Senator Sullivan Slams Biden for ‘Despicable’ Action He Took in Alaska

Sen. Dan Sullivan (R-AK) slammed President Joe Biden over the weekend for taking action to restrict energy exploration and mining in his state while not enforcing sanctions against some of America’s top adversaries.

Sullivan made the remarks during a Sunday CBS News interview with Margaret Brennan on “Face the Nation.”

“I know you’re also passionate about this and what the Biden administration just announced about your state of Alaska,” Brennan said. “He has limited oil and gas drilling in parts in the National Petroleum Reserve to protect polar bears and other things. And then he also blocked a road crucial to operating a copper and zinc mine.”

“You said this is ‘suicidal’ and ‘lawless,’” Brennan noted. “Those are strong words.”

Sullivan responded: “Well, it’s lawless. He doesn’t have the authority to do it. And I could go into all the laws that support me on that. It’s, as I say, national security suicide. Look, this president won’t sanction the Iranian oil and gas regime. You may have seen Senator Blumenthal and I put a – sent a letter to the president on Friday, saying you need to do that.” (Read more from “Senator Sullivan Slams Biden for ‘Despicable’ Action He Took in Alaska” HERE)

America Last: 12 Senate Republicans, Including Murkowski and Sullivan, Vote to Send Ukraine Another $60B After Vowing to Put U.S. Border First

This week, 17 Senate Republicans joined Democrats to approve sending Ukraine another $60 billion. Twelve of those Republicans previously suggested they would not help send Ukraine any more American taxpayer money until the United States’s border was secure from illegal immigration.

On Thursday, Sens. Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV), Bill Cassidy (R-LA), Susan Collins (R-ME), John Cornyn (R-TX), Joni Ernst (R-IA), Chuck Grassley (R-IA), John Kennedy (R-LA), Mitch McConnell (R-KY), Jerry Moran (R-KS), Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), Mitt Romney (R-UT), Mike Rounds (R-SD), Dan Sullivan (R-AK), John Thune (R-SD), Thom Tillis (R-NC), Roger Wicker (R-MS), and Todd Young (R-IN) joined every Senate Democrat excluding Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) to send billions more in taxpayer dollars to Ukraine.

The money, if approved by the House, will fund weapons and military training, among other things, for Ukraine in its war with Russia.

Twelve of those Republicans who voted for the Ukraine funding, coupled with $14.1 billion for Israel in its war with Hamas, previously suggested to the media that they would not support more funding for Ukraine until America’s own southern border was secure.”So in order for our national security interests to be served, we must have a four-prong approach here. Israel, the border, Ukraine, and Taiwan,” Capito said in December 2023, for example, while Cassidy said, “We got to support our allies, but we got to secure our own border first and the Biden administration has not done so” the same month.

Similarly, in December 2023, Ernst said, ”The issue is not Ukraine, and it’s not President Zelensky. It’s our own national security at our southern border” and Collins called reforms at the southern border an “absolutely essential part” of any funding package that includes more money for Ukraine. Sen. Sullivan Won’t Reveal Stance on Pro-Abortion Equality Act That Writes Transgenderism Into Civil Rights Law

By AlaskaWatchman.com

Sen. Dan Sullivan is emailing a boilerplate response to those who are concerned about how he might vote on the Equality Act – a bill that would destroy women-only sports, trample religious freedoms and threaten pro-life laws.

Sullivan’s standardized letter begins by thanking constituents for contacting him regarding the Equality Act.

“I appreciate your thoughts on this issue and welcome the opportunity to respond,” he states. He then notes that the Equality Act would amend the Civil Rights Act of 1964 to include sexual orientation and gender identity among protected legal classes.

Sullivan’s letter does not go into any detail about the Equality Act and makes no mention of the fact that the legislation would mark the end of female-only sports by allowing males who identify as females to compete with women. His letter also ignores threats to both religious liberties and pro-life laws, which numerous critics of the Equality Act have raised.

The Equality Act would require businesses to officially recognize gender identities and sexual orientations and would ban opposite-sex locker rooms and restrooms.

Instead, Sullivan takes time to praise the June 15, 2020, Supreme Court ruling in Bostock v. Clayton County in which the high court redefined the meaning of biological sex for the purposes of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Rather than affirm the plain meaning of sex (males and females) the court ruled that the term can now refer to sexual orientation or transgender status.

