President Trump Signs Police Reform Executive Order — Here’s What It Will Do

President Donald Trump signed an executive order Tuesday aimed at reforming police practices in America after a series of high-profile police killings sparked nationwide protests and riots, CNBC reported.

Trump, who is opposed to growing calls to defund police departments, is calling for increased transparency and accountability for police misconduct, a limit on the use of chokeholds, and increased use of non-police personnel to deal with issues related to mental health or drug addiction.

The order, titled, “Safe Policing for Safe Communities,” acknowledges instances of police abuse and brutality and the negative impact that has had on community relationships with police.

It establishes a national certification and credentialing system for law enforcement agencies; creates a federal database to track officers credibly accused of wrongdoing; discourages the use of chokeholds unless an officer’s life is in danger; and encourages Congress to pass further police reforms. WATCH: Biden Used This Controversial Phrase About Confederate Heritage Group; This Is Who People Want to Replace Confederate Statues With

By Fox News. A recently resurfaced video clip shows Joe Biden calling members of a Confederate heritage group “fine people” in 1993 — nearly mirroring President Trump’s 2017 remarks that some protesters opposing the removal of Confederate statues in Charlottesville, Va., were “very fine people.”

Biden declared his 2020 presidential candidacy last year by charging that Trump, in those controversial comments made after white supremacists also joined those protests, had “assigned a moral equivalence between those spreading hate and those with the courage to stand against it.” Although Trump noted at the time that he was “not talking about the neo-Nazis and the white nationalists because they should be condemned totally,” Democrats and some top Republicans criticized him for not speaking out more forcefully from the start.

However, speaking at a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on July 22, 1993, during the confirmation process for Associate Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Biden himself offered something of a positive endorsement for the United Daughters of the Confederacy (UDC), which has been linked to the Ku Klux Klan.

“I, too, heard that speech and, for the public listening to this, the senator made a very moving and eloquent speech,” Biden said, referring to remarks by then-Alabama Democratic Sen. Howell Thomas Heflin. “As a son of the Confederacy, acknowledging that it was time to change and yield to a position that Sen. Carol Moseley-Braun raised on the Senate floor, not granting a federal charter to an organization made up of many fine people who continue to display the Confederate flag as a symbol.”

New petition advocates replacing confederate monuments with Dolly Parton statues

By Clarksville Now. A new petition suggesting that confederate monuments be replaced with statues of country music icon Dolly Parton have begun circulating throughout Tennessee, gathering thousands of signatures.

“History should not be forgotten, but we need not glamorize those who do not deserve our praise. Instead, let us honor a true Tennessee hero, Dolly Parton…Let’s replace the statues of men who sought to tear this country apart with a monument to the woman who has worked her entire life to bring us closer together,” says Alex Parsons, who started the petition.

The debate over confederate monuments and their removal from public spaces has become a hot topic in the past week as protests over police brutality and systemic racism continue across the country.

Wednesday, June 10, a committee of Tennessee lawmakers voted down a resolution (11-5) to remove the bust of Nathan Bedford Forrest, founder and first grand wizard of the Ku Klux Klan, from the state capitol building. Trump’s Niece, Bitter Over Contested Will, Set to Release ‘Salacious’ Tell-All Book About POTUS

For those concerned that there won’t be enough salacious gossip in the run up to the 2020 presidential election, fear not, a disgruntled Trump family member has a tell-all book due out in August.

Mary Trump, the daughter of President Donald Trump’s brother, Fred Trump Jr., will reportedly release “Too Much And Never Enough” on Aug. 11, which is just before the Republican National Convention.

The book will detail “harrowing and salacious” stories about the president, according to Daily Beast — after all, how else would it sell?

Citing people with knowledge of the matter, Daily Beast said the book is expected to include conversations with President Trump’s sister, retired federal judge Maryanne Trump Barry, that contain intimate and damning thoughts about the president.

As the news outlet reported, Mary Trump was the primary source behind a 2018 New York Times story about Trump’s “dubious tax schemes.” (Read more from “Trump’s Niece, Bitter Over Contested Will, Set to Release ‘Salacious’ Tell-All Book About POTUS” HERE)

Senate Committee Votes to Require Renaming of Military Bases Named After Confederates

The Republican-led Senate Armed Services Committee has voted to require the Pentagon to rename military bases named after Confederate officers, amid growing calls to do so in the wake of the death of George Floyd last month.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D) tweeted Tuesday, “As a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, I filed an amendment to the annual defense bill last week to rename all bases named for Confederate generals. It’s long past time to end the tribute to white supremacy on our military installations.”

The senator linked to an op-ed by retired Army Gen. David Petraeus, who argued that Army installations bearing the names of such rebel “traitors” should be renamed. . .

The president tweeted Tuesday, “It has been suggested that we should rename as many as 10 of our Legendary Military Bases, such as Fort Bragg in North Carolina, Fort Hood in Texas, Fort Benning in Georgia, etc. These Monumental and very Powerful Bases have become part of a Great American Heritage, and a history of Winning, Victory, and Freedom. The United States of America trained and deployed our HEROES on these Hallowed Grounds, and won two World Wars. Therefore, my Administration will not even consider the renaming of these Magnificent and Fabled Military Installations.”

White House Claims ‘Misreporting’ That Trump Will Claim ‘Systemic Racism’ in Police Departments

The White House on Monday disputed an NBC report claiming that President Donald Trump would claim that systemic raciscm infected local police departments, during an executive order signing on Monday.

