting to think you’re getting a piece of the action with the government fraud. But no, that couldn’t possibly be the reason, could it? …”

Schumer Caves In Shutdown Showdown

On Thursday, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) declared that he will not vote against moving forward with a Republican-backed stopgap bill to avert a partial government shutdown at the end of the week.

The announcement, in which Schumer criticized President Donald Trump and the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) effort led by Elon Musk, marked an abrupt turnaround. Just one day ago, the top Senate Democrat insisted the Republican majority did not have enough votes for the House-passed continuing resolution to clear a key procedural hurdle.

“While the CR bill is very bad, the potential for a shutdown has consequences for America that are much, much worse. … I believe allowing Donald Trump to take even much more power via a government shutdown is a far worse option,” Schumer said in remarks on the Senate floor.

He added later: “I believe it is my job to make the best choice for the country, to minimize the harms to the American people. Therefore, I will vote to keep the government open and not shut it down.” (Read more from “Schumer Caves In Shutdown Showdown” HERE)

Government Shutdown Likely After Schumer Says Senate Dems Will Block GOP Funding Bill

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer announced Wednesday that most Democrats in the upper chamber will not support a House Republican-passed bill to fund the federal government through the end of September, all but ensuring a partial shutdown beginning at 11:59 p.m. Friday.

“Funding the government should be a bipartisan effort, but Republicans chose a partisan path, drafting their [continuing resolution] without any input — any input — from congressional Democrats,” Schumer (D-NY) said on the Senate floor Wednesday.

“Because of that, Republicans do not have the votes in the Senate to invoke cloture on the House CR. Our caucus is unified on a clean [CR through April 11] that will keep the government open and give Congress time to negotiate bipartisan legislation that can pass.”

With Republicans holding a 53-47 advantage in the Senate, and legislation needing 60 votes to overcome a filibuster, at least seven Democrats would need to support the spending bill, which passed the House 217-213 Tuesday night.

Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) has also opposed the measure, so the GOP will need eight Democratic defections if there is full attendance in the chamber. (Read more from “Government Shutdown Likely After Schumer Says Senate Dems Will Block GOP Funding Bill” HERE)

Schumer: Mayorkas Impeachment Will Be Resolved ‘Quickly as Possible’ (VIDEO)

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) says the articles of impeachment against Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas are “absurd” and that he will “resolve this as quickly as possible.”

As reports circulate that Schumer is readying a motion to dismiss articles of impeachment against Mayorkas, the majority leader suggested to the media on Tuesday that he is looking to “resolve” the matter quickly.

“We’re going to try and resolve this issue as quickly as possible,” Schumer said. “Impeachment should never be used to settle policy disagreements.”

“We’re going to try to resolve this as quickly as possible. As I’ve said in the past, it’s absurd, and there are no charges in the House complaint that rise to the level of impeachment,” Schumer said when asked again. “… we’re going to move forward and resolve this as quickly as possible.”

Schumer’s Intimidation: U.S. Troops May Be Deployed to Eastern Europe Without $60 Billion Border Bill (VIDEO)

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) has issued a stark warning that U.S. troops could be sent to eastern Europe within a few years if the Senate fails to pass a crucial border bill providing $60 billion in aid to Ukraine. Schumer made this warning during an appearance on MSNBC on Monday.

Schumer’s argument revolves around the belief that if the U.S. does not support Ukraine with aid, Russian President Vladimir Putin could potentially expand his influence, leading to a scenario where American forces might find themselves engaged in conflict in eastern Europe, particularly in a NATO ally. This is a common narrative the Biden administration utilizes to justify funding the Ukrainian war, despite millions of lost U.S. funds and weapons.

President Joe Biden and Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin had previously made similar arguments, warning that without additional aid, U.S. troops could end up fighting Russian forces if Putin were to attack a NATO ally. Schumer echoed these concerns, urging the Senate to pass the border bill to provide even more taxpayer assistance to Ukraine.

The proposed legislation not only allocates $60 billion in aid to Ukraine but also includes $14 billion for Israel. Schumer argued that if the bill fails to pass, the conflict between Israel and Hamas would persist. However, the proposed border bill only earmarks $20 billion for border-related issues, a fraction of the amount designated for Ukraine, further highlighting Biden’s “American’s Last” narrative.

Social Media Erupts After Chuck Schumer Calls For Zyn Crackdown

Government officials have taken to Twitter to express their frustration with Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer for his call for a federal crackdown on Zyn.

Chuck Schumer called for an investigation into the tobacco product Zyn on Sunday after claiming the product is being marketed toward teens. Many congressmen and women, including Marjorie Taylor Greene and Thom Tillis, have posted on Twitter calling out Schumer for his stance on Zyn.

Various government officials have alleged that Schumer has more concern with the tobacco product than securing the southern border and fentanyl harming teens.