“The principle this decision focused on is one I have long agreed with – that Americans shouldn’t be able to be fired from a job simply because of their religion, race, or sexual orientation,” Sullivan states. “I am committed to the principle of non-discrimination and enforcement of laws providing equality for all Americans.”

If the Equality Act does pass out of the Senate and President Biden signs it into law – as he has promised to do – it would mandate that Americans accommodate and facilitate behavior and events associated with the LGBTQ movement in private establishments, business, health care, entertainment and many other areas. Furthermore, the Equality Act would require businesses with more than 15 employees to affirm and officially recognize gender identities and sexual orientations and would ban opposite-sex locker rooms and restrooms.

Sullivan concludes his standardized letter by acknowledging that the Senate may soon consider the measure.

“I will keep your thoughts in mind should H.R. 5 (Equality Act) reach the Senate floor for a vote,” he writes.

Sullivan regularly touted his pro-life credentials on the campaign trail last year, but both pro-abortion and pro-life advocates note that the language of the Equality Act could easily be used to expand abortion across the nation. It would amend the Civil Rights Act by negating any language that currently allows Congress to withhold federal funding for abortions. The bill could also be used to force healthcare professionals to facilitate abortion on demand, even against their conscience.

Last month, the Equality Act narrowly passed in the House where Rep. Don Young was one of just two representative who refused to vote either way on the measure.

The Watchman has asked Sullivan to clarify his position on the Equality Act. So far, the only response has been to email his boilerplate letter.

Corrupt Lisa Murkowski, Dan Sullivan Refuse to Denounce Trump Impeachment; WH Expects ‘At Least Four Republicans’ in Senate to Join Democrats’ Call for Impeachment Witnesses; Senate Impeachment Trial Rules: No Phones and No Talking for Senators

White House Reportedly Expects ‘at Least Four Republicans’ in Senate to Join Democrats’ Call for Impeachment Witnesses

By Mediate. The White House reportedly expects “at least four Republicans,” and “likely more,” to join Democrat calls for witnesses in the Senate impeachment of President Donald Trump.

According to CBS News, which cited unnamed senior “White House officials,” the White House “increasingly believe that at least four Republicans, and likely more, will vote to call witnesses.”

Sen. Mitt Romney (R-UT), Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME), and Sen. Cory Gardner (R-CO) are among those reportedly expected to vote for the calling of witnesses, and the White House also allegedly has its eyes on “wild card” Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) and “institutionalist” Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-TN). Murkowski: Decision on Impeachment Witnesses Should Wait Until After Start of Trial

By The Hill. Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) said on Monday that she supports delaying a decision on which, if any, witnesses should testify until after the start of President Trump’s impeachment trial.

With that decision Murkowski aligns herself with the process advocated by Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and bolsters the chances that Republicans — absent an 11th hour deal with Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) — will be able to force through their own impeachment rules.

“I think we need to do what they did the last time they did this … and that was to go through a first phase, and then they reassessed after that,” Murkowski told reporters after leaving McConnell’s office.

McConnell has urged the Senate to pass two resolutions. One at the outset would deal only with the rules for the impeachment trial, including things like how long both sides would get to present their opening arguments. Under McConnell’s plan a second resolution, passed after both sides present their case, would tackle what witnesses are called to testify. Senate Impeachment Trial Rules: No Phones and No Talking for Senators

By CNN. Republican Sen. Lisa Murkowski of Alaska saluted Senate rules announced Wednesday for the impeachment trial that are designed to ensure senators are not distracted and can pay close attention to the proceedings.

The rules, which might seem more designed for a seventh-grade classroom instead of the United States Senate, include a ban on smart phones and electronics, a requirement senators sit at their desks and not talk to their neighbors, and not read any materials not directly associated with the ongoing testimony.

“Paying attention is significant and important and I’m glad that we can put these devises down,” Murkowski said. (Read more from “Senate Impeachment Trial Rules: No Phones and No Talking for Senators” HERE)

Is Alaska’s Dan Sullivan – the Oligarchs’ Golden Boy – the Dumbest U.S. Senator in D.C.?

There were many interesting moments in Mark Zuckerberg’s testimony before Congress – starting with the gazillionaire child-man’s decision to follow Larry Kudlow’s advice and eschew his usual garb for a suit and tie. . .

[But my] favorite exchange yesterday came when Senator Dan Sullivan took the microphone. He’s a Republican from Alaska, but he could as easily have been a Democrat of a certain disposition. He observed that Mr Zuckerberg had created his spectacularly lucrative global behemoth in his college dorm room at the age of nineteen. And then he said: “Facebook is an ‘Only in America’ story, right?”

