Trump Eyes Massive Expulsion of Suspected Chinese Spies

Trump administration officials have intensified discussions over whether to expel employees of Chinese media outlets suspected of being spies, in retaliation for China’s planned expulsion of American journalists from major outlets, The New York Times reported.

Since the virus began spreading across the United States, Washington and Beijing have waged a global information war over the outbreak, the report said.

President Trump and his aides are trying to pin responsibility on China, where Communist Party officials initially covered up the dangers of the virus as it was first discovered. Trump, though, has been criticized for vast failures in the American response, the report said.

Some American intelligence officials have pushed for years to expel employees of Chinese media organizations who they say mainly file intelligence reports, the report said.

The officials now see an opening to make a strong case after Beijing abruptly announced this month that it would expel almost all American citizens who report from mainland China for The New York Times, The Washington Post and The Wall Street Journal. Trump Activates Armed Forces Reserves – up to 1,000,000 Individual Reservists (VIDEO)

By Daily Caller. President Donald Trump announced at Friday’s coronavirus task force briefing that he has granted the Secretaries of Defense and Homeland Security the “authority to activate the ready reserve components of the Armed Forces” to help battle the pandemic.

“This will allow us to mobilize medical, disaster, and emergency response personnel to help wage our battle against the virus by activating thousands of experienced service members including retirees,” Trump told the reporters gathered in the White House Brady Briefing Room. “We have a lot of people, retirees, — great, great people — who have come back in who have offered to help the nation in this extraordinary time of need.”

The text of the executive order states that the reserves shall not be activated for more than 24 months or service, and the total active units shall not exceed 1,000,000. (Read more from “Trump Activates Armed Forces Reserves – up to 1,000,000 Individual Reservists (VIDEO)” HERE)

Trump Thanks Rachel Maddow for Highlighting Efforts of Army Crops of Engineers

By Townhall. President Trump thanked Rachel Maddow on Friday for her interview with Lieutenant General Todd Semonite, chief of engineers and commanding general of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. In a tweet, Trump gave rare thanks to the MSNBC host for highlighting the important work being carried out by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in conjunction with the Federal Emergency Management Administration and the Department of Health and Human Services.

General Semonite spoke about the Corps’ current work in assisting the federal government in its response to the coronavirus pandemic. The federal government is assisting state and local governments in preparing for the peak of coronavirus cases in their individual areas.

General Semonite said the Corps is helping to modify existing facilities — such as hotels, convention centers, college dorms, and sports arenas — to meet the needs of the medical community in treating patients with COVID-19. The general said the Corps is currently assessing 103 different places in 50 states and eight territories to meet the increased demand for hospital beds.

WATCH: President Trump Invokes the Defense Production Act

After weeks of his critics demanding that he use the Defense Production Act, President Donald Trump announced that he would use the act to order General Motors to manufacture ventilators.

“Today, I signed a Presidential Memorandum directing the Secretary of Health and Human Services to use any and all authority available under the Defense Production Act to require General Motors to accept, perform, and prioritize federal contracts for ventilators,” Trump said in a statement on Friday.

Earlier on Friday the president signaled that he was close to issuing the order when he tweeted about GM and their negotiations with the federal government. . .

The Trump administration has been criticized by some for what appears to be a lack of medical equipment to tackle the pandemic that was months in coming. The administration has argued that previous administrations, both the Obama and the last Bush administration, are to blame for the shortages. U.S. is New Epicenter of the Coronavirus Pandemic, NYC’s Leaders to Blame?; Trump Administration to Publish Social Distancing Guidelines for Counties According to Risk

By Live Science. The coronavirus outbreak reached a somber milestone in the U.S. on Thursday (March 26) — the nation now has more coronavirus cases than any other country in the world.

There are now at least 82,174 cases of the new coronavirus disease, COVID-19, in the United States, according to worldometer, a website that tracks coronavirus cases. That’s higher than the case count in either Italy (which has 80,589 cases) or China (which has 81,285 cases). . .

Just a few days ago, the World Health Organization warned that the U.S. had the potential to become the new epicenter of the coronavirus pandemic. (Read more from “U.S. Is New Epicenter of the Coronavirus Pandemic” HERE)

Tucker Carlson Hammers New York’s Leaders, not Trump, for Spreading Chinese Virus

By Victor Garcia. Tucker Carlson focused the top of his Thursday show on New York City’s battle with the coronavirus, ripping city officials for increasing the “risk” for citizens and not taking the outbreak seriously in its early stages.

“As this deadly virus emerged from eastern China and began to spread inexorably across the globe, clearly headed here, leaders in New York not only failed to shield their citizens from it, they took affirmative and aggressive steps to increase the risk to their population,” Carlson said.

