George Zimmerman Sues Warren and Buttigieg Over Their Tweets

George Zimmerman, the man who shot and killed Trayvon Martin, is suing two Democratic presidential candidates over their incendiary tweets about the movement that grew out of his case.

The infamous Florida man was charged with murder after he engaged in an altercation with the seventeen-year-old Martin, and ended up shooting him and killing him in 2012.

Zimmerman was acquitted for the murder of Martin in 2013, but activists have hounded him and made the case into a social justice cause. . .

“We need to end gun violence and racism,” she added. “And we need to build a world where all of our children—especially young Black boys—can grow up safe and free.”

The lawsuit accused the politicians of tweeting simply “for political gain in misguided and malicious attempts to bolster their standings amongst African-American voters, all at Zimmerman’s expense.”

George Zimmerman Charged with Felony after Allegedly Pointing Gun at Girlfriend (+video)

Photo Credit: CNNGeorge Zimmerman was charged Monday with felony aggravated assault after allegedly pointing a shotgun at his girlfriend, according to Dennis Lemma, chief deputy with the Seminole County, Florida, Sheriff’s Office.

Zimmerman, who was acquitted earlier this year of murdering teenager Trayvon Martin, was arrested after the incident at the home of Samantha Scheibe, Lemma said. He also was charged with two misdemeanors — domestic violence battery and criminal mischief — in connection with the same incident, Lemma said.

Zimmerman is being held in jail without bail and will make his first appearance in front of a judge Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. ET.

Differing 911 calls

According to a police report on the incident, Scheibe said that after an argument Zimmerman broke a table with a shotgun then pointed it at her “for a minute.”

Armed George Zimmerman Pulled Over in Texas for Speeding (+video)

Photo Credit: APGeorge Zimmerman Stopped for Speeding, Has Gun

By Seni Tienabeso, Matt Gutman and Aaron Katersky. Police in Texas have pulled over George Zimmerman for speeding and then the man acquitted in one of America’s most controversial trials in years alerted the officer that he had a gun in his glove compartment.

Zimmerman, who was acquitted by a Florida jury two weeks ago for the death of Trayvon Martin, was stopped at 12:47 p.m. on Sunday on Highway 80 by a Forney, Texas.

In dash cam video obtained by ABC News the officer can be heard asking the former neighborhood watch captain, “Where you headed?”

Zimmerman responded, “Nowhere in particular,” and then asks the officer if he noticed the name of the driver’s license.

The officer responded “What a coincidence,” and later is heard telling Zimmerman that he can shut the glove compartment that was holding the firearm.

Zimmerman Legal Team “Baffled” Traffic Stop is National News

By Mark Sappenfield. A spokesman for Zimmerman’s legal team says he’s baffled that a traffic stop would become national news.

“Baffled” might be a bit of overstatement.

It was national news when Zimmerman stopped to help a family in Florida get out of their SUV after it flipped onto its side on an exit ramp on July 17. The family even planned to hold a news conference to thank Zimmerman before backing out.

“They can’t even say that George did something good for them because people out there believe he’s so toxic even though he’s been acquitted,” said Mark O’Mara, Zimmerman’s attorney, according to the Orlando Sentinel. Read more from this story HERE.

George Zimmerman Rescues Family of Four After SUV Topples on Florida Highway (+videos)

Photo Credit: APBy Philip Caulfield. George Zimmerman helped rescue a family from an overturned car after an accident in Florida, four days after he was acquitted of murder, police said.

Zimmerman was one of two men who helped free four family members trapped in an overturned blue Ford Explorer after it crashed on a highway in Sanford around 5:45 p.m. on Wednesday, the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office said.

Two parents and two children were riding in the truck when it flipped near the intersection of I-4 and Route 46, authorities said.

After spotting the wreck and pulling over, the 29-year-old volunteer watchman grabbed a fire extinguisher from his car and checked for signs of a blaze before freeing the family, Sean Vincent, a spokesman for his legal team, told the Daily News.

By Fox News. George Zimmerman, who has not been seen publicly since his acquittal in the murder of Trayvon Martin earlier this month, surfaced last week to rescue an unidentified family trapped in an overturned vehicle on a Florida highway, police said Monday.

