Why You Should Avoid These Nonprofit Organizations

If you’re tallying up your charitable donations to claim as a tax deduction or following through on a New Year’s resolution to be more giving, make sure your money is being put to good use. Some nonprofits might not spend your money the way you’d expect or even like, so it’s important to do your homework before you give.

1. Kids Wish Network . . .

The organization has spent less than 3 cents on the dollar helping children, according to an in-depth report, America’s Worst Charities, conducted by the Center for Investigative Reporting and the Tampa Bay Times. The report examined nonprofits’ financial data over the last decade. It found that most of the money goes into the pockets of the charity’s operators and for-profit companies that are hired to solicit donations . . .

[2]. Children’s Charity Fund

[A] report stated that family members were paid more than three times the amount spent on sick children’s wishes and medical care ini 2011, and state regulators have been scrutinizing the charity since its formation, with the latest incident reportedly involving solicitation issues in several states. The Children’s Charity Fund’s latest financial statement shows a $23,500 deficit due to overspending on functional expenses. RNC Chair: Hillary Should Return Donations from Mcauliffe’s Convicted Pal

Photo Credit: APOn Sunday RNC Chairman Reince Priebus called on Hillary Clinton, Harry Reid, and the Democratic National Committee to return political contributions made to their political campaign committees by Joseph Caramadre, a friend and business associate of Virginia Democratic gubernatorial candidate Terry McAuliffe.

Breitbart News reported on Wednesday that Caramadre, who recently pled guilty to stealing the identities of terminally ill people, donated $25,000 to McAuliffe’s 2009 gubernatorial campaign and that McAuliffe had invested $47,000 in his illegal business venture.

Also on Wednesday, McAuliffe said he would donate the $25,000 he received in contributions from Caramadre and the $47,000 he invested in Caramadre’s business venture—offered and managed by Estate Planning Resources, Caramadre’s Rhode Island-based business—to charity.

Priebus told Breitbart News exclusively on Sunday that “Terry McAuliffe has already given back part of his ill-gotten gains from Joseph Caramadre. It is now up to Democrats, including Hillary Clinton, Harry Reid, and the DNC, to decide where they stand.”

Priebus called on Clinton and Reid to return the substantial contributions they have received from Caramadre. “Will they continue to keep the hundreds of thousands of dollars they received from a convicted fraudster who illegally profited off terminally ill patients?” he asked.

Obama Campaign Accepts Donations from “Osama Bin Laden”

Using a Pakistani Internet Protocol and proxy server, a disposable credit card and a fake address, “Osama bin Laden” has successfully donated twice to Barack Obama’s presidential re-election campaign.

The “Bin Laden” donations, actually made by WND staff, included a listed occupation of “deceased terror chief” and a stated employer of “al-Qaida.”

“Bin Laden” is currently set up on the official campaign website to contribute more to Obama’s campaign. The name is also registered as a volunteer.

Since the “foreign” contribution was sent, “Bin Laden’s” email address has received several solicitations from Obama’s campaign asking for more donations.

The apparently foreign-based contributions were conducted as a test after a flurry of media reports described the ability of foreigners to donate to the Obama campaign but not to Mitt Romney’s site, which has placed safeguards against such efforts.

Study: Red States give far more to charity than Blue States

Am I my brother’s keeper? Conservatives and churchgoers are far more likely to say “yes,” research shows. A major survey by the Chronicle of Philanthropy confirms that residents of states that lean Republican and are most religious donate more of their money to charity, while more secular regions — and areas that tend to vote Democrat — give less.

But researchers caution that churchgoers are no more generous than secular Americans when donations to religious groups are excluded.

The study, which examined Internal Revenue Service information from 2008, the most recent year for which statistics were available, ranked Utahans as the most charitable people in the U.S. Residents of the heavily Mormon state gave 10.6 percent of their discretionary income to philanthropic causes in 2008. Mississippi ranked second, with 7.2 percent going to charity. Three other states in the Bible Belt — Alabama, Tennessee and South Carolina — round out the top five.

Each of the top nine states in the Chronicle report voted for John McCain in the 2008 presidential election. The seven least-generous states went for Barack Obama.

New Hampshire residents gave the least, with 2.5 percent of discretionary income going to charity. It was followed by Maine, Vermont and Massachusetts, whose residents donated 2.8 percent. Residents of Rhode Island, the fifth most frugal state, gave 3.1 percent, according to the study.
