A New Direction: Parental Rights Are Making a Comeback

The right to opt out one’s children from studying a sinister collection of sexually explicit storybooks in suburban Maryland, and the right to opt in to a Catholic Virtual charter school in Oklahoma, will be considered this month at the Supreme Court. That these two cases are under review by the high court is a strong indication that – after decades of being ignored by our educational system and the courts – parental rights are back.

The first case, Mahmoud v. Taylor, was brought by a group of parents whose children attend public schools in Montgomery County, Maryland. In the fall of 2022, the local school board announced it would use “Pride Storybooks,” a collection of around 20 books for the county’s youngest learners – pre-K through eighth-grade. The collection does not just celebrate Pride parades: it also introduces small children to the gruesome process of “gender-transitioning” and, inevitably, the ludicrous dogma of “pronoun preferences.”

Objections were raised by parents from faith traditions including Catholicism, Eastern Orthodox Christianity, and Islam. Their religious views do not endorse the ideologies pushed in the collection and they don’t want their children indoctrinated. When their pleas to opt their young children out of this curriculum were rejected by their school board, they went to court. These parents are asking simply for the right to protect their children from these far-left storybooks. Withdrawing the collection, they believe, is a matter for the school board.

A district court ruled that the parents couldn’t show that the school board’s “no-opt-out policy” burdened their religious exercise. A divided Fourth Circuit panel agreed last May, ruling that, in the absence of any “coercive effect,” there is no burden on religious exercise. Losing twice in federal court is enough to discourage most parties, but not these parents. They successfully petitioned the Supreme Court to review their case.

When it comes to protecting the interests of parents in their children’s education and religious formation, there is no better guardian than this Supreme Court. Just think back to 2020 when the Court struck down the “No-Aid” provision in Montana’s state constitution that excluded religious schools and families from a publicly-funded scholarship program for students attending private schools. Chief Justice John Roberts, writing for the majority, recognized the “rights of parents to direct the religious upbringing of their children” as an “enduring American tradition.” His colleague, Justice Samuel Alito, added in a concurring opinion that “many parents of many different faiths still believe that their local school inculcates a worldview that is antithetical to what they teach at home.” (Read more from “A New Direction: Parental Rights Are Making a Comeback” HERE)

Judge Blocks Trump’s Executive Order Requiring Proof of Citizenship to Vote

A federal judge issued an injunction Thursday blocking key parts of President Trump’s executive order to tighten voting rules, including provisions requiring people to provide proof of citizenship before registering to vote using a federal form.

Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly, a Clinton appointee to the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, said Congress or the Election Assistance Commission could make those decisions and the president could not “unilaterally mandate” it.

Our Constitution entrusts Congress and the states, not the president, with the authority to regulate federal elections,” the judge concluded.

She delivered some victories to Mr. Trump, ruling it was “premature” to challenge other parts of his executive order that punish states for counting ballots received after Election Day.

Mr. Trump’s March 25 executive order, “Preserving and Protecting the Integrity of American Elections,” could be the most considerable change to federal election rules in decades. (Read more from “Judge Blocks Trump’s Executive Order Requiring Proof of Citizenship to Vote” HERE)

Trump Set to Unleash DOJ Probe on Actblue’s Alleged Fraudulent Donation Scheme

President Donald Trump is reportedly expected to sign a memorandum on Thursday directing the Department of Justice to open an investigation into the Democratic fundraising powerhouse ActBlue.

A fact sheet on the memo was obtained by several news outlets, directing Attorney General Pam Bondi to “investigate and take appropriate action concerning allegations regarding the use of online fundraising platforms to make ‘straw’ or ‘dummy’ contributions and to make foreign contributions to U.S. political candidates and committees, all of which break the law.”

The fact sheet reportedly highlighted a 30-day period last year when ActBlue received 237 donations from foreign IP addresses using prepaid cards.

“President Trump is taking action to address malign actors and foreign nationals who seek to illegally influence American elections, undermining the integrity of our electoral process,” it reads. “ActBlue has become notorious for its lax standards that enable unverified and fraudulent donations.”