The witness looked befuddled – as I do in, say, Marseille, when a bit of local vernacular runs up against the limits of my conversational French.

So Senator Sullivan attempted to clarify what he meant. “You couldn’t do this in China, right?”

Zuckerberg considered the matter, sincerely. “Well, Senator,” he said, “there are some very strong Chinese Internet companies.”

“Come on, I’m trying to help you,” growled the plain-spoken Sullivan, throwing in the towel. “Gimme a break, you’re in front of a bunch of senators: the answer is yes.” The audience laughed. But the child-man seemed genuinely nonplussed. (Read more from “Is Alaska’s Dan Sullivan – the Oligarch’s Golden Boy – the Dumbest U.S. Senator in D.C.?” HERE)

Mark Begich Concedes to Dan Sullivan in Alaska Senate Race

Democratic Sen. Mark Begich conceded his re-election race on Monday to Republican Dan Sullivan, bringing a delayed conclusion to the Alaska Senate race nearly two weeks after Election Day and almost one week after the Associated Press called the race for Sullivan.

Begich, a first-term U.S. senator and former Anchorage mayor, said he spoke with Sullivan on Monday and “encouraged him to adopt a bipartisan resolve in the Senate.

“Alaska is ill-served by the partisan fights that don’t reflect our state’s unique needs and priorities,” Begich said in a statement.

Alaska Sen. Mark Begich Retracts Controversial Ad

Democratic U.S. Sen. Mark Begich is retracting a television ad that an Alaska family said was exploiting a tragedy for political purposes, according to KTVA in Anchorage.

The controversy began Friday when Begich published a TV spot which blamed his opponent, former state attorney general Dan Sullivan, for reducing the sentence of Jerry Active, a 25-year-old man accused of murdering an Anchorage couple and sexually assaulting their 2-year-old granddaughter on May 25, 2013.

In a rebuttal ad, Sullivan vehemently denied Begich’s accusation, pointing out that he was not attorney general in Jan. 2009 when Active committed a series of crimes for which he should have been sentenced to at least eight years in prison.

Instead, a state database search failed to find that Active had a previous felony which would have triggered the minimum sentence.

The Begich-Sullivan volley angered the victims’ family. Bryon Collins, the family’s attorney, requested that both campaigns pull their ads and remove any references to the case. He said that the family feared that media spotlight on the case could potentially taint a jury pool when Active eventually goes to trial.

Attorney Slams Begich Campaign For Refusing To Take Down ‘Offensive’ Ad

An attorney for the family of an Alaska couple murdered last year sent a scathing letter to U.S. Sen. Mark Begich claiming that his political ad using the couple’s case to attack Republican challenger Dan Sullivan is “inciting” the family and “tearing [it] apart.”

Bryon Collins, the family attorney, sent the letter, titled “Second Demand To Take Down All Case References And Ads,” to Begich on Monday.

“The family directly and without question has told your campaign they want no part of this,” Collins writes in the letter, obtained by The Daily Caller.

Collins was referring to an ad first aired by Begich’s campaign on Friday.

It refers to the case of Jerry Active, now 25, who allegedly murdered Touch Chea and Sorn Sreap, two elderly Cambodian-Americans, in Anchorage on May 25, 2013. Active is also accused of sexually assaulting their 2-year-old granddaughter.

Alaska Senate Challenger Dan Sullivan Accuses Mark Begich Of Lying In Ad

Republican Alaska U.S. senate challenger Dan Sullivan is accusing Democratic incumbent Mark Begich of lying in a television ad blaming Sullivan for the early prison release of a man accused of murdering two elderly people and sexually assaulting their young granddaughter.

The case involves Jerry Active, 25, who was arrested for the May 25, 2013 murder of a couple in Anchorage and of sexually assaulting their 2-year-old granddaughter.

The Begich campaign is using Active’s heinous act to attack Sullivan for being soft on crime, though Sullivan completely disputes the claim and says that Begich is exploiting the case for political gain.

“I don’t know how long Dan Sullivan lived in Alaska, but I know what he did as attorney general,” said retired Anchorage police officer Bob Glen in the ad, approved by Begich and released ahead of Labor Day weekend.

“He let a lot of sex offenders get off with light sentences. One of them got out of prison and is now charged with breaking into that apartment building, murdering a senior couple and sexually assaulting their two year old granddaughter.”