“Why would they do that? Well, because they were worried far more about being called racist than protecting human lives. That’s not an overstatement. That’s not hyperbole.”

Carlson criticized New York City health commissioner Dr. Oxiris Barbot, among others, who dismissed the incoming threat of the coronavirus in February.

“The risk to New Yorkers from coronavirus is low and … our preparedness as a city is very high,” Barbot said at a Feb. 2 press conference supporting the Chinatown Lunar New Year Parade and Festival. “There is no reason not to take the subway, not to take a bus, not to go out to your favorite restaurant and certainly not to miss the parade next Sunday [Feb. 9].” (Read more from this story HERE)

Trump Administration to Publish Social Distancing Guidelines for Counties According to Risk

By The Blaze. President Donald Trump announced Thursday that his administration will roll out social distancing guidelines for state and local governments by categorizing counties according to their level of risk amid the coronavirus pandemic, in order to assist officials “in making decision about maintaining, increasing, or relaxing social distancing and other mitigation measures.” . . .

In a letter to the nation’s governors, the president wrote, ‘As we enhance protections against the virus, Americans across the country are hoping the day will soon arrive when they can resume their normal economic, social, and religious lives.”

“If furtherance of this shared goal,” President Trump continued, “my Administration is working to publish new guidelines for State and local policymakers to use in making decision about maintaining, increasing, or relaxing social distancing and other mitigation measures they have put in place.”

The president explained that this initiative can be achieved through the increased COVID-19 testing across the nation, providing data allowing the federal government to classify counties “with respect to continued risks posed by the virus” as the spread of the disease is monitored.

Trump to Review Options to ‘Open the Country up’ as U.S. Coronavirus Cases Pass China, Italy

By CNBC. President Donald Trump will hear recommendations from the White House coronavirus task force this weekend on plans to “open the country up” as the economy continues to strain under the pandemic.

The new guidance on how to kickstart the economy will come days after the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the U.S. surpasses China or Italy, making it the country with the largest outbreak in the world.

Vice President Mike Pence told reporters at the White House on Thursday that the task force will share “a range of recommendations and additional guidance for going forward” with the next steps in its efforts to blunt the impact of the coronavirus.

“The president has made it clear, that in his words, he wants to open the country up. But we’re going to do that responsibly, and as the president told the governors today, we’ll do that based on the data,” said Pence, who leads the U.S. response to the outbreak. If Money From the Feds Is Free, Why Not Give Everyone $100,000?

Most politicians in both parties adamantly disagree with President Trump on the need to achieve proper balance between quarantine and our livelihoods. They want an economic and liberty nuclear winter, and they want it indefinitely – without investigating any of the science and data behind it. At the same time, they want to spend trillions upon trillions of dollars “stimulating” a dead body with nothing to stimulate and don’t appear to see any downside to accruing all this debt and risking market distortions. So if that’s the case, why not just give every American a year’s worth of income?

Like all Kabuki theater in Washington, where Republicans agree with Democrats on 99 percent of an issue but fight truculently over the last 1 percent, both parties shook hands (I mean elbow-bumped!) on a $2 trillion stimulus today plus $4 trillion in Federal Reserve shenanigans.

The bill indiscriminately throws too much money in a black hole without better defining and studying the scope of the problem to come up with a better solution. It solves nothing, bankrupts our nation forever, and still brilliantly manages to leave many people behind at the same time!

“In effect, this is a wartime level of investment into our nation. The men and women of the greatest country on Earth are going to defeat this coronavirus and reclaim our future,” said Majority Leader Mitch McConnell when announcing the deal this morning. “The Senate’s going to make sure that they have the ammunition they need to do it.”

The problem is that this is not an investment at all. There is nothing to invest in or stimulate, with both parties pushing an indefinite lockdown. Yes, there were some good and necessary provisions enounced in the bill, such as unemployment benefits for those forced out of work by government (12% of the bill) and more funding for critical health care supplies (5% of the bill). But the rest of the bill is throwing money in a black hole when everyone knows they will pass numerous other bills that will need to double down on more payouts if they don’t address the root of the problem.

We should have a united agenda to get healthy people back to work with a mix of better-targeted geographic and demographic quarantines, supply Americans with masks and gloves to go outside like the Asian countries did, and get a more accurate projection of this virus than the flawed study that has been relied on. Without that, no amount of money in the world will help.