Sanford Police Department Capt. Jim McAuliffe told Fox News that Zimmerman, 29, was identified by a crash victim as the man who pulled him from the mangled vehicle.

“George Zimmerman pulled me out,” firefighters were told by the unidentified driver, according to McAuliffe.

The Seminole County Sheriff’s Office said the single-car accident occurred July 17 at approximately 5:45 pm. and involved a blue Ford Explorer SUV that had left the road and rolled over.

The sheriff’s office said there were four occupants inside — two parents and two children. There were no reports of injuries. Read more from this story HERE.

Rush Limbaugh predicts how the ‘insane’ left will react to Zimmerman rescuing family after car accident

By Jason Howerton. On his radio show Monday, Rush Limbaugh reflected on reports indicating that George Zimmerman emerged out of hiding last week to help rescue a family involved in a car accident. The story is so incompatible with the way Zimmerman has been portrayed in the media that Limbaugh wondered “how long is it going to be before the story gets out that the whole accident was scripted and planned?”

“If it’s not already out there, it’s going to be a running theme,” he said. “I’m telling you, the left is insane…This just can’t be — Zimmerman, a hero? The Zimmerman haters are going to say that this whole thing was staged.”

How the Media Has Distorted a Tragedy (+MUST SEE video)

Photo Credit: Allison HargerA week after George Zimmerman’s acquittal in the fatal shooting of black teenager Trayvon Martin, the backlash continues, with nationwide protests and calls to boycott Florida. President Obama spoke some undeniable truths when he noted that the African-American community’s reaction must be seen in the context of a long, terrible history of racism. But there is another context too: that of an ideology-based, media-driven false narrative that has distorted a tragedy into a racist outrage.

This narrative has transformed Zimmerman, a man of racially mixed heritage that included white, Hispanic and black roots (a grandmother who helped raise him had an Afro-Peruvian father), into an honorary white male steeped in white privilege. It has cast him as a virulent racist even though he once had a black business partner, mentored African-American kids, lived in a neighborhood about 20 percent black, and participated in complaints about a white police lieutenant’s son getting away with beating a homeless black man.

This narrative has perpetuated the lie that Zimmerman’s history of calls to the police indicates obsessive racial paranoia. Thus, discussing the verdict on the PBS NewsHour, University of Connecticut professor and New Yorker contributor Jelani Cobb asserted that “Zimmerman had called the police 46 times in previous six years, only for African-Americans, only for African-American men.” Actually, only six calls—two of them about Trayvon Martin—had to do with African-American men. At least three involved complaints about whites; others were about such issues as a fire alarm going off, a reckless driver of unknown race, or an aggressive dog.

In this narrative, even Zimmerman’s concern for a black child—a 2011 call to report a young African-American boy walking unsupervised on a busy street, on which the police record notes, “compl[ainant] concerned for well-being”—has been twisted into crazed racism. Writing on the website of The New Republic, Stanford University law professor Richard Thompson Ford describes Zimmerman as “an edgy basket case” who called 911 about “the suspicious activities of a seven year old black boy.” This slander turns up in other left-of-center sources, such as ThinkProgress.org.

McCain Says ‘Controversial’ Stand Your Ground State Laws Need Review (+video)

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) on Sunday urged states to review their “stand your ground” laws amid a widening debate over the Trayvon Martin verdict and racial profiling.

About two dozen states have laws that allow individuals to act in self defense during a conflict without attempting to retreat, including Arizona. A Florida jury’s acquittal of George Zimmerman in Martin’s killing has renewed debate over those statutes.

McCain said he “trusts the judgment” of the jury that acquitted Zimmerman, but said that “stand your ground” rules need a second look.

Congressional Black Caucus Now Lining Up Behind Jesse Jackson’s “Boycott Florida for Trayvon” Campaign

Photo Credit: david_shankboneA number of House Democrats are lining up behind the Rev. Jesse Jackson’s threat for an economic boycott of Florida following the not-guilty verdict in the death of Trayvon Martin.

The lawmakers, all members of the Congressional Black Caucus, are fierce critics of the process that led to George Zimmerman’s acquittal in the fatal shooting last year of the Florida teenager. Exerting pressure on Florida’s economy as Jackson is suggesting, they said, could help overturn the state’s controversial stand-your-ground laws that many contend contributed to the tragedy.

