White House Dodges on Using Decades-Old Gun Statistics

White House Press Secretary Jay Carney avoided acknowledging today that President Obama has been incorrectly using a 20-year-old statistic on background checks in his push for universal background checks.

President Obama has repeatedly said 40 percent of all gun sales don’t require a background check under current law, and Organizing for Action tweeted the claim last week as well, using the @BarackObama Twitter handle it runs.

But the numbers the White House is citing are several decades old and incorrectly cited, as The Washington Post reported last week, giving the claim a “three pinocchio” rating. The Post explains that while the White House has repeatedly said “40 percent of sales,” the study uses the number to refer to transactions, which includes gifts and inheritances as well as purchases.

The detail changes the results: when gifts, inheritances and prizes are accounted for, the same study shows 26.4 percent of people did not receive their gun through a federally license firearms dealer.

Alaska Seeks to Woo Colorado Gun Company

Alaska is making its pitch to woo a Colorado company that has threatened to leave that state over new restrictions on firearms.

Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper last week signed bills that require background checks for private and online gun sales and ban ammunition magazines that hold more than 15 rounds. Magpul Industries, which manufactures firearms accessories and ammunition magazines, said on its Facebook page that it would have “no choice” but to leave if the magazine bill was signed, causing an opening for states eager to prove they’re more gun-friendly, like Alaska.

Grassroots Facebook pages have popped up — some, before the Colorado bills were even signed — encouraging Magpul to settle in places like Alabama, West Virginia or Texas. Alaska state Rep. Tammie Wilson’s staff created a Facebook page, too, called “Magpul Industries – Alaska Wants You.”

Jeremy McGowan, of Buckhannon, W.Va., said he started his Facebook page, “Bring Magpul to West Virginia,” with “very little hope” of actually attracting Magpul. But he said he wanted at the very least to draw attention to the issues raised in Colorado and try to prevent something similar from happening in West Virginia.

“I don’t think we are a minority at all,” he said. “I think a lot of us feel we have been pushed in a corner.”

Politico Story Falsely Portrays Democratic Front Group as Hunters Backing Gun Control

The liberal media will do anything to pressure lawmakers to support President Obama’s gun-control agenda. Politico published a story Wednesday with this headline: “Hunting Group Wants Background Checks.” The story gave the false impression that the millions of hunters in the U.S. support Mr. Obama’s push for “universal background checks.”

That is way off target. In fact, 31 well-known hunting and conservation groups sent a letter to Capitol Hill Thursday expressing opposition to intrusion by the federal government into private firearm transfers.

Politico only cites one small group in its story, Bull Moose Sportsmen, which claims 5,000 members. The story gives no context for the size of this group in relation to other hunting advocacy groups, nor its prominence in the community. The single poll cited in the Politico story is one commissioned by the group itself and claims 72 percent of hunters support “criminal background checks with some exceptions.”

None of the major hunting groups which represent the millions of law-abiding sportsmen was mentioned, nor the polling of those members.

In fact, Bull Moose Sportsmen is a fringe organization run by Democratic activists that has been rejected from membership into the major gun and hunting groups’ umbrella organization because it refuses to reveal its funding sources.

Second Amendment Crumbling as Gun-Control Victories Spread

The Second Amendment got attacked this week from three sides, leaving gun owners scrambling to find safe ground. While President Obama has lost momentum for federal gun-control laws, he has picked up victories with his allies in blue states and at the United Nations.

After Thursday, Connecticut should consider changing its state nickname from the “Constitution State” to the “Unconstitutional State” after Gov. Dannel Malloy signed an extremely restrictive gun-control law. The bill passed the state House Thursday morning and the Senate on Wednesday.

Before the Newtown tragedy, the Brady Campaign determined that Connecticut was the fifth highest-rated state for restrictive gun-control laws. Adam Lanza ignored those laws — such as including stealing the guns, carrying them without a permit and violating the federal “gun free” school zone — in his evil mission to murder school children and teachers.

Connecticut lawmakers decided that its current “assault weapon” ban, which had a two-characteristic test, was not severe enough, so all semi-automatic rifles with one scary-looking feature are illegal. The bill cites 100 specific makes and models that are banned, such as the AR and AK.

There is a new eligibility certificate required before purchasing or receiving a long gun, which is defined as any firearm that is not a pistol or revolver. These certificates cost $35 and are issued by the Commissioner of Emergency Services and Public Protection, but there is no time limit on how long the application process can take.

Department of Justice Admits New Gun Laws Won't Slow Crime

According to the Obama Administration and their allies in Congress, it is neither intelligent nor proper to judge all Muslims because of the acts of a few deranged terrorists.

Yet the Obama Administration and their allies in Congress, because of the acts of a few deranged gunmen, are judging all law abiding American gun owners. And, because of the acts of deranged gunmen, they are introducing legislation to do background checks on Americans in violation of provisions of the 2nd Amendment to the US Constitution.

