Trump Administration Sues Yale Over Use of Race in Admissions

The Trump administration sued Yale University on Thursday, accusing the school of violating federal civil rights law by discriminating against applicants based on their race.

The Justice Department lawsuit is the most drastic action the Trump administration has taken to combat the use of race in university admissions, a practice that has repeatedly been upheld by the Supreme Court. But race-based affirmative action is considered vulnerable under the conservative majority on the high court, which would expand further if the Senate confirms President Donald Trump’s nominee, Amy Coney Barrett.

. . .The Justice Department claims in its complaint that Yale’s admissions process has for decades run afoul of federal civil rights laws that outlaw discrimination on the basis of race.

The lawsuit, filed in federal court in Connecticut, says Yale’s admissions process relies on an “oversized, standardless, intentional use of race” that favors Black and Hispanic applicants at the expense of their Asian and white counterparts. Trump Campaign’s Request to Hold In-Person Debate Denied

The next presidential debate will remain a virtual format, casting doubt on whether or not the debate between President Trump and former Vice President Joe Biden will even occur.

Frank Fahrenkopf, the co-chairman of the Commission on Presidential Debates, said on Thursday that the commission would not reverse its decision to hold the debate scheduled for Oct. 15 in a virtual format. Just earlier, Trump campaign manager Bill Stepien urged the debate commission to allow the event to be in person.

“President Trump’s physician, Dr. Sean Conley, says the President will be medically cleared for ‘safe return to public engagements’ by Saturday, five full days before the originally scheduled debate in Miami on October 15. There is therefore no medical reason why the Commission on Presidential Debates should shift the debate to a virtual setting, postpone it, or otherwise alter it in any way,” Stepien said in a statement. . .

The commission’s move to make the debate virtual prompted the president to declare he won’t be participating. However, Fahrenkopf said the final debate in Nashville, Tennessee, between the two candidates is scheduled to be in person but could be subject to change based on social distancing recommendations due to the coronavirus pandemic. California Officials Knocked Down Giant Trump Sign on Private Property, Claimed It Was a Safety Hazard

Officials from the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) knocked down giant white letters spelling “TRUMP” on the hillside of someone’s private property on Tuesday, citing it as a “life and safety issue.”

“This was a life and safety issue because there were concerns about distracted driving,” Chief Public Information Officer for Caltrans Lauren Wonder said.

The sign was located at the Sepulveda Pass hills just outside of the largely blue and Democratic-run Los Angeles adjacent to highway 405.

The first report of the sign came right before 7 a.m. from someone who “was apparently concerned it could spark a blaze” following multiple “destructive brush fires in the past few years.”

Dividing Biden Blames Trump for Democrat Governor Kidnap Attempt, Without Evidence

Former Vice President Joe Biden blamed President Donald Trump on Thursday for a foiled kidnapping plot by a group of extremists who intended to abduct Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer. . .

Though it did not name a specific political ideology, the FBI’s criminal complaint alleges that the members of the group “talked about creating a society that followed the U.S. Bill of Rights and where they could be self-sufficient.” Two apparently met at a Second Amendment rally.

One member of the group, Brandon Caserta, was seen in an online video in front of an anarchist flag.

Biden, speaking to reporters in Arizona alongside running mate Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA), said Trump’s rhetoric was to blame:

There is no place for hate in America. And both of us have been talking about this for some time, about how white supremacists and these militias area a genuine threat. I want to compliment the FBI and the police agencies for what they did, and how they stepped up. But look –the words of a president matter. Whether they can — you’ve heard me say this before. They can cause a nation to have th market rise or fall, go to war or bring peace, but they can also breathe oxygen into those who are filled with hate and danger, and I just think It’s got to stop. The president has to realize the words he utters matter.

Pelosi Announces Intention to Push Constitutional Measure to Remove President Trump From Office

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi made a dramatic announcement during her weekly press conference Thursday by telling reporters that she intends to discuss a constitutional measure to remove President Trump from office, following questions regarding Trump’s health as he recovers from coronavirus.

The 25th Amendment allows for the vice president to become acting president if is determined that the president “is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office.”

“Tomorrow, by the way, tomorrow, come here tomorrow,” Pelosi said. “We’re going to be talking about the 25th Amendment.” . . .

Pelosi had earlier questioned the status of Trump’s health, as well as exactly how long he has had COVID-19.

“I think that the public needs to know the health condition of the President,” Pelosi said. “There’s one question that he refused to answer … when was his last negative test?” Pelosi said that this information is necessary in order to “make a judgment about the actions that were taken after that.” (Read more from “Pelosi Announces Intention to Push Constitutional Measure to Remove President Trump From Office” HERE)

Trump: U.S. Troops ‘Should’ Be Out of Afghanistan by Christmas

President Donald Trump on Wednesday teased a complete withdrawal of U.S troops from Afghanistan by Christmas, an aggressive timeline to fulfill a campaign promise to end what he has called America’s “endless wars” that comes as the president trails in polls less than a month to go before the election.