The House Judiciary Committee released a preliminary report on April 2 that outlined “potential illegal activity” on ActBlue, noting that it “made its fraud-prevention rules ‘more lenient’ twice in 2024—even though there is extensive fraud on the platform, including from foreign sources.” (Read more from “Trump Set to Unleash DOJ Probe on Actblue’s Alleged Fraudulent Donation Scheme” HERE)

Here’s the Perfect Solution for Sending Joe Biden’s Hordes of Illegal Voters Back Home

Democrats accuse President Donald Trump of being no better than Augusto Pinochet, the Chilean dictator, who in the 1970s is believed to have “disappeared” hundreds of his political opponents. Like Pinochet, they contend, Trump “disappeared” — or, more accurately, kicked out of the country and sent home — the aliens who came illegally to the United States under Joe Biden’s Cloward and Piven open borders free-for-all. Trump has even told them to self-deport.

Telling people to go home is the 2025 version of “disappearing” people, according to Democrats.

Democrats and their go-to judges now resist Trump by demanding that illegal aliens receive special legal hearings before he can kick them out of the country. If he fails to do their political bidding, they threaten to impeach him again if they capture the House in 2026.

Happily, there’s a middle path both sides can agree on. Since Democrats said not a peep about the unvetted hordes of humanity streaming over our Southern border for four years, said nothing about the stacks of passports from unfriendly countries left on Mexican soil, allowed unchecked fake “families” to traffic children into sex slavery, and then gave these hordes court dates years into the future that would be attended by no one, then an obvious and acceptable compromise is before us.

As whip-smart PJ Media readers may know, the Democrats’ latest cause célèbre is the “Maryland father” and alleged MS-13 gangster who illegally crossed the border and told immigration officials that he can’t go back home because a rival gang might do him harm. Despite Trump Orders, Juvenile Prisons Still Have To House ‘Trans’ Men With Young Girls

President Donald Trump has made it a priority to keep men out of women’s sports, bathrooms, and other sex-specific spaces. But thanks to little-known Obama-era regulations, states could be required to house boys in all-girl youth prisons.

Currently, states are barred from imprisoning juvenile inmates on the basis of sex. That means a 17-year-old boy who claims to be “transgender” could be locked up alongside an 11-year-old girl. States that don’t comply with these mandates risk losing crucial federal funding, making even deep-red states comply with the guidance.

Advocates tell The Daily Wire that Trump’s executive orders protecting women’s spaces may not automatically negate these rules. Unless amended, the federal code will continue to force youth prisons to consider housing transgender-identifying males alongside girls, raising serious concerns about their safety.

Amie Ichikawa, a woman who spent nearly five years in a California prison and now advocates to keep males out of female prisons, told The Daily Wire it was “disturbing” that juvenile facilities are blocked from making housing decisions on the basis of sex. She believes it’s even more dangerous than mixing genders in adult prisons.

“Kids in juvenile are extremely vulnerable, and to add mixed sex housing into it, that’s creating a totally unnecessary hurdle to have to jump over,” she said. “It’s setting them up for failure, and it’s just robbing them of any kind of normalcy or ability to focus on healing.” (Read more from “Despite Trump Orders, Juvenile Prisons Still Have To House ‘Trans’ Men With Young Girls” HERE)

Fed-up Trump Blasts Putin After Russia’s Deadly Attack on Ukraine, Hampering Peace Talks: ‘Vladimir, Stop!’

President Trump blasted Vladimir Putin on Thursday and urged the Russian president to “STOP!” after Moscow launched its deadliest attack on Ukraine in almost a year overnight.

“I am not happy with the Russian strikes on KYIV,” Trump raged in a Truth Social post.

“Not necessary, and very bad timing. Vladimir, STOP! 5000 soldiers a week are dying. Lets get the Peace Deal DONE!”

His rare criticism of Putin came soon after Russia struck Kyiv with an hours-long barrage of missiles and drones — killing at least nine and wounding more than 70.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky branded the attack, which is the deadliest there since last July, as “one of the most outrageous.”

