Woman Exposes Father With Concealed Carry Permit Using Yard Signs

A sign posted in a front yard brings an interesting debate. At the center of it, your constitutional rights. In the past few weeks there’s been a number of stories involving guns on school property in Olmsted County. The issue Friday is a gun near school property and the way one woman is voicing her concern.

Matthew Halleck brings his two girls to and from the outskirts of Harriet Bishop Elementary in Rochester every day. “I’m going to protect my children anyway I can,” said Halleck.

For Matthew, that means carrying a concealed gun that he has a permit for, while adhering to all legal boundaries. “It’s not crossing the street here, where the crosswalk is, it’s making sure it’s concealed so the kids can’t see it,” he said.

But Matthew is no longer the only one who knows he’s carrying a gun. Recently a sign went up in a front yard across the street from the school. It has Matthew’s picture on it and reads, “This man carries a loaded gun around your children every day.”

“Since we don’t have a way to stop him, we felt it was important to notify the neighborhood and the parents that there is an armed man in their presence,” said Kimberly Edson, a Rochester resident who put the sign up. “The first couple days of school he had it very visible, we saw it and were quite concerned,” she said.

The husband of Angelina Jolie—and father of six— added in the interview that he doesn’t really feel that his family is safe unless there is a gun in his home.

How a Dozen Citizens Turned Their State Around … and How You Can, Too

Last year, in historic recall elections over gun rights, Colorado voters ousted two top Democrat state senators and put a stop to the anti-gun agenda of then-New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

Now it appears the recall elections may not be isolated victories—that they may, in fact, affect the 2014 midterms and possibly even the 2016 presidential election by turning a crucial battleground state red for the first time in a decade.

It all began right after the horrific Sandy Hook shooting, when Colorado Democrats responded by passing the strictest gun control laws in the nation.

Democrats didn’t just dismantle the Second Amendment; they set their sights on on the First Amendment as well. They stifled free speech, limited the time for public testimony, kept some citizens from testifying altogether and all but locked citizens out of the state Capitol during late-night sessions.

The antics could not extinguish the flames of liberty that had been sparked.

A Response to Bloomberg Group’s Disturbing Anti-Gun Ad: ‘Warning: This Video Depicts Scenes of Self Defense’ (+video)

Former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s anti-gun group Everytown for Gun Safety recently released a pro-gun control ad depicting an abusive ex breaking into a woman’s home and eventually shooting her. The ad was created in support of creating new gun restrictions to prevent domestic abusers from purchasing firearms.

On Wednesday, a pro-gun grassroots group, Liberty Pennsylvania, released a parody response showing what might happen in the same exact situation if the victim was “armed and ready to take action to defend herself and her family.”

Judge Strikes Down DC Ban On Handguns Outside Home

A federal judge struck down the District of Columbia’s ban on carrying guns outside of a person’s home, concluding it violates Second Amendment rights.

The ruling from U.S. District Judge Frederick J. Scullin is the latest in a protracted fight over gun laws in Washington. In 2008, the U.S. Supreme Court issued a landmark decision striking down the city’s 32-year-old ban on handguns. Since then, the city has rewritten its laws, lawsuits have been filed and even Congress has waded into the fight.

In a decision made public Saturday, Scullin concluded that the Second Amendment gives people the right to carry a gun outside the home for self-defense. He cited two U.S. Supreme Court cases as important to his ruling — the 2008 opinion striking down the District of Columbia’s ban and a 2010 ruling involving Chicago’s handgun ban.

“There is no longer any basis on which this court can conclude that the District of Columbia’s total ban on the public carrying of ready-to-use handguns outside the home is constitutional under any level of scrutiny,” wrote Scullin, who was appointed by President George H.W. Bush and is a retired Army colonel.

Witnesses said that when they opened the office door after hearing shouting, they saw Plotts with a gun. The witnesses closed the office door and called 911. Minutes later, they heard gun shots.

Harry Reid May Prevent Ted Cruz, Mike Lee, and Rand Paul from Offering Meaningful, Pro-Gun Amendments to Do-Nothing Bill

Photo Credit: United Liberty The Senate is expected to, perhaps as early as today, take up the Bipartisan Sportsmen’s Act (S. 2363), a measure that would expand recreational hunting on federal lands. While the bill is being touted by supporters as pro-Second Amendment, it’s basically an election year gimmick to help vulnerable Red State Democrats.

While the Sportsmen’s Act has strong Republican support, the measure was introduced in May by Sen. Kay Hagan (D-NC) and its cosponsored by several Democrats up for reelection this year, including Sens. Mark Begich (D-AK), Mary Landrieu (D-LA), Mark Pryor (D-AR), Mark Udall (D-CO), and John Walsh (D-MT).

“In North Carolina, hunting, fishing and shooting are a way of life,” Hagan said, according to The Hill. “Many of these traditions have been handed down through my own family, and I’m proud that our bill protects these activities for future generations while ensuring that outdoor recreation can continue to support jobs and local economies across the country.”

Store Suspends Armed Clerk After He Pulled Gun in Self-Defense

Photo Credit: ReutersA Vermont store clerk has been suspended from his job after he drew a gun in self-defense during a robbery.

Don Pitaniello, a 58 year-old Vietnam veteran from Rutland, was closing up shop at Mac’s Convenience Store on Sunday when a man wearing a hoodie and a bandana over his face stormed in wielding a 5-inch knife, the Rutland Herald reports.

“He walked up to the counter, laid the knife on it and said ‘Empty the register,’” Pitaniello told the paper.

“I knew his intentions as soon as he came in,” Pitaniello said. “When he told me to empty the register, I cocked my head and said ‘Really?’”

But Pitaniello had something ready for the man – a .380-caliber handgun hidden behind his back.