“I think there was some misreporting on this earlier,” a senior administration official said Monday on background in a briefing with reporters, when asked about a report that the executive order would ultimately side with Black Lives Matter protesters on the issue of systemic racism in police departments.

The official repeated that the majority of police officers were good and that the event would bring together members of law enforcement and families who lost loved ones to police shootings for the ceremony.

The executive order, expected to be signed on Tuesday, incentivizes local police departments to improve their use of force standards, in response to the George Floyd protests.

A senior administration official blamed the failure of local police departments to modernize and update use of force standards in areas that experienced violent protests, looting, and rioting. Trump Allies See Biden Plotting to Challenge Defeat in November Election

White House allies believe Joe Biden could be laying the groundwork for a Stacey Abrams-style challenge to a Trump victory in November with his repeated claims that the president is preparing to steal the election.

In an interview with Trevor Noah on The Daily Show, the presumptive Democratic nominee said he was worried Trump would refuse to leave the White House if he lost.

The president has said repeatedly he would accept the results, leaving advisers and allies to conclude that Biden may be preparing public opinion for a protracted tussle over the outcome.

“We all know that Biden isn’t all there these days, but in the infamous words of the Mooch, he’s beginning to sound like a paranoiac,” said a former White House official, referring to Anthony Scaramucci, the short-lived White House communications director. “Is he getting these crazed talking points from ‘Governor’ Stacey Abrams?”

Abrams challenged the outcome of the 2018 Georgia governor’s race, in which she lost narrowly to the Republican candidate, Brian Kemp. That sparked a bitter 10-day battle as Abrams argued that “deliberate and intentional” voter suppression had delivered victory to her rival. Biden Reminds Voters Trump Made America Great Again

Evidence continues to mount that Biden’s staff is sabotaging his slim hope of being elected president. That is the only reasonable explanation for his attack on President Donald John Trump’s economy.

The script they gave Biden was that Obama handed over a perfect economy with a 4.9% unemployment rate.

In a press release, Biden said, “Trump inherited the longest economic expansion in history from the Obama-Biden administration, but like everything else he’s inherited, he has squandered it.”

Fact-check: President Trump dropped taxes and dropped unemployment to 3.5%, its lowest in 50 years. (Read more from “Biden Reminds Voters Trump Made America Great Again” HERE)

Mark Zuckerberg Blasts Trump for ‘Incendiary Rhetoric’

In a letter appearing online Thursday, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla Chan write that President Trump’s “divisive and incendiary rhetoric” has left them “deeply shaken and disgusted” in a volatile time that they say requires “unity” in the U.S.

Writing under the letterhead of their Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, which focuses on technology solutions to social problems, the couple were responding to last week’s call by more than 270 scientists that Facebook address what the scientists described as “misinformation” appearing on social media. . .

The scientists, many of them funded by the initiative, accused President Trump of being a source of the misinformation.

“Social media platforms, like Facebook, have emerged as primary ways of communicating information,” the scientists wrote to Zuckerberg last Saturday. “While they have allowed dissemination of information across the globe, they also facilitate the spread of misinformation. The spread of news that is not vetted for factual accuracy leads to confusion and a mistrust of experts.”

Later, the scientists wrote, “(W)e were disconcerted to see that Facebook has not followed their own policies in regards to President Trump, who has used the Facebook platform to spread both misinformation and incendiary statements. For example, his statement ‘when the looting starts, the shooting starts” is a clear statement of inciting violence.” (Read more from “Mark Zuckerberg Blasts Trump for ‘Incendiary Rhetoric’” HERE)

Trump Initiative Seized $1B Worth of Drugs at Sea Amid Pandemic

A Trump administration initiative to stop drug smugglers moving narcotics from South and Central America into the United States resulted in more than $1 billion worth of drugs seized in the Caribbean and the eastern Pacific.

Acting Homeland Security Secretary Chad Wolf announced Tuesday that Coast Guard and Navy ships deployed 1,500 miles south of the U.S. since April have stopped more than 94,000 pounds of cocaine and 9,200 pounds of marijuana from smugglers attempting to run the loads from South America through Central America and Mexico. Cocaine seizures were up 8% compared to the same time last year.

On April 1, President Trump announced a stepped-up effort by federal agencies to go after drug smugglers moving cocaine, which is largely grown in Colombia, to the U.S. The U.S. works with governments in partner countries to maintain a presence in international waters and to make seizures when intelligence gatherers notify ships of suspicious boaters.

“The fact that all of this was done in the span of two months within the COVID-19 environment is nothing short of remarkable,” Wolf said during a press conference at Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Tuesday morning. “As DHS continues to support the federal response to COVID-19 pandemic, we’ve also kept our eye on our traditional adversaries, including the persistent threat posed by transnational criminal organizations.” (Read more from “Trump Initiative Seized $1B Worth of Drugs at Sea Amid Pandemic” HERE)

Trump Rails Against Fox News, Compares It to CNN

President Donald Trump railed against Fox News on Wednesday, comparing the network to CNN after it dipped out of the House hearing on police reform following the death of George Floyd.

After Fox News dropped its live stream of the hearing just before testimony from Angela Underwood Jacobs, whose brother Federal Protective Services Officer David Underwood was killed during riots in Oakland, California on May 30th, President Trump attacked the network on Twitter.

“Incredible! @FoxNews just took Congressional Hearing off the air just prior to important witness statements,” Trump tweeted. “More like CNN!!! Fox is lost!!!”