Obama issued 23 Executive Orders to require federal agencies to make relevant data available to create a “Federal Background Check System.” Translation: Federal Gun Registration of all LEGAL gun owners. The emphasis is on the word “LEGAL”, since clearly criminals do not ever register their guns, or participate in any background checks related to the guns they illegally possess. More importantly, it is not the criminals who would take up arms against a tyrannical government, therefore, it is not the criminal element that the Obama Administration is truly concerned about — it’s the legal law abiding gun owners they are intent on disarming.

To support the Obama Administration’s goals of determining who all the law abiding gun owners are, Senator Patrick Leahy sponsored Senate Bill 443, referred to as the “Forced Gun Owner Registration Act of 2013”. Provisions in the bill will require background checks on law abiding gun owners and will determine where they have their guns stored. The bill also imposes harsh sentences for minor offenses (up to 15 years in prison).

Members of Congress should insist that if background checks are required for all law abiding American gun owners, the federal law enforcement agencies should start by finally doing a background check on Barrack Obama; he is the first resident of the Oval Office whose background and records are hidden from the view of all American voters. Currently, with what is available on his background, Barrack Obama would never pass the standard background check that every member of the US Armed Forces must have completed before they are sworn into the US Military.

At a gun rights forum in Denver, US Representative Diana DeGette, who apparently doesn’t know the difference between gun magazines and bullets [see a clip of that astonishing statement HERE], belittled an elderly citizen who asked how he could defend himself with new gun control restrictions.

Representative Diana DeGette callously responded, “The good news for you, you live in Denver. The Denver PD would be there within minutes. You’d probably be dead anyway.”

'Fast and Furious' Called False Flag Op Against Gun Dealers

The U.S. government running guns to Mexican cartels is “comparable to the United States funding al-Qaida to make someone in the United States look bad,” according to the author of a new best-seller.

Katie Pavlich is the author of “Fast and Furious: Barack Obama’s Bloodiest Scandal and the Shameless Cover-Up,” news editor of Townhall.com and an expert on the Fast and Furious scandal.

In an interview with WND, she asserted that the Obama administration intentionally orchestrated a “false flag” against lawful gun dealers, the U.S. Border Patrol and Mexican citizens to give cause for more gun regulation.

“This is a situation where the government was creating a situation where they could blame law-abiding citizens, turn them into criminals and creat[e] this false problem that they could solve through gun regulation,” Pavlich said.

Pavlich compares drug cartels to terrorist groups like Hezbollah, and new reports say the groups actually are linked. “This is a situation where [the Obama administration was] willing to put public safety in danger, get thousands of people killed south of the border. The only reason we know about this is because (Border Patrol agent) Brian Terry was killed,” she said.

Even the ACLU Says Reid’s Gun Legislation Threatens Privacy Rights, Civil Liberties

As Senate Democrats struggle to build support for new gun control legislation, the American Civil Liberties Union now says it’s among those who have “serious concerns” about the bill.

Those concerns have the capacity to prove a major setback to Sen. Harry Reid’s current gun bill, which includes language from earlier bills introduced by Sens. Chuck Schumer and Barbara Boxer.

In an exclusive interview with The Daily Caller, a top lobbyist for the ACLU announced that the group thinks Reid’s current gun bill could threaten both privacy rights and civil liberties.

Video: 'Pretty Stupid' Lead Sponsor of House Gun Legislation Has No Idea How They Work

Democratic Rep. Diana DeGette has been the lead sponsor on a federal ban on high-capacity ammunition magazines in two Congresses, saying it’s one of her top priorities.

But Tuesday at a Denver Post forum on the gun control debate, the senior congresswoman from Denver appeared to not understand how guns work. [She also mocked a senior citizen. See that video HERE]

Asked how a ban on magazines holding more than 15 rounds would be effective in reducing gun violence, DeGette said:

“I will tell you these are ammunition, they’re bullets, so the people who have those now they’re going to shoot them, so if you ban them in the future, the number of these high capacity magazines is going to decrease dramatically over time because the bullets will have been shot and there won’t be any more available.”

What she didn’t appear to understand is that a magazine can be reloaded with more bullets. According to the Shooter’s Log, only early on were magazines for AR-15s designed to be disposable, but the military changed that and now magazines are used several times. In handguns, a magazine is designed to be reused hundreds of times.

Democrats Push for $10K Fine for Gun Owners Without Liability Insurance

A group of congressional Democrats has signed on to new legislation that would mandate liability insurance for all gun owners in the United States — and fine those who refuse to purchase it as much as $10,000.

The Daily Caller reports that New York Rep. Carolyn Maloney’s Firearm Risk Protection Act says that all gun buyers — before they buy — purchase and show proof of “a qualified liability insurance policy,” and that those caught owning a weapon without the insurance are subject to harsh fines.

“It shall be unlawful for a person who owns a firearm purchased on or after the effective date of this subsection not to be covered by a qualified liability insurance policy,” the text of the bill states.