“We should have the small remaining number of our BRAVE Men and Women serving in Afghanistan home by Christmas!” Trump wrote on Twitter.

It was unclear whether Trump’s tweet amounted to an announcement or another of many policy suggestions he has handed down over the social media platform throughout his time in office.

His post comes a little less than a month after Gen. Frank McKenzie, commander of U.S. Central Command, announced plans to cut the troop presence in Iraq to 3,000 from 5,200 by the end of September. (Read more from “Trump: U.S. Troops ‘Should’ Be Out of Afghanistan by Christmas” HERE)

White House Physician: Donald Trump Has COVID-19 Antibodies

White House physician Dr. Sean Conley said Tuesday that the president’s blood was showing antibodies for COVID-19.

“Of note today, the president’s labs demonstrated detectable levels of SARS-CoV-2 IgG (COVID-19) antibodies from labs drawn Monday, October 5th,” Conley wrote in a memo sent to reporters. He added that the president’s blood work drawn on Thursday did not show any antibodies.

Conley said that President Trump had been “symptom-free” for over 24 hours and fever-free for more than 4 days. . .

The president is scheduled to debate former Vice President Joe Biden on Thursday, October 15th, in Miami.

Trump Says He Has Declassified Documents Related to Russia, Clinton Email Probes

By New York Post. President Trump on Tuesday said he had declassified all documents tied to federal probes into Russian interference in the 2016 election and Hillary Clinton’s use of a private server for government emails.

“I have fully authorized the total Declassification of any & all documents pertaining to the single greatest political CRIME in American History, the Russia Hoax. Likewise, the Hillary Clinton Email Scandal. No redactions!” Trump tweeted.

The president’s announcement came after National Intelligence Director John Ratcliffe declassified documents that revealed ex-CIA Director John Brennan had briefed former President Obama on a claim that Clinton ordered “a campaign plan to stir up a scandal” by linking Trump to Russia in 2016. Senators Press FBI to Stop Stonewalling Crossfire Hurricane Investigation Subpoenas

By The Federalist. Chairman of the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Ron Johnson and Chairman of the Senate Finance Committee Charles Grassley wrote to FBI Director Christopher Wray on Monday requesting that he produce all of the information “relating to several unanswered or incomplete responses to ongoing oversight” by various Senate committees by Oct. 6.

The letter comes as the Russian collusion hoax meant to indict President Donald Trump peddled by Democrats and the mainstream media continues to crumble.

In the letter, the senators reprimand the FBI director for his agency’s three specific failures to provide already requested and subpoenaed information, including documents and messages to their committees beginning in April related to the Crossfire Hurricane investigation. This evidence, the letter explains, has “remained hidden for too long,” especially since “public interest in these records is significant.”

In April, the Senate “requested all intelligence records, foreign or domestic, received or reviewed by the Crossfire Hurricane team, as well as all FBI records about those intelligence products.” The senators say the FBI ignored the request, which acknowledged the faults of the Steele dossier on which the surveillance of Trump was supposedly based, and instead pointed the Senate to the Office of the Director of National Intelligence. No Virus Aide Bill and No Vaccine Before the Election

By Washington Examiner. President Trump will have neither a new coronavirus aid bill nor a vaccine before the election.

Trump announced Tuesday that he has stopped negotiations with Speaker Nancy Pelosi, tweeting that she “is not negotiating in good faith.” Pelosi and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin had apparently reached an impasse over the amount of the aid package. Pelosi wanted $2.4 trillion, while Mnuchin had offered $1.6 trillion.

Trump’s announcement means there won’t be a new round of stimulus checks or more money for schools, day care, or coronavirus-related health costs between now and next year. The president said he will pass a major stimulus bill after he wins reelection.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell told reporters Tuesday he supports Trump’s move to end the aid talks. (Read more from “No Virus Aide Bill and No Vaccine Before the Election” HERE)

2nd Stimulus Checks: Trump Halts Coronavirus Relief Talks Until After Nov. 3 Election

By KTLA 5. President Donald Trump on Tuesday called an abrupt end to negotiations with Democrats over additional COVID-19 relief, delaying action until after the election despite ominous warnings from his own Federal Reserve chairman about the deteriorating conditions in the economy. . .

Trump’s move came immediately after he spoke with the top GOP leaders in Congress, who had been warily watching talks between Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and Pelosi. Many Senate Republicans had signaled they would not be willing to go along with any stimulus legislation that topped $1 trillion, and GOP aides had been privately dismissive of the prospects for a deal.

Just on Saturday, tweeting from Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, Trump said, “OUR GREAT USA WANTS & NEEDS STIMULUS. WORK TOGETHER AND GET IT DONE.” But any Pelosi-sponsored agreement of close to $2 trillion raised the potential of a GOP revolt if it came to a vote.

Last week, the White House said it was backing a $400 per week pandemic jobless benefit and dangled the possibility of a COVID-19 relief bill of $1.6 trillion. But that offer was rejected by Pelosi, who continued to take a hard line in the talks, including insisting on repeal of a $254 billion GOP business tax break passed in the March package as a way to finance additional relief.
