Scientists Are Making Human-Monkey Hybrids in China

In a controversial first, a team of researchers have been creating embryos that are part human and part monkey, reports the Spanish daily El País.

Daring biologist: According to the newspaper, the Spanish-born biologist Juan Carlos Izpisúa Belmonte, who operates a lab at the Salk Institute in California, has been working working with monkey researchers in China to perform the disturbing research.

Making chimeras: The technique for making chimeras involves injecting human embryonic stem cells into a days-old embryo of another species. The hope is that the human cells will grow along with the embryo, adding to it. . .

Because monkeys are genetically closer to humans, it’s possible that such experiments could now succeed. To give the human cells a better chance of taking hold, scientists also use gene-editing technology to disable the formation of certain types of cells in the animal embryos. . .

So far, no part-human part-monkey has been born. Instead, the mixed embryos are only being allowed to develop for a week or two in the lab, at which time they can be studied. That is according to Estrella Núñez, a biologist and administrator at the Catholic University of Murcia, in Spain, who told El País her university is helping to fund the research. First Human FROZEN by Cryonics ‘Will Be Brought Back to Life in Just TEN Years’

The incredible announcement comes from Dennis Kowalski, president of the US-based Cryonics Institute – an organisation spearheading the human freezing process.

Speaking exclusively to Daily Star Online, Dennis said that the technology is advancing so quickly that he can’t keep up with demand . . .

Dennis – who previously worked as a paramedic – was inspired to get into cryonics by J Robert Freitas’ book Engines of Creation, which focuses on nanotechnology . . .

He went on: “Cryonically bringing someone back to life should definitely be doable in 100 years, but it could be as soon as ten.”

Dennis’ Cryonics Institute in Michigan has almost 2,000 people signed up to be frozen after they die, and 160 patients already frozen in tanks of liquid nitrogen. (Read more from “First Human FROZEN by Cryonics ‘Will Be Brought Back to Life in Just TEN Years'” HERE)

Woman Has Baby Born From 24-Year-Old Frozen Embryo

A Tennessee couple has welcomed a baby girl who grew from the longest-frozen embryo to ever result in a birth.

Benjamin and Tina Gibson’s daughter, Emma Wren, weighed 6 pounds, 8 ounces when she came into the world on November 25.

Prior to being transferred into Tina’s uterus at the National Embryo Donation Center in Knoxville earlier this year, the embryo Emma grew from had been cryo-preserved for more than 24 years, according to a news release.

And, according to research staff at the University of Tennessee Preston Medical Library, that makes her the all-time record holder for the longest-frozen embryo to result in birth.

The National Embryo Donation Center says it has helped produce more pregnancies through embryo adoption, nearly 700, than any other organization or clinic. (Read more from “Woman Has Baby Born From 24-Year-Old Frozen Embryo” HERE)