Establishment Narrative Dies In Republican Primary For Alaska US Senate Seat

joe-miller-roe-vs-wade-is-threat-1140x641Throughout the primary, pollsters and pundits laughed off Joe Miller’s candidacy as a Quixote run. By summer 2014, the polls showed him 25 points behind his Establishment opponents. And almost all of the high profile national Tea Party and conservative groups pushing insurgent challengers around the country left him for dead, offering no help. Several of the local conservative activist groups maintained a posture of neutrality, acting as virtual subsidiaries of the Republican Party.

________________________________________________________________________

There are still more than 27,000 votes to be counted in the Alaska Republican Primary for United States Senate. More than likely, the Establishment candidate, former Attorney General Dan Sullivan, will be the Republican nominee going forward.

The Establishment has claimed victory, and the media has all but declared the reform movement dead. But is that really the take-away? Let’s look at some facts.

Throughout the primary, pollsters and pundits laughed off Joe Miller’s candidacy as a Quixote run.

The Club for Growth, usually a reliable ally of movement conservatives, linked arms with Karl Rove’s American Crossroads, the US Chamber of Commerce, Paul Singer’s Friends for an American Majority, the National Republican Senatorial Committee, and other Establishment Republicans in support of their golden boy, Dan Sullivan.

Further, other Washington conservatives like Erick Erickson at RedState.com and Phyllis Schlafly at Eagle Forum jumped on the bandwagon of the supposedly “more electable” Lt. Governor Mead Treadwell, who finished a distant third.

What makes this spectacle even more outrageous is that Mead Treadwell has never been a movement conservative, though he did adopt a platform redolent with conservative rhetoric.

Dan Sullivan spent about four million dollars during the primary, and his SuperPACs spent millions more.

Joe Miller, essentially going it alone, spent less than $400K, while Mead Treadwell’s million-dollar plus conservative act cut a significant swath out of his base. Why? Because conservatives didn’t unite behind Miller. Yet, the Alaska Republican primary was still winnable.

The entry of Sarah Palin, Mike Huckabee, and James Dobson gave Miller a significant boost. But it was just too late in the game to be decisive. Miller had run out of money and couldn’t close the gap.

The takeaway is something very different than the media and the beltway consultant class would have you believe. The truth is, 60% of Republicans weren’t swayed by the multimillion-dollar Establishment media blitz put on by Sullivan, Rove, and the US Chamber of Commerce.

Nor were they particularly enamored with Sullivan’s faux conservative schtick, a rhetorical tactic adopted by all the high-profile Establishment candidates around the country this cycle. If rhetoric counts, the Tea Party has already won.

The Alaska Republican primary was always going to come down to how the electorate was divided. If there was a clearly defined conservative up against two moderates, the conservative would win. On the other hand, if it was two conservatives dividing the base, over against one moderate, the moderate would win.

The reticence of the conservative movement to coalesce behind Miller cost us a seat to the Establishment. And given Sullivan’s rather weak position both with conservatives and libertarian independents, it could end in the re-election of Democrat Mark Begich. Surely Harry Reid and Barack Obama are applauding in the shadows.

But the demise of the reform movement is greatly exaggerated. It is time for conservatives to stop being cowed by pragmatic arguments and partisan politics. We must unite behind conservative candidates and ideas. And for the love of all that’s good, stop allowing phony polls to drive the agenda. Let’s put conservative unity above Republican unity. If we do, the future is ours.

The outcome in Alaska should lay the official establishment media narrative to rest. Conservatives didn’t lose; they surrendered.

If the right lessons are taken from this temporary setback, 2016 can be a banner year for conservatives.

Joe Miller Congratulates Dan Sullivan

Joe Miller called to congratulate fellow U.S. Senate candidate Dan Sullivan on a race well run.

Miller said, “While there are still over 20,000 absentee ballots to be counted and several major precincts yet to report, it seems unlikely we will be able to close the 7000 vote gap, given the current trends. I have called and congratulated Dan Sullivan for running a strong campaign.”

Miller added, “I want to thank our volunteers for their incredible effort and those who supported our campaign throughout the great state of Alaska. The pundits said our grassroots campaign (being outspent 10 to 1) did not stand a chance, but I think ‘We the People’ surprised more than a few tonight. I am grateful to God to live in such a wonderful state and country. As Ronald Reagan reminded us, ‘Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction,’ so I will continue to do my part to ensure it is alive and well and passed on to the next generation of Americans.”