This bill sends a $1,200 check to every adult and an extra $500 for each additional child. The checks are phased out in a graduated scale for individuals earning over $75,000 and families earning more than $150,000 until they are completely eliminated at $99,000 for individuals and $198,000 for couples. It also funds loans and subsidies for corporations and large industries ($500 billion), such as the airline industry. Boeing got a $17 billion carve-out. There is no provision ensuring that those who get funding don’t take the money to China. The cost of the small business loans is $367 billion, along with $150 billion for state governments and $130 billion for hospitals.

Obviously, we all agree that with people forced by government to shut down, they need to be compensated; however, this bill achieves the worst of all worlds. The cost is crushing, but it fails to come anywhere near reimbursing businesses and many individuals for the losses. It indiscriminately mails out checks as high as $3,000-$4,000 for families under the $150,000 income level threshold who have not lost a penny and are still working. On the other hand, those earning over the threshold but who are still not wealthy, especially in high-cost areas, are left with no compensation, even if they are 100% out of work.

Furthermore, this bill calculates income pursuant to last year’s tax filing. That means if you were a small business that earned $200,000 last year but then were completely shut down this year, you are out of luck. Means-testing the rebates rather than situationally testing them as compensation only for those out of work makes no sense.

It’s true that lawmakers expanded and expedited unemployment benefits to cover those people, adding $600 of additional weekly benefits at a cost of $250 billion. But once they have that provision, which will bring weekly unemployment benefits up to $1,000 for most people and as much as $1,200-$1,400 in some states, why did they need the rebates too? Moreover, as Sens. Sasse and Scott are pointing out, it will further incentivize beleaguered employers to lay off more workers. Let’s wait to get the economy moving again, and the income will come back.

This legislation also doubles down on the first rescue bill’s mandated 12 weeks of paid leave and ensures that the cash is advanced to the businesses to cover the mandate.

“Well, government shut these people down, so they deserved to be paid,” some might suggest.

In that case, $1,200 won’t cut it for a once-successful small businesses. So why bankrupt the nation for a half-baked measure that literally cannot stimulate anything at this point, when they will have to spend another $2 trillion in two weeks?

And if our policymakers clearly see no downside to this because they seem to believe the feds can print an unlimited amount of money with limited consequences, then why not give every individual $50,000 and every family $100,000 to make them feel comfortable and quell the anxiety? I’m dead serious. What is the limit, and why is this so arbitrary? At what point do we become like Venezuela? If lawmakers believe there is no risk of that happening, why not fully compensate people for the long-term shutdown these same politicians are pushing?

Given that once the parties agree on something, they pass the bills with lightning speed anyway, why not just separate out the different components and hold individual votes? We need a rule of one issue at a time per bill.

In reality, this is not a WWII-style investment. Here’s what a WWII-style investment would look like:

Congress would immediately convene to debate and study the critical questions that they are taking for granted about the virus itself : When did it begin, how many have already had it, what is the best evidence to properly balance quarantine with work? And then make decisions that flow from that reality.

Congress should push a massive surge in deregulation that is commensurate with the spending surge so that entrepreneurs can know with certitude that they will operate under a pro-business climate in the long run. This will help us decrease our dependency on China, because businesses would be able to operate here without draconian and costly rules.

If we are going to bankrupt ourselves, why not actually invest the money in the form of slashing taxes across the board for several years so we can rebuild by incentivizing employment, not unemployment?

Abolish all foreign worker visas to make sure no American worker is left behind. We need a national plan to rebuild our economy with American labor on American soil and permanently socially distance ourselves from China.

Spawn a revolution in health care competition and freedom by removing all the barriers to starting new hospitals that are now controlled by the incumbent powers.

No member of Congress or high-ranking executive official should be paid until the economy meets a certain benchmark.

That is what a real investment looks like. What Republicans are achieving now is the worst of all policy outcomes and the worst of all political liabilities. Thus, if they are going to accept the premise of the Left that we need an indefinite shutdown and indefinite spending and focus on no other area of how we got to this point and how to get out of it, then why not just mail everyone a $100,000 check? It’s free anyway! (For more from the author of “If Money From the Feds Is Free, Why Not Give Everyone $100,000?” please click HERE)

LARGEST IN HISTORY: President, Congress Agree on $2 Trillion Coronavirus Emergency Relief Bill

By Breitbart. President Donald Trump and Congress reached a deal on the terms for a $2 trillion emergency relief bill to address the economic impact of the ongoing coronavirus outbreak, early in the morning on Wednesday.

Politico reported:

Lawmakers and the Trump administration reached an agreement on a nearly $2 trillion coronavirus emergency rescue package, a move intended to assist businesses and millions of Americans amid an unprecedented halt in the economy.

The announcement caps five days of tense negotiations between senators and the White House. Both the Senate and House still need to approve the bill before sending it to President Donald Trump for his signature.