He appeared to take a swipe at the White House, too, as the Trump administration continues to push peace efforts to end the three-year war. (Read more from “Fed-up Trump Blasts Putin After Russia’s Deadly Attack on Ukraine, Hampering Peace Talks: ‘Vladimir, Stop!’” HERE)

The Media Have A New Conspiracy Theory About Trump’s Interior Decorating

Trump critics often engage in what Federalist contributor Inez Stepman calls the “Hitler also ate breakfast” fallacy: pointing out some tertiary or non-evil habit of Adolf Hitler’s like driving in a car or having an affinity for tariffs, and drawing a comparison to Trump, as if any mundane activity in which Hitler ever engaged is necessarily and permanently fascist-coded. In a 1,700-word thinkpiece published Wednesday, Washington Post opinion columnist Carolina Miranda used that blueprint to draw parallels between President Donald Trump and a new historical villain — the famously absolutist King Louis XIV of France — based on similarities in their interior decorating taste.

If you look at the maximalist gold accents with which Trump has appointed the Oval Office, “the sparkle conveys something more insidious about how Trump views himself,” Miranda writes. “Behold the new Sun King, a wannabe emperor who views his powers as absolute.”

Sure, Jan. Trump’s affinity for flashy, theatrical decor is only breaking news if you’ve been living under a rock since the last century. And he’s hardly the first successful American businessman to develop a taste for extravagant digs.

Miranda argues that Trump’s penchant for Rococo design reflects “an aesthetic that connotes absolute rule” and says “Trump’s gilded gewgaws” are “intimately connected” with “our growing authoritarian state.” Personally, I thought it was pretty authoritarian for the Biden administration to censor Americans’ speech online, round up pro-lifers in armed raids, and brand parents with the language of “domestic terrorism” for raising concerns at school board meetings. But Biden’s taste is more New England elitist than Palm Beach, so I guess that makes it OK?

Miranda even compares Trump’s deportation of illegally present aliens and suspected gang members to Louis XIV throwing Frenchmen into the Bastille. Because the expulsion of foreign lawbreakers, not the Biden administration’s actual attempt to imprison its political opposition, is obviously the most analogous example to draw from here!

Trump Signals Step Back On China Tariffs, Says They’ll ‘Come Down Substantially’

President Donald Trump signaled Tuesday evening from the Oval Office that the U.S. will ease tariffs on China, saying they’ll “come down substantially” but won’t be eliminated entirely.

On April 2, Trump announced reciprocal tariffs on several countries, with higher rates for nations like China due to their own trade barriers against the U.S. When asked Tuesday about the tariffs against the foreign country, Trump said that the 145% hit would not last forever.

“It’ll come down substantially, but it won’t be zero. It used to be zero,” Trump said. “We were just destroyed. China was taking us for a ride and just not going to — it’s not going to happen. We’re going to be very good to China. I have a great relationship with President Xi, but they would make billions and billions and billions of dollars a year, and they were building a military out of the United States on what they made.”

By April 10, the White House said that Trump’s announced 125% tariff would actually total 145% on all Chinese imports, according to The New York Times. The administration said the 125% would be added on top of a previously announced 20% tariff already in place on goods from China, the outlet reported.

“So that won’t happen. But they’re going to do very well, and I think they’re going to be happy, and I think we’re going to live together very happily and ideally work together. So I think it’s going to work out very well, but, no, it’s at 145%. It will not be anywhere near that number,” Trump said. President Trump To Attend Funeral Of Pope Francis In Rome

President Donald Trump announced on Monday that he will attend the funeral of Pope Francis, which will likely take place in Rome this month.

“Melania and I will be going to the funeral of Pope Francis, in Rome,” the president shared in a Truth Social post on Monday afternoon. “We look forward to being there!”

It’s not immediately clear when the funeral will be: a pope is typically mourned for nine days while the College of Cardinals comes together to pray. After the pope’s funeral takes place, the conclave of cardinals will elect a new pope.

His announcement came after he ordered federal and state flags to fly at half-staff in memory of Pope Francis.

“As a mark of respect for the memory of His Holiness Pope Francis, by the authority vested in me as President of the United States by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, I hereby order that the flag of the United States shall be flown at half-staff at the White House and upon all public buildings and grounds, at all military posts and naval stations, and on all naval vessels of the Federal Government in the District of Columbia and throughout the United States and its Territories and possessions until sunset, on the day of interment,” Trump wrote in a separate post.