“That’s probably the best strategy, because people understand dollars and cents,” Rep. Lacy Clay (D-Mo.) said Friday. “And they understand, if there’s a significant drop-off in revenues – at conventions, at Disney World and Universal Studios – that that will get the attention of the powerful.”

Clay said he’d like to see “a multi-pronged strategy” that includes legislation, “getting laws overturned by courts, as well as an economic boycott.”

Rep. Bennie Thompson echoed that message. The Mississippi Democrat called the verdict “a travesty” that “does not speak well for this country,” and said he would “absolutely” support an economic boycott of the state.

Protesters Around the Country Call for Fed’s Prosecution of Zimmerman, But Leading Dem Says not so Fast

Photo Credit: werthmediaProtesters call for federal civil rights lawsuit in Trayvon Martin case

By Elise Viebeck. Protesters around the country on Saturday are calling on the Obama administration to prosecute George Zimmerman, the man acquitted of killing unarmed teenager Trayvon Martin, on civil rights grounds.

The demonstrations come after President Obama downplayed the possibility that Attorney General Eric Holder would take the case, calling it an issue for “state and local” law enforcement.

Martin’s parents were scheduled to lead protests in New York and Miami in partnership with the Reverend Al Sharpton, who said demonstrations would take place in more than 100 U.S. cities.

For days, activists have rallied around the goal of a Justice Department (DOJ) suit against Zimmerman, who was acquitted of second-degree murder and manslaughter charges in Sanford, Fla.

Zimmerman’s attorneys argued that he acted in self-defense, but many have alleged that racial bias was a factor in Martin’s killing. The 17-year-old was unarmed at the time he died. Read more from this story HERE.

Leading Dem casts doubt on possible DOJ charges against Zimmerman

By Elise Viebeck. A leading House Democrat questioned Friday whether the Justice Department (DOJ) has the evidence to mount a civil rights case against George Zimmerman, the man acquitted of killing an unarmed black teenager in Florida.

Rep. Henry Waxman (Calif.), the top Democrat on the Energy and Commerce Committee, said in a television interview that “it seems unlikely” Attorney General Eric Holder would file discrimination charges against Zimmerman…

“I haven’t heard that they could show that there was anything with regard to race involved,” Waxman told C-SPAN’s Newsmakers program.

“There was a boy and this fellow Zimmerman thought he was up to no good and they got into a fight. Read more from this story HERE.

Whether Feds Prosecute Zimmerman or Not, Little Obama Can Do to Rollback ‘Stand Your Ground’ Laws

By Ben Goad and Julian Hattem. President Obama and Attorney General Eric Holder have little if any power to compel states to dial back “stand your ground” laws the two have criticized in the wake of George Zimmerman’s acquittal in the death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin.

While the Justice Department may review the case and could seek civil rights charges against Zimmerman, experts say the federal government has little recourse with the stand your ground laws themselves.

“There’s little the Department of Justice can do,” UCLA law professor Adam Winkler told The Hill.

“States are allowed to have their own criminal laws, including self-defense laws,” Winker said. “DOJ may be able to pursue civil rights charges in individual cases, but it has no authority to overturn state laws.”

The stand your ground laws in two dozen states around the country have come under national scrutiny in the wake of last week’s acquittal of Zimmerman, a volunteer neighborhood watchman, in Martin’s shooting death.

Krauthammer Slams Obama for “Re-Racializing” the Zimmerman Verdict with his Pathetic Press Briefing Speech (+video)

On Fox News yesterday, Charles Krauthammer slammed Obama’s press briefing speech for having “re-racialized” the Zimmerman case.

He opined that the President’s speech was motivated by the fact that the federal government doesn’t have a case, so Obama had to do something to satisfy his extreme constituency.

Krauthammer continued:

I gave him and Holder credit all week for trying to de-racialize the issue. And what Obama did, I think, unfortunately, today, is to re-racialize it. The first statement he issued after the verdict, on Saturday, I think it was, was to talk about we have to honor what the jury decided and then he spoke about helping our communities helping our neighbors and gun control. But it wasn’t about race.