The president had sounded an optimistic tone in his briefing for reporters at the White House on Tuesday evening, though Republicans had been scathing in their criticism of Democrats for blocking Senate passage of a relief bill that had been agreed to by the two parties on Sunday. White House and Senate Reach Deal on $2 Trillion Coronavirus Relief Package

By Axios. The White House and Republican and Democratic Senate leaders struck a bipartisan deal early Wednesday over a $2 trillion stimulus package designed to ease the economic impact of the novel coronavirus, per AP.

Details: Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell tweeted soon after the deal was reached, “At last, we have a deal. After days of intense discussions, the Senate has reached a bipartisan agreement on a historic relief package for this pandemic. We’re going to pass this legislation later today.”

White House legislative affairs director Eric Ueland, told reporters just before 1 a.m. a deal had been reached but the bill’s text had yet to be completed, the New York Times reports.

“We have either, clear, explicit legislative text reflecting all parties or we know exactly where we’re going to land on legislative text as we continue to finish,” he added.

. . .Per Axios’ Alayna Treene, the emergency legislation will deliver desperately needed aid to American families, small businesses and corporations hit hardest by the virus. (Read more from “White House and Senate Reach Deal on $2 Trillion Coronavirus Relief Package” HERE)

What’s in the Emergency Relief Bill?

The stimulus bill — by far the largest ever proposed — comes with a price tag equivalent to 9% of the nation’s gross domestic product and is meant to provide direct financial aid to help individuals, hospitals and businesses. It includes $300 billion for small businesses, $150 billion for local and state governments and $130 billion for hospitals, according to those involved in the negotiations. . .

The amounts of the one-time payments, which officials hope could go out to Americans as soon as early April, will be based on income reported in 2018 taxes, declining gradually beginning with individuals who made $75,000 or married couples filed jointly who made $150,000. Individuals making $99,000 or above or married couples making $198,000 or more would receive no check. People would also receive an additional $500 per child.

Schumer said negotiators agreed to put “unemployment insurance on steroids” by expanding those covered to include people who are furloughed, gig workers and freelancers, and by increasing the payments by $600 dollars per week for four months on top of what states provide as a base unemployment compensation. Doctor: I Treated 350 Coronavirus Patients With 100% Success (VIDEO); Cuba Uses ‘Wonder Drug’ to Fight Coronavirus Around World Despite U.S. Sanctions; New York Hospitals Treating Coronavirus Patients With Vitamin C

By WND. A physician in New York state claims he has used the anti-malaria drug hydroxychloroquine and zinc to treat 350 patients for COVID-19 with 100 percent success.

In a video posted on YouTube, Dr. Vladimir Zelenko said he saw the symptom of shortness of breath resolved within four to six hours, the Gateway Pundit blog reported.

Zelenko, addressing his message to President Trump, said he’s a board-certified family practioner in the community of Kiryas Joel in Orange County, New York, in the Hudson Valley, about 50 miles north of New York City.

“I’m seeing a tremendous outbreak in this community,” he said. “My estimate is more than 60% currently have the infection.

“That’s based on the percentage of the tests that I’m getting back already,” Zelenko explained. “That’s probably around 20,000 people, probably more.” (Read more from “Doctor: I Treated 350 Coronavirus Patients With 100% Success (VIDEO)” HERE)

Cuba Uses ‘Wonder Drug’ to Fight Coronavirus Around World Despite U.S. Sanctions

By Newsweek. Cuba has mobilized its medical corps around the world to distribute a new “wonder drug” that officials there say is capable of treating the new coronavirus despite the United States’ strict sanctions that continue to pressure the communist-run island.

The drug, called Interferon Alpha-2B Recombinant (IFNrec), is jointly developed by scientists from Cuba and China, where the coronavirus COVID-19 disease outbreak first emerged late last year. Already active in China since January, the Cuban Medical Brigades began deploying to dozens of nations, providing personnel and products such as its new anti-viral drug to battle the disease that has exceeded 400,000 confirmed cases across the globe. As of Tuesday, over 100,000 people have recovered from the infection and more than 18,000 have died.

Cuba first used advanced interferon techniques to treat dengue fever in the 1980s and later found success in using it to combat HIV, human papillomavirus, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C and other diseases. The use of Interferon Alpha-2B Recombinant “prevents aggravation and complications in patients reaching that stage that ultimately can result in death,” Cuban biotech expert Luis Herrera Martinez said, according to a recent Yale University Press Blog feature written by the University of Glasgow’s Helen Yaffe. She called the treatment a potential “wonder drug” against the new coronavirus. (Read more from “Cuba Uses ‘Wonder Drug’ to Fight Coronavirus Around World Despite U.S. Sanctions” HERE)

New York Hospitals Treating Coronavirus Patients With Vitamin C

By New York Post. Seriously sick coronavirus patients in New York state’s largest hospital system are being given massive doses of vitamin C — based on promising reports that it’s helped people in hard-hit China, The Post has learned.

Dr. Andrew G. Weber, a pulmonologist and critical-care specialist affiliated with two Northwell Health facilities on Long Island, said his intensive-care patients with the coronavirus immediately receive 1,500 milligrams of intravenous vitamin C.

Identical amounts of the powerful antioxidant are then re-administered three or four times a day, he said.

Each dose is more than 16 times the National Institutes of Health’s daily recommended dietary allowance of vitamin C, which is just 90 milligrams for adult men and 75 milligrams for adult women.

The regimen is based on experimental treatments administered to people with the coronavirus in Shanghai, China, Weber said. (Read more from “New York Hospitals Treating Coronavirus Patients With Vitamin C” HERE)

Recent Poll: Trump’s Approval Rating Jumps 5 Points to 49%, Matching His All-Time High

President Donald Trump’s job approval rating jumped 5 percentage points to 49% in the latest Gallup survey, matching the highest mark of his presidency.

Trump enjoyed a 49% approval rating in late January and early February during the time of his acquittal in the Senate impeachment trial. That week was a really good week for the president. But since then, his rating had dropped. Now it appears that the president is again enjoying a “small rally of public support,” as he has reclaimed his all-time high.

The bump is likely due to a favorable view of how Trump has handled the COVID-19 outbreak within the United States, Gallup reported:

Trump’s response to the novel coronavirus pandemic may be behind his higher overall approval rating. Americans give the president generally positive reviews for his handling of the situation, with 60% approving and 38% disapproving. Ninety-four percent of Republicans, 60% of independents and 27% of Democrats approve of his response.

Trump also gained favor from two unlikely sources: Democrats and independents. While the president’s approval rating among Republicans held steady at just over 90%, his approval rating among Democrats grew by 6 points and grew among independents by 8 points in the recent survey. Conservatives Fear ‘Temporary Relief’ Spending Will Lock in New Government Programs Forever

As a multitrillion dollar emergency coronavirus spending package ground toward passage Tuesday, conservative activists worried that this temporary measure to keep the economy afloat during the pandemic will instead lead to a permanent expansion of the federal government. . .

A repeatedly expressed fear was that new benefits will prove difficult to take away once enacted, even after the economy improves, and elevated spending will be difficult to claw back to pre-coronavirus levels once the crisis is averted.

“Conservatives believe economic freedom is essential to limiting the current economic crisis and accommodating a fast recovery following the economic turmoil caused by the coronavirus,” the Club for Growth, a leading conservative group, said in a statement. “And above all, whatever Congress does, it should first and foremost follow the Hippocratic Oath and ‘DO NO HARM.’” The Club is still reviewing the current bill, according to a spokesperson.

Democrats and Republicans have sparred over the exact contents of the emergency legislation, with each accusing the other of prioritizing pet programs over cash-strapped businesses and workers stuck at home in an effort to slow the spread of coronavirus. But President Trump and lawmakers mostly agree on new federal spending to avert a coronavirus-induced economic collapse, with Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin playing a significant role in negotiating with Senate Democrats. And Senate Republicans have repeatedly rebuked their Democratic colleagues for blocking a bill.

This has put conservative groups and lawmakers who are supportive of Trump, but critical of excessive spending, in an awkward position. While conservative opposition to the red ink billowing from Washington intensified under the Democratic administration of Barack Obama, much of this infrastructure was created in response to the bipartisan bank bailout signed into law by the previous Republican president, George W. Bush. These groups in turn helped elect members of Congress who promised to be more consistently fiscally conservative, some defeating pro-bailout incumbents in Republican primaries. Trump Announces Postponed Deadline on Real ID Requirements

President Trump announced that the federal government will delay the compliance deadline for Real ID travel requirements, minimizing the need for drivers to update their licenses in person. . .

“I’m also announcing that we’re postponing the deadline for compliance with Real ID requirements. At a time where we’re asking Americans to maintain social distancing, we do want to require people to go to their local DMV,” he said. “We will be announcing the new deadline very soon.”

Oregon Sen. Ron Wyden said last week that he would propose legislation that would delay the federal Real ID requirements for travel “until at least” September 2021, citing the coronavirus. He said the bill has bipartisan agreement, including from Republican Sens. Steve Daines and Ron Johnson. (Read more from “Trump Announces Postponed Deadline on Real ID Requirements” HERE)
